[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "When one of you prays, let him wear his izār (lower garment) and wrap himself with it." And Abu al-Hasan ibn 'Abdan informed us, Ahmad ibn 'Ubayd al-Saffār narrated to us, Ibn Abi Qumash narrated to us, Mu'thanna ibn Mu'ādh narrated to us, and my father (Shu'bah) narrated to us about Shu'bah, and he mentioned him in its meaning with its chain of narration.  

النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَأْتَزِرْ وَلْيَرْتَدِ 3270 وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ بْنُ عَبْدَانَ أنبأ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ الصَّفَّارُ ثنا ابْنُ أَبِي قُمَاشٍ ثنا مُثَنَّى بْنُ مُعَاذٍ ثنا أَبِي عَنْ شُعْبَةَ فَذَكَرَهُ بِمَعْنَاهُ بِإِسْنَادِهِ  

[Machine] It was narrated from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that he said, "When one of you prays, let him wear his two garments, for Allah ﷻ is more deserving of being adorned for him. If he does not have two garments, then let him wrap himself in a garment while praying, and none of you should cover himself in the way the Jews do in their prayers."  

أَنَّهُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَلْبَسْ ثَوْبَيْهِ فَإِنَّ اللهَ ﷻ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُزَيَّنَ لَهُ فَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ ثَوْبَانِ فَلْيَأْتَزِرْ إِذَا صَلَّى وَلَا يَشْتَمِلْ أَحَدُكُمْ فِي صَلَاتِهِ اشْتِمَالَ الْيَهُودِ  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When one of you prays in a garment, let him make it tight around his waist and not cover himself like the Jews."  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ فِي ثَوْبٍ فَلْيَشُدَّهُ عَلَى حَقْوِهِ وَلَا تَشْتَمِلُوا كَاشْتِمَالِ الْيَهُودِ  

[Machine] "Have you ever thought, if I were to send you to some of the people of the city, would you go in just one garment? I said, no. He (the speaker) said, then is it not more fitting for Allah to beautify Himself than the people? Then he said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ or Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, whoever has two garments, let him pray in them, and whoever has only one garment, let him wrap himself with it and not include the dressing of the Jews. Abu al-Hasan reported to us, who narrated from al-Hasan, who narrated from Yusuf, who narrated from Abu al-Rabi', who narrated from Hammad ibn Zaid, who narrated from Ayub, who narrated from Nafi', who said, I stayed with him (Abu Huraira) in the (caravan) fodder, and he mentioned the Hadith and said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ or Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, let one of you pray in two garments, and if he finds only one garment, let him wrap himself with it and not include the dressing of the Jews. And it was narrated by Layth ibn Saad from Nafi' in the same way with doubt."  

أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ بَعَثْتُكَ إِلَى بَعْضِ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ أَكُنْتَ تَذْهَبُ فِي ثَوْبٍ وَاحِدٍ؟ قُلْتُ لَا قَالَ فَاللهُ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُتَجَمَّلَ لَهُ أَمِ النَّاسُ؟ ثُمَّ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَوْ قَالَ عُمَرُ مَنْ كَانَ لَهُ ثَوْبَانِ فَلْيُصَلِّ فِيهِمَا وَمَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ إِلَّا ثَوْبٌ وَاحِدٌ فَلْيَتَّزِرْ بِهِ وَلَا يَشْتَمِلْ كَاشْتِمَالِ الْيَهُودِ 3274 وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ أنبأ الْحَسَنُ ثنا يُوسُفُ ثنا أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ثنا أَيُّوبُ عَنْ نَافِعٍ قَالَ احْتَبَسْتُ لَهُ فِي عَلَفِ الرِّكَابِ وَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ فَقَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَوْ قَالَ قَالَ عُمَرُ وَأَكْثَرُ ظَنِّي أَنَّهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لِيُصَلِّ أَحَدُكُمْ فِي ثَوْبَيْنِ فَإِنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ إِلَّا ثَوْبًا وَاحِدًا فَلْيَتَّزِرْ بِهِ وَلَا يَشْتَمِلْ اشْتِمَالَ الْيَهُودِ وَرَوَاهُ اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ عَنْ نَافِعٍ هَكَذَا بِالشَّكِّ  

A man stood up and asked the Prophet ﷺ about praying in a single garment. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Has every one of you two garments?" A man put a similar question to ʿUmar on which he replied, "When Allah makes you wealthier then you should clothe yourself properly during prayers. Otherwise one can pray with an Izar and a Rida' (a sheet covering the upper part of the body.) Izar and a shirt, Izar and a Qaba', trousers and a Rida, trousers and a shirt or trousers and a Qaba', Tubban and a Qaba' or Tubban and a shirt." (The narrator added, "I think that he also said a Tubban and a Rida. ") (Using translation from Bukhārī 365)   

قَامَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَسَأَلَهُ عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ فِي الثَّوْبِ الْوَاحِدِ فَقَالَ أَوَ كُلُّكُمْ يَجِدُ ثَوْبَيْنِ ثُمَّ قَامَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى عُمَرَ فَسَأَلَهُ عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ فِي الثَّوْبِ الْوَاحِدِ فَقَالَ إِذَا وَسَّعَ اللهُ فَأَوْسِعُوا جَمَعَ رَجُلٌ عَلَيْهِ ثِيَابَهُ صَلَّى رَجُلٌ فِي إِزَارٍ وَرِدَاءٍ فِي إِزَارٍ وَقَمِيصٍ فِي إِزَارٍ وَقَبَاءٍ فِي سَرَاوِيلَ وَرِدَاءٍ فِي سَرَاوِيلَ وَقَمِيصٍ فِي سَرَاوِيلَ وَقَبَاءٍ فِي تُبَّانٍ وَقَبَاءٍ فِي تُبَّانٍ وَقَمِيصٍ وَأَحْسِبُهُ قَالَ فِي تُبَّانٍ وَرِدَاءٍ  

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited us to pray in a sheet of cloth without crossing both its ends, and he also prohibited us to pray in a wrapper without putting on a sheet. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 636)   

نَهَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ الرَّجُلُ فِي لِحَافٍ لَا يَتَوَشَّحُ بِهِ وَنَهَى أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ الرَّجُلُ فِي سَرَاوِيلَ وَلَيْسَ عَلَيْهِ رِدَاءٌ
