[Machine] As for the two sheikhs, they did not mention anything beyond the virtues. We have started in the first mention of the companion by discussing his lineage and death, then we mentioned what is valid about their conditions from their virtues that they did not mention. So I did not forget to mention Muhammad ibn Umar al-Waqidi and his peers in knowledge.

[Machine] From Abu Rafi, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he said: I was a young boy under the guardianship of Al-Abbas bin Abdul-Muttalib, and I had embraced Islam, and so had the mother of Al-Fadl and Al-Abbas. Al-Abbas had concealed his Islam out of fear from his people, and Abu Lahab had withdrawn from the battle of Badr and sent Al-'As bin Hisham in his place. Al-'As had a debt to Al-Abbas, so he said to him, "Settle my debt for me and I will fight in this battle on your behalf." So Al-Abbas agreed and settled his debt. When the news of the battle reached us, Allah disgraced Abu Lahab. I was a weak man who used to carve arrowheads in a room, and by Allah, I was sitting in that room carving arrowheads while Umm Al-Fadl was with me. Suddenly, I saw Abu Lahab dragging his feet near the door of the room, and his back was towards me. The people said, "This is Abu Sufyan bin Al-Harith." Abu Lahab said to him, "Come here, O son of my brother." So Abu Sufyan went and sat with him. When the people saw them, they gathered around them. Abu Lahab asked Abu Sufyan, "How did things go with the people?" Abu Sufyan replied, "Nothing, By Allah, if we had met them and they attacked us, they would have killed us as they pleased and captured us as they pleased. By Allah, I have not seen people with white garments on fast horses like them. By Allah, no one could stand against them." Then, I lifted up the door of the room and said, "By Allah, those were angels." Abu Lahab raised his hand and struck me on the face, causing my nose to bleed. He then threw me to the ground, hitting me until I fell down. Umm Al-Fadl stood up and seized him, taking hold of a pillar in the room and struck him with it, causing him to bleed from the head, and she said, "O enemy of Allah, you have weakened him. If you have seen his master absent, he would have stood up humiliated. By Allah, he did not live for more than seven nights until Allah struck him with a swelling, and he died. He left his two sons for two or three nights without burying him until you (Quraysh) did." Then a man from Quraysh said to his two sons, "Are you not ashamed that your father's body is in his house?" They replied, "We fear this wound." Quraysh used to fear this swelling just as they feared the plague. The man said, "I will go with you." They said, "By Allah, they did not wash him except by pouring water on him from a distance. Then they carried him to the highest point in Makkah and threw him over the wall, and then they stoned him." Adh-Dhahabi remained silent about this in his summary.

[Machine] "To throw a stone at the seventy riders from the Ansar who came to visit the Prophet ﷺ , and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to us with his paternal uncle, Abbas, and said, 'O uncle, take revenge for me from your relatives.' Abbas said, 'O Muhammad, ask your Lord and ask for yourself whatever you want.' The Prophet ﷺ said, 'As for what I am asking you for myself, you refrain from giving it to me while refraining from it in regards to your wealth and yourselves.' They asked, 'What will we lose if we do so?' He replied, 'Paradise.' All these narrations are with the same wording, and in the narration of Musa ibn Imran, no one heard it except from him."

[Machine] We, the family of Al-Abbas, embraced Islam and kept our Islam hidden. I was a servant to Al-Abbas, carving cups and utensils. When the Quraysh marched towards the Messenger of Allah on the day of Badr, we anticipated news. The messenger of Allah came and gave us the guarantee of safety through the Khazai'i. We found strength within ourselves and were delighted by the news of the appearance of the Messenger of Allah. By Allah, I was sitting near Zamzam carving cups, and with me was Umm al-Fadl, and we were pleased with the news that came to us about the appearance of the Messenger of Allah. We were informed about the messenger of Allah when the wicked Abu Lahab approached, dragging his legs. Allah humiliated and disgraced him for what he received of the news. He sat on the doorstep and the people gathered around him. Abu Lahab said to him, "Come to me, O son of my brother," and he sat between his hands. He asked him about people and he replied, "Yes, by Allah, if we meet people and give them our support, they put their weapons wherever they wished. But the people we met were men riding on fast horses. By Allah, nothing remained." I raised the doorstep and said, "Those are the angels, by Allah." Abu Lahab raised his hand and struck my face, delivering a blow that blemished me. Umm al-Fadl approached a tent pole from the columns of the tent, grabbed it, said, "You humiliated him, even if his master is absent," and struck him on the head, causing him pain and leaving a mark. He then dragged his legs and was afflicted by an ophthalmia that Allah cast upon him. By Allah, he did not live for more than seven days until he died. His sons left him in his house for three days until he began to decompose. Quraysh feared that ophthalmia and avoided touching his body. A man from Quraysh said to them, "Shame on you, don't you feel ashamed? Your father has decomposed in his house, and you don't bury him." They replied, "We fear the contagion of this wound." The man said, "Go, I will help you." By Allah, they did not wash him except by throwing water from a distance, never approaching him. Then they carried him to the top of Makkah and leaned him against a wall, then stoned him.

Some men of the Ansar requested Messenger of Allah ﷺ to allow them to see him, they said, "Allow us to forgive the ransom of our sister's son, ʿAbbas." The Prophet ﷺ said, "By Allah, you will not leave a single Dirham of it!" (Using translation from Bukhārī 4018)
[Machine] When the people of Mecca came to redeem their captive family members, Zainab, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, was sent to redeem Abu Al-'As. She had a necklace that Khadijah, may Allah be pleased with her, gave to her by which she had entered upon Abu Al-'As when they were married. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw her, he felt immense tenderness towards her and said, "If you agree to give her captive to her and return what belongs to her, then do so." They said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah," and returned what belonged to her, based on the condition of a Muslim.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to show special respect to Al-Abbas, as Allah specifically bestowed this status upon him among the people.
«كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يُجِلُّ الْعَبَّاسَ إِجْلَالَ الْوَلَدِ وَالِدَهُ خَاصَّةً خَصَّ اللَّهُ الْعَبَّاسَ بِهَا مِنْ بَيْنِ النَّاسِ»
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Al-Abbas is from me and I am from him." The chain of narration is authentic and it has not been recorded in Sahih.

[Machine] I was once in the mosque when Abu Jahl approached me and said, "By Allah, if I see Muhammad in prostration, I will step on his neck." So, I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed him of Abu Jahl's words. He became visibly angry and went towards the mosque. I hurried to follow him. He entered the mosque while reciting, "Read in the name of your Lord who created," until he reached the verse, "No! Indeed, man transgresses because he sees himself self-sufficient." (Surah Al-Alaq, verse 7).
A man said to Abu Jahl, "O Abu Hakam, this is Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah." Abu Jahl replied, "Don't you see what I see? By Allah, he has blinded the entire sky for me." When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ reached the end of the surah, he prostrated.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) went out during the time of extreme heat and stayed in a place. The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) got up to perform ablution (washing for prayer). Abbas ibn Abd Al-Muttalib covered him with a woolen garment. Sahl said: "So, I looked at the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) from the side of his garment while he was raising his head towards the sky and saying, 'O Allah, protect Abbas and his offspring from the fire.'"

Then I heard Abbas bin Abdul-Muttalib saying, 'O Messenger of Allah, I want to praise you.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'May Allah not make you vain, so say what you have to say.' Abbas then said, 'Before you, I found myself in the shades and in a place where the leaves are sewn. Then the lands descended, and you are neither a human being, nor a chewed piece of meat, nor a clot of blood, but a sperm which rides the ships while the eagle tries to seize it, and its people drown. It is moved from one container to another until it settles in the womb. When a scholar passed by, he saw a layer, and your secure house was included in it. Hindif (the mother of the Messenger) was beneath it, speaking. And when you were born, the earth shone and illuminated with your light, and the horizons became bright with it. So we are in that light, in that brightness, and we penetrate the ways of righteousness.'"

I was in the company of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the Day of Hunain. I and Abd Sufyan b. Harith b. 'Abd al-Muttalib stuck to the Messenaer of Allah ﷺ and we did not separate from him. And the Messenger of Allah (may place be upon him) was riding on his white mule which had been presented to him by Farwa b. Nufitha al-Judhami. When the Muslims had an encounter with the disbelievers, the Muslims fled, falling back, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ began to spur his mule towards the disbelievers. I was holding the bridle of the mule of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ checking it from going very fast, and Abu Sufyan was holding the stirrup of the (mule of the) Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said: Abbas, call out to the people of al-Samura. Abbas (who was a man with a loud voice) called out at the top of the voice: Where are the people of Samura? (Abbas said: ) And by God, when they heard my voice, they came back (to us) as cows come back to their calves, and said: We are present, we are present! 'Abbas said: They began to fight the infidels. Then there was a call to The Ansar. Those (who called out to them) shouted: O ye party of the Ansar! O party of the Ansar! Banu al-Harith b. al-Khazraj were the last to be called. Those (who called out to them) shouted: O Banu Al-Harith b. al-Khazraj! O BanU Harith b. al-Khazraj! And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ who was riding on his mule looked at their fight with his neck stretched forward and he said: This is the time when the fight is raging hot. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took (some) pebbles and threw them in the face of the infidels. Then he said: By the Lord of Muhammad, the infidels are defeated. 'Abbas said: I went round and saw that the battle was in the same condition in which I had seen it. By Allah, it remained in the same condition until he threw the pebbles. I continued to watch until I found that their force had been spent out and they began to retreat. (Using translation from Muslim 1775a)

[Machine] May Allah bestow His mercy upon Abu Al-Fadl. By Allah, he was a brother of the Prophet Muhammad, and the apple of the eye of the Messenger of Allah. He is the master of the uncles and the cheeks, the ancestor of the ancestors, and the great-grandfather of the descendants. He possesses knowledge of matters, adorned with forbearance, and understanding has elevated him. He earned the support of every supporter and gained followers for his opinion, with his thunderous footsteps. The cheeks unite when his nobility is mentioned, and the lineages diverge when his tribe is mentioned. He is the companion of the household, the cupbearer, the lineage, and the kinship. Why should it not be so? And how could it not be so? The orchestrator of his policies is more honorable than any other orchestrator, and he is wiser than anyone who has risen from the Quraysh.

[Machine] Indeed, Al-Ala ibn Al-Hadrami sent to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from Bahrain with eighty thousand. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not receive any wealth greater than it before or after it. He commanded that it be spread out on a mat, and the call to prayer was made. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came leaning towards the wealth, and the people came and he began to give them from it. There was no count or weight for it on that day, and it was nothing but a taking. Then Al-Abbas came and said: "O Messenger of Allah, I gave my ransom and the ransom of 'Aqil on the day of Badr, and 'Aqil did not have any wealth. Give me from this wealth." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Take." He gathered it in a garment that was on him, then he went away, but was unable to carry it. So he raised his head towards the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: "O Messenger of Allah, raise it for me." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled while saying: "Indeed, anyone whom Allah has promised something has fulfilled it for me. I do not know about the other promise. Say to whomever among the captives you have in your hands: 'If Allah knows any good in your hearts, He will give you better than what was taken from you, and He will forgive you. And this forgiveness is better for me than what was taken from me. And I do not know what will be done with the forgiveness.'" It was narrated to me by Abu Ali Al-Husayn ibn Ali Al-Hafiz, who narrated to us Abdan Al-Ahwazi, who narrated from Al-Husayn ibn Al-Harith Al-Ahwazi, who narrated from Hashim ibn Al-Qasim, who narrated from Sulayman ibn Al-Mughira, from Humaid ibn Hilal, from Abu Burdah, from Abu Musa, that Al-Ala ibn Al-Hadrami sent to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with wealth from Bahrain, and he mentioned the hadith in a similar manner.

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "We will expand the mosque." And your house is near the mosque, so give it to us and we will expand it in the mosque, and I will give you a larger house in return." He said, "I will not do that." The Prophet ﷺ said, "In that case, I will defeat you in it." He said, "That is not for you, so let there be someone who will settle between us according to the truth." He said, "Who is that?" He said, "Hudayfa bin al-Yaman." So they went to Hudayfa and explained the matter to him. Hudayfa said, "I have a report on this." They asked, "What is it?" He said, "Indeed, the Prophet David, may Allah's prayers be upon him, wanted to expand the House of the Sacred Black Stone, which was near the mosque, for an orphan. He requested it from him, but he refused. So David wanted to take it from him, but Allah revealed to him, 'Indeed, the noblest houses are free from injustice to My house.' So he left it. Abbas said to him, 'Is there anything left?' He said, 'No.' Abbas entered the mosque and found a waterway in the mosque of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , through which the rainwater would flow in the mosque of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . Umar took it with his own hands and removed the waterway. Umar said, 'This waterway should not flow in the mosque of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ .' Abbas said to him, 'By the One who sent Muhammad with the truth, it was he who placed the waterway in this place, and it was you, O Umar, who removed it.' Umar said to him, 'Put your feet on my neck to return it to its previous state.' Abbas did so, and then Abbas said, 'I have given you the house to expand it in the mosque of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , so Umar expanded it in the mosque, and then he gave Abbas a house larger than it in Az-Zawra'a."

[Machine] "The dispute over the house of Al-Abbas ibn Abdul-Muttalib happened when they wanted to expand the Prophet's mosque ﷺ, so a discussion arose about the house."
[Machine] I said to Al-Abbas, ask the Prophet ﷺ to appoint you for charity. So, he asked him and the Prophet ﷺ said, "I am not supposed to appoint you for washing away people's sins."
It was narrated from ‘Ali that Al-ʿAbbas bin ʿAbdul-Muttalib asked the Prophet ﷺ about paying zakah in advance and he gave him a concession allowing him to do that. (Using translation from Aḥmad 822)
[Machine] Al-Abbas came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was angry, and he said, "What is the matter with you?" He replied, "O Messenger of Allah, what is the matter with us and the Quraysh?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "What is the matter with you and them?" He said, "Some of them meet each other with shining faces, but when they meet us, they meet us with the opposite." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ became angry until a vein stood out between his eyes. When he calmed down, he said, "By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, faith does not enter the heart of a person until he judges for the sake of Allah and His Messenger." Then he said, "What is wrong with people who harm me in the person of al-Abbas, the uncle of the man who raised me?"
[Machine] I said, O Messenger of Allah, indeed when the Quraysh meet each other, they receive each other with a good greeting, but when they meet us, they meet us with unfamiliar faces. The Messenger of Allah became extremely angry and said, "By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, the heart of a man does not enter the state of true faith until he loves you for the sake of Allah and His Messenger." I have mentioned in the virtues of Ahlul-Bayt of the Messenger of Allah, and I have explained the reasons for this hadith by mentioning Al-Muttalib ibn Rabee'ah and those who dropped it from the chain of narration, which suffices in this context.
[Machine] "He said to Al-Abbas ibn Abdul-Muttalib, 'The best of this nation and the inheritor of the Prophet and his uncle.'"

[Machine] The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said, "Allah advised me to be kind to my relatives and commanded me to start with Al-Abbas." Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in summarizing.
[Machine] "O Allah, this is the uncle of your Prophet, Al-Abbas. We turn to you through him, so quench our thirst. They did not relent until Allah gave them water." Umar addressed the people saying, "O people, the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, used to have a special regard for his uncle Al-Abbas, just as a child has for his father. He would honor him, exalt his status, and be generous to him. So, O people, follow the example of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, in his uncle Al-Abbas and consider him a means to Allah Almighty in what he has bestowed upon you."

[Machine] Abdullah, the son of Al-Arqam, the son of Abd Yaguth, the son of Ahayb, the son of Abdimanaf, the son of Zuhrah. His mother was Amrah, the daughter of Al-Arqam, the son of Hashim, the son of Abdimanaf. He became blind before his death and passed away in the year thirty-five.

[Machine] "And he was a scribe for the Prophet ﷺ, as well as Abu Bakr and Umar."
«وَكَانَ كَاتِبًا لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ ؓ »
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ received a letter from a man, so he said to Abdullah ibn Arqam, "Answer me." He wrote his response and then read it to him. He said, "You are right, and you did well. O Allah, grant him success." When Umar became the Caliph, he used to consult him.

"The Messenger of Allah said: 'If anyone of you needs to defecate and the immediate call to prayer (Iqamah) is given, let him start with (relieving himself).'" (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 616)

[Machine] Regarding Ibn Ishaq, "In the names of those who witnessed Badr and Al-Aqaba from the tribe of Jusham bin Al-Harith, and Zaid bin Al-Harith, both of whom were twins. Abdullah bin Zaid bin Abd Rabih bin Tha'alaba, who was the one who heard the call to prayer and brought it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , so he commanded him with it."

[Machine] Regarding Uruwah, "Regarding those who witnessed the Battle of Badr and the 'Aqaba from the Banu Jusham ibn Al-Harith and Zaid ibn Al-Harith, who were twins, Abdallah ibn Zaid ibn Abd Rabbih ibn Tha'laba ibn Zaid ibn Al-Harith ibn Al-Khazraj, and his brother Harith ibn Zaid, and Abdallah ibn Zaid is the one who was shown the call to prayer."
[Machine] "Abdullah ibn Zaid ibn Abd Rabih ibn Tha'labah ibn Zaid ibn Al-Harith, who was also known as Abu Muhammad, witnessed Abdullah ibn Zaid among the Ansar, seventy people, on the night of Al-Aqaba in the narration of all of them. He also witnessed the battles of Badr, Uhud, the Trench, and all other events with the Messenger of Allah. He carried the flag of Bani Al-Harith ibn Al-Khazraj in the Battle of Al-Fath. The call to prayer that is accepted by the scholars of Islam was recited by him. It is not mentioned in the authentic books due to the disagreement of the narrators in its chains. The most reliable narration is that of Sa'id ibn Al-Musayyib. Some of our imams assumed that Sa'id did not live long enough to be a contemporary of Abdullah ibn Zaid, but that is not correct. Sa'id ibn Al-Musayyib mediated between Ali and Uthman. Abdullah ibn Zaid died at the end of Uthman's caliphate. The narration of Al-Zuhri through Sa'id ibn Al-Musayyib is well-known and it was narrated by Yunus ibn Yazid, Ma'mar ibn Rashid, Shu'ayb ibn Abi Hamza, Muhammad ibn Ishaq, and others. As for the reports from the people of Kufa in this matter, they are based on the narration of Abdul Rahman ibn Abi Layla. Some of them attributed it to Mu'adh ibn Jabal or Abdullah ibn Zaid. As for the descendants of Abdullah ibn Zaid narrating from their fathers about him, their chains are not considered strong. Abdullah ibn Zaid has transmitted this hadith from the Messenger of Allah."

27.117 [Machine] The virtues of Abu Darda'a Uwaimir ibn Zaid al-Ansari
[Machine] About Islam, when he saw that he had left his house, he opposed him. So he entered his house and urged his wife, as she was combing her hair, and he said, "Where is Abu Darda?" She said, "Your brother left suddenly and entered his house where the idol was, and with him was the qudm. He brought it down and began consecrating it repeatedly, secretly reciting names of all the devils, knowing that everything worshipped beside Allah is false. Then he left, and I heard his wife hear the sound of the qudm while he was striking that idol. She said, "You have ruined me, O son of Rawaha!" So he went out without anything until Abu Darda returned to his house. He entered and found the woman sitting, shedding tears of pity for him. He said, "What is your matter?" She said, "Your brother Abdullah bin Rawaha came to me and did what you see, so you became extremely angry." He then thought to himself, "If he had any good in him, he would have defended himself." So he set out until he reached the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, and Abdullah bin Rawaha was with him. He embraced Islam, and it is said that the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, looked at Abu Darda, and the people were defeated, each face on the day of Uhud. He said, "What a great knight Umayr is," except that he meant through other than what is transmitted. Ibn Umar said, "I heard someone mention that Abu Darda did not witness Uhud, although he was one of the companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, and he witnessed many scenes with him." Ibn Umar said, "Abu Darda died in Damascus in the year thirty-two during the caliphate of Uthman bin Affan."

[Machine] He is called Abu Ishaq al-Ajrab, a servant of the Banu Habbar branch of the Quraysh tribe. He said, "I saw Abu Al-Darda Uwaymir ibn Qays ibn Khunasa, the companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, with dyed reddish-yellow hair. I saw him wearing a small patched garment and he had a folded turban on his shoulders." Al-Abbas said, "I heard a man who was with me say to him, 'How long have you known him?' He replied, 'I have known him for over 100 years.' He said, 'He used to wear two socks and sandals.' He said, 'He came to Abu Ishaq about twenty to one hundred years ago.'"

27.118 [Machine] The mention of the virtues of Abu Dharr Al-Ghifari
[Machine] Abu Dhar Jundub ibn Junadah, and it is said Yazid ibn Junadah, passed away in Arrabadah in the year twenty-two and thirty. They had a disagreement about who prayed upon him, and it was said Abdullah ibn Mas'ud and it was also said Jarir ibn Abdullah Al-Bajali.
[Machine] Abu Dhar had with him a group of people. He said, "Indeed, I have experienced everything that you see of death, and if I had a garment that could shroud me or my companion, I would not be shrouded in anything other than that. And I swear to you, none of you should shroud me, whether he is a noble, a chief, a prince, or a messenger." The people were of high rank, among them was Hudhur and Malik Al-Ishtaru, and in this group there was a man from the Ansar. Everyone in the group had reached a certain position except the Ansari man. He said, "I will shroud you in my two cloaks, which I have kept as a trust from my mother, who wove them for me until she died. Abu Dhar said, "That is enough for me." Adh-Dhahabi remained silent about this in his summarization.
