The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Gabriel ﷺ led me in prayer at the House (i.e. the Ka'bah). He prayed the noon prayer with me when the sun had passed the meridian to the extent of the thong of a sandal; he prayed the afternoon prayer with me when the shadow of everything was as long as itself; he prayed the sunset prayer with me when one who is fasting breaks the fast; he prayed the night prayer with me when the twilight had ended; and he prayed the dawn prayer with me when food and drink become forbidden to one who is keeping the fast. On the following day he prayed the noon prayer with me when his shadow was as long as himself; he prayed the afternoon prayer with me when his shadow was twice as long as himself; he prayed the sunset prayer at the time when one who is fasting breaks the fast; he prayed the night prayer with me when about the third of the night had passed; and he prayed the dawn prayer with me when there was a fair amount of light. Then turning to me he said: Muhammad, this is the time observed by the prophets before you, and the time is anywhere between two times.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَمَّنِي جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ عِنْدَ الْبَيْتِ مَرَّتَيْنِ فَصَلَّى بِيَ الظُّهْرَ حِينَ زَالَتِ الشَّمْسُ وَكَانَتْ قَدْرَ الشِّرَاكِ وَصَلَّى بِيَ الْعَصْرَ حِينَ كَانَ ظِلُّهُ مِثْلَهُ وَصَلَّى بِيَ يَعْنِي الْمَغْرِبَ حِينَ أَفْطَرَ الصَّائِمُ وَصَلَّى بِيَ الْعِشَاءَ حِينَ غَابَ الشَّفَقُ وَصَلَّى بِيَ الْفَجْرَ حِينَ حَرُمَ الطَّعَامُ وَالشَّرَابُ عَلَى الصَّائِمِ فَلَمَّا كَانَ الْغَدُ صَلَّى بِيَ الظُّهْرَ حِينَ كَانَ ظِلُّهُ مِثْلَهُ وَصَلَّى بِيَ الْعَصْرَ حِينَ كَانَ ظِلُّهُ مِثْلَيْهِ وَصَلَّى بِيَ الْمَغْرِبَ حِينَ أَفْطَرَ الصَّائِمُ وَصَلَّى بِيَ الْعِشَاءَ إِلَى ثُلُثِ اللَّيْلِ وَصَلَّى بِيَ الْفَجْرَ فَأَسْفَرَ ثُمَّ الْتَفَتَ إِلَىَّ فَقَالَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ هَذَا وَقْتُ الأَنْبِيَاءِ مِنْ قَبْلِكَ وَالْوَقْتُ مَا بَيْنَ هَذَيْنِ الْوَقْتَيْنِ

the Prophet said: "Jibril (peace be upon him) led me (in Salat) twice at the House. So he prayed Zuhr the first time when the shadow was similar to (the length of) the strap a sandal. Then he prayed Asr when everything was similar (to the length of) its shadow. Then he prayed Maghrib when the sun had set and the fasting person breaks fast. Then he prayed Isha when the twilight had vanished. Then he prayed Fajr when Fajr (dawn) began, and when eating is prohibited for the fasting person. The second time he prayed Zuhr when the shadow of everything was similar to (the length of) it, at the time of Asr the day before. Then he prayed Asr when the shadow of everything was about twice as long as it. Then he prayed Maghrib at the same time as he did the first time. Then he prayed Isha, the later one, when a third of the night had gone. Then he prayed Subh when the land glowed. Then Jibril turned towards me and said: "O Muhammad! These are the times of the Prophets before you, and the (best) time is what is between these two times."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ أَمَّنِي جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ عِنْدَ الْبَيْتِ مَرَّتَيْنِ فَصَلَّى الظُّهْرَ فِي الأُولَى مِنْهُمَا حِينَ كَانَ الْفَىْءُ مِثْلَ الشِّرَاكِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى الْعَصْرَ حِينَ كَانَ كُلُّ شَيْءٍ مِثْلَ ظِلِّهِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى الْمَغْرِبَ حِينَ وَجَبَتِ الشَّمْسُ وَأَفْطَرَ الصَّائِمُ ثُمَّ صَلَّى الْعِشَاءَ حِينَ غَابَ الشَّفَقُ ثُمَّ صَلَّى الْفَجْرَ حِينَ بَرَقَ الْفَجْرُ وَحَرُمَ الطَّعَامُ عَلَى الصَّائِمِ وَصَلَّى الْمَرَّةَ الثَّانِيَةَ الظُّهْرَ حِينَ كَانَ ظِلُّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ مِثْلَهُ لِوَقْتِ الْعَصْرِ بِالأَمْسِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى الْعَصْرَ حِينَ كَانَ ظِلُّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ مِثْلَيْهِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى الْمَغْرِبَ لِوَقْتِهِ الأَوَّلِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى الْعِشَاءَ الآخِرَةَ حِينَ ذَهَبَ ثُلُثُ اللَّيْلِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى الصُّبْحَ حِينَ أَسْفَرَتِ الأَرْضُ ثُمَّ الْتَفَتَ إِلَىَّ جِبْرِيلُ فَقَالَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ هَذَا وَقْتُ الأَنْبِيَاءِ مِنْ قَبْلِكَ وَالْوَقْتُ فِيمَا بَيْنَ هَذَيْنِ الْوَقْتَيْنِ

"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: This is 'Jibril, peace be upon you, he came to teach you your religion. He prayed Subh when the dawn appeared, and he prayed Zuhr when the sun had (passed its zenith), and he prayed 'Asr when he saw that the shadow of a thing was equal to its height, then he prayed Maghrib when the sub had set and it is permissible for the fasting person to eat. Then he prayed 'Isha' when the twilight had disappeared. Then he came to him the following day and prayed Subh when it had got a little lighter, then he prayed Zuhr when the shadow of a thing was equal to its height, then he prayed 'Asr when the shadow of a thing was equal to twice its height, then he prayed Maghrib at the same time as before, then he prayed 'Isha' when a short period of the night had passed. Then he said: 'The prayer is between the times when you prayed yesterday and the times when you prayed today.'"

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ هَذَا جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ جَاءَكُمْ يُعَلِّمُكُمْ دِينَكُمْ فَصَلَّى الصُّبْحَ حِينَ طَلَعَ الْفَجْرُ وَصَلَّى الظُّهْرَ حِينَ زَاغَتِ الشَّمْسُ ثُمَّ صَلَّى الْعَصْرَ حِينَ رَأَى الظِّلَّ مِثْلَهُ ثُمَّ صَلَّى الْمَغْرِبَ حِينَ غَرَبَتِ الشَّمْسُ وَحَلَّ فِطْرُ الصَّائِمِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى الْعِشَاءَ حِينَ ذَهَبَ شَفَقُ اللَّيْلِ ثُمَّ جَاءَهُ الْغَدَ فَصَلَّى بِهِ الصُّبْحَ حِينَ أَسْفَرَ قَلِيلاً ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِهِ الظُّهْرَ حِينَ كَانَ الظِّلُّ مِثْلَهُ ثُمَّ صَلَّى الْعَصْرَ حِينَ كَانَ الظِّلُّ مِثْلَيْهِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى الْمَغْرِبَ بِوَقْتٍ وَاحِدٍ حِينَ غَرَبَتِ الشَّمْسُ وَحَلَّ فِطْرُ الصَّائِمِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى الْعِشَاءَ حِينَ ذَهَبَ سَاعَةٌ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ ثُمَّ قَالَ الصَّلاَةُ مَا بَيْنَ صَلاَتِكَ أَمْسِ وَصَلاَتِكَ الْيَوْمَ

"A man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the times of prayer. He said: 'Pray with me.' So he prayed Zuhr when the sun had passsed its zenith, 'Asr when the shadow of a thing was equal to its height, Maghrib when the sun had set and 'Isha' when the twilight had disappeared." He said: "Then he prayed Zuhr when the shadow of a man was equal in length to his height, 'Asr when the length of a man's shadow was twice his height, and Maghrib just before the twilight disappeared." (One of the narrators) 'Abdullah bin Al-Harith said: "then he said: 'With regard to 'Isha' I think it is up to one-third of the night.'" [1] [1] The speaker there is Thawr, who narrated it from 'Ata' from Jabir.

سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنْ مَوَاقِيتِ الصَّلاَةِ فَقَالَ صَلِّ مَعِي فَصَلَّى الظُّهْرَ حِينَ زَاغَتِ الشَّمْسُ وَالْعَصْرَ حِينَ كَانَ فَىْءُ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ مِثْلَهُ وَالْمَغْرِبَ حِينَ غَابَتِ الشَّمْسُ وَالْعِشَاءَ حِينَ غَابَ الشَّفَقُ قَالَ ثُمَّ صَلَّى الظُّهْرَ حِينَ كَانَ فَىْءُ الإِنْسَانِ مِثْلَهُ وَالْعَصْرَ حِينَ كَانَ فَىْءُ الإِنْسَانِ مِثْلَيْهِ وَالْمَغْرِبَ حِينَ كَانَ قُبَيْلَ غَيْبُوبَةِ الشَّفَقِ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ثُمَّ قَالَ فِي الْعِشَاءِ أُرَى إِلَى ثُلُثِ اللَّيْلِ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَمَّنِي جِبْرِيلُ عِنْدَ الْبَيْتِ فَصَلَّى بِي الظُّهْرَ حِينَ زَالَتِ الشَّمْسُ فَكَانَتْ بِقَدْرِ الشِّرَاكِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِي الْعَصْرَ حِينَ كَانَ ظِلُّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ مِثْلَيْهِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِي الْمَغْرِبَ حِينَ أَفْطَرَ الصَّائِمُ ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِي الْعِشَاءَ حِينَ غَابَ الشَّفَقُ ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِي الْفَجْرَ حِينَ حَرُمَ الطَّعَامُ وَالشَّرَابُ عَلَى الصَّائِمِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى الْغَدَ الظُّهْرَ حِينَ كَانَ ظِلُّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ مِثْلَهُ ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِي الْعَصْرَ حِينَ كان ظِلُّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ مِثْلَيْهِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِي الْمَغْرِبَ حِينَ أَفْطَرَ الصَّائِمُ ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِي الْعِشَاءَ إِلَى ثُلُثِ اللَّيْلِ الْأَوَّلِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِي الْفَجْرَ فَأَسْفَرَ ثُمَّ الْتَفَتَ إِلَيَّ فَقَالَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ هَذَا وَقْتُ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ مِنْ قَبْلِكَ الْوَقْتُ فِيمَا بَيْنَ هَذَيْنِ الْوَقْتَيْنِ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Jibril led me in prayer, so I prayed Dhuhr when the sun had passed its zenith, and I prayed Asr when the shadow of everything was equal to its height, and I prayed Maghrib when the sun had set, and I prayed Isha when the twilight had disappeared, and I prayed Fajr when the dawn had appeared. Then the next day came and I prayed Dhuhr when the sun had passed its zenith and everything had the same length of shadow as before, and I prayed Asr when the shadow was twice as long as the object. Then I prayed Maghrib when the sun had set, and I prayed Isha until the first third of the night had passed. Then I prayed Subh when the sun was about to rise."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَمَّنِي جِبْرِيلُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَصَلَّى الظُّهْرَ حِينَ زَالَتِ الشَّمْسُ وَصَلَّى الْعَصْرَ حِينَ كَانَ الْفَيْءُ قَامَةً وَصَلَّى الْمَغْرِبَ حِينَ غَابَتِ الشَّمْسُ وَصَلَّى الْعِشَاءَ حِينَ غَابَ الشَّفَقُ وَصَلَّى الْفَجْرَ حِينَ طَلَعَ الْفَجْرُ ثُمَّ جَاءَهُ الْغَدُ فَصَلَّى الظُّهْرَ وَفَيْءُ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ مِثْلُهُ وَصَلَّى الْعَصْرَ وَالظِّلُّ قَامَتَانِ وَصَلَّى الْمَغْرِبَ حِينَ غَابَتِ الشَّمْسُ وَصَلَّى الْعِشَاءَ إِلَى ثُلُثِ اللَّيْلِ الْأَوَّلِ وَصَلَّى الصُّبْحَ حِينَ كَادَتِ الشَّمْسُ تَطْلُعُ ثُمَّ قَالَ الصَّلَاةُ فِيمَا بَيْنَ هَذَيْنِ الْوَقْتَيْنِ

[AI] A man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the timing of salah (prayer), so he said, "Pray with me." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed Fajr when dawn appeared, then he prayed Dhuhr when the sun had passed its zenith, then he prayed Asr when the shadow of a person was equal to his height, then he prayed Maghrib when the sun had set, then he prayed Isha when the twilight disappeared, then he prayed Fajr when it became dawn again, then he prayed Dhuhr when the shadow of a person was equal to his height, then he prayed Asr when the shadow of a person was twice his height, then he prayed Maghrib before the twilight disappeared, then he prayed Isha. Some of them said, "One-third of the night" and some of them said, "Half of it."

سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَنْ وَقْتِالصَّلَاةِ فَقَالَ صَلِّ مَعِي فَصَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الصُّبْحَ حِينَ طَلَعَ الْفَجْرُ ثُمَّ صَلَّى الظُّهْرَ حِينَ زَاغَتِ الشَّمْسُ ثُمَّ صَلَّى الْعَصْرَ حِينَ كَانَ فَيْءُ الْإِنْسَانِ مِثْلَهُ ثُمَّ صَلَّى الْمَغْرِبَ حِينَ وَجَبَتِ الشَّمْسُ ثُمَّ صَلَّى الْعِشَاءَ حِينَ غَيْبُوبَةِ الشَّفَقِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى الصُّبْحَ فَأَسْفَرَ ثُمَّ صَلَّى الظُّهْرَ حِينَ كَانَ فَيْءُ الْإِنْسَانِ مِثْلَهُ ثُمَّ صَلَّى الْعَصْرَ حِينَ كَانَ فَيْءُ الْإِنْسَانِ مِثْلَيْهِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى الْمَغْرِبَ قَبْلَ غَيْبُوبَةِ الشَّفَقِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى الْعِشَاءَ فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ ثُلُثَ اللَّيْلِ وَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ شَطْرَهُ

[AI] "Or did the prophet Gabriel ﷺ come to the Prophet ﷺ twice at the house, so he prayed the noon prayer when the sun had declined and it was the length of a sandal strap, then he prayed the afternoon prayer when the shadow of everything was in proportion to it, then he prayed the sunset prayer when the fasting person broke their fast, then he prayed the night prayer when the twilight disappeared, then he prayed the dawn prayer when eating and drinking became prohibited for the one fasting, then he prayed the noon prayer the next day when the shadow of everything was in proportion to it, like the time of the afternoon prayer the previous day, then he prayed the afternoon prayer when the shadow of everything was equal to it, then he prayed the sunset prayer when the fasting person broke their fast, then he prayed the night prayer for one-third of the first part of the night, then he prayed the dawn prayer when it became light, then he said, 'O Muhammad, this is the time of the prophets before you, and the time between these two times.' As for the statement of Abdul Aziz ibn Muhammad..."

أَمَّ جِبْرِيلُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عِنْدَ الْبَيْتِ مَرَّتَيْنِ فَصَلَّى بِهِ الظُّهْرَ حِينَ زَالَتِ الشَّمْسُ وَكَانَتْ قَدْرَ الشِّرَاكِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِهِ الْعَصْرَ حِينَ كَانَ ظِلُّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ بِقَدْرِهِ وَصَلَّى بِهِ الْمَغْرِبَ حِينَ أَفْطَرَ الصَّائِمُ ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِهِ الْعِشَاءَ حِينَ غَابَ الشَّفَقُ ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِهِ الْفَجْرَ حِينَ حَرُمَ الطَّعَامُ وَالشَّرَابُ عَلَى الصَّائِمِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِهِ الظُّهْرَ مِنَ الْغَدِ حِينَ كَانَ ظِلُّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ بِقَدْرِهِ كَوَقْتِ الْعَصْرِ بِالْأَمْسِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِهِ الْعَصْرَ حِينَ كَانَ ظِلُّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ مِثْلَيْهِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِهِ الْمَغْرِبَ حِينَ أَفْطَرَ الصَّائِمُ ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِهِ الْعِشَاءَ لَثُلُثِ اللَّيْلِ الْأَوَّلِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِهِ الْفَجْرَ حِينَ أَسْفَرَ ثُمَّ قَالَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ هَذَا وَقْتُ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ مِنْ قَبْلِكَ وَالْوَقْتُ مَا بَيْنَ هَذَيْنِ الْوَقْتَيْنِ «» وَأَمَّا حَدِيثُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ

أَنَّ رَجُلا سَأَلَ النَّبِيّ ﷺ عَنْ مَوَاقِيتِ الصَّلاةِ فَصَلَّى الظُّهْرَ حِينَ زَالَتِ الشَّمْسُ وَصَلَّى الْعَصْرَ حِينَ صَارَ ظِلُّ كُلٍّ شَيْءٍ مِثْلَهُ وَصَلَّى الْمَغْرِبَ حِينَ غَرَبَتِ الشَّمْسُ وَصَلَّى الْعِشَاءُ حِينَ غَابَ الشَّفَقُ وَصَلَّى الْفَجْرَ حِينَ طَلَعَ الْفَجْرُ وَصَلَّى الظُّهْرَ حَيْثُ صَارَ ظِلُّ كُلٍّ شَيْءٍ مِثْلَهُ وَالْعَصْرَ حِينَ صَارَ ظِلُّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ مِثْلَيْهِ وَالْمَغْرِبَ حِينَ غَابَتِ الشَّمْسُ لِوَقْتِهَا بِالأَمْسِ وَالْعِشَاءَ بَعْدَ مَا أَعْتَمَ وَصَلَّى الْفَجْرَ حِينَ أَسْفَرَ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَيْنَ السَّائِلُ عَنْ مَوَاقِيتِ الصَّلاةِ مَا بَيْنَ هَذَيْنِ وقت

[AI] He heard Abu Sa'eed Al-Khudri say that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Jibril prayed the Dhuhr prayer when the sun declined, and he prayed the Asr prayer when it became straight. He prayed the Maghrib prayer when the sun set, and he prayed the Isha prayer when the twilight disappeared. He prayed the Fajr prayer when dawn broke. Then he prayed on the second day: he prayed the Dhuhr prayer, and everything had its equivalent. He prayed the Asr prayer, and everything had its equivalent. He prayed the Maghrib prayer when an hour had passed from sunset, and he prayed the Isha prayer until the first third of the night. He prayed the Fajr prayer when the sun was about to rise." Then he said, "Prayer is between these two times."

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيَّ ؓ يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَمَّنِي جِبْرِيلُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَصَلَّى الظُّهْرَ حِينَ زَاغَتِ الشَّمْسُ وَصَلَّى الْعَصْرَ حِينَ كَانَتْ قَامَةً وَصَلَّى الْمَغْرِبَ حِينَ غَرَبَتِ الشَّمْسُ وَصَلَّى الْعِشَاءَ حِينَ غَابَ الشَّفَقُ وَصَلَّى الصُّبْحَ حِينَ طَلَعَ الْفَجْرُ ثُمَّ أَمَّنِي فِي الْيَوْمِ الثَّانِي فَصَلَّى الظُّهْرَ وَفَيْءُ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ مِثْلُهُ وَصَلَّى الْعَصْرَ وَالْفَيْءُ قَامَتَانِ وَصَلَّى الْمَغْرِبَ سَاعَةَ غَابَتِ الشَّمْسُ وَصَلَّى الْعِشَاءَ إِلَى ثُلُثِ اللَّيْلِ الْأَوَّلِ وَصَلَّى الصُّبْحَ حِينَ كَادَتِ الشَّمْسُ تَطْلُعُ» ثُمَّ قَالَ «الصَّلَاةُ فِيمَا بَيْنَ هَذَيْنِ الْوَقْتَيْنِ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Jibril ﷺ came to me at the house twice and prayed Dhuhr with me when the sun had passed its zenith, then he prayed Asr with me when the shadow of everything was the same length as its size, then he prayed Maghrib with me when the fasting person had broken his fast, then he prayed Isha with me when twilight had disappeared, then he prayed Fajr with me when food and drink had become forbidden for the fasting person, then he prayed Dhuhr with me on the next day when the shadow of everything was the same length as its size, then he prayed Asr with me when everything had a shadow the same as its size, then he prayed Maghrib with me when the fasting person had broken his fast at the same time, then he prayed Isha with me when the first third of the night had ended, then he prayed Fajr with me." Abu Nuaim said, "I do not know what he said about Fajr." Then he turned to me and said, "O Muhammad, this is the time of the Prophets before you, the time between these two times."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَمَّنِي جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ عِنْدَ الْبَيْتِ مَرَّتَيْنِ فَصَلَّى بِيَ الظُّهْرَ حِينَ زَالَتِ الشَّمْسُ عَلَى مِثَالِ قَدْرِ الشِّرَاكِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِيَ الْعَصْرَ حِينَ صَارَ ظِلُّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدْرَ ظِلِّهِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِيَ الْمَغْرِبَ حِينَ أَفْطَرَ الصَّائِمُ ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِيَ الْعِشَاءَ حِينَ غَابَ الشَّفَقُ ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِيَ الْفَجْرَ حِينَ حُرِّمَ الطَّعَامُ وَالشَّرَابُ عَلَى الصَّائِمِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِيَ الظُّهْرَ مِنَ الْغَدِ حِينَ كَانَ كُلُّ شَيْءٍ قَدْرَ ظِلِّهِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِيَ الْعَصْرَ حِينَ كَانَ كُلُّ شَيْءٍ مِثْلَيْ ظِلِّهِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِيَ الْمَغْرِبَ حِينَ أَفْطَرَ الصَّائِمُ لِوَقْتٍ وَاحِدٍ ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِيَ الْعِشَاءَ حِينَ ذَهَبَ ثُلُثُ اللَّيْلِ الْأَوَّلُ ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِيَ الْفَجْرَ» قَالَ أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ لَا أَدْرِي أَيَّ شَيْءٍ قَالَ فِي الْفَجْرِ ثُمَّ قَالَ الْتَفَتَ إِلَيَّ فَقَالَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ هَذَا وَقْتُ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ مِنْ قَبْلِكَ الْوَقْتُ فِيمَا بَيْنَ هَذَيْنِ الْوَقْتَيْنِ

"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: This is 'Jibril, peace be upon you, he came to teach you your religion. He prayed Subh when the dawn appeared, and he prayed Zuhr when the sun had (passed its zenith), and he prayed 'Asr when he saw that the shadow of a thing was equal to its height, then he prayed Maghrib when the sub had set and it is permissible for the fasting person to eat. Then he prayed 'Isha' when the twilight had disappeared. Then he came to him the following day and prayed Subh when it had got a little lighter, then he prayed Zuhr when the shadow of a thing was equal to its height, then he prayed 'Asr when the shadow of a thing was equal to twice its height, then he prayed Maghrib at the same time as before, then he prayed 'Isha' when a short period of the night had passed. Then he said: 'The prayer is between the times when you prayed yesterday and the times when you prayed today.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 502)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ هَذَا جِبْرِيلُ جَاءَكُمْ لَيُعَلِّمَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ فَصَلَّى الصُّبْحَ حِينَ طَلَعَ الْفَجْرُ وَصَلَّى الظُّهْرَ حِينَ زَاغَتِ الشَّمْسُ ثُمَّ صَلَّى الْعَصْرَ حِينَ رَأَى الظِّلَّ مِثْلَهُ ثُمَّ صَلَّى الْمَغْرِبَ حِينَ غَرَبَتِ الشَّمْسُ وَحَلَّ فِطْرُ الصَّائِمِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى الْعِشَاءَ حِينَ ذَهَبَ شَفَقُ اللَّيْلِ ثُمَّ جَاءَهُ الْغَدَ فَصَلَّى لَهُ الصُّبْحَ حِينَ أَسْفَرَ قَلِيلًا ثُمَّ صَلَّى الظُّهْرَ حِينَ كَانَ الظِّلُّ مِثْلَهُ ثُمَّ صَلَّى الْعَصْرَ حِينَ كَانَ الظِّلُّ مِثْلَيْهِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى الْمَغْرِبَ بِوَقْتٍ وَاحِدٍ حِينَ غَرَبَتِ الشَّمْسُ وَحَلَّ فِطْرُ الصَّائِمِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى الْعِشَاءَ حِينَ ذَهَبَ سَاعَةٌ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ ثُمَّ قَالَ الصَّلَاةُ مَا بَيْنَ صَلَاتِكَ أَمْسِ وَصَلَاتِكَ الْيَوْمَ

"A man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the times of prayer. He said: 'Pray with me.' So he prayed Zuhr when the sun had passsed its zenith, 'Asr when the shadow of a thing was equal to its height, Maghrib when the sun had set and 'Isha' when the twilight had disappeared." He said: "Then he prayed Zuhr when the shadow of a man was equal in length to his height, 'Asr when the length of a man's shadow was twice his height, and Maghrib just before the twilight disappeared." (One of the narrators) 'Abdullah bin Al-Harith said: "then he said: 'With regard to 'Isha' I think it is up to one-third of the night.'" سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَنْ مَوَاقِيتِ الصَّلَاةِ فَقَالَ «صَلِّ مَعِي» فَصَلَّى الظُّهْرَ حِينَ زَاغَتِ الشَّمْسُ وَالْعَصْرَ حِينَ كَانَ فَيْءُ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ مِثْلَهُ وَالْمَغْرِبَ حِينَ غَابَتِ الشَّمْسُ وَالْعِشَاءَ حِينَ غَابَ الشَّفَقُ قَالَ «ثُمَّ صَلَّى الظُّهْرَ حِينَ كَانَ فَيْءُ الْإِنْسَانِ مِثْلَهُ وَالْعَصْرَ حِينَ كان فَيْءُ الْإِنْسَانِ مِثْلَيْهِ وَالْمَغْرِبَ حِينَ كَانَ قَبْلَ غَيْبُوبَةِ الشَّفَقِ» قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ قَالَ فِي الْعِشَاءِ أَرَى إِلَى ثُلُثِ اللَّيْلِ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Gabriel ﷺ led me in prayer at the House (i.e. the Ka'bah). He prayed the noon prayer with me when the sun had passed the meridian to the extent of the thong of a sandal; he prayed the afternoon prayer with me when the shadow of everything was as long as itself; he prayed the sunset prayer with me when one who is fasting breaks the fast; he prayed the night prayer with me when the twilight had ended; and he prayed the dawn prayer with me when food and drink become forbidden to one who is keeping the fast. On the following day he prayed the noon prayer with me when his shadow was as long as himself; he prayed the afternoon prayer with me when his shadow was twice as long as himself; he prayed the sunset prayer at the time when one who is fasting breaks the fast; he prayed the night prayer with me when about the third of the night had passed; and he prayed the dawn prayer with me when there was a fair amount of light. Then turning to me he said: Muhammad, this is the time observed by the prophets before you, and the time is anywhere between two times. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 393)

"أَمَّنِي جبريلُ عِنْدَ البيتِ مَرَّتَين؛ فَصَلَّى بي الظُّهْرَ حيثُ زَالت الشَّمسُ، وكانت قدرَ الشِّراكِ، وصلَّى بي العَصْرَ حين كان ظلُّهُ مِثْلَه، وصلَّى بي المغربَ حين أَفْطَرَ الصَّائِمُ، وصلَّى بي العِشَاءَ حين غابَ الشَّفَقُ، وصلَّى بي الفجْرَ حين حَرُمَ الطَّعَامُ والشرابُ على الصائِم؛ فلما كان الغدُ صلى الظُّهرَ حين كان ظِلُّه مِثْلَه، وصلَّى بي العصرَ حين كان ظِلُّهُ مِثْلَيهِ، وصلَّى بي المغربَ حين أَفطرَ الصَّائِمُ، وصلَّى بي العِشَاءَ إِلى ثُلُثِ الليل، وصلَّى بِي الفَجْرَ فأَسْفَر. ثُمَّ التفتَ إِليَّ جِبْرِيلُ وقال: يا مُحَمَّد: هذَا وَقْتُ الأَنْبياءِ مِنْ قَبْلِكَ - والوقْتُ ما بين هَذَينِ الْوَقْتَينِ".

" صَلَّى رَسُولُ الله ﷺ الظُّهْرَ حِينَ كَانَ الظِّل مِثْلَ الشِّرَاكِ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِنَا الْعَصْرَ حِينَ كَانَ الظِّلُّ مِثْلَهُ وَمِثْلَ الشِّرَاكِ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى بنَا الْمَغْرِبَ حينَ غَابَتِ الشَّمْسُ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى بنَا العشَاءَ حِينَ غَابَ الشَّفَقُ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِنَا الْفَجْرَ حِينَ طَلَعَ الْقَمَرُ (*)، ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِنَا مِن الْغَدِ الظُّهْرَ حِينَ كَانَ ظِل كُلِّ شَىْءٍ مِثلَهُ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِنَا الْعَصْرَ حِينَ كَانَ ظِلُّ كُلِّ شِىْءٍ مِثْلَيهِ قدر مَا يَسِيرُ الراكبُ إِلَى ذى الحليفة الْعِتْق، ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِنَا الْمَغْرِبَ حِينَ غَابَتِ الشَّمْسُ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِنَا الْعِشَاءَ حِينَ ذَهَبَ ثُلُثَا اللَّيلِ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِنَا الْفَجْرَ فَأَسْفَرَ ".
