3.73 [Machine] Who said the words of the call to prayer and the repetition of the Adhan?

٣۔٧٣ بَابُ مَنْ قَالَ بِتَثْنِيَةِ الْإِقَامَةِ وَتَرْجِيعِ الْأَذَانِ

bayhaqi:1968Abū al-Ḥasan ʿAlī b. Aḥmad b. ʿAbdān > Aḥmad b. ʿUbayd al-Ṣaffār > ʿAbbās b. al-Faḍl al-Asfāṭī > Abū al-Walīd > Abū ʿAbdullāh al-Ḥāfiẓ > Abū Bakr b. Isḥāq al-Faqīh > Abū al-Muthanná > Abū al-Walīd > Hammām b. Yaḥyá > ʿĀmir al-Aḥwal > Makḥūl > Ibn Muḥayrīz > Abū Maḥdhūrah

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah taught him the Adhan (call to prayer) with nineteen words and the Iqamah (second call to prayer) with seventeen words. The Adhan is as follows: "Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Ashhadu alla ilaha illallah, Ashhadu alla ilaha illallah, Ashhadu anna Muhammadan rasulullah, Ashhadu anna Muhammadan rasulullah, Hayya 'ala as-salah, Hayya 'ala al-falah, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illallah." The Iqamah is as follows: "Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illallah, La ilaha illallah, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Qad qamatis salah, Qad qamatis salah, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illallah." This was narrated by Affan from Hammam. Sa'id bin 'Amir also narrated it from Hammam.

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ commanded about twenty men to give the call to prayer. He was impressed by the voice of Abu Mahdhurah. He said, "Say: Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest. I bear witness that there is no god worthy of worship except Allah. I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god worthy of worship except Allah. I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god worthy of worship except Allah. I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. Hayya 'ala as-salah (Come to prayer), Hayya 'ala al-falah (Come to success). Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest. There is no god worthy of worship except Allah." And the establishment of prayer is similar to this.

"When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ left Hunain, I was the tenth of a group of ten of the people of Makkah who were trying to catch up with them. We heard them calling the Adhan for the prayer and we started to repeat the Adhan, mocking them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'I heard among these people the Adhan of one who has a beautiful voice.' He sent for us, and we recited the Adhan one by one, and I was the last of them. When I said the Adhan, he said: 'Come here.' He sat me down in front of him and rubbed my forelock and blessed me three times, then he said, 'Go and give the Adhan at the sacred House.' I said: 'How, O Messenger of Allah?' He taught me as you say the Adhan now: 'Allahu Akbar, Allahu akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar; Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah; Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulallah, Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulallah, Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah; Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulallah, Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulallah; Hayya 'alas-salah, Hayya 'ala-salah; Hayya 'alal-falah Hayya 'alal-falah; as-salatu khairun min an-nawm;as-salatu khairun min an-nawm; (Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest; I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah; I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger Allah, I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger Allah; I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah; I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; Come to prayer, come to prayer; come to prosperity, come to prosperity; prayer is better than sleep, prayer is better than sleep)' - in the first (Adhan) for As-Subh (Fajr). And he taught me the Iqamah saying each phrase twice: 'Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, (Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar), Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah; Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulallah, Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulallah; Hayya 'alas-salah, Hayya 'alas-salah; Hayya 'alal-falah, Hayya 'alal-falah; qad qamatis-salah, qad qamati-salah, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar La ilaha illallah (Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, (Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest); I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah ; I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; Come to prayer, come to prayer; come to prosperity, come to prosperity; the prayer is about to begin, the prayer is about to begin, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest; there is none worthy of worship except Allah)." (One of the narrators) Ibn Juraij said: ''Uthman narrated this whole report to me from his father and from Umm 'Abdul-Malik bin Abi Mahdhurah, and (said that) they heard that from Abu Mahdhurah. bayhaqi:1971Abū Bakr b. al-Ḥārith al-Faqīh > ʿAlī b. ʿUmar al-Ḥāfiẓ > Abū Bakr al-Naysābūrī > Abū Ḥumayd al-Miṣṣīṣī > Ḥajjāj > Ibn Jurayj > ʿUthmān b. al-Sāʾib > Abū And ʾUm ʿAbd al-Malik b. Abū Maḥdhūrah > Abū Maḥdhūrah

[Machine] When the Prophet ﷺ went out to Hunayn, he mentioned and said in the takbeer at the beginning of the adhan four times. He also taught me the ikamah twice. Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. Come to prayer, come to success. Prayer has begun, prayer has begun. Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest. There is no god but Allah. He mentioned the ikamah separately, as you can see, and his statement was mentioned twice, referring to the word "ikamah." This is also indicated by the narration of Abdul-Razzaq from Ibn Jurayj in 1972, Abu Bakr ibn Ali al-Hafiz informed us, Abu Ishaq Ibrahim ibn Abdullah narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Ishaq ibn Khuzaimeh narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Rafea narrated to us, Abdul-Razzaq informed us, Ibn Jurayj narrated to us, Uthman ibn al-Sa'ib, their master, narrated to us from his father, the sheikh of Abu Mahdhurah, and from Umm Abd al-Malik ibn Abu Mahdhurah, that they heard that from Abu Mahdhurah. So he mentioned the hadith similar to the hadith of Hajjaj, and he said at the end, "If you perform the prayer, say it twice. Prayer has begun, prayer has begun. Did you hear?" And he added that Abu Mahdhurah would not separate his fingers, nor would he move them apart, because the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wiped over them. Abu Bakr ibn Ali al-Hafiz informed us, Abu Ishaq Ibrahim ibn Abdullah said, Muhammad ibn Ishaq ibn Khuzaimeh said: "The repetition in the adhan, along with the takbeer and the words of the ikamah, is permissible. It is permissible for the mu'adhin to recite the adhan, then repeat it and recite the ikamah. It is also permissible to recite the adhan and recite the ikamah separately, because both matters were confirmed from the Prophet ﷺ. The sheikh said, The validity of repetition in the words of the ikamah, except for the takbeer and the words of the ikamah, is subject to further consideration. And in the differences of narration, there is an indication that the matter of repetition returned to the words of the ikamah. And regarding the continuity of Abu Mahdhurah and his children in reciting the adhan and reciting the ikamah, which requires the weakness of the narrations of those who narrated their repetition, or it implies that the matter remained as it was with Abu Mahdhurah and his children, and with Saad al-Quradh and his children, in the sanctuary of Allah Almighty and the sanctuary of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, until the change occurred in the days of the Egyptians. And Allah knows best.

[Machine] About the Prophet, may ﷺ , the meaning of what Ibn Jurayj narrated, Al-Shafi'i said, "I heard him reciting the Adhan (call to prayer) and he would say, 'Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar (Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest), Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah (I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah), Ashhadu anna Muhammadan rasulullah (I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah). Al-Shafi'i said, "I heard him narrating the Iqamah (second call to prayer) as he recites the Adhan, just as he narrates the Adhan. And in the narration of Al-Hasan ibn Muhammad ibn as-Sabbah az-Zafarani, from Al-Shafi'i, regarding the issue of the manner of the Adhan and the Iqamah, Al-Shafi'i said, "According to the narration, the Adhan is performed five times during the day and night in the two mosques (in reference to Masjid al-Nabawi in Medina and Masjid al-Haram in Makkah), on the heads of the Ansar and the Muhajirin, and the Mu'adhdhin of Makkah, the family of Abu Mahdhorah. And indeed, Abu Mahdhorah called the Adhan for the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , and taught him the Adhan. Then, he left with him to Makkah and called the Adhan for the family of Sa'd al-Qarzhi since the time of the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , in Madinah, and the time of Abu Bakr. All of them narrate the Adhan, the Iqamah, and the Thawib (additional supplications recited after Adhan) at the time of Fajr (dawn prayer), as we mentioned. Therefore, if it is possible that this is a mistake from their community, and people come from the end of the earth to teach us, it is permissible for him to ask them about 'Arafah and Mina, then he contradicts us. And even if he contradicts us in the timings, it is permissible for him to differ from us in our caliphate regarding this apparent and established matter.

[Machine] No one was allowed to go for Jihad after the Messenger of Allah ﷺ except Abu Bakr, and he wanted to prevent him from it and imprison him. Abu Bakr said, "If you had freed me for the sake of Allah, do not prevent me from Jihad. And if you had freed me for yourself, I have established my course." And he went to Sham until Umar ibn al-Khattab came to him. The Muslims asked Umar ibn al-Khattab to request Bilal to call the Adhan for them, so he asked him and he called the Adhan for them one day, or they said one prayer. Umar ibn al-Khattab was not seen crying on any day as he was on that day when they heard his voice mentioning the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. They said, "We see or say that the Adhan of the people of Sham on that day is less than his Adhan." Malik said, "I do not know what is the Adhan or the prayer of a day. Sa'd al-Qath called the Adhan in this mosque during the time of Umar ibn al-Khattab and the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ were present in it, and none of them objected to it. So Sa'd and his sons continue to call the Adhan with his Adhan until today. Even if a person who is blind hears from me, I would have thought that this Ummah should unite on their Adhan." Malik was asked, "How was their Adhan?" He said, "They say, 'Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar. Ashhadu allah ilaha illallah, ashhadu allah ilaha illallah, ashhadu anna Muhammadan rasulullah, ashhadu anna Muhammadan rasulullah. Hayya 'ala salah, hayya 'ala salah, hayya'ala alfalah, hayya 'ala alfalah. Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illallah." He said, "And the Iqamah is done once." Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Nasr said, "I see that the scholars of the people of Hadith have unanimously agreed to specify the Iqamah, but they have differed in the Adhan. Some of them chose the Adhan of Abu Mahdhura among them is Malik ibn Anas, al-Shafi'i and their followers. And a group of them chose the Adhan of Abdullah ibn Zaid. The Shaykh among them is al-Auzai, who chose to recite the Adhan twice and specify the Iqamah. Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib, Urwah ibn az-Zubayr, al-Hasan al-Basri, Muhammad ibn Sirin, al-Zuhri, Mak'hul, and Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz in a large group."
