27. Book of the Companions (38/53)
[Machine] As for the two sheikhs, they did not mention anything beyond the virtues. We have started in the first mention of the companion by discussing his lineage and death, then we mentioned what is valid about their conditions from their virtues that they did not mention. So I did not forget to mention Muhammad ibn Umar al-Waqidi and his peers in knowledge.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ sent a man who had embraced Islam on the day of Ashura, and he said, "Whoever has eaten or drank, let him complete his fast, and whoever has not eaten, let him fast for the rest of the day." It has been mentioned before that Asmaa' was the messenger in this narration, and it is also narrated that it was Hind.
[Machine] "Indeed, the Prophet ﷺ sent him on the day of Ashura and he said, 'Command your people to fast on this day.' He asked, 'What if I find them already eating?' The Prophet ﷺ replied, 'Then they should complete their fast until the end of the day.'"
27.231 [Machine] The mention of Sulaiman son of Surad son of Al-Jawn Al-Khuzai
[Machine] "Sulaiman bin Surad bin al-Jawn bin Abi al-Jawn, also known as Abu Mutarif, embraced Islam and was a companion of the Prophet ﷺ. His original name was Yasar, but when he embraced Islam, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ renamed him Sulaiman. He held a high position and honor among his people. He lived in Kufa when the Muslims settled there, and he fought alongside Amir al-Mu'minin Ali in the Battle of Siffin. After that, he left to seek the blood of Imam Hussein bin Ali and under his banner, he led four thousand men. Sulaiman bin Surad was killed in that incident, and his head was carried to Marwan bin al-Hakam. Sulaiman was ninety-three years old at the time of his death."
[Machine] "That Sulaiman ibn Surad killed Ubaidullah ibn Ziyad."
27.232 [Machine] The Mention of Abu Shuraih Al-Khuzai
[Machine] Abu Shurayh Ka'ab ibn Amr al-Khuzaai died in the year sixty-eight and his name is different in it. It has been said that his name is Khwailid ibn Amr.
27.233 [Machine] The mention of Nu'man bin Bashir bin Saad al-Ansari
[Machine] "Nouman bin Bashir bin Saad bin Tha'laba bin Khilas bin Zaid bin Malik Al-Aghar bin Tha'laba bin Ka'b bin Al-Khazraj bin Al-Harith bin Al-Khazraj and his mother was 'Amrah bint Rawaha, the sister of Abd Allah bin Rawaha. Nouman's son was named Abd Allah and he was also known as Abu Abd Allah."
[Machine] We sat with him and he mentioned the first newborn among the Ansar after the arrival of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in Madinah. He said, "Nu'man ibn Bashir was born after the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived in Madinah by a year or less." They mentioned Abdullah ibn Abi Talha, and he said, "If Umm Sulaim had been pregnant with him and gave birth after the arrival in Madinah."
[Machine] I heard Abu Musfir say, "Nu'aman ibn Bashir was killed between Sulamiyya and Hims. He was killed as a warrior."
[Machine] "He fled from Homs and was working there, so he got scared and prayed for the son of Zubair. The people of Homs sought him and killed him and kept his head." This narration has been authenticated in Sahihain by hearing it from Nu'man ibn Bashir from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ."
[Machine] "We accompanied the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and we heard him saying,
'Indeed, before the Hour there will be trials like pieces of the dark night. A man will wake up in the morning as a believer, but by evening he will be a disbeliever. And he will go to sleep as a believer, but wake up as a disbeliever. People will sell their religion for a worldly gain, albeit insignificant.'
Al-Hasan said, 'By Allah, we have seen them with our own eyes; they are like bodies without intellects, like fireflies and locusts. They go out with two Dirhams and return with two Dirhams. One of them sells his religion for the price of a goat.'"
27.234 [Machine] The mention of my father, Waqid Al-Laythi
[Machine] "Abu Waqid Al-Laithi, his name is Al-Harith bin Awf bin Usaid bin Jabir bin Abdah bin Manat bin Yashju'a bin 'Amir bin Laith."
[Machine] I heard Sa'id bin Kathir bin 'Ufair saying, "Abu Waqid Al-Laythi, Al-Harith bin 'Awf bin Usaid bin Jabir bin 'Awthar bin 'Abdinanah bin Yashju'a bin 'Amir was an early Muslim. He had the banner of Banu Layth, Wadhi'marah, and Sa'd bin Bakr on the day of the conquest (of Mecca). Abu Waqid remained after the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for some time, then he went to Mecca, stayed there for a year, and died there."
[Machine] "We returned Laythiy to his illness in which he died, and he died so we buried him in Makkah in the cemetery of the muhajireen with a stone. Indeed, it was named the cemetery of the muhajireen because those who came to Madinah, performed Hajj and stayed there until they died in Makkah were buried in this cemetery. Among them were Abu Waqid al-Laythi, Abdullah ibn Umar, and others. Abu Waqid al-Laythi died in the year sixty-eight when he was eighty-five years old."
[Machine] I was sitting next to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, my knee touching his knee. Then a man came to him, and he swallowed his ear, so the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ changed and blood started to flow to his cheeks. Then he said, "This is Rassul Amr ibn al-Tufayl, threatening me and threatening those who seek refuge with me, while Allah Almighty has sufficed me with the children of Ismail and the bani Qaylah," referring to the Ansar.
[Machine] The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, "Indeed, the people who have high moral values will have stations in Paradise." Al-Dhahabi remained silent about this in his summary.
27.235 [Machine] The mention of Zaid ibn al-Arqam al-Ansari.
[Machine] "Zaid bin Arqam bin Zaid bin Qais bin Nu'man bin Malik bin Al-Aghar bin Tha'laba bin Kaab bin Al-Khazraj, who was also known as Abu Amr, died in Kufa during the time of Al-Mukhtar bin Abi Ubaid in the year eighty-six."
[Machine] The people went out seeking rain, and among them was Zaid bin Arqam. There was only one person between me and him, so I said to him: "O Abu Amr, how many battles did the Prophet ﷺ fight?" He said: "Nineteen." I said: "And how many battles did you fight with him?" He said: "Seventeen."
[Machine] We went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ until we reached Ghadir Khumm. He ordered for a podium to be prepared, and in a day that was hotter than any other day, he thanked and praised Allah and said, "O people, no prophet was sent except that he lived half the lifespan of the prophet who came before him. And surely, I am about to be called, and I will answer. I am leaving behind among you that which if you hold onto, you shall never go astray: the Book of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic." Then he stood and took the hand of Ali and said, "O people, who has more authority over you than yourselves?" They said, "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said, "Am I not more deserving of you than yourselves?" They said, "Yes." He said, "Whoever I am his master, then Ali is his master."
27.236 [Machine] The Mention of Abdullah, son of Abbas, son of Abdul-Muttalib.
[Machine] "The Prophet ﷺ passed away when I was fifteen years old." This is narrated by Ibrahim bin Tahman, Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi, and Al-Walid bin Khalid, on the authority of Shu'bah. As for the narration of Abu Dawud, it is as follows."

[Machine] "I came to the Prophet ﷺ while he was praying late at night. I stood behind him and he took hold of my shoes and stood me up. When he finished his prayer, he asked, 'What is the matter with you? I made you stand while holding my shoes and you became quiet.' I said, 'It is not fitting for anyone to pray in your shoes, O Messenger of Allah.' He was amazed and supplicated to Allah to increase my understanding and knowledge."

[Machine] I accompanied the Messenger of Allah ﷺ one night to the mosque and he performed the last Isha prayer until there was no one left in the mosque except him. He then passed by me and asked, "Who is this?" I replied, "Abdullah." He said, "Welcome." I said, "My father has commanded me to stay with you tonight." He said, "Really?" When he entered, he said, "Make way for the slave of Allah." I brought a cushion made of palm fibers for him. Abbas approached me and said, "Do not sleep until you have memorized his prayer." The Prophet ﷺ approached and slept until I heard him snoring. Then he sat on his bed and raised his head towards the sky and said, "Glory be to the Holy King" three times. Then he recited the following verse from the last part of Surah Al-Imran until the end, "Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth" (Quran 2:164). Then he stood up and performed ablution with his siwak, then he entered his prayer area and performed two units of prayer that were neither too short nor too long. He said, "I prayed" and then performed the Witr prayer. After completing it, I heard him saying, "O Allah, make light in my sight, make light in my hearing, make light in my tongue, make light in my heart, make light on my right, make light on my left, make light in front of me, make light behind me, make light above me, make light below me, and make the day I meet You a light-filled day. [Machine] "That the people of Kufa had recited the Quran in such and such a way, and they praised him. May Allah have mercy on him. So I said, 'Did they differ?' He said, 'Yes.' So I said, 'What made you say that?' He said, 'Alas! How would you know?' I said, 'Because I have read the verse: "And among the people is he whose speech pleases you in worldly life, and he calls Allah to witness as to what is in his heart." [Quran 2:204]until it reached "And Allah does not like corruption." [Quran 2:205] So when they do that, the companion of the Quran does not show patience.' Then I read the verse: "When it is said to him, 'Fear Allah,' pride in the sin takes hold of him. Sufficient for him is Hellfire, and how wretched is the resting place. And there is among the people he who sells himself seeking the pleasure of Allah. And Allah is kind to [His] servants." He said, 'You have spoken the truth, and by the One in Whose hand is my soul...'"

[Machine] "Umar said, 'I see that the Quran has become widespread among the people.' So I said, 'I do not like that, O Amir al-Mu'mineen.' He then pulled his hand away from mine and asked, 'Why did you say that?' I replied, 'Because whenever they recite it, they differ. And whenever they differ, they harm one another.' He then turned away from me and left, and I remained in his presence on a day that only Allah knows. Then His messenger, may peace be upon him, came to me at noon and said, 'Answer the Amir al-Mu'mineen.' So I went to him, and he asked, 'What did you say?' And I repeated my argument. Umar said, 'If I were to keep it hidden from the people...' and then the Dhahabi kept silent in his summary."
