3. Ṣalāh (Ritual Prayer)

٣۔ كِتَابُ الصَّلَاةِ

3.322 [Machine] The guide indicates that it (referring to something) only wraps it when it is spacious, and when it is narrow, it is worn and its prayers are valid.

[Machine] "When we entered upon him, we found him praying in a garment wrapped around him, and his cloak was close to him. If he wanted to take it, it would have reached him. So when he finished praying, we asked him about his prayer in one garment. He said, 'I do this so that the fools like you may see me, and then they may spread the news that Jabir has been granted a permission by the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ .' He told me that while I was out with the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , on one of his journeys, I came to him one night for a matter of mine and found him praying, and I had only one garment. So, I spread it out and prayed beside him. When he finished, he said, 'What is this, O Jabir?' So, I informed him of my need. He said, 'O Jabir, what is this garment you spread out?' I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, it was a tight garment.' He said, 'When you pray and you have one garment, then wrap yourself in it. And if it is spacious, then spread it out and pray on it. And if it is tight, then cover yourself with it.'" The Sheikh mentioned in my book is Sa'id bin Sulaiman bin Al-Harith, in the handwriting of Al-Shirazi. The correct narration is Sa'id bin Al-Harith."

we came to Jabir b. ‘Abd Allah. He said : I (Jabir) accompanied the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a battle. He got up to pray. I had a sheet of cloth upon me, and I began to cross both the ends, but they did not reach (my shoulders). It had fringes which I turned over and crossed the two ends, and bowed down retaining it with my neck lest it should fall down. Then I came and stood on the left side of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He then took and brought me around him and set me on his right side. Then Ibn Sakhr came and stood on his left side. he then took us with his both hands and made us stand behind him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ began to look at me furtive glances, but I could not understand. When I understood, he hinted at me tie the wrapper. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished the prayer, he said (to me): O Jabir. I said; Yes, Messenger of Allah. He said; if it (the sheet) is wide, cross both its ends (over the shoulders); if it is tight, tie it over your loins. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 634)

[Machine] The wife of the Prophet ﷺ said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray in a single garment, some of which was over me and some of which was over him, while I was in a state of menstruation. This is also confirmed by Aisha. This serves as evidence for the permissibility of praying in a single garment, even if there is nothing on the shoulder from it."
