[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Gabriel tied me up at the House (meaning the Kaaba) twice, then he narrated to me, and in it he said, 'Then he prayed the Maghrib prayer with me when the fasting people broke their fast.' And he said in the other time, 'Then he prayed the Maghrib prayer with me when the fasting people broke their fast.'"  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَمَّنِي جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ عِنْدَ الْبَيْتِ مَرَّتَيْنِ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ وَفِيهِ قَالَ ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِيَ الْمَغْرِبَ حِينَ أَفْطَرَ الصَّائِمَ وَقَالَ فِي الْمَرَّةِ الْأُخْرَى ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِيَ الْمَغْرِبَ حِينَ أَفْطَرَ الصَّائِمُ  

"Jibril, peace be upon him, came to the Prophet ﷺ when the sun had passed its zenith and said: 'Get up, O Muhammad, and pray Zuhr when the sun has passed its zenith.' Then he waited until a man's shadow was equal to his height. Then he came to him for 'Asr and said: 'Get up, O Muhammad, and pray 'Asr.' Then he waited until the sunset, then he came to him and said: 'Get up, O Muhammad, and pray Maghrib.' So he got up and prayed it when the sun had set. Then he waited until the twilight disappeared, then he came to him and said: 'Get up, O Muhammad, and pray 'Isha'.' So he got up and prayed it. Then he came to him when dawn broke and said: 'Get up, O Muhammad, and pray.' So he got up and prayed Subh.' So he got up and prayed Subh. Then he came to him the next day when a man's shadow was equal to his height, and said: 'Get up, O Muhammad, and pray.' So he prayed Zuhr. Then Jibril came to him when a man's shadow was equal to twice his length and said: 'Get up, O Muhammad, and pray.' So he prayed 'Asr. Then he came to him for Maghrib when the sun set, at exactly the same time as the day before, and said: 'Get up, O Muhammad, and pray.' So he prayed Maghrib. Then he came to him for 'Isha' when the first third of the night had passed, and said: 'Get up and pray.' So he prayed 'Isha'. Then he came to him for Subh when it had become very bright, and said: 'Get up and pray.' So he prayed Subh. Then he said: 'The times of prayer one between those two (limits).'" جَاءَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ حِينَ زَالَتِ الشَّمْسُ فَقَالَ قُمْ يَا مُحَمَّدُ فَصَلِّ الظُّهْرَ فَقَامَ فَصَلَّى الظُّهْرَ حِينَ زَالَتِ الشَّمْسُ ثُمَّ مَكَثَ حَتَّى كَانَ فَيْءُ الرَّجُلِ مِثْلَهُ فَجَاءَهُ فَقَالَ قُمْ يَا مُحَمَّدُ فَصَلِّ الْعَصْرَ فَقَامَ فَصَلَّى الْعَصْرَ ثُمَّ مَكَثَ حَتَّى غَابَتِ الشَّمْسُ فَقَالَ قُمْ فَصَلِّ الْمَغْرِبَ فَقَامَ فَصَلَّاهَا حِينَ غَابَتْ سَوَاءً ثُمَّ مَكَثَ حَتَّى ذَهَبَ الشَّفَقُ فَجَاءَهُ فَقَالَ قُمْ فَصَلِّ الْعِشَاءَ فَقَامَ فَصَلَّاهَا ثُمَّ جَاءَهُ حِينَ سَطَعَ الْفَجْرُ لِلصُّبْحِ فَقَالَ قُمْ يَا مُحَمَّدُ فَصَلِّ فَقَامَ فَصَلَّى الصُّبْحَ ثُمَّ جَاءَهُ مِنَ الْغَدِ حِينَ كَانَ فَيْءُ الرَّجُلِ مِثْلَهُ فَقَالَ قُمْ يَا مُحَمَّدُ فَصَلِّ الظُّهْرَ فَقَامَ فَصَلَّى الظُّهْرَ ثُمَّ جَاءَهُ حِينَ كَانَ فَيْءُ الرَّجُلِ مِثْلَيْهِ فَقَالَ قُمْ يَا مُحَمَّدُ فَصَلِّ فَقَامَ فَصَلَّى الْعَصْرَ ثُمَّ جَاءَهُ الْمَغْرِبُ حِينَ غَابَتِ الشَّمْسُ وَقْتًا وَاحِدًا لَمْ يَزَلْ عَنْهُ فَقَالَ قُمْ فَصَلِّ الْمَغْرِبَ ثُمَّ جَاءَهُ الْعِشَاءُ حِينَ ذَهَبَ ثُلُثُ اللَّيْلِ الْأَوَّلُ فَقَالَ قُمْ فَصَلِّ الْعِشَاءَ ثُمَّ جَاءَهُ الصُّبْحُ حِينَ أَسْفَرَ جِدًّا فَقَالَ قُمْ فَصَلِّ الصُّبْحَ ثُمَّ قَالَ مَا بَيْنَ هَذَيْنِ كُلُّهُ وَقْتٌ وَبِمَعْنَاهُ  

[Machine] Gabriel ﷺ came to the Prophet ﷺ to teach him how to pray. He came to him when the sun had set, and Gabriel and the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , prayed behind him with the people following the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , then they prayed the Dhuhr prayer. Then Gabriel came to him when the shadow became the height of a man, and Gabriel and the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , prayed behind him with the people following the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , then they prayed the Asr prayer. Then Gabriel came to him when the sun began to set, and Gabriel and the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , prayed behind him with the people following the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , then they prayed the Maghrib prayer. He mentioned the rest of the hadith and said, "Then the next day he came to him when the sun reached its zenith at one time, so Gabriel and the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , prayed behind him with the people following the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , then they prayed the Maghrib prayer." He said and he said at the end, "There is no time between the prayers." Then a man asked the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , about the prayer, so he prayed with them as Gabriel, ﷺ , had prayed with him. Then he said, "Where is the one who asked about the prayer? There is no time between the prayers."  

أَنَّ جِبْرِيلَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يُعَلِّمُهُ الصَّلَاةَ فَجَاءَهُ حِينَ زَالَتِ الشَّمْسُ فَتَقَدَّمَ جِبْرِيلُ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ خَلْفَهُ وَالنَّاسُ خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَصَلَّى الظُّهْرَ ثُمَّ جَاءَهُ حِينَ صَارَ الظِّلُّ مِثْلَ قَامَةِ شَخَصِ الرَّجُلِ فَتَقَدَّمَ جِبْرِيلُ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ خَلْفَهُ وَالنَّاسُ خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَصَلَّى الْعَصْرَ ثُمَّ جَاءَهُ حِينَ وَجَبَتِ الشَّمْسُ فَتَقَدَّمَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ خَلْفَهُ وَالنَّاسُ خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَصَلَّى الْمَغْرِبَ ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ بَاقِي الْحَدِيثِ وَقَالَ فِيهِ ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ الْيَوْمَ الثَّانِي جَاءَهُ حِينَ وَجَبَتِ الشَّمْسُ لِوَقْتٍ وَاحِدٍ فَتَقَدَّمَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ خَلْفَهُ وَالنَّاسُ خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَصَلَّى الْمَغْرِبَ قَالَ وَقَالَ فِي آخِرِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ مَا بَيْنَ الصَّلَاتَيْنِ وَقْتٌ قَالَ فَسَأَلَ رَجُلٌ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ كَمَا صَلَّى بِهِ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَيْنَ السَّائِلُ عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ؟ مَا بَيْنَ الصَّلَاتَيْنِ وَقْتٌ  

[Machine] A man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the timing of prayer. He prayed Dhuhr when the shadow was as long as the handle of a spear, and he prayed Asr when the shadow was the same length. He prayed Maghrib when the sun had set, and he prayed Isha when the twilight had disappeared. He prayed Fajr when the first light of dawn appeared. Then he prayed Dhuhr on the second day when the shadow was the same length, and he prayed Asr when the shadow was the same length. He prayed Maghrib when the sun had set, and he prayed Isha in the third of the night. He prayed Fajr after it had become bright. Then he said, "Verily, Jibreel informed me that the time between these two times is a time."  

سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَنْ وَقْتِ الصَّلَاةِ فَصَلَّى الظُّهْرَ حِينَ فَاءَ الْفَيْءَ وَصَلَّى الْعَصْرَ حِينَ صَارَ ظِلُّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ مِثْلَهُ وَصَلَّى الْمَغْرِبَ حِينَ وَجَبَتِ الشَّمْسُ وَصَلَّى الْعِشَاءَ حِينَ غَابَ الشَّفَقُ وَصَلَّى الصُّبْحَ حِينَ بَدَا أَوَّلُ الْفَجْرِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى الظُّهْرَ الْيَوْمَ الثَّانِي حِينَ كَانَ ظِلُّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ مِثْلَهُ وَصَلَّى الْعَصْرَ حِينَ كَانَ ظِلُّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ مِثْلَيْهِ وَصَلَّى الْمَغْرِبَ حِينَ وَجَبَتِ الشَّمْسُ وَصَلَّى الْعِشَاءَ فِي ثُلُثِ اللَّيْلِ وَصَلَّى الصُّبْحَ بَعْدَ مَا أَسْفَرَ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ أَمَّنِي لَيُعَلِّمَكُمْ أَنَّ مَا بَيْنَ هَذَيْنِ الْوَقْتَيْنِ وَقْتٌ  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ هَذَا جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ يُعَلِّمُكُمْ دِينَكُمْ ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ مَوَاقِيتَ الصَّلَاةِ ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ أَنَّهُ صَلَّى الْمَغْرِبَ حِينَ غَرَبَتِ الشَّمْسُ ثُمَّ لَمَّا جَاءَهُ مِنَ الْغَدِ صَلَّى الْمَغْرِبَ حِينَ غَرَبَتِ الشَّمْسُ فِي وَقْتٍ وَاحِدٍ  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ informed them that the angel Gabriel came to him and prayed with him in two occasions, except for the Maghrib Salah. He mentioned that Gabriel came to him in the Maghrib time and prayed with him for an hour after the sun had set. Then, Gabriel came to him the next day in the Maghrib time and prayed with him for an hour after the sun had set. Muhammad did not change him. This was reported by Ammar ibn Saad al-Mu'adhdhin, Abu Bakr ibn Hazm, Abu Mas'ud al-Ansari, Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, and Abdullah ibn Umar in this story about the Maghrib Salah in a similar manner.  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ حَدَّثَهُمْ أَنَّ جِبْرِيلَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ أَتَاهُ فَصَلَّى بِهِ الصَّلَوَاتِ فِي وَقْتَيْنِ إِلَّا الْمَغْرِبَ قَالَ فَجَاءَنِي فِي الْمَغْرِبِ فَصَلَّى بِيَ سَاعَةَ غَابَتِ الشَّمْسُ ثُمَّ جَاءَنِي مِنَ الْغَدِ فِي الْمَغْرِبِ فَصَلَّى بِيَ سَاعَةَ غَابَتِ الشَّمْسُ لَمْ يُغَيِّرْهُ مُحَمَّدٌ هُوَ ابْنُ عَمَّارِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ الْمُؤَذِّنُ وَرُوِّينَا عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ حَزْمٍ عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ وَعَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ وَعَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ فِي هَذِهِ الْقِصَّةِ فِي صَلَاةِ الْمَغْرِبِ بِنَحْوِ ذَلِكَ  

[Machine] We used to pray with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ the Maghrib prayer when it got dark with the veil.  

كُنَّا نُصَلِّي مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ الْمَغْرِبَ إِذَا تَوَارَتْ بِالْحِجَابِ  

[Machine] We used to pray Maghrib during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and after finishing the prayer, one of us would look at the noble positions mentioned in the Sahihayn from the hadith of Al-Oza'i.  

كُنَّا نُصَلِّي الْمَغْرِبَ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَيَنْصَرِفُ أَحَدُنَا وَإِنَّهُ لَيَنْظُرُ إِلَى مَوَاقِعِ نَبْلِهِ مُخَرَّجٌ فِي الصَّحِيحَيْنِ مِنْ حَدِيثِ الْأَوْزَاعِيِّ  

[Machine] We used to pray Maghrib (evening prayer) with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , then we would go to Bani Salamah, if we had thrown (stones) we would have seen where we hit.  

كُنَّا نُصَلِّي مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ الْمَغْرِبَ ثُمَّ نَأْتِي بَنِي سَلَمَةَ فَلَوْ رَمَيْنَا لَرَأَيْنَا مَوَاقِعَ نَبْلِنَا  

[Machine] We used to pray Maghrib prayer with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, then we would go to the market. If we had thrown stones at it, we would have seen its locations.  

كُنَّا نُصَلِّي مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ الْمَغْرِبَ ثُمَّ نَأْتِي السُّوقَ فَلَوْ رَمَيْنَا بِالنَّبْلِ لَرَأَيْنَا مَوَاقِعَهَا  

[Machine] That people may think that you have seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and then you act as if you have heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "My nation will always be in goodness or upon the natural inclination as long as they do not delay the Maghrib prayer until the stars appear."  

أَنْ يَظُنَّ النَّاسُ أَنَّكَ رَأَيْتَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ ثُمَّ تَصْنَعُ هَكَذَا سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ لَا تَزَالُ أُمَّتِي بِخَيْرٍ أَوْ عَلَى الْفِطْرَةِ مَا لَمْ يُؤَخِّرُوا الْمَغْرِبَ حَتَّى تَشْتَبِكَ النُّجُومُ  

[Machine] Pray Dhuhr when the sun starts to fade, and Asr when the sun turns pure white before it becomes yellow. Pray Maghrib after the sun sets, and Isha until you sleep. Pray Fajr when the stars are still visible, and recite in it two long chapters from the Quran.  

أَنْ صَلِّ الظُّهْرَ إِذَا زَالَتِ الشَّمْسُ وَالْعَصْرَ وَالشَّمْسُ بَيْضَاءُ نَقِيَّةٌ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَدْخُلْهَا صُفْرَةٌ وَالْمَغْرِبَ إِذَا غَرَبَتِ الشَّمْسُ وَالْعِشَاءُ مَا لَمْ تَنَمْ وَصَلِّ الصُّبْحَ وَالنُّجُومُ بَادِيَةٌ وَاقْرَأْ فِيهِ سُورَتَيْنِ طَوِيلَتَيْنِ مِنَ الْمُفَصَّلِ  

[Machine] Abdullah, by whom there is no god but Him, this is the appointed time for this prayer. Then he said, "Establish the prayer from the decline of the sun until the darkness of the night." [Al-Isra 78]. So, this is the decline of the sun.  

عَبْدُ اللهِ هَذَا وَالَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ غَيْرُهُ مِيقَاتُ هَذِهِ الصَّلَاةِ ثُمَّ قَالَ {أَقِمِ الصَّلَاةَ لِدُلُوكِ الشَّمْسِ إِلَى غَسَقِ اللَّيْلِ} [الإسراء 78] فَهَذَا دُلُوكُ الشَّمْسِ
