he said: "I said to Abu Mahdhurah: 'I am going to Ash-Sham and I am afraid that I will be asked about how you say the Adhan. "'He told me that Abu Mahdhurah said to him, I went out with a group of people and we were somewhere on the road to Hunain when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was coming back from Hunain. The Messenger of Allah met us somewhere on the road and the Muadhdhin of the Messenger of Allah called the Adhan for prayer in the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. We heard the voice of the Muadh'dhin and we were careless about it (the Adhan), so we started yelling, immitating and mocking it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ heard us, so he sent some people who brought us to stand in front of him. He said, 'Who is the one whose voice I heard so loud?' The people all pointed to me, and they were telling the truth. He sent them all away, but kept me there and said to me: 'Stand up and call the Adhan for the Prayer.' I stood up and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught me the Adhan himself. He Said, 'Say: 'Allahu Akbar, Allahu akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar; Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah; Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulallah, Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulallah (Allah is the Greatest,Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest; I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah; I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger Allah,I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger Allah).' Then he said: 'Then repeat and say in a loud voice:Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah; Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulallah, Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulallah; Hayya 'alas-salah, Hayya 'ala-salah; Hayya 'alal-falah Hayya 'alal-falah; Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar; La ilaha ill-Allah (I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah; I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; Come to prayer, come to prayer; come to prosperity, come to prosperity; Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest; there is none worthy of worship except Allah).' Then he called me when I had finished saying the Adhan, and he gave me a bundle in which there was some silver. I said: 'O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, let me be the one doing the Adhan in Makkah.' He said: 'I command you to do so.' Then I came to 'Attab bin Asid who was the governor of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in Makkah, and I called the Adhan for prayer with him upon the orders of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."

when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered a bell to be made so that it might be struck to gather the people for prayer, a man carrying a bell in his hand appeared to me while I was asleep, and I said; servant of ‘abd Allah, will you sell the bell? He asked; what will you do with it? I replied; we shall use it to call the people to prayer. He said; should I not suggest you something better than that. I replied: certainly. Then he told me to say: Allah is most great, Allah is most great, Allah is most great, Allah is most great. I testify that there is no god but Allah, I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. Come to pray, come to pray; come to salvation; come to salvation. Allah is most great, Allah is most great. I testify that there is no god but Allah. He then moved backward a few steps and said: when you utter the IQAMAH, you should say: Allah is most great, Allah is most great. I testify that there is no god but Allah, I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. Come to prayer, come to salvation. The time for prayer has come, the time for prayer has come: Allah is most great, Allah is most great. There is no god but Allah. When the morning came, I came to the Messenger of Allah (May peace be upon him) and informed him of what I had seen in the dream. He said: it is a genuine vision, and he then should use it to call people to prayer, for he has a louder voice than you have. So I got up along with Bilal and began to teach it to him and he used it in making the call to prayer. ‘Umar b. al-khattab (Allah be pleased with him) heard it while he was in his house and came out trailing his cloak and said: Messenger of Allah. By him who has sent you with the truth, I have also seen the kind of thing as has been shown to him. The Messenger of Allah (May peace be upon him) said: To Allah be the praise. Abu Dawud said; Al-Zuhri narrated this tradition in a similar way from Sa’id b. al-Musayyib on the authority of ‘Abd Allah b. Zaid. In this version Ibn Ishaq narrated from al-Zuhri: Allah is most great. Allah is most great, Allah is most great, Allah is most great. Ma;mar and yunus narrated from al-Zuhri; Allah is most great, Allah is most great. They did not report it twice again.

The Messenger of Allah was thinking of a horn, and he commanded that a bell be made and it was done. Then 'Abdullah bin Zaid had a dream. He said: "I saw a man wearing two green garments, carrying a bell. I said to him, 'O slave of Allah, will you sell the bell?' He said; 'What will you do with it?' I said, 'I will call (the people) to prayer.' He said, 'Shall I not tell you of something better than that?' I said, 'What is it?' he said, 'Say: Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar; Ash-hadu an la ilaha illallah, Ash-hadu an la ilaha illallah; Ash-hadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah, Ash-hadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah; Hayya 'alas-salah, Hayya 'alas-salah; Hayya 'alal-falah, Hayya 'alal-falah; Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar; La ilaha illallah (Allah is The Most Great, Allah is The Most Great; Allah is The Most Great, Allah is The Most Great; I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah, I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah; I bear witness that Muhammed is the Messenger of Allah, I bear witness that Muhammed is the Messenger of Allah; Come to the Prayer, Come to the Prayer; Come to the prosperity, Come to the prosperity; Allah is the Most great, Allah is the Most Great; None has the right to be worshipped but Allah)." 'Abdullah bin Zaid went out and came to the Messenger of Allah, and told him what he had seen. He said, "O Messenger of Allah, I saw a man wearing two green garments carrying a bell," and he told him the story. The Messenger of Allah said, "Your companion has had a dream. Go out with Bilal to the mosque and teach it to him, for he has a louder voice than you." I ('Abdullah) went out with Bilal to the mosque, and I started teaching him the words and he was calling them out. 'Umar Al-Khattab heard the voice and came out saying, "O Messenger of Allah! By Allah, I saw the same (dream) as him." (Hasan)Abu 'Ubaid said: "Abu Bakr Al-Hakami told me that 'Abdullah bin Zaid Al-Ansari said concerning that: 'I praise Allah, the Possessor of majesty and honor, A great deal of praise for the Adhan. Since the news of it came to me from Allah, So due to it, I was honored by the information. During the three nights. Each of which increased me in honor.'"

ibnmajah:708Muḥammad b. Bashhār And Muḥammad b. Yaḥyá > Abū ʿĀṣim > Ibn Jurayj > ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. ʿAbd al-Malik b. Abū Maḥdhūrah

"Abdul-'Aziz bin 'Abdul-Malik bin Abu Mahdhurah narrated from 'Abdullah bin muhairiz who was an orphan under the care of Abu Mahdhurah bin mi'yar that when he was preparing him to travel to Sham, he said: 'O my uncle, I am going out to Sham, and I will be asked about how you started the Adhan.' So he informed me that. Abu Mahdhurah said: 'I went out with a group of people, and we were somewhere on the road, when the Mu'adh-dhin of the Messenger of Allah gave the call to prayer in the presence of the Messenger of Allah. We heard the voice of the Mu'adh-dhin, and we were shunning it (the Adhan), so we started yelling, imitating it and mocking it. The Messenger of Allah heard us, so he sent some people who brought us to sit in front of him. He said: 'Who is the one whose voice I heard so loud?' The people all pointed to me, and they were telling the truth. He sent them all away, but kept me there and said to me: 'Stand up and give the call to prayer.' I stood up and there was nothing more hateful to me than the Messenger of Allah and what he was telling me to do. I stood up in front of the Messenger of Allah and the Messenger of Allah himself taught me the call. He said: "Say: 'Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar; Ash-hadu an la ilaha illallah, Ash-hadu an la ilaha illallah; Ash-hadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah, Ash-hadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah (Allah is the Most great, Allah is the most Great, Allah is the most Great, Allah is the most Great; I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah, I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah; I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah).'" Then he said: "Raise your voice (and say). Ash-hadu an la ilaha illallah, Ash-hadu an la ilaha illallah; Ash-hadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah, Ash-hadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah; Hayya 'alal-salah, Hayya 'alal-salah; Hayya 'alal-falah, Hayya 'alal-falah; Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar; La ilaha illallah (I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah, I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah; I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; Come to the Prayer, Come to the Prayer; Come to the prosperity, Come to the prosperity; Allah is the Most great, Allah is the Most Great; None has the right to be worshipped but Allah).'" Then he called me when I had finished saying the Adhan, and gave me a small bag in which there was some silver. Then he put his hand on the forelock of Abu Mahdhurah, then passed it over his face, then over his chest, and over his heart, until the hand of the Messenger of Allah reached his navel. Then the Messenger of Allah said: 'May Allah bless you and send blessings upon you.' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, do you command me to give the call to prayer in Makkah?' He said: 'Yes, I command you (to do so).' Then all the hatred I had felt towards the Messenger of Allah disappeared, and was replaced with love for the Messenger of Allah. I came to 'Attab bin Asid, the governor of the Messenger of Allah in Makkah, and gave the call to prayer with him by command of the Messenger of Allah." (Sahih)He ('Abdul-'Aziz) said: "Someone who met Abu Mahdhurah told me the same as 'Abdullah bin Muhairiz told me."

[Machine] Abu Mahdhurah, I went out with the Prophet ﷺ in a group of ten boys, and he was the least liked by us. So, we called the adhan and started making fun of them. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Bring me those boys." They called the adhan and I was one of them. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Yes, this is the voice I heard. Go and call the people of Mecca to prayer." He placed his hand on my forehead and said, "Say, Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, twice, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, twice. Then go back and say, there is no god but Allah, twice, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, twice. Come to life for prayer, come to life for prayer, come to success, come to success, twice. Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest, there is no god but Allah. When you call the first adhan of dawn, say, prayer is better than sleep, prayer is better than sleep. And when you establish the prayer, say it twice: the prayer has been established, the prayer has been established. Did you hear that?" Abu Mahdhurah said, "He never wiped his forehead or separated his hair because the Prophet ﷺ had placed his hand on it."

I came to 'Attab bin Asid, the governor of the Messenger of Allah in Makkah, and gave the call to prayer with him by command of the Messenger of Allah." (Sahih)He ('Abdul-'Aziz) said: "Someone who met Abu Mahdhurah told me the same as 'Abdullah bin Muhairiz told me." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 708)

when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered a bell to be made so that it might be struck to gather the people for prayer, a man carrying a bell in his hand appeared to me while I was asleep, and I said; servant of ‘abd Allah, will you sell the bell? Allah is most great, Allah is most great, Allah is most great. when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered a bell to be made so that it might be struck to gather the people for prayer, a man carrying a bell in his hand appeared to me while I was asleep, and I said; servant of ‘abd Allah, will you sell the bell? He asked; what will you do with it? I replied; we shall use it to call the people to prayer. He said; should I not suggest you something better than that. I replied: certainly. Then he told me to say: Allah is most great, Allah is most great, Allah is most great, Allah is most great. I testify that there is no god but Allah, I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. Come to pray, come to pray; come to salvation; come to salvation. So I got up along with Bilal and began to teach it to him and he used it in making the call to prayer. ‘Umar b. al-khattab (Allah be pleased with him) heard it while he was in his house and came out trailing his cloak and said: Messenger of Allah. He said: "Say: 'Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar; Ash-hadu an la ilaha illallah, Ash-hadu an la ilaha illallah; Ash-hadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah, Ash-hadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah (Allah is the Most great, Allah is the most Great, Allah is the most Great, Allah is the most Great; I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah, I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah; I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah).'" [Machine] Abu Mahdhurah, I went out with the Prophet ﷺ along with ten young men to Hunayn and they were the most hated people to us. They called the adhan and we started mocking them. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Bring me those young men." They answered the adhan and I was the last one. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Yes, this is the one whose voice I heard. Go and call the people of Makkah for prayer and tell 'Attab Ibn Usaid that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered me to call the people of Makkah for prayer and to wipe my forehead." He said, "Say: Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, twice. Then say, I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, twice. Come to prayer, Come to success, twice. Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest. There is no god but Allah. When you call the first adhan of Fajr, say: Prayer is better than sleep, Prayer is better than sleep. When you establish the prayer, say it twice: The prayer has begun, have you heard? Abu Mahdhurah never wiped his face nor parted his hair, because the Prophet ﷺ wiped his forehead. Abu al-Qasim, Uthman, the one who narrated this hadith from Ibn Jurayj, is Uthman bin Al-Sa'ib, a freed slave of Bani Jumah.

The people all pointed to me, and they were telling the truth. I said: 'O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, let me be the one doing the Adhan in Makkah.' He said: 'I command you to do so.' Then I came to 'Attab bin Asid who was the governor of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in Makkah, and I called the Adhan for prayer with him upon the orders of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." "When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ left Hunain, I was the tenth of a group of ten of the people of Makkah who were trying to catch up with them. We heard them calling the Adhan for the prayer and we started to repeat the Adhan, mocking them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'I heard among these people the Adhan of one who has a beautiful voice.' He sent for us, and we recited the Adhan one by one, and I was the last of them. When I said the Adhan, he said: 'Come here.' He sat me down in front of him and rubbed my forelock and blessed me three times, then he said, 'Go and give the Adhan at the sacred House.' I said: 'How, O Messenger of Allah?' He taught me as you say the Adhan now: 'Allahu Akbar, Allahu akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar; Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah; Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulallah, Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulallah, Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah; Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulallah, Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulallah; Hayya 'alas-salah, Hayya 'ala-salah; Hayya 'alal-falah Hayya 'alal-falah; as-salatu khairun min an-nawm;as-salatu khairun min an-nawm; (Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest; I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah; I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger Allah, I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger Allah; I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah; I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; Come to prayer, come to prayer; come to prosperity, come to prosperity; prayer is better than sleep, prayer is better than sleep)' - in the first (Adhan) for As-Subh (Fajr). (One of the narrators) Ibn Juraij said: ''Uthman narrated this whole report to me from his father and from Umm 'Abdul-Malik bin Abi Mahdhurah, and (said that) they heard that from Abu Mahdhurah. [Machine] The Prophet ﷺ commanded about twenty men to give the call to prayer. He was impressed by the voice of Abu Mahdhurah. He said, "Say: Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest. I bear witness that there is no god worthy of worship except Allah. I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god worthy of worship except Allah. I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god worthy of worship except Allah. I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. Hayya 'ala as-salah (Come to prayer), Hayya 'ala al-falah (Come to success). Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest. There is no god worthy of worship except Allah." And the establishment of prayer is similar to this.

[Machine] No one was allowed to go for Jihad after the Messenger of Allah ﷺ except Abu Bakr, and he wanted to prevent him from it and imprison him. Abu Bakr said, "If you had freed me for the sake of Allah, do not prevent me from Jihad. And if you had freed me for yourself, I have established my course." And he went to Sham until Umar ibn al-Khattab came to him. The Muslims asked Umar ibn al-Khattab to request Bilal to call the Adhan for them, so he asked him and he called the Adhan for them one day, or they said one prayer. Umar ibn al-Khattab was not seen crying on any day as he was on that day when they heard his voice mentioning the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. They said, "We see or say that the Adhan of the people of Sham on that day is less than his Adhan." Malik said, "I do not know what is the Adhan or the prayer of a day. Sa'd al-Qath called the Adhan in this mosque during the time of Umar ibn al-Khattab and the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ were present in it, and none of them objected to it. So Sa'd and his sons continue to call the Adhan with his Adhan until today. Even if a person who is blind hears from me, I would have thought that this Ummah should unite on their Adhan." Malik was asked, "How was their Adhan?" He said, "They say, 'Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar. Ashhadu allah ilaha illallah, ashhadu allah ilaha illallah, ashhadu anna Muhammadan rasulullah, ashhadu anna Muhammadan rasulullah. Hayya 'ala salah, hayya 'ala salah, hayya'ala alfalah, hayya 'ala alfalah. Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illallah." He said, "And the Iqamah is done once." Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Nasr said, "I see that the scholars of the people of Hadith have unanimously agreed to specify the Iqamah, but they have differed in the Adhan. Some of them chose the Adhan of Abu Mahdhura among them is Malik ibn Anas, al-Shafi'i and their followers. And a group of them chose the Adhan of Abdullah ibn Zaid. The Shaykh among them is al-Auzai, who chose to recite the Adhan twice and specify the Iqamah. [Machine] When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ decided to use the bell to gather the people for prayer, despite his dislike of imitating the Christians, he used to walk around during the night while I was sleeping. A man with two green garments came to me, holding a bell in his hand. I said to him, "O Abdullah, are you following the bell?" He asked, "What do you do with it?" I said, "I call people to prayer with it." He said, "Shall I guide you to something better than that?" I replied, "Yes." He said, "You should say, 'Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Ashhadu alla ilaha illallah, Ashhadu alla ilaha illallah, Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah, Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah, Hayya 'ala as-salah, Hayya 'ala as-salah, Hayya 'ala al-falah, Hayya 'ala al-falah, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, la ilaha illallah.' Then, he paused for a moment and said, 'and then say, when you rise for prayer, 'Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Ashhadu alla ilaha illallah, Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah, Hayya 'ala as-salah, Hayya 'ala al-falah, qad qamatis salah, qad qamatis salah, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, la ilaha illallah.'"

When I woke up in the morning, I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed him of what I had seen. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "This is a true vision, if Allah wills." Then, he commanded for the Adhan to be called, and Bilal, the slave of Abu Bakr, was appointed to call the Adhan. Muhammad ibn Ishaq ibn Yasar narrated this with another chain of narration. Abu 'Ali al-Rawdari informed us, Abu Bakr ibn Dasa informed us, Abu Dawud informed us, Muhammad ibn Mansur al-Tusi informed us, Ya'qub informed us, my father informed me from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, who narrated it from Muhammad ibn Ibrahim ibn al-Harith al-Taymi, who said: My father, Abdullah ibn Zaid ibn Abd Rabeeh, narrated to me that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered the use of the bell to gather the people for prayer, he mentioned the Hadith in his vision and in the description of the Adhan, similar to the Hadith of Ibn Mas'ud.

[Machine] He heard him say, "Indeed, this is the Adhan (call to prayer) of Bilal, which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded, and its establishment. And it is Allah who is the greatest. Allah is the greatest. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah. I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. Then he returns and says, "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah. I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. Come to prayer. Come to prayer. Come to success. Come to success. Allah is the greatest. Allah is the greatest. There is no god but Allah. And the establishment is one. And he says, "The prayer has been established once." He mentioned the rest of the hadeeth in its length. Al-Humaydi said, Abu Isma'il Ibrahim ibn Abdul Aziz ibn Abdul Malik ibn Abi Mahdhurah narrated to me, he said: I heard my grandfather Abdul Malik ibn Abi Mahdhurah narrating from his father Abi Mahdhurah that the Prophet ﷺ recited this Adhan upon Bilal. He mentioned the takbeer in it four times, then he mentioned the Adhan in reverse. Al-Humaydi said, Ibrahim ibn Abdul Aziz ibn Abdul Malik ibn Abi Mahdhurah narrated to me, I accompanied my grandfather, my father, and my family when they would establish the prayer, and they would say the Iqamah separately. And they would say, "Indeed, the prayer has been established." The prayer has been established. Allah is the greatest. Allah is the greatest. There is no god but Allah. Al-Humaydi said, the statement regarding the two of them together is the saying of the people of Makkah. Al-Humaydi said, Abu Mahdhurah testified regarding the Prophet ﷺ that he recited upon him in the first Adhan, "Allah is the greatest. Allah is the greatest. Allah is the greatest. Allah is the greatest." And Sa'd testified regarding Bilal once, so he agreed with Abu Mahdhurah in that. And Abu Mahdhurah added an extra testimony for the second Adhan. So we said, "Indeed, the prayer has been established twice." Because Anas bin Malik said, Bilal was commanded to give the Adhan and to repeat the Iqamah except for the Iqamah. So Anas was a witness that Bilal was commanded to repeat the Iqamah. And because people objected to the people of Madinah regarding their repetition of them. The sheikh said, "And this is the statement that al-Humaydi mentioned, for he only took it from his teacher Muhammad bin Idris ash-Shafi'i, may Allah exalt His mention, as mentioned in his book al-Qadim narrated by al-Za'farani with its meaning in a summarized form."
