27. Book of the Companions
[Machine] I heard Mus'ab ibn Abdullah Al-Zubayri saying, "Ammar ibn Yasir ibn Amir ibn Malik ibn Kinanah ibn Qais ibn Al-Husayn ibn Al-Wathim ibn Tha'laba ibn Amr ibn Harithah ibn Malik ibn Anas ibn Zaid."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Have patience, O family of Yasir, for your appointment is Paradise." He said, "And the name of the mother of Ammar ibn Yasir was Sumayyah bint Muslim ibn Lakhm." Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in his summary.
[Machine] "He entered upon Uthman and a tall, bald man with some hair in the front of his head came in. I said, 'Who is this?' They said, 'Ammaar ibn Yaasir.'"
[Machine] "I saw Ammar ibn Yasir on the day of Siffin with a sword in his hand, continuously fighting."
[Machine] That He created you from dust, then suddenly you are human beings scattered [Quran 30:20]. Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in his summarization.
[Machine] "And by the One in whose hand is my soul, I fought three times with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with this, and this is the fourth." Then he said, "And by the One in whose hand is my soul, if they were to beat us until they reached Sa'afat Hijar, I would know that we are on the truth and they are on falsehood." Adh-Dhahabi remained silent about it in his summary.
[Machine] Regarding the naming of those from the allies of Banu Makhzum who witnessed the Battle of Badr, 'Amr ibn Yasir.
[Machine] Abu Salamah and Umm Salamah migrated and Ammar ibn Yasir went out with them, and he was their ally.
[Machine] "I used to be a soil to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and no one was closer to him in age than me."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived in Madinah as the first thing he did when he arrived, 'Ammar ibn Yasir said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ should have a place for him to rest in and pray when he wakes up from his sleep." So, 'Ammar gathered stones and built the Quba Mosque, which was the first mosque to be built, and 'Ammar was the one who built it.
[Machine] The first person to build a mosque and pray in it was Ammar ibn Yasir.
[Machine] From Asim ibn Umar regarding the naming of those whom the Messenger of Allah ﷺ made brothers between the Muhajirin and the Ansar, they said: "He made brothers between 'Ammar ibn Yasir and Hudayfa ibn Al-Yaman."
[Machine] The permission of Abu Ghadiyah Al-Juhani was sought and Abd al-A'la said, "Let him in." So he was admitted and he had wounds on him. Then a man of tall stature struck him as if he does not belong to this Ummah. When he sat down, he said, "We used to consider Ammar ibn Yasir as one of our best." He said, "By Allah, I was in the Mosque of Quba when he said a word that if I had any helpers, I would have killed him." He said, "On the day of Siffin, he walked ahead of the troop on foot until he stabbed a man with a spear between the two sides, and he killed him. The crowd turned away from him, and the Divine Forgiveness repelled him. Then he struck him, and it was the head of Ammar ibn Yasir." He said, "Our servant says, 'I have never seen a man openly more misguided than him.'" Ibn Hajar remained silent about summarizing it.
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "He will be killed by the rebellious group." So 'Amr stood up in alarm and went to Mu'awiyah and said to him, "What is the matter with you?" Mu'awiyah said, "Just now 'Ammar ibn Yasir has been killed." 'Amr said, "Has 'Ammar been killed?' Mu'awiyah replied, "Yes, he has been killed, but by 'Ali and his companions." They brought him until they threw him among our spears or swords, according to their agreement, and did not kill him by this method (i.e. crucifixion), as stated in the conditions of both Bukhari and Muslim.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Who is this man?" They said, "It is 'Ammaar ibn Yaasir." He said, "Do you remember the day when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was building the mosque, and we were carrying bricks one by one, and 'Ammaar was carrying two bricks at a time? And then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by while 'Ammaar was carrying two bricks, and you were there as well. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, 'Verily, the rebellious group will kill you, while you will be among the people of Paradise.' Then 'Umar went to Mu'aawiyah and said, 'We have killed this man, although the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said something about him that we shouldn't have ignored.' Mu'aawiyah told him to be quiet and said, 'By Allah, you'll keep boasting about it until you die, but we were the ones who killed him. It was only 'Ali and his companions who brought him until they handed him over to us.'" And this is how you see the mistake.
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "O Allah, ignite the Quraysh with 'Ammar. Indeed, the killer of 'Ammar and the one who takes his belongings will be in the Fire." 'Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Mubarak, who is trustworthy and reliable, narrated this incident from Mu'tamir, from his father, from Abu Bakr. If this narration is preserved, then it is authentic according to the conditions of the two scholars (Al-Bukhari and Muslim), and they did not include it in their collections. But people have only narrated it from Mu'tamir, from Layth, from Mujahid, based on the condition of Al-Bukhari and Muslim.
[Machine] Ammaar bin Yaasir sought permission from the Prophet ﷺ while I was with him. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Grant him permission." When Ammaar entered, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Welcome, O good and pure one."
[Machine] Omar ibn al-Khattab wrote to us, "I have appointed Ammar ibn Yasir as a leader and Abdullah ibn Mas'ud as a teacher and minister to you. They are both from the elite companions of Muhammad ﷺ and among the people of Badr. Listen to them and know that I have appointed Ibn Mas'ud in charge of your treasury. So, listen to them, learn from them, and follow their example. I have preferred Abdullah over myself." This narration is authentic according to the conditions set by both Al-Bukhari and Muslim.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Amr (a companion) was never given the choice between two matters except that he would choose the one that was more virtuous." Adh-Dhahabi remained silent about it in his summarization.
[Machine] The translation is as follows: "The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, passed by Ammar and his family while they were being tortured, so he said, 'Give glad tidings to the family of Ammar and the family of Yasir, for indeed your meeting place is Paradise.' This narration is authentic according to the conditions of Muslim, but he did not include it in his compilation."

This hadith has an authentic chain of narrators, and it was not mentioned in Sahih Al-Bukhari or Sahih Muslim.

[Machine] I heard Khalid bin Al-Walid saying, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me on a military expedition, and with me was Ammar bin Yasir. We encountered a group of people, some of whom were from a household that had embraced Islam. Ammar said, 'These people have embraced monotheism.' I did not pay attention to his words, and as a result, they suffered the same fate as others. Ammar then began blaming me, saying that if I had informed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about this situation, he would have come to their aid. So, I went to the Prophet ﷺ and informed him about what had happened. When the Prophet ﷺ saw me, he did not show any support and turned away with tears in his eyes. He called me and said, 'O Khalid, do not insult Ammar. Whoever insults Ammar, Allah insults him, and whoever hates Ammar, Allah hates him. And whoever belittles Ammar, Allah belittles him.' Khalid said, 'O Messenger of Allah, forgive me, by Allah, nothing prevented me from responding to him except my belittlement of him on that day.' Khalid added, 'And there is nothing that I fear more than my belittlement of Ammar bin Yasir on that day.' This hadith has an authentic chain of narration according to the scholars of hadith. Mas'ud bin Sa'd, Mas'ood bin Sa'd, Sa'di, Sa'di, Mas'ood bin Sa'd, Sa'di. Muhammad bin Fudail bin Ghazwan, and Al-Hasan bin Ubaidullah an-Nakha'i have reported this hadith in a similar way."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me on raids, and we encountered them. Al-Ammar ibn Yasir said, "They have taken refuge from us with the belief in the oneness of Allah." I did not pay attention to what he said and he mentioned the hadith in a similar manner.
[Machine] There was an argument between me and Ammar ibn Yasir, so I complained about it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Khalid, whoever insults Ammar, Allah will insult him, and whoever harms Ammar, Allah will harm him, and whoever belittles Ammar, Allah will belittle him." This was narrated by Al-Awam ibn Hawshab from Salamah ibn Kuhayl, and Shu'bah disagrees with its chain of narration. He said it was narrated by Salamah from Alqamah from Khalid ibn Walid.

[Machine] There was a conversation between me and 'Amr ibn Yasir, and I showed harshness towards him. So 'Amr went to complain about me to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ . Then Khalid came and he also complained about me. Khalid kept intensifying the complaints against me without any increase except harshness. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ remained silent. 'Amr cried and said, "O Messenger of Allah, don't you see him?" The Prophet ﷺ raised his head and said, "Whoever harms 'Amr, Allah will harm him, and whoever dislikes 'Amr, Allah will dislike him." Khalid said, "So I left and there was nothing more beloved to me than the satisfaction of 'Amr, and I met him and he was satisfied." This is the hadith of Al-Awam ibn Al-Hawshab.

[Machine] Never has a day come upon me that was more difficult for me than the day when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me with some of his companions and ordered me regarding them. Among the people was 'Ammaar, and we encountered a group of people, among whom were Muslim families. 'Ammaar spoke to me about them, and some of the Muslims said, "Leave them alone." I said, "No, by Allah, I will not do so until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sees them and gives his opinion about them." This angered 'Ammaar, and when I reached the Prophet ﷺ , I sought permission to speak to him while 'Ammaar sought permission as well. Permission was granted to him, and 'Ammaar entered and said, "O Messenger of Allah, did you not see what Khalid did and what he did?" I said, "O Messenger of Allah, by Allah, if it was not for your gathering, Ibn Sumayyah would not have insulted me." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said to me, "Did you not answer the man?" I said, "There was nothing preventing me from answering him except that it would have belittled him." This angered the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and he said, "Whoever hates 'Ammaar, Allah hates him, and whoever insults 'Ammaar, Allah insults him, and whoever belittles 'Ammaar, Allah belittles him." I then left the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and did not stop seeking forgiveness for myself from 'Ammaar.

[Machine] "That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not die until the day he died while he loved for a man to enter the Hellfire forever." They said, "We used to see him loving you and seeking help from you and entrusting you with tasks." He said, "Allah knows best about my love for him, but it is sufficient that we used to see him loving a man." They asked, "Who is that?" He said, "Ammaar ibn Yaasir." They said, "So, he is your killer on the day of Siffeen."

[Machine] "And by the One in whose hand is my life, I have fought with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ three times and this is the fourth time. And by the One in whose hand is my life, if they were to hit us until they reached the sa'afat (a type of cloth), we would know that our best interest lies in following the truth and that they are on misguidance." This is reported as authentic according to the conditions of Al-Bukhari and Muslim and they did not exclude it.

He made Abu Hurairah accessible to me, so I sat with him and said to him: 'Indeed, I asked Allah to make it easy for me to sit with one who is righteous, and it is to you that I was guided.' So he said to me: 'From where are you?' I said: 'From the people of Al-Kufah, I came to search out good and to seek it.' So he said: 'Is there not among you Sa'd bin Malik whose supplication is answered, Ibn Mas'ud, the one who used to carry the water for purification and the sandals of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and Hudhaifah, the keeper of the secrets of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and 'Ammar whom Allah has guarded from Shaitan upon the tongue of His Prophet, and Salman the companion of the Two Books?'" that he (ʿAmmar b. Yāsir) entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ seeking advice. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, “Should I not teach you a healing that Jibrīl used to heal me?” I said, “Of course.”
He then taught him: “bismillāhi arqīk, wa-allāhu yashfīk, min kulli dāʾin yuʾdhīk (In the name of Allah I ˹attempt to˺ heal you, and may Allah cure you, from all ailments that harm you.) Take this ˹ruqyah˺ and be blessed.”

[Machine] We witnessed the battle of Siffin with Ali and we entrusted two men to them. When there was negligence among the people, he attacked them and would not return until he dyed his sword with their blood. He said, "Excuse me, by Allah, I did not return until I announce my sword. And I saw Ammar and Hashim bin Uthba running between the two ranks, and Ammar said, 'O Hashim, I swear by Allah, he will betray his command and abandon his soldiers.' Then he said, 'O Hashim, Paradise is under the shades today. Beloved Muhammad and his party, O Hashim, I am blind, and there is no good in being blind. He cannot endure adversity.' Hashim shook the banner and said, 'The blind one seeks a place for his people. He has treated life until he is full. He must either fall or cause others to fall.' He then entered a valley in the midst of the valleys of Siffin. Abu Abdur Rahman said, 'And I saw the companions of Muhammad ﷺ following Ammar as if he had knowledge.'
