Once Messenger of Allah ﷺ delayed the ʿIsha' prayer till ʿUmar informed him that the women and children had slept. The Prophet ﷺ came out and said, "None except you from amongst the dwellers of earth is waiting for this prayer." In those days, there was no prayer except in Medina and they used to pray the ʿIsha' prayer between the disappearance of the twilight and the first third of the night.  

أَعْتَمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِالْعَتَمَةِ حَتَّى نَادَاهُ عُمَرُ نَامَ النِّسَاءُ وَالصِّبْيَانُ فَخَرَجَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ مَا يَنْتَظِرُهَا أَحَدٌ غَيْرُكُمْ مِنْ أَهْلِ الأَرْضِ وَلاَ يُصَلَّى يَوْمَئِذٍ إِلاَّ بِالْمَدِينَةِ وَكَانُوا يُصَلُّونَ الْعَتَمَةَ فِيمَا بَيْنَ أَنْ يَغِيبَ الشَّفَقُ إِلَى ثُلُثِ اللَّيْلِ الأَوَّلِ  

ʿAisha said, "Once Messenger of Allah ﷺ delayed the ʿIsha' prayer till ʿUmar reminded him by saying, "The prayer!" The women and children have slept. Then the Prophet ﷺ came out and said, 'None amongst the dwellers of the earth has been waiting for it (the prayer) except you." ʿUrwa said, "Nowhere except in Medina the prayer used to be offered (in those days)." He further said, "The Prophet ﷺ used to offer the ʿIsha' prayer in the period between the disappearance of the twilight and the end of the first third of the night."  

أَعْتَمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِالْعِشَاءِ حَتَّى نَادَاهُ عُمَرُ الصَّلاَةَ نَامَ النِّسَاءُ وَالصِّبْيَانُ فَخَرَجَ فَقَالَ مَا يَنْتَظِرُهَا أَحَدٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الأَرْضِ غَيْرُكُمْ قَالَ وَلاَ يُصَلَّى يَوْمَئِذٍ إِلاَّ بِالْمَدِينَةِ وَكَانُوا يُصَلُّونَ فِيمَا بَيْنَ أَنْ يَغِيبَ الشَّفَقُ إِلَى ثُلُثِ اللَّيْلِ الأَوَّلِ  

"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ delayed A;-'Atamah one night, and 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, called out to him: 'The women and children have gone to sleep.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out and said: 'No one is waiting for it except you.' At that time no prayer was offered except in Al-Madinah. Then he said: 'Pray it between the time when the twilight disappears and when one-third of the night has passed.'"  

أَعْتَمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَيْلَةً بِالْعَتَمَةِ فَنَادَاهُ عُمَرُ ؓ نَامَ النِّسَاءُ وَالصِّبْيَانُ فَخَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَقَالَ مَا يَنْتَظِرُهَا غَيْرُكُمْ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ يُصَلَّى يَوْمَئِذٍ إِلاَّ بِالْمَدِينَةِ ثُمَّ قَالَ صَلُّوهَا فِيمَا بَيْنَ أَنْ يَغِيبَ الشَّفَقُ إِلَى ثُلُثِ اللَّيْلِ وَاللَّفْظُ لاِبْنِ حِمْيَرَ  

"أعْتَمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِالْعِشَاءِ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ، فَنَادَاهُ عُمَرُ فَقَالَ: نَامَ النِّسَاءُ وَالصِّبْيَانُ فَخَرجَ إِلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ: مَا يَنْتَظِرُ هَذِهِ الصَّلاَةَ أَحَدٌ غَيْرُكُمْ مِنْ أَهْلِ الأَرْضِ قَالَ الزُّهْرِىُّ: وَلَمْ يَكُنْ يُصَلِّى يَوْمَئذٍ إِلاَّ مَنْ بِالْمَدِينَةِ".
