27. Book of the Companions (1/53)
[Machine] I asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what should I do if the worshippers disagree?" He said, "Go out with your sword to the open area and strike it with it, then go back to your house until death or a wrongful hand reaches you."
[Machine] "He gifted the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with a sword from Najran. When he presented it to him, Muhammad ibn Maslamah gave it to him and said, 'Fight with this in the cause of Allah. When people start arguing, strike with it the stone, then enter your home and be a peaceful guardian until you are killed by the wrong hand or death comes to you as a judgment.'"
[Machine] "I heard Hassan saying: Talhah and Zubayr came to Basra, and the people asked them, 'Why did you come?' They replied, 'We are seeking revenge for the blood of Uthman.' Hassan said, 'Oh, glory be to Allah! Don't people have any common sense? Can't they say, 'By Allah, no one killed Uthman except you?' So when Ali came to Kufa, and people, who also lacked common sense, said to him, 'We swear by Allah, we did not assure your safety.'" (This is an excerpt from a conversation, and some details were omitted in the summarization by Al-Zuhri.)
[Machine] "And I saw Talha, and he loved the gatherings the most, so he would excel in them. He would stroke his beard against his chest. I said to him, 'O Abu Muhammad, I see that you love the gatherings the most and you stroke your beard against your chest. If you dislike this matter, then leave it, as no one forces you to do it.' He said, 'O Alqamah bin Waqqas, do not blame me. We were once united like one hand against our enemies, but now we have become like two mighty mountains of iron, and one of us reaches out to his companion.' Al-Dhahabi remained silent about this in his summary."
"Allah restrained me with something that I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. When Kisra was destroyed, he said: 'Who did they have to succeed him?' They said: 'His daughter.' So the Prophet ﷺ said: 'A people will never succeed who give their leadership to a woman.'" He said: "So when 'Aishah arrived - meaning in Al-Basrah - I remembered the saying of Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so Allah restrained me by it." Abu Eisa said: This Hadith is [Hasan] Sahih. (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2262)

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ mentioned the exit of some of the believing mothers, and Aisha laughed. He said, "Look, Hamiraa, that it may not be you." Then he turned to Ali and said, "If you are given any authority over her, be kind to her." Abdul Jabbar did not leave for him.
[Machine] When Ali traveled to Basra, he visited Umm Salamah, the wife of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ , to bid her farewell. She said, "Keep the secret of Allah and seek His protection. By Allah, you are upon the truth, and the truth is with you. If it were not for the fact that I dislike disobeying Allah and His Messenger, he ﷺ advised us to be in our houses, I would have accompanied you. However, I swear by Allah that I will send with you someone who is dearer to me and more precious to me than myself, my son Umar." "These three hadiths are all authentic according to the conditions of both Al-Bukhari and Muslim, and they did not exclude it."
[Machine] "Umar said, 'Stay in your home, for indeed you have joined the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in battle.' He repeated this to him, so Umar said to him for the third time or after it, 'Sit in your home. By Allah, I find that you and your companions will leave from the outskirts of Madinah and cause corruption among the companions of Muhammad ﷺ .'" (Authentic)
[Machine] When Aisha reached some of the houses of the Bani 'Amir, the dogs barked at her. She asked, "What water is this?" They said, "It is Al-Hawab." Aisha said, "I think I should go back." Az-Zubair said, "No, do not turn back, and the people would see you and Allah will correct the matter between them." Aisha said, "I think I should go back." I heard Allah's Messenger ﷺ saying, "How (regrettable) is the situation of one of you who is startled by the barking of a dog belonging to Al-Hawab (tribe)." Adh-Dhahabi remained silent about a conclusion to this narration.
When we left Makkah, the daughter of Hamzah followed us, crying: O uncle, O uncle. I took her by the hand and gave her to Fatimah and said: Here is your cousin. When we came to Madinah, Jaʿfar, Zaid bin Harithah and I disputed concerning her, Jaʿfar said: She is the daughter of my paternal uncle and her maternal aunt is married to me - meaning Asma’ bint ʿUmais, Zaid said. She is the daughter of my brother. I said: I took her and she is the daughter of my paternal uncle. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “As for you, O Jaʿfar, you resemble me in appearance and attitude. As for you, O Ali, you are of me and I am of you. As for you, O Zaid, you are our brother and our freed slave. The girl should be with her maternal aunt, for the maternal aunt is [like] a mother.” I said: O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, why donʿt you marry her? He said: ʿShe is the daughter of my brother through breastfeeding.“ (Using translation from Aḥmad 770)
[Machine] What will make me curse the Messenger of Allah ﷺ among you? So I said, "I seek refuge in Allah or glory be to Allah or a similar word." She said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Whoever curses Ali has indeed cursed me.'"
[Machine] I heard Abu Abdullah Al-Jadali say, "I performed Hajj when I was young, so I passed by the city and saw the people gathered in one place. I followed them and they entered the house of Umm Salamah, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ . I heard her say, 'O Shabib ibn Rib'i, a man with a sharp and dry tongue answered her, 'Here I am, O my mother.' She said, 'Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ curse in your gathering?' He said, 'How is that?' She said, 'Ali ibn Abi Talib said, 'We say things that we desire worldly gain.' She continued, 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Whoever curses Ali has cursed me, and whoever curses me has cursed Allah the Exalted.'"
“Whoever obeys me, obeys Allah, And whoever disobeys me, disobeys Allah. Whoever obeys the ruler, obeys me, and whoever disobeys the ruler, disobeys me.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 2859)
[Machine] "O enemy of Allah, you have harmed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . Indeed, those who harm Allah and His Messenger, Allah curses them in this world and the Hereafter and has prepared for them a humiliating punishment." [Al-Ahzab 57] If the Messenger of Allah ﷺ were alive, you would harm him.
[Machine] "We went with Ali to Yemen, and his long journey tired me until I found it in myself. When I arrived, I expressed my complaint to him in the mosque until the messenger of Allah ﷺ was informed. I entered the mosque one morning and the messenger of Allah ﷺ was with some of his companions. When he saw me, he fixed his gaze on me and said, 'He says he has a complaint against me.' So I sought refuge in Allah from causing harm to you, O Messenger of Allah. He said, 'Indeed, whoever harms Ali has harmed me.'"
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said to Ali, "You will clarify for my nation what they differed about after me."
[Machine] We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when his sandal broke, so Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) stayed behind to fix it. He walked a little and then said, "There are among you those who fight for the interpretation of the Quran as I fought for its revelation." The people eagerly asked who it was, including Abu Bakr and Umar. Abu Bakr said, "It is me." The Prophet ﷺ said, "No." Umar said, "It is me." The Prophet ﷺ said, "No, but it is the one who is fixing the sandal," referring to Ali. We went to him and gave him the glad tidings, but he did not raise his head, as if he had heard it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ .
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, called me and said, "O Ali, indeed in you is a resemblance to Jesus, peace be upon him, that the Jews will despise him to the extent that they will slander his mother, and the Christians will love him to the extent that they will exalt him to a status not befitting of him." Ali said, "Verily, he will be destroyed by excessive love for him, as he will be neglected by what is not in him. And he will be hated by false claims against him, although I am not a prophet and no revelation comes to me, but I follow the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet, peace be upon him, as much as I am able. So whatever I command you with in obedience to Allah, it is upon you to obey me in what you love or hate. And whatever I command you with disobedience, neither I nor anyone else is to be obeyed in disobedience to Allah, the Almighty. Indeed, obedience is only in what is good." [Sahih Isnad, not reported by al-Hakam bin Abdul-Malik and here is Ibn Mu'in.]

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "O Ali, whoever separates from me has indeed separated from Allah, and whoever separates from you O Ali, has indeed separated from me." This hadith has a authentic chain of narration, even though it was rejected by some individuals.

[Machine] "I was with Ali on the Day of Camel, and when I saw Aisha standing, I felt a sense of unease. Allah then revealed to me the reason for that during the Dhuhr prayer. I fought alongside the Commander of the Believers, and when it was over, I went to the city and visited Umm Salamah. I said to her, 'By Allah, I did not come to ask for food or drink, but I am a supporter of Abu Dhar.' She welcomed me and I narrated my story to her. She asked, 'Where were you when hearts flew like birds?' I replied, 'I went to the place where Allah revealed to me the reason for that when the sun had set.' She said, 'Well done! I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'Ali is with the Quran, and the Quran is with Ali. They will never separate until they return to me at the Pond.'"

Some people spoke about this, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up and praised and glorified Allah. Then he said, "After that, I have been commanded to close these doors except for Ali's door." He (the companion) said, "By Allah, I did not close or open anything, but I followed what I was commanded to do."

[Machine] O son of al-Hajjaj, don't you see that you belittle Ali ibn Abi Talib, whom Muhammad ﷺ sent with truth? I used to be the servant of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and every day I used to serve a young boy from the Ansar in front of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . That day happened to be my daily routine when Umm Ayman, the foster mother of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , came with a bird. I placed it in front of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and he asked, "O Umm Ayman, what is this bird?" She said, "I found this bird and made it for you." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Allah, bring to me the dearest of Your creation to you and me, so that he may eat with me from this bird." He knocked on the door and said, "O Anas, see who is at the door." I said, "O Allah, make him a man from the Ansar." I went, and there was Ali at the door. I said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ is in need." I came near and stood in my place, but I had barely stood when he knocked on the door and said, "O Anas, see who is at the door." I said, "O Allah, make him a man from the Ansar." I went, and there was Ali at the door. I said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ is in need." I came near and stood in my place, but I had barely stood when he knocked on the door and said, "O Anas, go and let him in, for you are not the first to love his people, but he is not from the Ansar." So I went and let him in. He said, "O Anas, bring the bird near him." I placed it in front of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and they both ate. Muhammad ibn al-Hajjaj said, "O Anas, was this arranged by you?" I replied, "Yes." He said, "I swear by Allah, I have given you a pledge not to belittle Ali after this incident, and I don't know anyone who belittles him except that I will break his nose." Ibrahim ibn Thabit, you are incorrect.

[Machine] So they began and started speaking, and we do not know what they said. He said, then he came shaking his garment and saying, "Alas and woe to them!" They fell into a man who possessed more than ten virtues that no one else had. They fell into a man whom the Prophet ﷺ said, "I will send a man who will never be humiliated by Allah. He loves Allah and His Messenger, and Allah and His Messenger love him." So he became ambitious for her, and he said, "Where is Ali?" They said, "He is at the grinding mill." He said, "No one of them can grind." He came while he was blind, barely able to see, and he blew into his eyes, and then he shook the flag three times and gave it to him. Ali came with Safiya bint Huyay, and Ibn Abbas said, "Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent a man with Surah Al-Tawbah, and then he sent Ali after him. He took it from him and said, 'No one should take it except a man who is like me, and I am like him.' Ibn Abbas said, "The Prophet ﷺ asked his cousins, 'Who among you would be loyal to me in this life and the Hereafter?' Ali was sitting with them, and he said, 'Oh, Messenger of Allah, I will be loyal to you in this life and the Hereafter.' He said, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ approached a man from among them and said, 'Who among you would be loyal to me in this life and the Hereafter?' They refused, so he said to Ali, 'You are my ally in this life and the Hereafter.' Ibn Abbas said, 'Ali was the first person to believe after Khadijah.' He said, 'Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took off his robe and put it on Ali, Fatimah, Hasan, and Husain, and said, 'Indeed, Allah wants to remove impurity from you, O people of the household, and purify you completely.' Ibn Abbas said, 'And Ali sold himself, so he wore the robe of the Prophet ﷺ and then slept in his place.' Ibn Abbas said, 'And the polytheists used to throw stones at the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . Abu Bakr and Ali came, and Ali was sleeping. He said, 'And Abu Bakr thought that he was the Messenger of Allah ﷺ .' He said, 'O Messenger of Allah!' Ali said to him, 'Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has gone towards the Ma'oon well, so he followed him.' He said, 'Then Abu Bakr left, and Ali entered the cave with him.' He said, 'And Ali started throwing stones just as the Prophet ﷺ used to do while he was relieving himself, with his head wrapped in a cloth that he would not remove until morning. Then he uncovered his head, and they said, 'You are lowly.' And your companion did not uncover his head while we were throwing stones at him, and you uncover your head even though we object to it.' Ibn Abbas said, 'And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out in the battle of Tabuk with the people. Ali said to him, 'Shall I go out with you?' He said, 'No.' So Ali wept, and he said to him, 'Are you not satisfied with being in the position of Aaron to Moses, except that no prophet will come after me?' Ibn Abbas said, 'And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Umar when he said, 'Allow me to kill him,' he said, 'And you were doing that. And who knows, perhaps Allah has looked upon the people of Badr and said, 'Do whatever you want.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said on the day of Badr to me and Abu Bakr, "On the right of one of you, there is Jibril, and on the right of the other, there is Mikail, and Israfil is a great angel who witnesses the fight and is in the front line."
