[Machine] It is said that Khalid ibn Huzayn ibn Ubayd ibn Khaled was appointed by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as the leader of Medina when he left to conquer Mecca.  

وَيُقَالُ كُلْثُومُ بْنُ حُصَيْنِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ اسْتَخْلَفَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى الْمَدِينَةِ لَمَّا خَرَجَ لَفَتْحِ مَكَّةَ»  

[Machine] Indeed, when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to conquer Mecca, he appointed Abu Ruhm Kulthum ibn Husein al-Ghafari as the leader of Medina.  

«إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَمَّا خَرَجَ لَفَتْحِ مَكَّةَ اسْتَخْلَفَ أَبَا رُهْمٍ كُلْثُومَ بْنَ حُصَيْنٍ الْغِفَارِيَّ عَلَى الْمَدِينَةِ» صحيح  

[Machine] He heard from Abu Ruhm, Kalthum ibn Husein, one of the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , who pledged allegiance under the tree. He said, "I participated in the Battle of Tabuk with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . One night, I was walking with him when drowsiness overcame me. I woke up and realized that my camel had gone far ahead, along with the camel of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . I shouted to my camel to bring it back, but my eyes were heavy with sleep. It was during the night. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'What matters most to me is that the emigrants from Quraysh, the Ansar, and the Islams have not abandoned me, and the Gifār.' Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in his summary.  

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا رُهْمٍ كُلْثُومَ بْنَ حُصَيْنٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ الَّذِينَ بَايَعُوا تَحْتَ الشَّجَرَةِ قَالَ غَزَوْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ غَزْوَةَ تَبُوكَ فَسِرْتُ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ مَعَهُ وَنَحْنُ بِقُرْبِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَأَلْقَى عَلَيْنَا النُّعَاسَ وَجَعَلْتُ أَسْتَيْقِظُ وَقَدْ دَنَتْ رَاحِلَتِي مِنْ رَاحِلَةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَطَفِقْتُ أَزْجُرُ رَاحِلَتِي عَنْهُ حَتَّى غَلَبَتْنِي عَيْنِي فِي بَعْضِ الطَّرِيقِ وَنَحْنُ فِي بَعْضِ اللَّيْلِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ أَعَزَّ أَهْلِي عَلَيَّ أَنْ يَتَخَلَّفَ عَنِّي الْمُهَاجِرُونَ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ وَالْأَنْصَارُ وَأَسْلَمُ وَغِفَارٌ» سكت عنه الذهبي في التلخيص
