3.157 [Machine] Recitation of Seeking Refuge and the Secrets Involved

٣۔١٥٧ بَابُ الْجَهْرِ بِالتَّعَوُّذِ وَالْإِسْرَارِ بِهِ

bayhaqi:2359Abū Zakariyyā b. Abū Isḥāq And ʾAbū Bakr b. al-Ḥasan Waʾabū Saʿīd b. Abū ʿAmr > Abū al-ʿAbbās Muḥammad b. Yaʿqūb > al-Aṣam > al-Rabīʿ b. Sulaymān > al-Shāfiʿī > Ibrāhīm b. Muḥammad > Rabīʿah b. ʿUthmān > Ṣāliḥ b. Abū Ṣāliḥ from my father

[Machine] Hurayrah, while leading the people in prayer, would raise his voice and say, "Our Lord, we seek refuge in You from the accursed Satan." Abu Sa'eed added in his narration: "Al-Shafi'i, may Allah have mercy on him, said that Ibn 'Umar used to seek refuge in himself, and whichever one of them a person did, it would suffice. Some of them used to seek refuge when starting the recitation before 'Umm al-Qur'an (i.e., Al-Fatiha). And that is what I say." The Shaykh, may Allah have mercy on him, said: "The narrations concerning this topic before this one indicate that seeking refuge is done before recitation." Al-Shafi'i, may Allah have mercy on him, also said that it is to be said in the first raka'ah. The Shaykh, may Allah have mercy on him, said: "Al-Hasan, 'Ata', and Ibrahim al-Nakha'i said that he said it before 'Umm al-Qur'an in every raka'ah, so it is good." The Shaykh, may Allah have mercy on him, also said: "It is narrated from Ibn Sirin that he used to seek refuge in every raka'ah."
