[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , used to pray two light raka'at when dawn broke, then he would lie down on his right side until the mu'adhdhin came to him.  

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا طَلَعَ الْفَجْرُ صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ خَفِيفَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ اضْطَجَعَ عَلَى شِقِّهِ الْأَيْمَنِ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَهُ الْمُؤَذِّنُ  

[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray eleven rak'ahs at night, in which he would make the witr prayer one rak'ah. And when he finished from it, he would lie on his right side until the mu'adhin came to him to pray two light rak'ahs.  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ يُصَلِّي بِاللَّيْلِ إِحْدَى عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً يُوتِرُ مِنْهَا بِوَاحِدَةٍ فَإِذَا فَرَغَ مِنْهَا اضْطَجَعَ عَلَى شِقِّهِ الْأَيْمَنِ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَهُ الْمُؤَذِّنُ فَيُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ خَفِيفَتَيْنِ  

[Machine] That the Prophet, ﷺ , used to lie down after performing the two units of Fajr prayer, as narrated by others from Shu'bah, from Musa, from Sa'id, from the Prophet, ﷺ , intermittently as mentioned in these narrations. It has been mentioned in the established hadith from Kurayb, from Ibn Abbas, that indicates that his lying down was after Witr prayer. It is also possible that the narration of Malik suggests this. And Allah knows best.  

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيِ الْفَجْرِ اضْطَجَعَ وَرَوَاهُ غَيْرِهِ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ عَنْ مُوسَى عَنْ سَعِيدٍ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ مُنْقَطِعًا كَذَا فِي هَذِهِ الرِّوَايَاتِ وَقَدْ مَضَى فِي الْحَدِيثِ الثَّابِتِ عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ مَا دَلَّ عَلَى أَنَّ اضْطِجَاعِهِ كَانَ بَعْدَ الْوِتْرِ وَقَدْ يَحْتَمِلُ ذَلِكَ مَا احْتَمَلَ رِوَايَةُ مَالِكٍ وَاللهُ أَعْلَمُ  

The Prophet ﷺ said: If any of you prays two rak'ahs before the dawn prayer, he should lie at his right side. Marwan ibn al-Hakam said to him: Is it not enough that one of us walks to the mosque until he lies at his right side? According to the version of Ubaydullah, he (AbuHurayrah) replied: No. This statement (of AbuHurayrah) reached Ibn Umar. He said: AbuHurayrah exceed limits on himself. He was asked: Do you look askance at what he says? He replied: No, but he dared and we showed cowardice. This (criticism of Ibn Umar) reached AbuHurayrah. He said: What is my sin if I remembered and they forgot? (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1261)   

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمُ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ قَبْلَ الصُّبْحِ فَلْيَضْطَجِعْ عَلَى يَمِينِهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ مَرْوَانُ بْنُ الْحَكَمِ أَمَا يُجْزِئُ أَحَدَنَا مَمْشَاهُ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ حَتَّى يَضْطَجِعَ عَلَى يَمِينِهِ؟ قَالَ عُبَيْدُ اللهِ فِي حَدِيثِهِ قَالَ لَا قَالَ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ ابْنَ عُمَرَ فَقَالَ أَكْثَرَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ قَالَ فَقِيلَ لِابْنِ عُمَرَ هَلْ تُنْكِرُ شَيْئًا مِمَّا يَقُولُ؟ قَالَ لَا وَلَكِنَّهُ اجْتَرَأَ وَجَبُنَّا قَالَ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ فَمَا ذَنْبِي إِنْ كُنْتُ حَفِظْتُ وَنَسَوْا وَهَذَا يَحْتَمِلُ أَنْ يَكُونَ الْمُرَادُ بِهِ الْإِبَاحَةَ فَقَدْ  

[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to separate between the two units of the Fajr prayer and the sunrise prayer by lying down on his right side. The Shaykh said, "This is more correct to be preserved in agreement with the rest of the narrations from Aisha and Ibn Abbas."  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ يَفْصِلُ بَيْنَ رَكْعَتَيْهِ مِنَ الْفَجْرِ وَبَيْنَ الصُّبْحِ بِضَجْعَةٍ عَلَى شِقِّهِ الْأَيْمَنِ قَالَ الشَّيْخُ وَهَذَا أَوْلَى أَنْ يَكُونَ مَحْفُوظًا لِمُوَافَقَتِهِ سَائِرَ الرِّوَايَاتِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ وَابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray the two rak'ahs of Fajr prayer. If I was awake, he would talk to me, otherwise he would lie down until he got up for prayer.  

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيِ الْفَجْرِ فَإِنْ كُنْتُ مُسْتَيْقِظَةً حَدَّثَنِي وَإِلَّا اضْطَجَعَ حَتَّى يَقُومَ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ  

When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished his prayer late in the night, he would see. If I was awake, he would talk to me. If I was sleeping, he would awaken me, and pray two rak'ahs, then he would lie down as long as the mu'adhdhin came to him and call him for the dawn prayer. Then he would pray two rak'ahs lightly and come out for prayer. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1262)   

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا قَضَى صَلَاتَهُ مِنْ آخِرِ اللَّيْلِ نَظَرَ فَإِنْ كُنْتُ مُسْتَيْقِظَةً حَدَّثَنِي وَإِنْ كُنْتُ نَائِمَةً أَيْقَظَنِي وَصَلَّى الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ اضْطَجَعَ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَهُ الْمُؤَذِّنُ فَيُؤْذِنَهُ بِصَلَاةِ الصُّبْحِ فَيُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ خَفِيفَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ يَخْرُجُ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ وَهَذَا بِخِلَافِ رِوَايَةِ الْجَمَاعَةِ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ  

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ used to pray at night and then perform the Witr prayer. If I was awake, he would talk to me, and if not, he would lie down until the caller for prayer came to him. Abu Al-Husayn ibn Al-Fadl Al-Qattan informed us, that Abdullah ibn Ja'far narrated from Ya'qub ibn Sufyan, who narrated from Al-Humaydi, who narrated from Sufyan, who narrated from Ziyad ibn Sa'd Al-Khurasani, who narrated from Ibn Abi 'Attab, and Abu Abdullah Al-Hafiz informed me that Abu Al-Walid Al-Faqih narrated from Ibrahim ibn Abi Talib, who narrated from Ibn Abi 'Umar, who narrated from Sufyan, who narrated from Ziyad ibn Sa'd, who narrated from Abdul Rahman ibn Abi Attab, who narrated from Abu Salama ibn Abdul Rahman, who narrated from Aisha, a tradition similar to the narration of Ibn Uyaynah, from Abu Al-Nadr.  

كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِذَا صَلَّى مِنَ اللَّيْلِ ثُمَّ أَوْتَرَ صَلَّى الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ فَإِنْ كُنْتُ مُسْتَيْقِظَةً حَدَّثَنِي وَإِلَّا اضْطَجَعَ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَهُ الْمُنَادِي 4892 أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْقَطَّانُ أنبأ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ثنا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ ثنا سُفْيَانُ ثنا زِيَادُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ الْخُرَاسَانِيُّ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عَتَّابٍ ح وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الْفَقِيهُ ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ثنا ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ ثنا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي عَتَّابٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ مِثْلَ حَدِيثِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ أَبِي النَّضْرِ  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray his night prayer while I was turning in bed between him and the Qibla. When he wanted to perform the Witr prayer, he would touch me with his foot. He used to pray two units of prayer, and if I was awake, he would speak to me, otherwise he would lie down until he would rise for the prayer. Abu Bakr Al-Humaidi said: Sufyan doubted the narration of Abu Al-Nadr and was confused about it, and perhaps he doubted the narration of Ziyad and said, "It has confused me." Then he said more than once: "The narration of Abu Al-Nadr is like this, the narration of Ziyad is like this, and the narration of Muhammad ibn Amr is like this, as I have mentioned." All of that.  

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّي صَلَاتَهُ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ وَأَنَا مُعْتَرِضَةٌ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْقِبْلَةَ فَإِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يُوتِرَ حَرَّكَنِي بِرِجْلِهِ وَكَانَ يُصَلِّي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ فَإِنْ كُنْتُ مُسْتَيْقِظَةً حَدَّثَنِي وَإِلَّا اضْطَجَعَ حَتَّى يَقُومَ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ قَالَ وَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْحُمَيْدِيُّ كَانَ سُفْيَانُ يَشُكُّ فِي حَدِيثِ أَبِي النَّضْرِ وَيَضْطَرِبُ فِيهِ وَرُبَّمَا يَشُكُّ فِي حَدِيثِ زِيَادٍ وَيَقُولُ تَخَلَّطَ عَلَيَّ ثُمَّ قَالَ غَيْرَ مَرَّةٍ حَدِيثُ أَبِي النَّضْرِ كَذَا وَحَدِيثُ زِيَادٍ كَذَا وَحَدِيثُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو كَذَا عَلَى مَا ذَكَرْتُ كُلَّ ذَلِكَ  

I came out with the Prophet ﷺ to offer the dawn prayer. When he passed by a sleeping man he called him for prayer or moved him with his foot. The narrator Ziyad said: This tradition has been reported to us by AbulFadl. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1264)   

خَرَجْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ لِصَلَاةِ الصُّبْحِ فَكَانَ لَا يَمُرُّ بِرَجُلٍ إِلَّا نَادَاهُ بِالصَّلَاةِ أَوْ حَرَّكَهُ بِرِجْلِهِ قَالَ زِيَادٌ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْفَضْلِ  

[Machine] Return to them and ask them about what led them to do what they did. So, I went back to them and asked them, and they said, "We seek the Sunnah." He said, "Go back to them and inform them that it is an innovation, and Imam Ash-Shafi'i, may Allah have mercy on him, pointed out that the narrated sleeping in past reports is for distinguishing between the optional and obligatory prayers. It does not matter whether this distinction is made by sleeping, reporting, or moving from that place or elsewhere. Sleeping is not necessary for that, and Allah knows best.  

ارْجِعْ إِلَيْهِمْ فَسَلْهُمْ مَا حَمَلَهُمْ عَلَى مَا صَنَعُوا فَأَتَيْتُهُمْ وَسَأَلْتُهُمْ فَقَالُوا نُرِيدُ السُّنَّةَ قَالَ ارْجِعْ إِلَيْهِمْ فَأَخْبِرْهُمْ أَنَّهَا بِدْعَةٌ وَقَدْ أَشَارَ الشَّافِعِيُّ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ تَعَالَى إِلَى أَنَّ الِاضْطِجَاعَ الْمُنْقُولَ فِيمَا مَضَى مِنَ الْأَخْبَارِ لِلْفَصْلِ بَيْنَ النَّافِلَةِ وَالْفَرِيضَةِ ثُمَّ سَوَاءٌ كَانَ ذَلِكَ الْفَصْلُ بِالِاضْطِجَاعِ أَوِ التَّحْدِيثِ أَوِ التَّحَوُّلِ مِنْ ذَلِكَ الْمَكَانِ أَوْ غَيْرِهِ وَالِاضْطِجَاعُ غَيْرُ مُتَعَيِّنٍ لِذَلِكَ وَاللهُ أَعْلَمُ
