nasai-kubra:1334ʿAmr b. ʿUthmān b. Saʿīd > Abū And Baqiyyah > Ibn Abū Ḥamzah > al-Zuhrī > ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAbdullāh b. al-Ḥārith b. Nawfal > ʿAbdullāh b. Khabbāb b. al-Arat

[Machine] About his father who had witnessed the Battle of Badr with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he said that he had observed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a night of prayer, during which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ kept vigil until dawn. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished his prayer, Khubbab came to him and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I swear by my father and mother, you have prayed tonight a prayer that I have never seen you pray before." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, it was a prayer of desire and fear. I asked my Lord three things in it, and He gave me two and denied me one. I asked my Lord that He does not destroy us as He destroyed the previous nations, and He granted me that. I asked my Lord that He does not expose us to an enemy other than ourselves, and He granted me that. And I asked my Lord that He does not divide us into sects, and He denied me that."

[Machine] I observed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during a prayer that he performed until it was close to dawn. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ completed his prayer, Khabbab came to him and said, "O Messenger of Allah, by my father and mother, you have prayed tonight in a demanding and fearful manner." He said, "Yes, indeed. It was a prayer of desire and fear. I asked my Lord three things and He granted me two and denied me one. I asked Him not to destroy us as He destroyed the nations before us, and He granted me that. I asked Him not to make our enemies from among others, and He granted me that. And I asked Him not to make us wear the clothes of dissension, and He denied me that."
