27. Book of the Companions (39/53)

[Machine] As for the two sheikhs, they did not mention anything beyond the virtues. We have started in the first mention of the companion by discussing his lineage and death, then we mentioned what is valid about their conditions from their virtues that they did not mention. So I did not forget to mention Muhammad ibn Umar al-Waqidi and his peers in knowledge.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ was gifted a mare by the king of Persia, which he rode using a hair rope. He then put me behind him and rode with me on the back of the mare, traveling slowly. He turned to me and said, "O young boy." I replied, "Here I am, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Guard Allah, and He will guard you. Guard Allah and you will find Him in front of you. Recognize Allah in times of ease, and He will recognize you in times of difficulty. When you ask, ask Allah. And when you seek help, seek help from Allah. The pens have been lifted and the ink has dried. If the whole world gathered to benefit you with something that Allah has not decreed for you, they would not be able to do so. And if they gathered to harm you with something that Allah has not decreed for you, they would not be able to do so. If you are able to be patient in times of distress, then do so. For indeed, with patience there is relief. And know that with difficulty comes ease."

[Machine] "To me, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ: Preserve Allah, He will preserve you. Preserve Allah, you will find Him in front of you. Know Allah in times of ease, He will know you in times of hardship. And know that what has befallen you was not meant to miss you, and what has missed you was not meant to befall you. And know that if all the creatures were to gather to benefit you, they would not be able to benefit you except with what Allah has already decreed for you. And if they were to gather to harm you, they would not be able to harm you except with what Allah has already decreed against you. So when you ask, ask Allah, and when you seek help, seek help from Allah. And know that victory comes with patience, relief comes with affliction, and alongside hardship, there is ease. And know that the pen has run its course with that which has already been decreed." Issa bin Mohammed Al-Qurashi is not reliable.

[Machine] "Muaawiya woke up as he heard their conversation, then he received the two corners of the Kaaba and Ibn Abbas said to him, 'Verily, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not receive these two corners.' Mu'awiya said, 'O Ibn Abbas, there is nothing from it that is neglected.' So Ibn Abbas became restless, not leaving him whenever he placed his hand on anything from the two corners, except he would say to him, 'That's it.'"

[Machine] I heard Ibn Abbas three days before his death saying, "O Allah, I repent to You for the fatwas I used to give to people regarding exchange transactions."
[Machine] "To have a garden of palm trees and vines, with rivers flowing underneath, and to have every kind of fruit in it." [Al-Baqarah 266] "Then it was struck by a whirlwind, in which there was a fire, and it burned." [Al-Baqarah 266] So, the people asked about it and said, "Who among you would like to have such a garden?" They said, "Allah and His Messenger know better." So, Umar became angry and said, "Say, 'We know' or 'We don't know.'" Ibn Abbas said to himself, "I know something about it, O Commander of the Believers." He said, "O nephew, speak up and do not belittle yourself." Ibn Abbas said, "It is like the deeds of a rich man who does good deeds, but then Allah sends the devil to him, and he starts doing evil deeds until all his good deeds are destroyed. He had a garden that burned down just when he needed it the most, when he had many children and reached old age." He said, "Does anyone of you want to meet Allah on the Day of Resurrection, being the poorest of all his slaves in terms of his deeds, and not having anything to present?"

[Machine] "Glory be to Allah. Say, 'What is revealed to Ibn Abbas?' I said, 'He said, "I heard Ibn Abbas say, 'I heard Ibn Umar say, when the verse 'Verily, We have granted you Al-Kawthar (a river in Paradise)' was revealed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'It is a river in Paradise, its banks are made of gold and it flows over pearls. Its water is whiter than milk and sweeter than honey.'" Then he said, 'By Allah, Ibn Abbas spoke the truth. Indeed, this is abundant goodness from Allah.'"'

27.237 [Machine] The mention of the death of Abdullah ibn Abbas
[Machine] I heard Abu Nuaim saying, "Abdullah Ibn Abbas died in the year sixty-eight."
[Machine] And he said, "The religious clerics of this nation are doomed."
[Machine] Translation: "About it, Al-Dhahabi in summarizing"

[Machine] "He came out of his grave, and when he was buried, this verse was recited on the edge of the grave and it is not known who recited it: 'O soul at peace, return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing. Enter among My servants and enter My Paradise.' [Surah Al-Fajr: 28] Isma'il ibn Ali and Isa ibn Ali mentioned that he was a white bird." (The narrator) Al-Dhahabi remains silent about summarizing it.

[Machine] I heard from Shu'bah, the servant of Ibn Abbas, saying: "Ibn Abbas died in the year sixty-eight in Ta'if, and he was seventy-five years old, and he used to dye his beard."
[Machine] Yazid bin Utbah bin Abi Lahab mentioned the cloud that watered the grave of Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him. The Sea stated that Allah's mercy poured water three times and passed over the grave of Ibn Abbas. He used to inform us of this and we know it with certainty. So whoever is aware and whoever forgets, know that the sky quenches the grave with its mercy. By my life, this is a matter in the hands of the people. If the people had an opinion that they follow during engagements, they would certainly throw stones at Ibn Abbas. For his knowledge is divine and no one is equal to him during the discussions amongst the people. But you throw stones at a sheikh from the tribe of Yaman, who does not know what a fifth is to a sixth."

[Machine] "We, the Ansar, requested Umar or Uthman's ruling regarding the doubt of Ibn Abi Zanad. We walked with Abdullah Ibn Abbas and Nafar, who were companions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ . Ibn Abbas spoke and they discussed the Ansar and their merits, and the governor was demoted. Hassan said it was a difficult matter and we persisted in seeking it. He continued to consult them until they rose and made excuses except for Abdullah ibn Abbas, who said, 'By Allah! The Ansar have an esteemed position. They have indeed supported and sheltered (the Prophet) and their favor has been mentioned.' He also said, 'This is a poet of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ defending him.' Abdullah consistently presented comprehensive arguments that fulfilled all our needs. He found no alternative but to grant our request. He said, 'We left and Allah the Almighty had already granted our request through His words.' I held the hand of Abdullah, praised him, and prayed for him. I passed by the group in the mosque who were with him, but they did not reach the same conclusion. I said to them where they could hear, 'He was the best among you in this matter.' They replied, 'Indeed.' I said to Abdullah, 'By Allah! This is the outpouring of Prophethood and its inheritor, Ahmed ﷺ .' He replied, 'Hassan also indicated towards Abdullah Al-Bahar Al-Tweel, saying that when he spoke, he left no room for anyone else to talk. His words were concise and clear, healing the hearts. He did not leave any ambiguity or doubt in his speech. I listened to it without any difficulty, and I attained its essence without struggle, gaining its benefits without any loss."

[Machine] It is said that he was born in the year of the Camel, at the age of thirty-six. He was the most handsome Qurashi man on earth, and he was the most respected and prayed the most. He was known as As-Sajjad (the one who prostrates frequently). And after him came the caliphate and Abbas, who was his eldest son and was called Muhammad, Obaidullah, Al-Fadl, and Lubaba, their mother was Zir'ah, the daughter of Musarih, the son of Ma'di Karib, the son of Wali'ah. Musarih was one of the four kings, not of the descendants of Abbas, Obaidullah, Al-Fadl, and Muhammad, the sons of Abdullah bin Abbas. As for Lubaba, the daughter of Abdullah bin Abbas, she was under the guardianship of Ali bin Abdullah bin Jafar bin Abu Talib. She gave birth to his children, and their names were Aqab and Asma.

[Machine] Awf ibn Malik al-Ashja'iyy directed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when the Sadaqah was given to him by Abu Bakr as-Siddiq. Abu Bakr said to Awf, "Indeed, Allah the Exalted has bestowed the Sadaqah." Awf asked, "What is the Sadaqah?" Abu Bakr replied, "Forty camels from each forty camels." Awf intercepted and took a camel, but Abu Bakr intercepted him and took a camel for his own journey. Awf said, "This camel is for my journey." Abu Bakr said to him, "It is greater in reward for you, so give its right." Abu Bakr then took the camel and gave its right to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, informing him of Awf's actions and words. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Return to him and inform him that Allah has built a house for him in Jannah."

[Machine] "Awf bin Malik al-Ashja'i witnessed the battle of Khaybar with the Muslims, and he had with him the banner of al-Ashja' on the day of the conquest of Mecca. Then Awf went to Syria during the caliphate of Abu Bakr and settled in Hims, where he remained until the beginning of the caliphate of Abd al-Malik bin Marwan. He died in the year seventy-three and was known by the nickname Abu Amr."

[Machine] "I entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the Battle of Tabuk in the late night while he was in his tent. I greeted him and said, 'May I enter, O Messenger of Allah?' He said, 'Enter.' I asked him if I could bring some food, and he replied, 'Bring all of it.' Then he ﷺ said, 'There are six things that will occur before the Day of Judgment. The first is the death of your Prophet Muhammad. Say, 'One.' I said, 'One.' The second is the conquest of Bayt al-Maqdis (Jerusalem). Say, 'Two.' I said, 'Two.' Then he said, 'The third is the death of two individuals in which you will be affected like the shaking off dead hairs from a sheep skin. Say, 'Three.' I said, 'Three.' He continued saying, 'The fourth is the abundance of wealth among you, to the extent that a person will be given one hundred dinars and will still be discontented. Say, 'Four.' I said, 'Four.' The fifth is a trial that will come upon you until hardly a house, goat, or camel remains that will not be affected by it. Say, 'Five.' I said, 'Five.' And the sixth is a treaty that will be made between you and the Banu Asfar (Romans), and they will gather against you forces like the load of a pregnant she-camel, but then they will break the treaty and attack you with eighty banners, each banner carrying twelve thousand soldiers.' The narration was cut off by Adh-Dhahabi in his summary."

[Machine] Regarding the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ , he said, "My nation will divide into seventy-three sects, the largest of which is a group that causes trials and tribulations for my nation. They make their own opinions the basis for judging matters and they declare what is forbidden to be permissible, and what is permissible to be forbidden." The mention of this hadith was omitted by Al-Dhahabi in his summarization.
27.239 [Machine] The Mention of Abdullah ibn Zubayr ibn Al-Awwam
[Machine] The first born after the migration was Abdullah, the son of Al-Zubair, the son of Al-Awwam, the son of Khawlid, the son of Asad, the son of Abdul Aziz. His mother is Asma bint Abi Bakr As-Siddiq, and her mother is Qaylah bint Abdul Aziz, the daughter of Abdul Asad, the son of Nasr, the son of Malik, the son of Hissl, the son of Amir. Abdullah was also called Abu Bakr.
[Machine] "That the Prophet peace be upon him named Abdullah ibn Zubair Abdullah."
«أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ سَمَّى عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ الزُّبَيْرِ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ»
[Machine] "The history was from the year in which the Prophet ﷺ migrated to Madinah and in which Abdullah Ibn Zubayr was born."
«كَانَ التَّارِيخُ مِنَ السَّنَةِ الَّتِي قَدِمَ فِيهَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ الْمَدِينَةَ وَفِيهَا وُلِدَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ»
[Machine] I was named after my grandfather, Abu Bakr, and I am nicknamed after him. Abdullah had two nicknames, Abu Bakr and Abu Khubayb.
«سُمِّيتُ بِاسْمِ جَدِّي أَبِي بَكْرٍ وَكُنِّيتُ بِكُنْيَتِهِ» وَكَانَ لِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ كُنْيَتَانِ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَأَبُو خُبَيْبٍ
[Machine] Asma, the daughter of Abu Bakr, went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while she was pregnant with Abdullah ibn Zubair. She gave birth to him and then brought him to the Prophet ﷺ to have him suckled. The Prophet ﷺ took him and placed him in his lap, and a date was brought which the Prophet ﷺ crushed, then he chewed it and put it in the baby's mouth to sweeten it. This was the first thing that entered his stomach, the saliva of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . Asma then wiped Abdullah with a cloth and the Prophet ﷺ named him Abdullah. Later, when Abdullah was seven or eight years old, he came to pledge allegiance to the Prophet ﷺ at the command of his father Az-Zubair. When the Prophet ﷺ saw him coming, he smiled and accepted his pledge. Abdullah was the first child to be born in Madinah after the arrival of the Prophet ﷺ . The Jews used to say that they would not be blessed with male offspring in Madinah, but when Abdullah was born, the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ exclaimed in joy. Abdullah ibn Umar ibn Al-Khattab said, upon hearing the celebration in Sham for the birth of Abdullah, "Those who celebrated his birth are better than those who celebrated his death," referring to those who celebrated the killing of Abdullah ibn Zubair.

[Machine] "He was chaste and devout in Islam, his father is Al-Zubayr and his mother is Asmaa. His grandfather is Abu Bakr and his aunt is Khadijah, his grandmother is Safiyya and his other aunt is Aisha. By Allah, I will hold myself accountable for him in a way that I did not hold myself accountable for Abu Bakr or Umar, because he intentionally acted better than all the others." Abu Ali Al-Qabbani said, "By 'Al-Humaydat' he meant Humayd ibn Zuheir ibn Al-Harith ibn Asad ibn Abdul Uzza, and by 'At-Tuwaytat' he meant Tuwayt ibn Habib ibn Asad. Al-Zubayr ibn Al-Awwam ibn Khuwaylid ibn Asad ibn Abdul Uzza" Al-Dhahabi did not mention it in the summary.

[Machine] Kaab narrated to me a story, and I have always found his narratives to be reliable. Except for this particular one, where he told me, "A man from Thaqif will kill me." Al-A’mash said, "And how does he know that Allah will abandon him and hide from him?" Adh-Dhahabi remained silent regarding this matter in his summary.

[Machine] I said, "I have never seen a supplicant like him, nor a worshipper like him, nor have I ever seen anyone who fears Allah like him. And I have never met a person who is more generous than him." Al-Dhahabi did not mention this in his summary.

[Machine] To bring him and it was said to Ibn Zubayr, "Gold shackles will be made for you, and you will wear the garment on top of them and break your oath, and making peace is better." He said, "May Allah not break his oath." Then he said, "And I will not yield except to the truth until the stone becomes soft for the tooth of the biter." Then he said, "By Allah, a strike with a sword in honor is dearer to me than a strike with a whip in humiliation." Then he called to himself and showed disagreement to Yazid ibn Muawiyah, and he ordered Yazid ibn Muawiyah to fight against the people of Medina. When he finished with that, he went to Mecca. Muslim ibn Uqbah al-Muzani was with the army of the people of Sham, and he commanded him to fight the people of Medina. When he finished with that, he went to Mecca. Muslim ibn Uqbah al-Muzani entered Medina and the remaining companions of the Prophet ﷺ fled from him on that day. He played around in Medina, indulged in killing, and then he left. When he was on his way to Mecca, he died and Husein ibn Numair al-Kindi was appointed as his successor. He said to him, "O stubborn donkey, beware of the plots of the Quraysh and do not deal with them except with hypocrisy, then go to Qift and summarize your stay there." So Husein went until he arrived in Mecca and fought against Ibn Zubayr for a few days.

[Machine] "Allah will forgive you three times. By Allah, I only taught you to be a fast observer, steadfast, and to join your family ties. By Allah, I do not hope for anything against you equal to what you have done, that Allah will not punish you forever. Then he turned to me and said, 'I heard Abu Bakr As-Siddiq saying that he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'Whoever does evil will be punished for it in this world.' Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in his summary."

[Machine] Peace be upon you, Abu Khuwailib, who said it three times. I indeed forbade you from doing so three times. You were indeed fasting and observing night prayer, maintaining ties of kinship. He said, "Al-Hajjaj reached the position of Abdullah bin Umar and brought him down, throwing him in the graves of the Jews. He sent a message to Asma bint Abi Bakr to come to him, but she refused as her eyesight had gone. So, he sent her a message saying, 'Either you come to me or I will send someone to drag you by your hair.' She said, 'By Allah, I will not come to you until you send me someone to drag me by my hair.' So, his messenger went to her and informed her of this. She said, 'O boy, take hold of my garment and make me walk until I come to him.' So, he held her garment and she walked, dragging the feet. When she came to him, he asked her, 'How did you see what Allah has done to the enemy of Allah?' She replied, 'I have indeed seen that you have ruined his worldly life and his Hereafter. But as for the one whom you used to insult with regards to her two waistlines, surely I (Asma bint Abu Bakr) had one waistline which I covered with food for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from the ants, and the other waistline was for the women and we cannot do without it.' I have indeed heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Indeed, there is a liar and a troublemaker in Ta'if.' As for the liar, we have seen him, and as for the troublemaker, it is you.' Then he left. The narrations have been authenticated in Musnad through the hearing of Abdullah bin Zubair from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his coming and going to and from him when he was only eight years old. And I remember by the will of Allah the Most High, in this place, his narrations that indicate this. Indeed, the exit (to Madinah) in his Musnad from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is ninety-seven hadiths.
