٢٧۔ كِتَابُ مَعْرِفَةِ الصَّحَابَةِ ؓ
[Machine] "Amr, son of Al-Ahtam, son of Sumayy, son of Sinan, son of Khalid, son of Minqar, son of Ubaid, son of Muqais, son of Amr, son of Kaab, son of Saad, son of Zaid, from the Banu Tamim tribe. The name Ahtam is synonymous with Sinan. His valor was hailed on the Day of the Battle of the Dogs."
[Machine] "Qais bin Asim, Al-Zubra' bin Badr, and Amr bin Al-Ahtam Al-Tamimi sat before the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him. Al-Zubra' stood up and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I am the leader of the Tamim tribe, and they obey and follow me. I provide them with their rights and protect them from injustice. And this is well-known to Amr bin Al-Ahtam.' Amr bin Al-Ahtam said, 'By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, he is indeed arrogant, preventing others from expressing their opinions while being obedient in his own company.' Al-Zubra' said, 'By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, he knows things about me that he didn't mention, and envy is the only reason preventing him from speaking about it.' Amr said, 'I envy you, and by Allah, you are indeed a wicked relative, ignorant in financial matters, and a source of trouble to the family. By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, you spoke the truth in what you said first and last. But I am a person who is content, so I said the best of what I knew, and I became angry, so I said the worst of what I found. By Allah, you spoke the truth in both matters.' The Prophet, peace be upon him, said, 'Indeed, eloquence carries magic. Indeed, eloquence carries magic.' It is reported that Abu Bakrah Al-Ansari was present in this gathering."

[Machine] We were with the Prophet ﷺ when a delegation from the Banu Tamim arrived, including Qais bin Asim, Amr bin Al-Ahtam, and Al-Zibraqan bin Badr. The Prophet ﷺ asked Amr bin Al-Ahtam, "What do you say about Al-Zibraqan bin Badr?" Amr replied, "O Messenger of Allah, he is a powerful leader in his tribe, with a strong presence and an influential position preventing anyone from opposing him." Al-Zibraqan then said, "O Messenger of Allah, I can assure you that he knows more about me than what he has described. However, he envies me." Amr continued, "By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, he is a deceiving man, stingy in his generosity, wicked in character, and foolish in his actions. By Allah, you did not lie at first, and you have spoken the truth in the end. But I was pleased, so I expressed the best I knew, and I got angry, so I expressed the worst I knew." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Verily, eloquence can be magic, and there is wisdom in poetry."
