3. Ṣalāh (Ritual Prayer)

٣۔ كِتَابُ الصَّلَاةِ

3.7 [Machine] The last time of Dhuhr and the first time of Asr.

٣۔٧ بَابُ آخِرِ وَقْتِ الظُّهْرِ وَأَوَّلِ وَقْتِ الْعَصْرِ

bayhaqi:1709Abū al-Ḥasan Muḥammad b. al-Ḥusayn b. Dāwud al-ʿAlawī > Abū Ḥāmid Aḥmad b. Muḥammad b. al-Ḥasan al-Ḥāfiẓ Imlāʾ > Muḥammad b. Ismāʿīl al-Bukhārī > Ayyūb b. Sulaymān b. Bilāl > Abū Bakr b. Abū Ūways > Sulaymān b. Bilāl > Ṣāliḥ b. Kaysān > Abū Bakr b. Ḥazm Balaghah > Abū Masʿūd

[Machine] Gabriel ﷺ came down to the Prophet ﷺ in order to teach him the prayer. Therefore, he prayed the afternoon prayer when the sun had passed its zenith, then he prayed the afternoon prayer when the shadow of everything was equal to its size once, then he prayed the sunset prayer when the sun had set, then he prayed the darkness prayer which is the night prayer when the twilight disappeared, and then he prayed the morning prayer when dawn arrived. Then, he came to him the next day and delayed the afternoon prayer until its shadow was equal to its size, and delayed the afternoon prayer until its shadow was equal to its size twice, then he prayed the sunset prayer when the sun had set, then he waited for the night prayer, then he prayed the morning prayer when dawn arrived. Then, he said, "Between these two prayers, there is a prayer." Salih ibn Kaysan said, and Ata ibn Abi Rabah used to narrate from Jabir ibn Abdullah about the time of prayer similar to what Abu Mas'ood used to narrate. Salih said, and Amr ibn Dinar and Abu Zubair al-Makki used to narrate the same from Jabir ibn Abdullah al-Sulami.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Gabriel came to me at the house twice and prayed Dhuhr when the sun had passed its zenith and it was as long as a spear. He then prayed Asr when the shadow of everything was equal to it." In the narration, he mentioned, "Then he prayed Fajr when the shadow of everything was like it. Then he prayed Dhuhr when the shadow of everything was like it. Then he prayed Asr when the shadow of everything was like it. In the end, he turned to me and said, 'O Muhammad, this is the time of the Prophets before you. And the time between these two times.' Al-Shafi'i claimed that the first time of Asr begins after the end of Dhuhr, and the statement of Ibn Abbas regarding the Prophet's ﷺ prayer of Asr when the shadow of everything was like it means when the shadow of everything reaches its limit. He said, 'I also heard from some of the companions of Ibn Abbas the meaning of what I described, and I believe he mentioned it from Ibn Abbas, who said, 'The Sheikh seems to have intended."

[Machine] The time for the Dhuhr prayer starts when the sun declines and lasts until the Asr prayer, meaning any time you pray within that period. And it is confirmed in the established Sunnah, meaning what Imam Shafi'i may Allah have mercy upon him described.

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said: "The time for Dhuhr prayer is when the sun has passed its zenith and the shadow of a man is the same as his height, as long as Asr prayer has not started. The time for Asr prayer is as long as the sun has not turned yellow, and the time for Maghrib prayer is as long as twilight has not disappeared. Shu'bah said: 'As long as the redness of twilight has not disappeared.' The time for Isha prayer is from the time between you and midnight, and the time for Fajr prayer is when dawn breaks and the sun has not risen." Abu Dawood said: "Shu'bah said: 'Sometimes he raises his hands and sometimes he does not raise them.'"

[Machine] A person came to the Prophet ﷺ and asked him about the timings of prayer, but he did not respond to him. Then he instructed Bilal to call for prayer when the dawn broke, so he prayed. Then he instructed him again to call for prayer when the sun was at its zenith, so he prayed the Dhuhr prayer. And the person said, "The sun has either set or it has not yet set." The Prophet ﷺ was more knowledgeable than them. Then he instructed Bilal again to call for prayer when the sun was high, so he prayed the Asr prayer. And the sun was still high. Then he instructed him once again to call for prayer when the sun had set, so he prayed the Maghrib prayer. Then he instructed him again to call for prayer when the darkness of the twilight had disappeared, so he prayed the Isha prayer. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then he prayed the Fajr prayer the next morning, and the person said, 'The sun has either risen or it has not yet risen.' The Prophet ﷺ was more knowledgeable than them. He prayed Dhuhr prayer quickly, close to the time of Asr prayer the previous day, and then he prayed the Asr prayer. And the person said, 'The sun has turned red.' And he prayed the Maghrib prayer before the disappearance of twilight. And he prayed the Isha prayer in the first third of the night. Then he said, 'Where is the person who asked about the timings? There is a time between these two timings.'"
