27. Book of the Companions (3/53)
[Machine] As for the two sheikhs, they did not mention anything beyond the virtues. We have started in the first mention of the companion by discussing his lineage and death, then we mentioned what is valid about their conditions from their virtues that they did not mention. So I did not forget to mention Muhammad ibn Umar al-Waqidi and his peers in knowledge.
[Machine] He (Umar) said: "It is possible that you have made a mistake in assuming, or you are still following your previous religion of the Jahiliyyah (pre-Islamic era). I remember that you used to be their soothsayer." He replied: "I have not seen anything like what happened today, where a Muslim man is being welcomed with such honor." Umar said: "I swear that I will not ask you again if you were their soothsayer in the Jahiliyyah." He said: "So what is so astonishing about what has brought you here?" Then he narrated a lengthy Hadith without any reference. The Hadith is recorded in Sahih al-Bukhari by this chain of narrators.
[Machine] "Indeed, there is a plague in it. So it was said to him, 'O Amir al-Mu'minin, it is not appropriate for you to attack it, as if it were to occur while you are there, you should not leave it.' So he turned back, heading towards the city. While we were traveling at night, he said to me, 'Turn away from the road.' So I turned away and he dismounted from his camel and put his head on its arm and slept, while I could not sleep. Then he said to me, 'What is it with me and them? They turned me away from Sham (Syria).' Then he mounted and I did not ask him anything until I thought I was mixing with the people. I said to him, 'Why did you say what you said when you woke up?' He said, 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'There will be sent forth from between Hims and the Olive trees seventy thousand, without any accountability upon them.' If Allah brings me back from this journey, I will surely bear my family, my people, and my wealth until he lowers Hims.' That is when Ridaan (a companion) was killed."
[Machine] "That the Muslims should establish a place for migration (Hijrah) and a residence for jihad." So Saad sent a man from the Ansar called Al-Harith bin Salama to scout a location in Al-Kufa that day. Saad went there with the people and drew the outline of our mosque and marked it with lines. Al-Sha'bi said, "In Al-Kufa, the tribes of Al-Khuzami, Ash-Shihi, Al-Uqhuwan, and Shaqa'iq Al-Nu'man resided. The Arabs used to call it 'Khadd Al-'Adhra' in the pre-Islamic era." So they returned and wrote to Umar ibn Al-Khattab, who responded, "Leave it." As a result, people moved to Al-Kufa. Al-Haytham bin Adi fell (died).

[Machine] "Al-Kufa is the dome of Islam and the land of trials." Al-Dhahabi did not speak further about it in the summary.
[Machine] His mistress proposed to dye his beard, so he said, "I can only see you extinguishing my light, just as so-and-so extinguishes his light." Al-Dhahabi remained silent in summarizing this.
that 'Umar said to Abu Bakr: "O best of people after the Messenger of Allah ﷺ!" So Abu Bakr said: "If you say that, then I have heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'The sun has not risen upon a man better than 'Umar.'" (Using translation from Tirmidhī 3684)
[Machine] Abdullah, indeed, the most intelligent of people are three: Al-Azeez when he observed Yusuf and said to his wife, "Honor his accommodation." And the woman who saw Musa, peace be upon him, said to her father, "Oh my father, hire him." And Abu Bakr when he appointed Umar as his successor.
27.5 [Machine] The assassination of Umar, in short
[Machine] "Umar was struck on Wednesday for four more nights from the month of Dhu al-Hijjah." Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in his summary.
[Machine] "He ﷺ said on the pulpit, 'Indeed, I saw in a dream as if a rooster had pecked me three times. So I said, 'I am a foreigner' and I have entrusted my affairs to these six people whom the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away while being pleased with – Uthman, Ali, Talhah, Zubair, Abdur-Rahman ibn Awf, and Saad ibn Abi Waqqas. So whoever is chosen from them, he is the caliph.' Adh-Dhahabi remained silent about him in the summary."
[Machine] Oh Amir al-Mu'minin, Mu'awiyah has been too harsh on me, so please ask him to ease up on me." 'Umar said to him, "Fear Allah and be kind to your leader." Mu'awiyah said, "Is it 'Umar's intention to meet me and speak to me about easing up on him?" Abu Lu'luah became angry. His name was Fayroz and he was a Christian. He said, "Everyone's fairness is mine alone?" He became angrier and decided to kill him. He made a dagger with two heads, sharpened it, and poisoned it. 'Umar raised his voice, something he would not normally do during prayer time, and said, "Straighten your rows." He came and stood in the row right behind 'Umar during Fajr prayer. When the prayer was established, he spoke and said, "Straighten your rows." Then he raised his voice and let out a loud cry. He struck 'Umar on his shoulder, then on another spot, and finally in his abdomen. 'Umar fell. He struck thirteen men with him, and seven of them scattered. Six of them died, and 'Umar was carried away. The people did not move until the sun was about to rise. 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Awf called out, "O people, prayer, prayer!" The people rushed to pray. 'Abd al-Rahman went forward and led them in prayer. He recited the shortest two Surahs in the Quran. When he finished, people turned to 'Umar ibn al-Khattab. He called for a drink to examine the wound. They brought him wine, and he drank it. He came out, and no one realized if it was blood or wine. He called for milk, and they brought it to him. He drank it, and the milk flowed out of his wound. They said, "You're fine, O Amir al-Mu'minin." He said, "If death is pain, then I have already died." Al-Dhahabi did not mention this incident in his summary.

[Machine] About Mina in the last pilgrimage, I went to Al-Bathaa and piled up a mound there. Then I threw his garment on it and lied down, stretching his hands towards the sky and said, "O Allah, my old age has increased, my strength has weakened, and my followers have multiplied, so take me to You without being lost or misguided." Then he came in the month of Dhul-Hijjah and addressed the people, saying, "O people, I have established Sunnah for you and imposed obligations on you, and left you on a clear path." He then struck one hand against the other, except if you turn to people right or left." I was not far from Dhul-Hijjah until Umar was killed, and I heard Sa'id ibn al-Musayyab saying, "Abu Lulu'ah, who killed Umar, stabbed him twelve times. Six of them died and six were injured, and he had a knife with two edges, so he stabbed himself and killed himself."

[Machine] "That he was stabbed and then died, so he was washed and shrouded."
[Machine] He was stabbed, so I said, "Rejoice in Paradise, O Commander of the Faithful. You embraced Islam when people disbelieved and you fought alongside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when people abandoned him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away while he was pleased with you, and there was no disagreement regarding your caliphate. You were martyred, and he said, 'Prepare a response for me' and I prepared it for him. He said, 'By Allah, besides whom there is no deity, if I had all the wealth on earth in exchange for avoiding the hardship of Day of Resurrection, I would do it."
that the funeral prayer for Umar was held in the mosque, and Suhayb ؓ led the prayer.
[Machine] When Umar was killed, Ali and Uthman both prepared to offer their prayers for him. So Suhaib said to them, "I greet you on behalf of myself, as I have been entrusted with more of your matters than offering prayers for Umar. And while I pray the obligatory prayers with you, Suhaib offered prayers for him."
[Machine] "Umar performed the Hajj pilgrimage ten times consecutively, including one during the caliphate of Abu Bakr and nine during his own caliphate. He was buried beside Abu Bakr in Aisha's house. His caliphate lasted for ten years, five months, and twenty-nine days."
[Machine] He was stabbed. He said to Abdullah, "Go to Aisha and convey my greetings to her, and say to her, 'Verily, Umar says to you, if it does not harm you nor make things difficult for you, then I would love to be buried with my two companions. But if it harms you or makes things difficult for you, then by Allah, I have been buried in this graveyard with the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the mothers of the believers. Who is better than Umar?' " The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to her and she said, "It does not harm me nor make things difficult for me." He said, "Then bury me with them."
[Machine] "I looked into the grave of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and also the graves of Abu Bakr and Umar, from Aisha's chamber, and I saw red pebbles on them."
[Machine] "If Umar was a strong fortress in which Islam entered and did not leave, then when Umar was affected, the fortress collapsed and Islam left it and did not enter it. When the believers were mentioned, Umar said, 'Salutations to Umar.'"
[Machine] Ali entered upon Umar while he was praying and said, "May peace be upon you." Then he said, "There is no one whom I love more than to meet Allah with what is in this prayer mat of his."
[Machine] "A voice was heard in the mountain of Tabalah when Umar ibn Al-Khattab was killed. It was a long poem to mourn for Islam. Those who were weeping were on the verge of destruction. The covenant was not fulfilled, the world turned away, and its best turned away. Those who believed in the promise were disappointed. They looked, but saw nothing."
[Machine] (Poem) [The Gentle Sea]
The tears of Joudi are a sign and a lament that never ends
Upon the Imam, the cross, she never ceases to weep
Sorrow has overwhelmed me with the knight, the protector,
On the day of turmoil and reproach
It is the safeguard of religion and the helper
Against the passing of time, the rain of the distressed
And the grieving heart
Tell the people in distress and misery, "Die
When sorrow poured upon us like cups of nations"
And Atika also said [The Long Sea]
Fairooz has startled me with a pearl whose like
Could not be found in any pure white book
For he is tender to the lowest but harsh to the enemy
My brother, a trustworthy support in response to supplication
Whenever he says, "My words do not lie,"
His actions quickly move towards goodness,
Unlike those who turn away from it knowingly
This hadith of Thawri is narrated in Sahihain,
But I have mentioned it here with correct letters,

27.6 [Machine] The Virtues of Amir al-Mu'minin Dhu al-Nurayn 'Uthman ibn 'Affan
[Machine] I heard Ali, on the Day of the Camel, saying, "O Allah, I declare to You my innocence from the blood of Uthman. Indeed, my mind was clouded on the day Uthman was killed, and I disapproved of it. They came to me for allegiance, and I said, 'By Allah, I am too shy before Allah to pledge allegiance to a group who have killed a man.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, 'Are you shy of whom the angels are shy?.' And I am indeed shy before Allah to pledge allegiance when Uthman is dead, and his body has not yet been buried.' So they left, and when he was buried, the people returned and asked me for allegiance. I said, 'O Allah, I am apprehensive of what I will do.' Then resolve came to me, and I pledged allegiance. Indeed, they said, 'O Amir al-Mu'minin, it felt as if my heart was splitting.' I said, 'O Allah, take from me for Uthman until You are pleased.'"

[Machine] Uthman bin Affan bin Abi Al-Aas bin Umayah bin Abdul Shams bin Abdul Manaf bin Qusay bin Kilab and Umm Uthman Arwa bint Kareez and Umm Arwa Umm Hakim, and she is Al-Bayda'a, the paternal aunt of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . They differed regarding the kunyah (agnomen) of Uthman. It was said, "Abu Abdullah" and it was said, "Abu Amr". Adh-Dhahabi remained silent about it in his summarization.
[Machine] I heard Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah saying, "Uthman ibn Affan was nicknamed Abu Amr and Abu Abdullah. He was killed in the month of Dhul-Hijjah in the year thirty-five."
[Machine] Uthman ibn Affan was killed when he was either ninety or eighty-eight years old.
ʿUthman ؓ was killed on the eighteenth of Dhul-Hijjah 35 AH, His caliphate lasted twelve years less twelve days. (Using translation from Aḥmad 545)

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ carried the first stone to build the mosque, then Abu Bakr carried another stone, and then Uthman carried another stone. I said, "O Messenger of Allah, do you not see how they are assisting you?" He said, "O Aisha, these are the caliphs after me."
[Machine] "And the allegiance of Uthman was on Monday, the twelfth day of Muharram, in the year four and twenty." This was deleted by Al-Dhahabi in the abridged version.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Let every one of you rise to his true measure." So, the Prophet ﷺ went to Uthman, embraced him, and said, "You are my guardian in this world and the Hereafter."
[Machine] I witnessed Uthman on the day he was besieged in the burial site, and he said to me, "I swear to you by Allah, O Talha, do you remember the day when I and you were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at such and such a place, and there were no companions with him except me and you?" He said to you, "O Talha, indeed, there is no prophet except that he has a companion from his Ummah with him in paradise, and Uthman is my companion and he is with me in paradise." Talha said, "O Allah, yes." Then Talha left.
[Machine] Some of the people said: "Now he claims that you betrayed 'Uthman." He replied: "That is what he says." They told the man to respond to him, so he said: "Did you not understand what I said?" He said: "Yes, I asked you if 'Uthman witnessed the pledge of Ridwan, and you said no. I also asked you if he participated in the Battle of Badr, and you said no. I asked you if he was amongst those whom Satan deceived, and you said yes." He said: "As for the pledge of Ridwan, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up and said, 'Indeed, 'Uthman went forth for the sake of Allah and for the sake of His Messenger's need.' He struck him with an arrow that did not harm anyone else. As for those who turned away on the Day the two armies met, it was only Satan who made them slip because of [some of] what they had earned. But Allah has already forgiven them. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Forbearing."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "One day, you will attack a man wearing a cloak who is giving allegiance to the people of Jannah." So, I attacked Uthman, who was wearing a cloak made of fine wool and giving allegiance to the people.
[Machine] A man asked the Prophet ﷺ , "Is there lightning in Paradise?" He replied, "Yes, by the One in whose hand is my soul, Uthman will move from one house to another and the paradise will lightning for him." If Husayn ibn Ubaydullah has preserved this from Abdul-Aziz ibn Abi Hazim, then it is correct according to the conditions set by the two sheikhs and it is not a fabricated narration.
[Machine] Musa, Muhammad, and Ibrahim, the sons of Uqbah, said, "Our father Abu Ummi said that Abu Hasana said, 'I witnessed Abu Hurairah and Uthman confined in the house, so I sought permission to talk to him. Abu Hurairah said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Indeed, there will be turmoil and disagreements, or disagreements and turmoil." We said, 'O Messenger of Allah, what do you command us to do?' He said, 'Obey the ruler and his companions,' and he pointed towards Uthman."

[Machine] "People wished that Uthman would cause discord. So I said to them, 'May Allah rectify you,' and then they asked me to inform them. I refused to repeat what people were saying. But then I said, 'I saw the Messenger of Allah in my dream last night, and he said, 'You will be witnessing with us on Friday.'"

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Pray for me, or bring me one of my companions." I said, "Abu Bakr?" He said, "No." I said, "Umar?" He said, "No." I said, "Your cousin Ali?" He said, "No." I said, "So, Uthman?" He said, "Yes." Uthman came and the Prophet ﷺ said, "Get up." Then the Prophet ﷺ went to Uthman and his color changed. When it was the Day of the Battle of Ad-Dar, we said, "Won't you fight?" He said, "No, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entrusted me with a matter and I will be patient with it."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Uthman, "Indeed, Allah is dressing you in a garment. If the hypocrites want you to remove it, then do not remove it."
27.7 [Machine] The Killing of Amir al-Mu'minin Uthman ibn Affan
[Machine] And the first thing that a scholar cannot be ignorant of is the knowledge of the reason that led to this, which is the matter of Abdullah bin Saad bin Abi Sarh, who is the cousin of Uthman bin Affan, and Walid bin Uqbah bin Abi Mu'ayt, who is the brother of Uthman's mother. As for Abdullah bin Saad bin Abi Sarh, the authentic narrations speak that he was a scribe for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , but his treachery in writing became apparent, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ dismissed him. He then apostatized from Islam and joined the people of Makkah. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ allowed shedding his blood on the day of the conquest, but he was not killed until Uthman came with him, and he had reconsidered Islam. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ granted him safety and spared his life.

[Machine] "When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ conquered Mecca, the people of Mecca would bring their children to him, and he would wipe his hands over their heads and pray for them. My father took me to him, and I was very handsome in appearance. However, he did not wipe his hands on my head or touch me. The only reason for that was that my mother had created me in a different way. Ahmad ibn Hanbal said, 'It has been narrated that he embraced Islam on that day, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not touch or pray for him. The appearance does not prevent prayer, and this is certainly true for a child in the action of someone else. However, he was prevented by the blessing of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ due to the previous knowledge that Allah the Almighty had regarding him. And Allah knows best.'"
