27. Book of the Companions
[Machine] "Ubayy ibn Ka'b ibn Qays ibn 'Ubayd ibn Zaid ibn Mu'awiya ibn 'Amr ibn Malik ibn al-Najjar witnessed the Battle of Badr."
[Machine] Khalifa ibn Khayyat said, "He mentioned this lineage and added to it, 'and the mother of Umm Ubayy ibn Ka'b was Suhaylah bint Al-Aswad ibn Haram ibn 'Amr ibn Zaid Manat ibn 'Adi ibn 'Amr ibn Malik ibn An-Najjar, and she was the aunt of Abu Talha.'"
[Machine] "Ubayy ibn Ka'b died during the caliphate of Umar ibn al-Khattab in the year twenty-two."
[Machine] Muhammad ibn Umar narrated and mentioned the lineage in his manner and added that he witnessed the Battle of Uhud with the seventy Ansar. He used to write down the revelations for the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him. There was a difference of opinion regarding the time of his death. It was said that he died during the caliphate of Umar in the year twenty-two, while others said he died during the caliphate of Uthman in the year thirty. This confirms the statements that Uthman ordered the compilation of the Quran.
[Machine] "I saw Ubayy ibn Ka'b with white hair and a beard that was not dyed."
[Machine] "The judges among the companions of the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) were six: Umar, Ali, Abdullah, Ubayy, Zaid, and Abu Musa. This is how we have been narrated in most of the reports, and the most authentic of them is narrated by Muadh bin Jabal instead of Abu Musa."
[Machine] I heard Abu Mus'hir saying, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ named Ubayy ibn Ka'b as the leader of the Ansar, and he did not pass away until they called him the leader of the Muslims."
[Machine] And Ubayy died during the caliphate of Umar in the twenty-second year.
[Machine] Ubayy ibn Ka'b died during the caliphate of Uthman in the year 32 of the caliphate.
[Machine] He died during the Caliphate of Uthman in the year thirty. It was mentioned that he was nicknamed Abu al-Tufail and he had two nicknames. His death occurred in the city of the Prophet ﷺ after the accusation was made against Uthman.
[Machine] "The book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet is what has been made clear to you, so act upon it. And what has been ambiguous to you, then refer it to the knowledgeable ones." (Sahih)
[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ made a brotherhood between his companions. He made a brotherhood between Ubayy ibn Ka'b and Sa'id ibn Zaid ibn Amr ibn Nufayl.
[Machine] "It does not harm you or make you sad that it is difficult for me that I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'None should stand in the first row except the Muhajirun (emigrants) and the Ansar.' So I asked, 'Who is this?' They said, 'It is Ubayy ibn Ka'b.'"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A surah was revealed to me, and I was commanded to recite it to you." I asked, "Shall I name it after you?" He said, "Yes." I then asked my father, "Are you happy with this, O Abu al-Mundhir?" He replied, "What would prevent me? By Allah, the Most High and Most Blessed, says, 'Say: In the bounty of Allah and in His mercy, in that let them rejoice.' [Surah Yunus: 58]"
[Machine] I heard Ikrimah bin Sulaiman saying, "I read upon Ismail bin Abdullah bin Qustantini. When I reached the verse of Ad-Duha, he said to me, 'Say Allahu Akbar at the end of every chapter until you finish.' Abdullah bin Kathir informed him that Mujahid had read upon him and commanded him to do so. Mujahid informed him that Ibn Abbas had commanded him to do so. Ibn Abbas informed him that Ubayy bin Ka'b had commanded him to do so. And Ubayy bin Ka'b informed him that the Prophet ﷺ had commanded him to do so."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Abu Mundhir, which verse in the Book of Allah do you see as the greatest?" Abu Mundhir replied, "I said, 'Allah! There is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence.'" The Prophet then struck his chest and said, "May knowledge bring you joy, Abu Mundhir."
[Machine] "If you delay me until Friday, I will speak of what I have heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ without fearing the blame of any blamer." So when Thursday came, I set out and found the roads full of people. I asked, 'What's the matter with people today?' They said, 'It's as if you are a stranger.' I said, 'Indeed.' They said, 'The leader of the Muslims, Ubayy ibn Ka'b, has passed away.'"
[Machine] "Umar Ali taught us, and Ubayy recited for us, and indeed we used to leave some of what Ubayy says and Ubayy says, 'I have taken it from the messenger of Allah ﷺ and I do not abandon it,' and Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, said, 'We do not abrogate a verse or cause it to be forgotten' [Quran 2:106]. Adh-Dhahabi remained silent about it in his summary."
[Machine] Who is the one who recited this verse to you? He said, "I recited it to me, Ubayy ibn Ka'b." They said, "Come with us to him," so they went to him. When they arrived, they found him reclining on a cushion, resting his head. They greeted him and he returned the greeting. They said, "O Abu Al-Mundhir, he informed me that you recited this verse." He said, "Yes, I received it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ." Umar said, "You received it from the Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Yes, I received it from the Messenger of Allah." He repeated this three times, and in the third time, he was angry and said, "Yes, by Allah, Allah revealed it to Jibril and Jibril revealed it to Muhammad, and neither my son nor I had any part in its composition." Umar left while raising his hands and saying, "Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar." This narration has been omitted by Al-Dhahabi due to its weakness.
[Machine] To him, O Amir al-Mu'minin, that polytheism is as Luqman said to his son, "O my son, do not associate [anything] with Allah. Indeed, association [with Him] is a great injustice." (Luqman 13) Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in his summary.
