Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent some horse men to Najd and they brought a man called Thumama bin Uthal from Bani Hanifa. They fastened him to one of the pillars of the mosque. (Using translation from Bukhārī 469)   

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ يَقُولُ بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ خَيْلًا قِبَلَ نَجْدٍ فَجَاءَتْ بِرَجُلٍ مِنْ بَنِي حَنِيفَةَ يُقَالُ لَهُ ثُمَامَةُ بْنُ أُثَالٍ فَرَبَطُوهُ بِسَارِيَةٍ مِنْ سَوَارِي الْمَسْجِدِ وَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ فِي إِسْلَامِهِ أَخْرَجَاهُ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنْ قُتَيْبَةَ  

[Machine] "Which one of you is Muhammad? And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is reclining between them, so we said to him, 'This is the white one who is reclining.' The man said to him, 'O son of Abdul-Muttalib.' The Prophet ﷺ said to him, 'I have answered you.' The man said to him, 'O Muhammad, I am asking you.' And he continued the conversation."  

أَيُّكُمْ مُحَمَّدٌ؟ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مُتَّكِئٌ بَيْنَ ظَهْرَانَيْهِمْ فَقُلْنَا لَهُ هَذَا الْأَبْيَضُ الْمُتَّكِئُ فَقَالَ لَهُ الرَّجُلُ يَا ابْنَ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ قَدْ أَجَبْتُكَ فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ يَا مُحَمَّدُ إِنِّي سَائِلُكَ قَالَ وَسَاقَ الْحَدِيثَ  

The Jews came to the Prophet (May peace be upon him) and he was sitting in the mosque among his Companions. They said: O Abu al-Qasim, a man and a woman have committed adultery. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 488)   

الْيَهُودُ أَتَوَا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فِي أَصْحَابِهِ فَقَالُوا يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ فِي رَجُلٍ وَامْرَأَةٍ مِنْهُمْ زَنَيَا  

[Machine] "So I entered the mosque and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was praying the Maghrib prayer, reciting from the Quran with a melodious voice that shook my heart."  

فَدَخَلْتُ الْمَسْجِدَ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّي صَلَاةَ الْمَغْرِبِ يَقْرَأُ فِيهَا بِالطُّورِ فَكَأَنَّمَا صُدِعَ قَلْبِي لِقِرَاءَةِ الْقُرْآنِ  

[Machine] A delegation from Thaqeef came to the Prophet ﷺ, so he hosted them in the mosque, in order to soften their hearts. They stipulated to the Prophet ﷺ that they should not be crowded, harmed, answered, or used by anyone other than themselves. The Prophet ﷺ said, "You will not be crowded, harmed, answered, or used by anyone other than yourselves, and there is no goodness in a religion in which there is no prostration." Abu Bakr ibn Furak reported from Abdullah ibn Ja'far, who reported from Yunus ibn Habib, who reported from Abu Dawud, who reported from Hammad ibn Salamah, who reported from Humeid, who reported from Al-Hasan, who reported from Uthman ibn Abu Al-Aas, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ hosted them in a dome in the mosque, to soften their hearts. Then he mentioned the hadith in which they stipulated these conditions when they embraced Islam. It was narrated by Ash'ath from Al-Hasan, transmitted with some of its meanings. Then it was said, "O Messenger of Allah, Did you host them in the mosque while they were still pagans?" He said, "Indeed, the earth does not become impure. Only the son of Adam becomes impure."  

أَنَّ وَفْدَ ثَقِيفٍ قَدِمُوا عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَأَنْزَلَهُمُ الْمَسْجِدَ؛ لِيَكُونَ أَرَقَّ لِقُلُوبِهِمْ فَاشْتَرَطُوا عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنْ لَا يُحْشَرُوا وَلَا يُعْشَرُوا وَلَا يُجَبَّوْا وَلَا يُسْتَعْمَلُ عَلَيْهِمْ مِنْ غَيْرِهِمْ فَقَالَ لَا تُحْشَرُوا وَلَا تُعْشَرُوا وَلَا تُجَبُّوا وَلَا يُسْتَعْمَلْ عَلَيْكُمْ مِنْ غَيْرِكُمْ وَلَا خَيْرَ فِي دِينٍ لَيْسَ فِيهِ رُكُوعٌ 4335 أنبأ أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ فُورَكٍ أنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ حَبِيبٍ ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْزَلَهُمْ فِي قُبَّةٍ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ؛ لِيَكُونَ أَرَقَّ لِقُلُوبِهِمْ ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ فِي اشْتِرَاطِهِمْ حِينَ أَسْلَمُوا وَرَوَاهُ أَشْعَثُ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ مُرْسَلًا بِبَعْضِ مَعْنَاهُ زَادَ فَقِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَنْزَلْتَهُمْ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ وَهُمْ مُشْرِكُونَ؟ فَقَالَ إِنَّ الْأَرْضَ لَا تَنْجَسُ إِنَّمَا يَنْجَسُ ابْنُ آدَمَ
