Once Messenger of Allah ﷺ delayed the ʿIsha' prayer till ʿUmar informed him that the women and children had slept. The Prophet ﷺ came out and said, "None except you from amongst the dwellers of earth is waiting for this prayer." In those days, there was no prayer except in Medina and they used to pray the ʿIsha' prayer between the disappearance of the twilight and the first third of the night.  

أَعْتَمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِالْعَتَمَةِ حَتَّى نَادَاهُ عُمَرُ نَامَ النِّسَاءُ وَالصِّبْيَانُ فَخَرَجَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ مَا يَنْتَظِرُهَا أَحَدٌ غَيْرُكُمْ مِنْ أَهْلِ الأَرْضِ وَلاَ يُصَلَّى يَوْمَئِذٍ إِلاَّ بِالْمَدِينَةِ وَكَانُوا يُصَلُّونَ الْعَتَمَةَ فِيمَا بَيْنَ أَنْ يَغِيبَ الشَّفَقُ إِلَى ثُلُثِ اللَّيْلِ الأَوَّلِ  

Messenger of Allah ﷺ once delayed the ʿIsha' prayer and that was during the days when Islam still had not spread. The Prophet ﷺ did not come out till ʿUmar informed him that the women and children had slept. Then he came out and said to the people of the mosque: "None amongst the dwellers of the earth has been waiting for it (ʿIsha prayer) except you."  

أَعْتَمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَيْلَةً بِالْعِشَاءِ وَذَلِكَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَفْشُوَ الإِسْلاَمُ فَلَمْ يَخْرُجْ حَتَّى قَالَ عُمَرُ نَامَ النِّسَاءُ وَالصِّبْيَانُ فَخَرَجَ فَقَالَ لأَهْلِ الْمَسْجِدِ مَا يَنْتَظِرُهَا أَحَدٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الأَرْضِ غَيْرُكُمْ  

"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ delayed 'Isha' until 'Umar called him and said: 'The women and children have gone to sleep.' Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out and said: 'There is no one who is offering this prayer but you.' And at that time no one used to pray except the people of Al-Madinah."  

أَعْتَمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِالْعِشَاءِ حَتَّى نَادَاهُ عُمَرُ ؓ نَامَ النِّسَاءُ وَالصِّبْيَانُ فَخَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ أَحَدٌ يُصَلِّي هَذِهِ الصَّلاَةَ غَيْرُكُمْ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَحَدٌ يُصَلِّي غَيْرَ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ  

"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ delayed A;-'Atamah one night, and 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, called out to him: 'The women and children have gone to sleep.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out and said: 'No one is waiting for it except you.' At that time no prayer was offered except in Al-Madinah. Then he said: 'Pray it between the time when the twilight disappears and when one-third of the night has passed.'"  

أَعْتَمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَيْلَةً بِالْعَتَمَةِ فَنَادَاهُ عُمَرُ ؓ نَامَ النِّسَاءُ وَالصِّبْيَانُ فَخَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَقَالَ مَا يَنْتَظِرُهَا غَيْرُكُمْ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ يُصَلَّى يَوْمَئِذٍ إِلاَّ بِالْمَدِينَةِ ثُمَّ قَالَ صَلُّوهَا فِيمَا بَيْنَ أَنْ يَغِيبَ الشَّفَقُ إِلَى ثُلُثِ اللَّيْلِ وَاللَّفْظُ لاِبْنِ حِمْيَرَ  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed alone until Umar called out to him. Umar said, "The prayer has been called, as even women and children have fallen asleep." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then went out and said, "No one from the people of religions (other than Islam) is waiting for it except for you (referring to Umar and a few others)."  

أَعْتَمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ حَتَّى نَادَاهُ عُمَرُ فَقَالَ الصَّلَاةَ نَامَ النِّسَاءُ وَالصِّبْيَانُ قَالَتْ فَخَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ مَا يَنْتَظِرُهَا أَحَدٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْأَدْيَانِ غَيْرُكُمْ  

"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ delayed 'Isha' until 'Umar called him and said: 'The women and children have gone to sleep.' Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out and said: 'There is no one who is offering this prayer but you.' And at that time no one used to pray except the people of Al-Madinah." "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ delayed 'Isha' until 'Umar called him and said: 'The women and children have gone to sleep.' Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out and said: 'There is no one who is offering this prayer but you.' And at that time no one used to pray except the people of Al-Madinah." أَعْتَمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِالْعِشَاءِ حَتَّى نَادَاهُ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ قَدْ نَامَ النِّسَاءُ وَالصِّبْيَانُ فَخَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ أَحَدٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ يُصَلِّي هَذِهِ الصَّلَاةَ غَيْرَكُمْ» وَلَمْ يَكُنْ أَحَدٌ يُصَلِّي يَوْمَئِذٍ غَيْرَ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ  

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ performed the night prayer, and Umar called out to him and said, "The women and children have fallen asleep." So he went out to them and said, "No one on the face of the earth besides you is awaiting this prayer." And at that time, the prayer was only being performed in Madinah. But Abdullah ibn Abdullah objected to him.  

أَعْتَمَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ فَنَادَاهُ عُمَرُ فَقَالَ نَامَ النِّسَاءُ وَالصِّبْيَانُ فَخَرَجَ إِلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ «مَا يَنْتَظِرُ هَذِهِ الصَّلَاةَ أَحَدٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ غَيْرُكُمْ» وَلَمْ تَكُنْ تُصَلَّى يَوْمَئِذٍ إِلَّا بِالْمَدِينَةِ خَالَفَهُ عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى  

"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ delayed 'Isha' until 'Umar called him and said: 'The women and children have gone to sleep.' Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out and said: 'There is no one who is offering this prayer but you.' And at that time no one used to pray except the people of Al-Madinah." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 482)  

أَعْتَمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِالْعِشَاءِ حَتَّى نَادَاهُ عُمَرُ نَامَ النِّسَاءُ وَالصِّبْيَانُ فَخَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ أَحَدٌ يُصَلِّي هَذِهِ الصَّلَاةَ غَيْرُكُمْ» وَلَمْ يَكُنْ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَحَدٌ يُصَلِّي غَيْرُ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ  

ʿAisha said, "Once Messenger of Allah ﷺ delayed the ʿIsha' prayer till ʿUmar reminded him by saying, "The prayer!" The women and children have slept. Then the Prophet ﷺ came out and said, 'None amongst the dwellers of the earth has been waiting for it (the prayer) except you." ʿUrwa said, "Nowhere except in Medina the prayer used to be offered (in those days)." He further said, "The Prophet ﷺ used to offer the ʿIsha' prayer in the period between the disappearance of the twilight and the end of the first third of the night." أَعْتَمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَيْلَةً بِالْعَتَمَةِ فَنَادَاهُ عُمَرُ نَامَ النِّسَاءُ وَالصِّبْيَانُ فَخَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «مَا يَنْتَظِرُهَا غَيْرُكُمْ» وَلَمْ تَكُنْ تُصَلَّى يَوْمَئِذٍ إِلَّا بِالْمَدِينَةِ ثُمَّ قَالَ «صَلُّوا فِيمَا بَيْنَ أَنْ يَغِيبَ الشَّفَقُ إِلَى ثُلُثِ اللَّيْلِ»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ wore a black cloak until Umar called out to him. He said, "The prayer has been called, women and children have fallen asleep." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out and said, "No one on earth is waiting for it except you. It will not be prayed anywhere else today except in Madinah." They used to pray in the darkness between the disappearance of the evening twilight and the first third of the night.  

اعْتَمَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِالْعَتَمَةِ حَتَّى نَادَاهُ عُمَرُ فَقَالَ الصَّلَاةَ نَامَ النِّسَاءُ وَالصِّبْيَانُ فَخَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ مَا يَنْتَظِرُهَا أَحَدٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ غَيْرُكُمْ وَلَا تُصَلَّى يَوْمَئِذٍ إِلَّا بِالْمَدِينَةِ وَكَانُوا يُصَلُّونَ الْعَتَمَةُ فِيمَا بَيْنَ أَنْ يَغِيبَ شَفَقُ اللَّيْلِ إِلَى ثُلُثِ اللَّيْلِ الْأَوَّلِ  

"أعْتَمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِالْعِشَاءِ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ، فَنَادَاهُ عُمَرُ فَقَالَ: نَامَ النِّسَاءُ وَالصِّبْيَانُ فَخَرجَ إِلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ: مَا يَنْتَظِرُ هَذِهِ الصَّلاَةَ أَحَدٌ غَيْرُكُمْ مِنْ أَهْلِ الأَرْضِ قَالَ الزُّهْرِىُّ: وَلَمْ يَكُنْ يُصَلِّى يَوْمَئذٍ إِلاَّ مَنْ بِالْمَدِينَةِ".
