27. Book of the Companions
[Machine] I heard Ahmad bin Hanbal saying, "None of the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ received the virtues that Ali bin Abi Talib received." Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in his summarization.
[Machine] Fatimah, the daughter of Asad son of Hashim, was the first Hashemite born from Hashim's family. She held a high position among the people during the time of the Prophet ﷺ. She passed away during the lifetime of the Prophet ﷺ, and he prayed for her. Her name was Ali, Asad, and because of that, the poem [Al-Bahr Ar-Rajz] says, "I am the one whom my mother called Haydar."
[Machine] I heard Amir al-Mu'minin, Ali ibn Abi Talib, saying that when Fatimah bint Asad ibn Hashim died, the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, shrouded her in his shirt, prayed upon her, and made seventy takbirat over her. He entered her grave and made his space in the grave seem as though it was spacious and level with her. He came out of her grave with his eyes shedding tears and his cheeks wet. When he returned, Umar ibn al-Khattab said, "O Messenger of Allah, I saw you do something for this woman that you did not do for anyone else." He said, "O Umar, this woman was my mother who gave birth to me. Abu Talib used to arrange banquets and invite people to his gatherings, and we would gather around his food. This woman would prefer me over everyone else and would give me a bigger portion. So, I reciprocate her favor. Indeed, Jibril, peace be upon him, informed me on behalf of my Lord, the Exalted and Mighty, that she is among the people of Paradise. And Jibril, peace be upon him, also informed me that Allah Almighty has commanded seventy thousand angels to pray upon her."
[Machine] Muawiya said to Saad bin Abi Waqqas, "What prevents you from insulting Ibn Abi Talib?" Saad replied, "I do not insult what I mentioned three times, which the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said. It is more beloved to me than the red camels." Muawiya asked, "What are they, O Abu Ishaq?" Saad replied, "I do not insult him what I mentioned when the revelation came down upon him, and he took Ali and his two sons and Fatimah and hid them under his garment, then said, 'O Lord, these are the people of my household.' And I do not insult him what I mentioned when he left me behind in the Battle of Tabuk, which the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, led. Ali said to him, 'You left me with the children and women.' He replied, 'Do you not like to be to me like Aaron was to Moses, except that there is no prophethood after me?' And I do not insult him what I mentioned on the day of Khaybar, when the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, 'I will give this banner to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger, and whom Allah will grant victory through his hands.' So, we rushed towards the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, and he asked, 'Where is Ali?' They told him that he had sore eyes. He said, 'Call him.' When Ali came, the Prophet spat in his face and then gave him the banner. Allah granted him victory. I swear by Allah, Muawiya did not mention anything correctly until he left the city."

[Machine] "When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned from the Farewell Pilgrimage and camped at Ghadir Khumm, he ordered for a pulpit to be set up. Then he said, 'It seems that I have been called, and I have responded. I have left among you two weighty things: the Book of Allah, the Almighty and my progeny. Look carefully at how you will treat them after me, for they will never separate until they meet me at the Pool.' The narration is abbreviated by Al-Dhahabi."
[Machine] "He (Zaid ibn Arqam) heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ camped between Makkah and Madinah near five planted palm trees on the day when the bones are disintegrated. The people swept the area under the trees, then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ offered the evening prayer, stood up to deliver a sermon, praised Allah, glorified Him, and delivered a sermon. He said, 'Whatever Allah willed I uttered, and he continued, 'O people! I am leaving behind two things, and you will never go astray as long as you hold fast to them: the Book of Allah and my family, the people of my household.' Muhammad ibn Salamah ibn Kuhayl narrated this, and As-Sa'di further explained it."
ʿAlī is the mawlá (leader) to whomever the Prophet ﷺ is the leader
I fought along with ʿAlī to Yemen and I sensed estrangement from him. Then I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and mentioned ʿAlī and talked down about him. I then saw the ˹color˺ on the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ change and he said, "O Buraydah, am I not more prefered to the believers than themselves?" I said, "Yes O Messenger of Allah." He then said, "For whomever I am his mawlá (leader), then ʿAlī is his mawlá." and he mentioned the ḥadīth.
that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ dispatched an army and he put 'Ali bin Abi Talib in charge of it. He left on the expedition and he entered upon a female slave. So four of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ scolded him, and they made a pact saying: "[If] we meet the Messenger of Allah ﷺ we will inform him of what 'Ali did." When the Muslims returned from the journey, they would begin with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and give him Salam, then they would go to their homes. So when the expedition arrived, they gave Salam to the Prophet ﷺ, and one of the four stood saying: "O Messenger of Allah! Do you see that 'Ali bin Abi Talib did such and such." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned away from him. Then the second one stood and said as he said, and he turned away from him. Then the third stood before him, and said as he said, and he turned away from him. Then the fourth stood and said as they had said. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ faced him, and the anger was visible on his face, he said: "What do you want from 'Ali?! What do you want from 'Ali?! What do you want from 'Ali?! Indeed 'Ali is from me, and I am from him, and he is the ally of every believer after me." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 3712)
