nasai-kubra:359ʿAmr b. ʿAlī > Abū Dāwud > Ibn Abū Dhiʾb > al-Zibriqān > Zuhrah

[Machine] She (referring to the midday prayer) was the one that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to observe with the Hajeer.

nasai-kubra:360Muḥammad b. al-Muthanná

[Machine] I was among a people who differed in regards to the middle prayer and I was the youngest among them. So they sent me to Zaid bin Thabit to ask him about the middle prayer. So I went to him and asked him. He said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray Dhuhr when the sun had passed the zenith, while the people were in their marketplaces and lanes. And he would not lead the prayer behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ except in As-Saff and As-Saffan." So Allah revealed the verse: "Guard strictly the (five obligatory) prayers, especially the middle prayer, and stand before Allah with obedience." (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:238) So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Some men should stop neglecting the prayers, or else I will burn their houses down." Abu 'Abdur-Rahman said, "This is a mistake, and the correct opinion is that it was narrated by Ibn Abi Dhi'b from Az-Zubair bin 'Ammar bin Ummiyah, from Zaid bin Thabit and Usamah bin Zaid."

nasai-kubra:364Qutaybah b. Saʿīd > Mālik > Nāfiʿ > Ibn ʿUmar

Anyone who loses his 'Asr prayer is like a person whose family has perished and whose property has been plundered. Abu Dawud said: 'Abd Allah b. Al-Zuhri reported from Salim on the authority of this father from the Prophet ﷺ the word 'wutira'. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 414)

One night I slept at the house of Maimuna. The Prophet ﷺ woke up, answered the call of nature, washed his face and hands, and then slept. He got up (late at night), went to a water skin, opened the mouth thereof and performed ablution not using much water, yet he washed all the parts properly and then offered the prayer. I got up and straightened my back in order that the Prophet ﷺ might not feel that I was watching him, and then I performed the ablution, and when he got up to offer the prayer, I stood on his left. He caught hold of my ear and brought me over to his right side. He offered thirteen rakʿat in all and then lay down and slept till he started blowing out his breath as he used to do when he slept. In the meantime Bilal informed the Prophet ﷺ of the approaching time for the (Fajr) prayer, and the Prophet offered the Fajr (Morning) prayer without performing new ablution. He used to say in his invocation, Allahumma ijʿal fi qalbi nuran wa fi basari nuran, wa fi samʿi nuran, waʿan yamini nuran, waʿan yasari nuran, wa fawqi nuran, wa tahti nuran, wa amami nuran, wa khalfi nuran, wajʿal li nuran." Kuraib (a sub narrator) said, "I have forgotten seven other words, (which the Prophet ﷺ mentioned in this invocation). I met a man from the offspring of Al-ʿAbbas and he narrated those seven things to me, mentioning, '(Let there be light in) my nerves, my flesh, my blood, my hair and my body,' and he also mentioned two other things." That he spent a night with Maimunah, wife of the Prophet ﷺ, who was also his (Ibn 'Abbas's) maternal aunt. I lay towards the width of the pillow and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his wife slept towards its length. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ slept. When half the night passed, or a little before it or a little after it, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ awoke and began to rub his face (eyes) to remove the sleep. He then recited ten verses from the last part of Surah 'Al-Imran. Hen then came to a bag of water that was hanging. He performed ablution from it and performed his ablution well. He then stood up and prayed. I also got up and did as he did. I then went and stood at his side. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ placed his right hand upon my head and took me by my ear twisting it. He then prayed two rak'ahs, then two rak'ahs, then two rak'ahs, then two rak'ahs, then two rak'ahs, then two rak'ahs. The narrator al-Qa'nabi said: Six times. He observed the witr prayer, and then slept until the mu'adhdhin came. He got up and prayed two light rak'ahs and then came out and offered the dawn prayer. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1367)

How would the Messenger of Allah ﷺ pray during the night ? He replied: I spent a night with him when he was with Maimunah. He slept and awoke when half the night or one-third of it had passed. He stood up and went to a leather bad containing water. He performed ablution and I also performed ablution with him. He then stood up and I also stood at his left side. He made me stand at his right side. He then put his hand upon my head, as he was touching my ear and awakening me. He then prayed two light rak'ahs and recited Surah al-Fatihah in each of them, and uttered the salutation. He then prayed eleven rak'ahs observing the witr and slept. Then Bilal came to him and said: Prayer, Messenger of Allah. He got up and prayed two rak'ahs, and then led the people in the prayer. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1364)

Then he prayed thirteen rak'ahs, and I estimated the amount of time he stood in each rak'ah. In each rak'ah he recited, "O you wrapped in garments" [Surah Al-Muzzammil, verse 1].

Then he got up, performed ablution, and prayed two units of prayer, and then he prayed the Witr prayer with three units.
