27. Book of the Companions (25/53)
[Machine] As for the two sheikhs, they did not mention anything beyond the virtues. We have started in the first mention of the companion by discussing his lineage and death, then we mentioned what is valid about their conditions from their virtues that they did not mention. So I did not forget to mention Muhammad ibn Umar al-Waqidi and his peers in knowledge.
[Machine] "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Talhah has become obligated.'"
[Machine] That Talhah slaughtered a sheep and dug a well on the day of Qarad, then fed and gave them water. The Prophet peace be upon him then said, "O Talhah Al-Fayyadh." Talhah was named Al-Fayyadh, a narration with a sound chain of transmission, but it was not mentioned in his collection.
[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ named me on the day of Uhud as Talhah al-Khair, and in the Battle of al-Ashira as Talhah al-Fayyad, and on the day of Hunayn as Talhah al-Jawwad." Adh-Dhahabi did not mention this in his summary.
27.131 [Machine] The mention of the merits of Muhammad ibn Talha ibn Ubaidullah al-Sajjad.
[Machine] Muhammad ibn Talhah was one of the ascetic individuals who exerted great effort in worship. The companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would seek his blessings and supplications. He was the first person to be given the title of "As-Sajjad" (the one who frequently prostrates). Abu Abdullah Al-Asbahani narrated this information, testifying to its authenticity, as I mentioned before.
[Machine] When Muhammad ibn Talhah was born, the Prophet ﷺ came to us and said, "What have you named him?" We replied, "Muhammad." He said, "This is my name, and his nickname is Abu Al-Qasim."
[Machine] I heard Mus'ab Al-Zubayri saying that Muhammad ibn Talha ibn Ubaid Allah, his mother is Hamna bint Jahsh.
[Machine] "We surely belong to Allah and to Him we shall return. The offspring of Quraysh, by Allah." His father said to him, "What is it, O my son?" He replied, "Muhammad ibn Talhah." His father then said, "We surely belong to Allah and to Him we shall return. If what I have known is true, it is the loss of a righteous young man." Then he sat down, saddened and grieving.
[Machine] "And he said, 'Whoever sees the man with the black robe, do not kill him, meaning Muhammad.' So Muhammad said to Aisha that day, 'O mother, what do you command me?' She said, 'I think it is best for you, O son of Adam, to withhold your hand.' So he withheld his hand, and a man from the Banu Asad ibn Khuzaymah named Talhah ibn Mudlij from the Banu Munqidh ibn Tarif killed him. Some say Shaddad ibn Mu'awiya al-Abasi killed him, and others say it was Isam ibn Mis'ar al-Basri. There is much discussion about this, and it is the one who says in his killing [Al-Bahr Al-Tawil] and 'Ashath Qawwamin with the verses of his Lord are few in harms that people see as a Muslim. I aimed the spear at his back under his cloak, and he fell to the ground, lifeless, with both hands and mouth. I touched him with my teeth, and his shirt resisted me from the back of his stained clothes. You stood solidly against him in the rush of horses, an animal like a she-camel. I remember Hamma when I stabbed him, so why don't you recite Hamma before advancing against a non-follower, a sin other than that, except that he does not follow Ali, and one who does not follow the truth is unjust.' Then Ali said when he saw him lifeless, 'This blow was made by his head.'"
[Machine] Abu Bakr As-Siddiq, I was the first to respond to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , along with Talha ibn Ubayd Allah. When the cold became intense and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was the most affected by it, he said to us, "Take care of your companion" referring to him. So we left him and approached him, and there was a napkin hanging from his cheek, and between it and the eastern direction was a man. I was the closest to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . It was Abu Ubaydah ibn al-Jarrah. I went to remove the napkin, but Abu Ubaydah said, "I swear to you by Allah, O Abu Bakr, don't abandon me." So I left it and he pulled it off. Then I went to remove the other ring, but Abu Ubaydah said to me the same thing, so he removed the other ring and the other napkin. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, your companion has attracted the attention or the demand of Talha." It is a sound saying according to the condition of Muslim, and they did not expel him, no, by Allah.

[Machine] "I entered upon the Mother of the Believers, Aisha bint Talha, while she was saying to her mother Asma, 'I am better than you, and my father is better than your father.' So her mother started scolding her and saying, 'You are better than me?' Then the Mother of the Believers, Aisha, said, 'Should I not settle between you two?' Asma said, 'Yes.' She said, 'Indeed, Abu Bakr came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he said, "O Abu Bakr, you are an emancipated slave of Allah from the Fire."' So since that day, he was called 'the emancipated one' and he was not called that before. Then Talhah ibn Ubaydullah entered and said, 'You, O Talhah, are one who settled his debt.'" (This hadith is authentic according to the conditions of Imam Muslim, and it was not included in his compilation).

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: "Whoever wants to see a walking martyr on the face of the earth, let him look at Talhah ibn Ubayd Allah." This is the narration attributed to Salat ibn Dinar, and it is not a requirement of this book (referring to the book in question) to establish the authenticity of this narration.
[Machine] "Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, says: 'And We have removed whatever malice may be in their hearts, [and we have made them] brothers on thrones facing each other.' (Surah Al-Hijr, verse 47) So he (the Prophet) said, 'O son of my brother, how is so-and-so? How is so-and-so?' He asked him about the mothers of his father's children. He said, 'We have not taken your lands this year except to prevent people from plundering them. O so-and-so, go with him to Banu Qurayzah and let him give you his share of this year's harvest, and let him give you back his land.' Then two men sitting on one side (said), one of them being Harith the blind, 'Allah is more just than that we should kill them and they become our brothers in Paradise.' He (the Prophet) said, 'A people who are farthest from the land of Allah, how could it be? If you have a need, come to us.'"

[Machine] "If he enters, he enters with strength, and if he exits, he exits with strength. The affairs of the hereafter have bewildered him, distancing him from his worldly affairs. It is as if he looks upon his Lord with his own eyes. Then, Az-Zubair ibn Al-Awwam proposed to her, but she refused. It was said to her, "Why?" She replied, "His wife does not point at him with her finger in her cloak." Then, Ali proposed to her, but she refused. It was said to her, "Why?" She replied, "His wife has no need of him for anything, she only fulfills her desires." Then, Talhah proposed to her and she said, "My husband has rights on me." They asked, "And how is that?" She replied, "I know his qualities. If he enters, he enters smiling, and if he exits, he exits laughing. If I ask, he gives, and if I am silent, he begins the conversation, and if I do something, he thanks me, and if I make a mistake, he forgives me." When he constructed the house, Ali said, "O Abu Muhammad, may I speak to Umm Aban?" He said, "Speak to her." So, he took her hand and said, "Peace be upon you, O noble soul." She replied, "And peace be upon you." He said, "The Commander of the Faithful proposed to you, but you refused." She said, "That is true." He said, "And Az-Zubair ibn Al-Awwam, the cousin of the Messenger of Allah, proposed to you, but you refused." She said, "That is true." He said, "And I proposed to you, and my close relatives from the Messenger of Allah, but you refused." She said, "That is true." He said, "By Allah, I have married you with the most handsome face and the most generous hands, who gives like this and like that."

[Machine] Talha came to me, and I found him sad. So I said, "Why do I see you with a gloomy face? Is there something bothering you about our matter?" He said, "No, by Allah, nothing about your matter bothers me. And you are indeed a good companion. But I have gathered some wealth." She said, "Send to your family and people and distribute it among them." He did as she suggested. Then I asked the treasurer, "How much did he distribute?" He said, "Four hundred thousand, and its value was a thousand dirhams per day." They used to call Talha "Al-Fayyad". Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in the summary.

[Machine] When the war prepared for battle, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , Talhah, and Simak ibn Kharashah (Abu Dujanah) remained silent and did not speak. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "I saw myself on the day of Uhud, and there was no creature on the earth closer to me than Jibril on my right and Talhah on my left." It was mentioned in a poem about that incident (Bahr Al-Taweel). On the day of Shu'ayb, Talhah felt sorrow for Muhammad during a difficult hour when things were tight for him. He protected him with his hands against spears, and his fingers were cut by the blades, but he did not fail. Talhah was the leader of the people after Muhammad, and he upheld the principles of Islam until they were firmly established.

[Machine] Hassan ibn Thabit stayed in Talahta, and he did not leave anyone. He stayed when the Prophet greeted, and when all the people left and they disappeared, protecting the Prophet's dwelling. The enemy approached him and he rejected them, covered in blood, fearing that they would say he sought revenge, they refrained.

[Machine] "Qudamah bin Mazhun passed away in the year 36, at the age of 68, and he did not have any gray hair."
27.133 [Machine] The Mention of the Virtues of Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman: "Indeed, he is Hudhayfah ibn Huseil, and Hudhayfah is the companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
[Machine] Hudayfah and his father were taken by the polytheists before the Battle of Badr, and they wanted to kill them. So, they swore an oath by Allah and made a pact that they would not assist the Muslims against them. They both swore to them, and they sent them. They came to the Prophet ﷺ and informed him. He said, "We have already sworn to them. If you wish, you can fight alongside us." He replied, "We will fulfill our oath to them, and we will seek the help of Allah against them."
[Machine] Urwah, indeed Hudhayfah bin Al-Yaman was one of the Banu Abs and he was an ally among the Ansar. His father was killed alongside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of Uhud. The Muslims mistakenly took him for a polytheist, so Hudhayfah woke up and said, "My father, my father." They did not understand him until they killed him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then ordered that he be shrouded.
[Machine] Because he was attacked by his people and spilled blood, he fled to the city and swore allegiance to the Bani Abd al-Ashhal, so his people called him al-Yaman because he swore allegiance to the Yemenis. Hudhayfah witnessed it along with his father Husayl and his brother Safwan at the Battle of Uhud. As for his father, he was killed by some Muslims that day, thinking he was one of the polytheists, so Hudhayfah gave his blood money to the Muslims. As for Hudhayfah, he witnessed the events with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ after the Battle of Badr and lived until the beginning of the caliphate of Ali for a period of thirty-six years. Some claim that he was in the cities for forty-five years after the assassination of Uthman for forty nights.

[Machine] Hudhayfah died in the year thirty-six, and it is said that he died forty days after Uthman.
[Machine] This statement is incorrect, and I believe its owner either did not know the time in which Uthman was killed, or did not accurately calculate it. This is because there is no dispute among all the people of knowledge that Uthman was killed in the month of Dhu al-Hijjah in the year thirty-five after the Hijrah. A group of them said he was killed on the twelfth night remaining from that month. If Uthman's killing happened in Dhu al-Hijjah and Hudhayfah lived for forty nights after him, then that refers to the year after it.

[Machine] When Hudhayfah faced death, having lived for forty nights after Uthman, he said to us, "I advise you to fear Allah and obey the Commander of the Believers, Ali ibn Abi Talib." At this point, Adh-Dhahabi remained silent in his summary.

[Machine] "Hudhayfah fainted at the beginning of the night, then woke up and said, 'What night is this?' I said, 'It is the highest level of magic.' He said, 'I seek refuge in Allah from the Hellfire.' This happened two or three times, then he said, 'Buy two shrouds for me and wrap me in them, but do not be excessive with me. If your companion is pleased with it, he will wear something better than them, but if not, he will take them quickly.' Al-Dhahabi was silent about summarizing this."

When he was asked about Hudhayfah, he said, "He was the most knowledgeable among the people about the hypocrites." And he mentioned the rest of the hadith.
