27. Book of the Companions
[Machine] "The Close Sea"
I yearned for Suhail and desired nothing but him among all nations. A bright star knows that when the young Suhail's arrow is steady, I struck with my sharp blade until he bends. I hated myself for such blessings. He said, "Who is his father? Abdullah is his father, and he is from the early emigrants. He witnessed Badr and was a companion to the Prophet ﷺ, and Uthba Al-Asghar." This is what Al-Dhahabi omitted from the summary due to its weakness.
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "The status of one in the path of Allah for an hour is better for him than his entire life with his family." Suhail said, "And I will remain stationed (in the battlefield) until I die and never return to Mecca." So, he remained stationed in the Levant until he died from the plague of ‘Amawas. Indeed, this plague occurred in the Levant in the year eighteen after the Hijrah." Al-Dhahabi excluded it from the summary due to its weakness.
[Machine] "And by Allah, he was well-peaked (referring to the physical appearance of the Prophet Muhammad) and he loved them (referring to his Companions). He had advised them, so Abu Sufyan said, 'I have never seen a day like this before, where slaves are given precedence and we, who are sitting here, are not even looked at.' So Suhayl ibn Amr said, 'Oh, what a wise man he is! O people, I swear by Allah, I can see what is on your faces, so if you are angry, be angry with yourselves. The people have been called and they have responded quickly, while you have lagged behind. By Allah, what they have gone ahead with in terms of virtue in what they see, is harder for you to attain than a gap from your doorway to the goal you are competing for.' Then he said, 'Indeed, these people have surpassed you in what they see, and there is no way for you to catch up with them by Allah. Look at this jihad, and cling to it, perhaps Allah Almighty will bless you with it. Then he shook his garment, got up, and joined the army going to Sham (Greater Syria).' Al-Hasan said, 'By Allah, he spoke the truth. Allah does not make a servant faster in pursuing something than another servant who is slower in reaching it.'" The summarize of this statement was omitted by Al-Dhahabi.

[Machine] "O Messenger of Allah, allow me to remove my two braids, Suhaib ibn 'Amr should never stand as a preacher in his people." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Leave him, perhaps it will please you one day." Sufyan said, when the Prophet ﷺ died, the people of Makkah dispersed, and Suhaib ibn 'Amr stood by the Kaaba and said, "Whoever used to worship Muhammad ﷺ, know that Muhammad has died, but Allah is ever-living and never dies."
