[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not come out to us three times, so the prayer was established. Abu Bakr went and led the people in prayer. Then the Prophet ﷺ raised the veil, and we did not see a more fascinating sight than when the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ became clear to us. The Prophet ﷺ gestured to Abu Bakr to come forward and the Prophet ﷺ dropped the veil, but Abu Bakr did not reach him before he died.  

لَمْ يَخْرُجْ إِلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ثَلَاثًا فَأُقِيمَتِ الصَّلَاةُ فَذَهَبَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ؓ يُصَلِّي بِالنَّاسِ فَرَفَعَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ الْحِجَابَ فَمَا رَأَيْنَا مَنْظَرًا أَعْجَبَ إِلَيْنَا مِنْهُ حِينَ وَضَحَ لَنَا وَجْهُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَوْمَأَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ أَنْ يَتَقَدَّمَ وَأَرْخَى نَبِيُّ اللهِ ﷺ الْحِجَابَ فَلَمْ يُوصَلْ إِلَيْهِ حَتَّى مَاتَ  

Anas bin Malik Al-Ansari, told me, "Abu Bakr used to lead the people in prayer during the fatal illness of the Prophet ﷺ till it was Monday. When the people aligned (in rows) for the prayer the Prophet ﷺ lifted the curtain of his house and started looking at us and was standing at that time. His face was (glittering) like a page of the Qur'an and he smiled cheerfully. We were about to be put to trial for the pleasure of seeing the Prophet, Abu Bakr retreated to join the row as he thought that the Prophet ﷺ would lead the prayer. The Prophet ﷺ beckoned us to complete the prayer and he let the curtain fall. On the same day he died." (Using translation from Bukhārī 680)   

أَخْبَرَنِي أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ وَكَانَ تَبِعَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ وَخَدَمَهُ وَصَحِبَهُ أَنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ ؓ كَانَ يُصَلِّي بِهِمْ فِي وَجَعِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ الَّذِي تُوُفِّيَ فِيهِ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ يَوْمُ الِاثْنَيْنِ وَهُمْ صُفُوفٌ فِي الصَّلَاةِ كَشَفَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ سِتْرَ الْحُجْرَةِ يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْنَا وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ كَأَنَّ وَجْهَهُ وَرَقَةُ مُصْحَفٍ ثُمَّ تَبَسَّمَ فَضَحِكَ قَالَ فَهَمَمْنَا أَنْ نَفْتَتِنَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ مِنْ فَرِحٍ بِرُؤْيَةِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَنَكَصَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ عَلَى عَقِبَيْهِ لِيَصِلَ الصَّفَّ وَظَنَّ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ خَارِجٌ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ قَالَ فَأَشَارَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَيْنَا بِيَدِهِ أَنْ أَتِمُّوا صَلَاتَكُمْ ثُمَّ دَخَلَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَأَرْخَى السِّتْرَ فَتُوُفِّيَ مِنْ يَوْمِهِ ذَلِكَ  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever hears the caller to prayer and does not prevent himself from following it, an excuse for not praying will not be accepted from him." They asked, "What is the excuse?" He said, "Fear or illness." Abu Sa'ad Al-Maliyini informed us, Abu Ahmad bin 'Adi informed us, Muhammad bin Dawud bin Dinar informed us, Abu Raja' Qutaybah bin Sa'id mentioned it in a similar way, except he said, "They asked, 'What is his excuse?' He said, 'Fear or illness.' And he said, 'That is the prayer he prayed.'"  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَنْ سَمِعَ الْمُنَادِيَ فَلَمْ يَمْنَعْهُ مِنِ اتِّبَاعِهِ عُذْرٌ لَمْ تُقْبَلْ مِنْهُ الصَّلَاةُ الَّتِي صَلَّى قَالُوا وَمَا الْعُذْرُ؟ قَالَ خَوْفٌ أَوْ مَرَضٌ 5048 وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو سَعْدٍ الْمَالِينِيُّ أنبأ أَبُو أَحْمَدَ بْنُ عَدِيٍّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ بْنِ دِينَارٍ ثنا أَبُو رَجَاءٍ قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ فَذَكَرَهُ بِمِثْلِهِ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ قَالُوا وَمَا عُذْرُهُ؟ قَالَ خَوْفٌ أَوْ مَرَضٌ وَقَالَ تِلْكَ الصَّلَاةُ الَّتِي صَلَّاهَا
