Mawsuat al-Tafsir al-Mathur (The Encyclopedia of Transmitted Exegesis) is a modern multi-volume scholarly compilation produced by al-Maahad al-Imam al-Shatibi (the Imam al-Shatibi Institute), a Saudi Arabia-based Quranic sciences research institution. Its objective is to compile the most comprehensive modern reference work in the transmitted tafsir tradition, systematically gathering all available narrations (athar) on the interpretation of every Quranic verse from all accessible classical sources and organizing them for scholarly use. The manhaj is modern encyclopedic compilation: a research team collected, organized, and attributed transmitted narrations from the classical tafsir corpus, producing a resource that goes beyond any single classical work in its comprehensiveness of scope.
