3. Ṣalāh (Ritual Prayer)

٣۔ كِتَابُ الصَّلَاةِ

3.503 [Machine] Whoever prays and has filth or impurity on their garment or footwear that they were not aware of, then they become aware of it.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed in his sandals, and the people prayed in their sandals. Then he removed his sandals and the people removed their sandals while they were still in prayer. When he finished his prayer, he asked, "What made you throw your sandals in prayer?" They replied, "O Messenger of Allah, we saw you do so, so we did the same." He said, "Indeed, Jibril (Gabriel), ﷺ , informed me that there was impurity in them. So, when any one of you enters the mosque, let him look at his sandals. If he sees any impurity on them, then he should remove them. If not, then let him pray in them."

[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed and took off his sandals, so the people also took off their sandals. He said, "Why did you take off your sandals?" They replied, "O Messenger of Allah, we saw you take off yours, so we took off ours." He said, "Indeed, Jibril came to me and informed me that they had impurities in them. So when one of you enters the mosque, let him reverse his sandals and look into them for impurities. If he finds any impurities, let him wipe them off on the ground, then let him pray in them." This Hadith is known through the route of Hammam ibn Salamah from Abu Na'amah Abdur-Rabbih as-Sa'di from Abu Nadrah. It has also been narrated from al-Hajjaj ibn al-Hajjaj from Abu Amir al-Khazzaz from Abu Na'amah, but it is not a strong narration. It has also been narrated from another route, but it is not preserved, from Ayyub as-Sakhtiyani from Abu Nadrah.

It was said to him, so he said, "Indeed, Jibreel came to me and informed me that there was impurity in them. So when you come to the mosque, look at your sandals. Reported by Ishaq al-Hanzali from Abdur-Razzaq from Ma'mar from Ayyub from a man who narrated from Abu Sa'eed al-Khudri, and he said, "Impurity" and did not say "filthiness".

[Machine] The sheikh and Al-Shafi'i mentioned the hadith of Abu Sa'eed and Ibn Umar in their old opinions, then they retracted in their new opinions and said that repeating the prayer is recommended. Al-Hasan Al-Basri and Abu Qilabah also had similar opinions. Al-Shafi'i, on the other hand, moved away from the hadith of Abu Sa'eed due to the preference of Hammad ibn Salamah's narration from Abu Na'amah Al-Sa'di from Abu Nadrah. Each one of them differed in their reliability, and this is why Al-Bukhari did not use any of them as evidence in his Sahih, nor did Muslim mention them in his book except in other narrations. It is possible that Al-Bukhari moved away from it because he considered it an indication of the initiation of a new legislation or the burden mentioned in it, which is disliked in matters of purity. Allah knows best. This hadith was narrated from Bakr ibn Abdullah Al-Muzani from the Prophet ﷺ through a mursal chain, and it was also narrated from Ibn Mas'ud, Ibn Abbas, and Abu Hurairah through a musalsal chain, except for the hadith of Ibn Mas'ud, which is only...

They replied, "You took off your shoes, so we took off ours." He said, "Verily, Jibril (Gabriel), ﷺ , informed me that there is impurity in them (the shoes) due to the words of Ibrahim ibn al-Hajjaj, which Abdullah ibn al-Muthanna claimed as his own. Allah knows best. As for what Ibn Umar used to do regarding building during prayer, as well as sneezing and nosebleeds, we have narrated from Miswar ibn Makhramah that he used to say that it is recommended (mustahabb), which is based on analogy (qiyaas) to ablution in this matter. And with Allah is the success.
