[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When one of you wakes up in the morning and has not performed the Witr prayer, then let him perform it."  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا أَصْبَحَ أَحَدُكُمْ وَلَمْ يُوتِرْ فَلْيُوتِرْ  

[Machine] 'Aasim al-Nabeel said about Ibn Jurayj, from Ziyad, that Abu Nuhaik informed him about Abu al-Darda', that he gave a sermon and said, "Whoever reaches the morning prayer, there is no witr for him." This was mentioned to 'Aisha, and she said, "Abu al-Darda' is lying. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to offer witr prayer in the morning." It was asked to Abu 'Aasim, who mentioned this besides Ziyad? He said, Ibn Jurayj narrated to me and said, Ziyad informed me, referring to Ibn Saad.  

عَاصِمٍ النَّبِيلَ يَقُولُ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ عَنْ زِيَادٍ أَنَّ أَبَا نُهَيْكٍ أَخْبَرَهُ عَنْ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءَ ؓ أَنَّهُ خَطَبَ فَقَالَ مَنْ أَدْرَكَهُ الصُّبْحَ فَلَا وِتْرَ لَهُ فَذُكِرَ ذَلِكَ لِعَائِشَةَ ؓ فَقَالَتْ كَذَبَ أَبُو الدَّرْدَاءَ كَانَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يُصْبِحُ فَيُوتِرُ قِيلَ لِأَبِي عَاصِمٍ مَنْ دُونَ زِيَادٍ؟ قَالَ ثنا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي زِيَادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَعْدٍ  

[Machine] Perhaps I saw the Prophet ﷺ offer the Witr prayer while the people were standing for the Fajr prayer. Hatim ibn Salim al-Basri, also known as al-A'raj, performed it individually with him. And the hadith of Ibn Jurayj is considered more authentic than that, and Allah knows best.  

رُبَّمَا رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يُوتِرُ وَقَدْ قَامَ النَّاسَ لِصَلَاةِ الصُّبْحِ تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ حَاتِمُ بْنُ سَالِمِ الْبَصْرِيُّ وَيُقَالُ لَهُ الْأَعْرَجِيُّ وَحَدِيثُ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ أَصَحُّ مِنْ ذَلِكَ وَاللهُ أَعْلَمُ  

[Machine] That the Prophet ﷺ woke up and performed the Witr prayer, and I found him in the great benefits.  

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أَصْبَحَ فَأَوْتَرَ كَذَا وَجَدْتُهُ فِي الْفَوَائِدِ الْكَبِيرِ  

[Machine] Ibn Umar woke up and did not perform the evening prayer, or he almost missed it. He prayed the morning prayer, or he would pray it if Allah wills, and then he performed the night prayer. This is closer to the truth and Allah knows best.  

أَصْبَحَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ وَلَمْ يُوتِرْ أَوْ كَادَ يُصْبِحُ أَوْ أَصْبَحَ إِنْ شَاءَ اللهُ تَعَالَى ثُمَّ أَوْتَرَ وَهَذَا أَشْبَهُ وَاللهُ أَعْلَمُ  

[Machine] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Prophet of Allah, I have woken up and have not performed the Witr prayer." The Prophet replied, "Verily, Witr is performed during the night in three or four units, so stand and perform Witr."  

أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ إِنِّي أَصْبَحْتُ وَلَمْ أَوْتِرْ قَالَ إِنَّمَا الْوِتْرُ بِاللَّيْلِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ أَوْ أَرْبَعًا قُمْ فَأَوْتِرْ  

[Machine] Ali went out to the market and I followed him. He went up the stairs and faced the dawn, saying, "And [by] the night when it passes, and [by] the morning when it breathes" [Quran 81:18]. He asked, "Where is the one asking about the Witr prayer?" Yes, this is the time for the Witr prayer, it is 4524. And with this narration, Ismail bin Abi Khalid reported on the authority of Abu Abdul Rahman al-Sulami who said, "Ali went out from this door and said, 'Yes, this is the time for the Witr prayer.'" Then the residence was at that place.  

خَرَجَ عَلِيٌّ ؓ إِلَى السُّوقِ وَأَنَا بَإِثْرِهِ فَقَامَ عَلَى الدَّرَجِ فَاسْتَقْبَلَ الْفَجْرَ فَقَالَ {وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا عَسْعَسَ وَالصُّبْحِ إِذَا تَنَفَّسَ} [التكوير 18] أَيْنَ السَّائِلُ عَنِ الْوِتْرِ؟ نِعْمَ سَاعَةُ الْوِتْرِ هَذِهِ 4524 وَبِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ أنبأ إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي خَالِدٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ السُّلَمِيِّ قَالَ خَرَجَ عَلِيٌّ ؓ مِنْ هَذَا الْبَابِ فَقَالَ نِعْمَ سَاعَةُ الْوِتْرِ ثُمَّ كَانَتِ الْإِقَامَةُ عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ  

[Machine] And [by] the night when it passes and [by] the morning when it breathes. Where are those who ask about Al-Witr (The Odd) (compulsory prayer)? Yes, this is the time of Al-Witr (The Odd) prayer, this time.  

{وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا عَسْعَسَ وَالصُّبْحِ إِذَا تَنَفَّسَ} [التكوير 18] أَيْنَ السَّائِلُونَ عَنِ الْوِتْرِ؟ نِعْمَ سَاعَةُ الْوِتْرِ هَذِهِ هَذِهِ  

[Machine] He drowned in the dispute so he exaggerated in giving a fatwa for everything between you and the Fajr prayer. And "Witr" is when you perform it, it is good.  

لَقَدْ أَغْرَقَ النَّزْعَ فَأَفْرَطَ فِي الْفَتْوَى كُلُّ شَيْءٍ مَا بَيْنَكَ وَبَيْنَ صَلَاةِ الْغَدَاةِ وِتْرٌ مَتَى أَوْتَرْتَ فَحَسَنٌ  

[Machine] "Abdullah ibn Mas'ood said, Witr prayer is the prayer that is performed between the last prayer of Isha and the prayer of Fajr."  

قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ الْوِتْرُ مَا بَيْنَ صَلَاتَيْنِ صَلَاةِ الْعِشَاءِ الْآخِرَةِ إِلَى صَلَاةِ الْفَجْرِ  

[Machine] I heard Abdullah ibn Mas'ood calling out with the call of Al-Witr, the prayer that is performed between the prayers of Al-Isha and Al-Fajr. Whenever you perform it, it is excellent.  

سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ يُنَادِي بِهِ نِدَاءً الْوِتْرُ مَا بَيْنَ الصَّلَاتَيْنِ صَلَاةِ الْعِشَاءِ وَصَلَاةِ الْفَجْرِ مَتَى مَا أَوْتَرْتَ فَحَسَنٌ  

[Machine] "And they do not give permission until their words are completed, and they do not give permission until they think it is the statement of Al-Aswad or Abi Ishaq. And in it is a comparison, for it has been narrated that the first adhan in Al-Hijaz was before dawn, and Aisha used to pray before the sunrise or intended by it the second adhan. And on this, the narration of Ismail ibn Abi Khalid from Abu Ishaq comes, he said, Aisha used to alternate between yawning and standing up straight, and her opinion in that goes back to what we have narrated from Ali and Abdullah."  

وَمَا يُؤَذِّنُونَ حَتَّى يُصْبِحُوا قَوْلُهُ وَمَا يُؤَذِّنُونَ حَتَّى يُصْبِحُوا أَظُنُّهُ مِنْ قَوْلِ الْأَسْوَدِ أَوْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ وَفِيهِ نَظَرٌ فَقَدْ رُوِّينَا أَنَّ الْآذَانَ الْأَوَّلَ بِالْحِجَازِ كَانَ قَبْلَ الصُّبْحِ وَكَانَتْ عَائِشَةُ ؓ تُصَلِّي قَبْلَ طُلُوعِ الْفَجْرِ أَوْ أَرَادَ بِهِ الْأَذَانَ الثَّانِي وَعَلَى ذَلِكَ تَدُلُّ رِوَايَةُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ عَنْ أَبَى إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ كَانَتْ عَائِشَةُ ؓ تُوتِرُ فِيمَا بَيْنَ التَّثْوِيبِ وَالْإِقَامَةِ فَيَرْجِعُ مَذْهَبُهَا فِي ذَلِكَ إِلَى مَا رُوِّينَا عَنْ عَلِيٍّ وَعَبْدِ اللهِ ؓ  

[Machine] The servant, look at what the people have done while his vision had gone, and the servant went away. Then he returned and said, the people have already dispersed since morning. Abdullah ibn Abbas then stood up, performed the Witr prayer, and then prayed the morning prayer.  

لِخَادِمِهِ انْظُرْ مَا صَنَعَ النَّاسُ وَهُوَ يَوْمَئِذٍ قَدْ ذَهَبَ بَصَرُهُ فَذَهَبَ الْخَادِمُ ثُمَّ رَجَعَ فَقَالَ قَدِ انْصَرَفَ النَّاسُ مِنَ الصُّبْحِ فَقَامَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ فَأَوْتَرَ ثُمَّ صَلَّى الصُّبْحَ  

[Machine] It does not matter to me if the prayer is established while I am performing the Witr prayer.  

مَا أُبَالِي لَوْ أُقِيمَتِ الصَّلَاةُ وَأَنَا أَوتِرُ  

[Machine] To deliberately do that until he puts his instrument down after dawn.  

أَنْ يَتَعَمَّدَ ذَلِكَ حَتَّى يَضَعَ وِتْرَهُ بَعْدَ الْفَجْرِ
