nasai-kubra:309Ismāʿīl b. Masʿūd > Yazīd b. Zurayʿ > Hishām / Ibn Abū ʿAbdullāh And Saʿīd > Qatādah > Anas b. Mālik > Mālik b. Ṣaʿṣaʿah > Nabī Allāh ﷺ > Baynā

[Machine] While I was at the house, between sleep and wakefulness, one of the three approached between my legs. I was given a goblet of gold filled with wisdom and faith, so I cut from my neck to my navel and washed my heart with Zamzam water. Then it was filled with wisdom and faith. I was given a white animal smaller than a mule and larger than a donkey, called al-Buraq. I mounted it with Jibril and embarked on the journey. He said, "Then fifty prayers were enjoined upon me." So I returned until I reached Musa, and he said, "What have you been commanded?" I said, "Fifty prayers have been enjoined upon me." He said, "I know better than the people, for I was tested with the children of Israel with more severe than that. And indeed, your nation will not be able to bear that, so return to your Lord and ask Him to reduce it for you." So I returned to my Lord and asked Him to reduce it. He made it forty prayers for me. So I returned until I reached Musa, and he said, "What have you been commanded?" I said, "Forty prayers have been enjoined upon me." He said, "I know better than the people, for I was tested with the children of Israel with more severe than that. And indeed, your nation will not be able to bear that, so return to your Lord and ask Him to reduce it for you." So I returned to my Lord and asked Him to reduce it. He made it thirty prayers for me. So I returned until I reached Musa, and he said, "What have you been commanded?" I said, "Thirty prayers have been enjoined upon me." He said, "I know better than the people, for I was tested with the children of Israel with more severe than that. And indeed, your nation will not be able to bear that, so return to your Lord and ask Him to reduce it for you." So I returned to my Lord and asked Him to reduce it. He made it twenty prayers for me. So I returned until I reached Musa, and he said, "What have you been commanded?" I said, "Twenty prayers have been enjoined upon me." He said, "I know better than the people, for I was tested with the children of Israel with more severe than that. And indeed, your nation will not be able to bear that, so return to your Lord and ask Him to reduce it for you." So I returned to my Lord and asked Him to reduce it. He made it ten prayers for me. So I returned until I reached Musa, and he said, "What have you been commanded?" I said, "Ten prayers have been enjoined upon me." He said, "I know better than the people, for I was tested with the children of Israel with more severe than that. And indeed, your nation will not be able to bear that, so return to your Lord and ask Him to reduce it for you." I said, "I am content and obedient." It was then proclaimed to me that I had fulfilled my obligation, and the burden was lightened for my Ummah, and I would be rewarded for a good deed tenfold. Abu 'Abdur-Rahman reported that Az-Zuhri narrated this Hadith, and Az-Zuhri differed from Qatadah in its chain of narrators and text. Ibn Wahb narrated it from Yunus, from Az-Zuhri, from Anas, from Abu Dhar, and he made a mistake because it is most likely that the name was "Dhar" that is mentioned in place of "Abu Dhar." This Hadith is also narrated from Az-Zuhri from Anas. Thabit reported it from Anas, but he did not mention Malik bin Sasaa'a or Abu Dhar in it.

[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'The roof of my house was opened while I was in Makkah, and Gabriel ﷺ came down and opened my chest and washed it with Zamzam water. Then he brought a golden basin filled with wisdom and faith, and he poured it into my chest and closed it. Then he took me by the hand and ascended with me to the heavens.' The narration continued, 'Ibn Hazm and Anas said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Allah has obligated fifty prayers upon my Ummah (community). I returned with that until I passed by Moses, and he said, 'What has your Lord obligated upon your Ummah?' So I said, 'He has obligated upon them fifty prayers.' Moses said to me, 'Go back to your Lord and ask Him to reduce it, for your Ummah will not be able to bear that.' So I went back to my Lord and He reduced it by half. I returned to Moses and informed him, and he said, 'Go back to your Lord and ask Him to reduce it, for your Ummah will not be able to bear that.' So I went back to my Lord and He said, 'It is five (prayers),' and it remains as fifty in the sight of Allah.' I returned to Moses and he said, 'Go back to your Lord.' So I said, 'I feel too shy to ask my Lord.'"

"When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was taken on the Night Journey, he came to Sidrah Al-Muntaha, which is in the sixth heaven. That is where everything that comes up from below ends, and where everything that comes down from above, until it is taken from it. Allah says: When what covered the lote-tree did cover it! [1] He said: "It was moths of gold. And I was given three things: The five daily prayers, the last verses of Surah Al-Baqarah, and whoever of my Ummah dies without associating anything with Allah will be forgiven for Al-Muqhimat." [2] [1] An-Najm 53:16. [2] "The sins of the worst magnitude that drag one into the Fire." (An-Nihayah) (Using translation from Nasāʾī 451)

[Machine] "And the two angels came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and they took him to Zamzam. They split open his chest and took out his heart in a bowl made of gold. Then they washed it with Zamzam water and put it back in his chest, with wisdom and faith." Abu Abdur Rahman Abdullah Ibn Sa'id, Yahya Ibn Sa'id, and Sa'd Ibn Sa'id Bin Qais Bin Qahd Al-Ansari, who were three brothers, narrated this to us. Yahya was the oldest, the most honorable, and one of the scholars, and he lived in Medina after Al-Zuhri in his time. Abdullah Ibn Sa'id was trustworthy, while Sa'd was weak.

A man from among the people of Najd with disheveled hair came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The humming sound of his voice could be heard but what he was saying could not be understood. He came closer and it was then known that he was asking about Islam. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Five times of prayer each day and night: He asked: Must I observe any more than them? He replied: No, unless you do it voluntarily. He (Talhah) said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned fasting during the month of Ramadan. He asked: Must I observe anything else? He replied: No, unless you do it voluntarily. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned Zakat to him. He asked: Must I pay anything else? He replied: No, unless you do it voluntarily. The man then turned away saying: I swear by Allah, I shall not add anything to this or fall short of it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: The man will be successful if he speaks truth. [Machine] We were with the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , and he said, "Will you not pledge allegiance?" So we responded three times and we stretched out our hands and pledged allegiance to him. Then we said, "O Messenger of Allah, we have already pledged allegiance to you, so why is that?" He said, "To worship Allah alone and not associate anything with Him, to establish the five daily prayers, and to keep secret a matter which should not be disclosed to people." Ibn Muhayriz said: A man from Banu Kinanah, named al-Makhdaji, heard a person called AbuMuhammad in Syria, saying: The witr is a duty (wajib). Al-Makhdaji said: So I went to Ubadah ibn as-Samit and informed him. Ubadah said: AbuMuhammad told a lie. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: There are five prayers which Allah has prescribed on His servants. If anyone offers them, not losing any of them, and not treating them lightly, Allah guarantees that He will admit him to Paradise. If anyone does not offer them, Allah does not take any responsibility for such a person. He may either punish him or admit him to Paradise. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1420)

They said, "No dirt would remain on him." He said, "That is the likeness of the five daily prayers; through them, Allah erases sins." Abu 'Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Had, whose name was Yazid ibn 'Abdullah ibn Usamah ibn al-Had, Abu Salamah whose name was 'Abdullah ibn 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Awf, and Abu Hurairah whose name was 'Abd Amr (may Allah be pleased with them) narrated this. It is also said that his name was 'Abd al-Shams or Suqayn. Sufyan ibn Husayn narrated from al-Zuhri from al-Muharrar ibn Abi Hurairah who said: "My father's name was 'Abd 'Amr ibn 'Abd Ghanim, and Muhammad ibn Yahya informed us from Bakr ibn Bukkar from 'Umar ibn 'Ali ibn Maqdam from Sufyan ibn Husayn from al-Zuhri." Abu 'Abd al-Rahman and Bakr ibn Bukkar are not strong in Hadith, and Sufyan ibn Husayn is not strong in al-Zuhri particularly, and in other cases, there is no harm in narrating from him.

We estimated that he stood in Zuhr for as long as it take to recite thirty verses, as long as Surat As-Sajadah in the fits two Rak'ahs, and half that in the last two. And we estimated that he stood for as long in the fits two Rak'ahs, and half that in the last two. And we estimated that he stood for as long in the first two Rak'ahs of 'Asr as he stood in the last two Rak'ahs of Zuhr, and we estimated that he stood half as long as that in the last two Rak'ahs of 'Asr." Abu Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Munkadir, whose name was Muhammad, told us that he had three sons: Umar ibn Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir, al-Munkadir ibn Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir, and Yusuf ibn Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir. Umar ibn Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir is trustworthy, while al-Munkadir ibn Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir is not strong in preserving hadith, and Yusuf ibn Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir does not have anything in hadith."

[Machine] It is Dhuhr prayer. Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray Dhuhr at the time of Hajirah, while the people were in their homes. So, there would be no one behind him except for the rows of Saf and Safan. Then Allah Almighty revealed, "And observe the prayers and the middle prayer" [Al-Baqarah 2:238]. Amr ibn Abi Hakim opposed him.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to offer the Zuhr prayer in midday heat; and no prayer was harder on the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that this one. Hence the revelation came down: "Be guardians of your prayers, and of the midmost prayer" (2:238). He (the narrator) said: There are two prayers before it and two prayers after it.
