٢٧۔ كِتَابُ مَعْرِفَةِ الصَّحَابَةِ ؓ ص ٢٢
[Machine] As for the two sheikhs, they did not mention anything beyond the virtues. We have started in the first mention of the companion by discussing his lineage and death, then we mentioned what is valid about their conditions from their virtues that they did not mention. So I did not forget to mention Muhammad ibn Umar al-Waqidi and his peers in knowledge.
أَمَّا الشَّيْخَانِ فَإِنَّهُمَا لَمْ يَزِيدَا عَلَى الْمَنَاقِبِ، وَقَدْ بَدَأْنَا فِي أَوَّلِ ذِكْرِ الصَّحَابِيِّ بِمَعْرِفَةِ نَسَبِهِ وَوَفَاتِهِ، ثُمَّ بِمَا يَصِحُّ عَلَى شَرْطِهِمَا مِنْ مَنَاقِبِهِ مِمَّا لَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ فَلَمْ أَسْتَغْنِ عَنْ ذِكْرِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُمَرَ الْوَاقِدِيِّ وَأَقْرَانِهِ فِي الْمَعْرِفَةِ
وَيُقَالُ اسْمُهُ يَزِيدُ
«أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ سَمَّاهُ بِهِ»
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said to Abu Dharr, "How are you, O Yazid?" in a long Hadith.
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ لِأَبِي ذَرٍّ «كَيْفَ بِكَ يَا يَزِيدُ» فِي حَدِيثٍ طَوِيلٍ
Ibn ʿAbbas said to us, "Shall I tell you the story of Abu Dhar's conversion to Islam?" We said, "Yes." He said, "Abu Dhar said: I was a man from the tribe of Ghifar. We heard that a man had appeared in Mecca, claiming to be a Prophet. ! said to my brother, 'Go to that man and talk to him and bring me his news.' He set out, met him and returned. I asked him, 'What is the news with you?' He said, 'By Allah, I saw a man enjoining what is good and forbidding what is evil.' I said to him, 'You have not satisfied me with this little information.' So, I took a waterskin and a stick and proceeded towards Mecca. Neither did I know him (i.e. the Prophet ﷺ ), nor did I like to ask anyone about him. I Kept on drinking Zam zam water and staying in the Mosque. Then ʿAli passed by me and said, 'It seems you are a stranger?' I said, 'Yes.' He proceeded to his house and I accompanied him. Neither did he ask me anything, nor did I tell him anything. Next morning I went to the Mosque to ask about the Prophet but no-one told me anything about him. ʿAli passed by me again and asked, 'Hasn't the man recognized his dwelling place yet' I said, 'No.' He said, 'Come along with me.' He asked me, 'What is your business? What has brought you to this town?' I said to him, 'If you keep my secret, I will tell you.' He said, 'I will do,' I said to him, 'We have heard that a person has appeared here, claiming to be a Prophet. I sent my brother to speak to him and when he returned, he did not bring a satisfactory report; so I thought of meeting him personally.' ʿAli said (to Abu Dhar), 'You have reached your goal; I am going to him just now, so follow me, and wherever I enter, enter after me. If I should see someone who may cause you trouble, I will stand near a wall pretending to mend my shoes (as a warning), and you should go away then.' ʿAli proceeded and I accompanied him till he entered a place, and I entered with him to the Prophet ﷺ to whom I said, 'Present (the principles of) Islam to me.' When he did, I embraced Islam 'immediately. He said to me, 'O Abu Dhar! Keep your conversion as a secret and return to your town; and when you hear of our victory, return to us. ' I said, 'By H him Who has sent you with the Truth, I will announce my conversion to Islam publicly amongst them (i.e. the infidels),' Abu Dhar went to the Mosque, where some people from Quraish were present, and said, 'O folk of Quraish ! I testify that None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, and I (also) testify that Muhammad is Allah's Slave and His Apostle.' (Hearing that) the Quraishi men said, 'Get at this Sabi (i.e. Muslim) !' They got up and beat me nearly to death. Al ʿAbbas saw me and threw himself over me to protect me. He then faced them and said, 'Woe to you! You want to kill a man from the tribe of Ghifar, although your trade and your communications are through the territory of Ghifar?' They therefore left me. The next morning I returned (to the Mosque) and said the same as I have said on the previous day. They again said, 'Get at this Sabi!' I was treated in the same way as on the previous day, and again Al-Abbas found me and threw himself over me to protect me and told them the same as he had said the day before.' So, that was the conversion of Abu Dhar (may Allah be Merciful to him) to Islam." (Using translation from Bukhārī 3522)
أَبُو ذَرٍّ كُنْتُ رَجُلًا مِنْ غِفَارٍ فَبَلَغَنَا أَنَّ رَجُلًا خَرَجَ بِمَكَّةَ يَزْعُمُ أَنَّهُ نَبِيٌّ فَقُلْتُ لِأَخِي انْطَلِقْ إِلَى هَذَا الرَّجُلِ فَكَلِّمْهُ وَائْتِنِي بِخَبَرِهِ فَانْطَلَقَ فَلَقِيَهُ ثُمَّ رَجَعَ فَقُلْتُ مَا عِنْدَكَ؟ فَقَالَ وَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَجُلًا يَأْمُرُ بِالْخَيْرِ وَيَنْهَى عَنِ الشَّرِّ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ لَمْ يَشْفِنِي مِنَ الْخَبَرِ قَالَ فَأَخَذْتُ جِرَابًا وَعَصَا ثُمَّ أَقْبَلْتُ إِلَى مَكَّةَ فَجَعَلْتُ لَا أَعْرِفُهُ وَأَكْرَهُ أَنْ أَسْأَلَ عَنْهُ وَأَشْرَبُ مِنْ مَاءِ زَمْزَمَ وَأَكُونُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ قَالَ فَمَرَّ بِي عَلِيٌّ فَقَالَ كَأَنَّ الرَّجُلَ غَرِيبٌ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَانْطَلَقَ إِلَى الْمَنْزِلِ فَانْطَلَقْتُ مَعَهُ لَا يَسْأَلُنِي عَنْ شَيْءٍ وَلَا أُخْبِرُهُ قَالَ ثُمَّ لَمَّا أَصْبَحْتُ غَدَوْتُ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ لِأَسْأَلَ عَنْهُ وَلَيْسَ أَحَدٌ يُخْبِرُنِي عَنْهُ بِشَيْءٍ فَمَرَّ بِي عَلِيٌّ فَقَالَ أَمَا إِنَّ لِلرَّجُلِ أَنْ يَعْرِفَ مَنْزِلَهُ بَعْدُ؟ قَالَ قُلْتُ لَا قَالَ انْطَلِقْ مَعِي فَقَالَ مَا أَقْدَمَكَ هَذِهِ الْبَلْدَةَ؟ قُلْتُ لَهُ إِنْ كَتَمْتَ عَلَيَّ أَخْبَرْتُكَ؟ قَالَ فَإِنِّي أَفْعَلُ قُلْتُ لَهُ بَلَغَنَا أَنَّهُ خَرَجَ مِنْ هَا هُنَا رَجُلٌ يَزْعُمُ أَنَّهُ نَبِيٌّ فَأَرْسَلْتُ أَخِي لِيُكَلِّمَهُ فَرَجَعَ وَلَمْ يَشْفِنِي مِنَ الْخَبَرِ فَأَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَلْقَاهُ قَالَ أَمَا إِنَّكَ قَدْ رَشَدْتَ هَذَا وَجْهِي فَاتَّبِعْنِي وَادْخُلْ حَيْثُ أَدْخَلُ فَإِنِّي إِنْ رَأَيْتُ أَحَدًا أَخَافَهُ عَلَيْكَ قُمْتُ إِلَى الْحَائِطِ أُصْلِحُ نَعْلِي وَامْضِ أَنْتَ قَالَ فَمَضَى وَمَضَيْتُ مَعَهُ حَتَّى دَخَلَ وَدَخَلْتُ مَعَهُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَعْرِضْ عَلَيَّ الْإِسْلَامَ فَعَرَضَ عَلَيَّ الْإِسْلَامَ فَأَسْلَمْتُ مَكَانِي قَالَ فَقَالَ لِي «يَا أَبَا ذَرٍّ اكْتُمْ هَذَا الْأَمْرَ وَارْجِعْ إِلَى بَلَدِكَ فَإِذَا بَلَغَكَ ظُهُورُنَا فَأَقْبِلْ» قَالَ فَقُلْتُ وَالَّذِي بَعَثَكَ بِالْحَقِّ لَأَصْرُخَنَّ بِهَا بَيْنَ أَظْهُرِهِمْ فَجَاءَ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ وَقُرَيْشٍ فِيهِ فَقَالَ يَا مَعْشَرَ قُرَيْشٍ أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ فَقَالُوا قُومُوا إِلَى هَذَا الصَّابِئِ فَقَامُوا فَضُرِبْتُ لِأَمُوتَ فَأَدْرَكَنِي الْعَبَّاسُ فَأَكَبَّ عَلَيَّ ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ عَلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ وَيْلَكُمْ تَقْتُلُونَ رَجُلًا مِنْ بَنِي غِفَارٍ وَمَتْجَرُكُمْ وَمَمَرُّكُمْ عَلَى غِفَارٍ فَأَقْلَعُوا عَنِّي فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحْتُ الْغَدَ رَجَعْتُ فَقُلْتُ مِثْلَ مَا قُلْتُ بِالْأَمْسِ فَقَالُوا قُومُوا إِلَى هَذَا الصَّابِئِ فَأَدْرَكَنِي الْعَبَّاسُ فَأَكَبَّ عَلَيَّ وَقَالَ مِثْلَ مَقَالَتِهِ بِالْأَمْسِ فَكَانَ أَوَّلُ إِسْلَامِ أَبِي ذَرٍّ
إِنَّ أَوَّلَ مَا دَعَانِي إِلَى الْإِسْلَامَ إِنَّا كُنَّا قَوْمًا غُرَبَاءَ فَأَصَابَتْنَا السَّنَةُ فَأَحْمَلْتُ أُمِّي وَأَخِي وَكَانَ اسْمُهُ أُنَيْسًا إِلَى أَصْهَارٍ لَنَا بِأَعْلَى نَجْدٍ فَلَمَّا حَلَلْنَا بِهِمْ أَكْرَمُونَا فَلَمَّا رَأَى ذَلِكَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْحَيِّ مَشَى إِلَى خَالِي فَقَالَ تَعْلَمُ أَنَّ أُنَيْسًا يُخَالِفُكَ إِلَى أَهْلِكَ قَالَ فَخَفِقَ فِي قَلْبِهِ فَانْصَرَفْتُ فِي رَعِيَّةِ إِبِلِي فَوَجَدْتُهُ كَئِيبًا حَزِينًا يَبْكِي فَقُلْتُ مَا أَبْكَاكَ يَا خَالُ؟ فَأَعْلَمَنِي الْخَبَرَ فَقُلْتُ حَجَزَ اللَّهُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ إِنَّا نَخَافُ الْفَاحِشَةَ وَإِنْ كَانَ الزَّمَانُ قَدْ أَخَلَّ بِنَا وَلَقَدْ كَدَّرْتَ عَلَيْنَا صَفْوَ مَا ابْتَدَأْتَنَا بِهِ وَلَا سَبِيلَ إِلَى اجْتِمَاعٍ فَاحْتَمَلْتُ أُمِّي وَأَخِي حَتَّى نَزَلْنَا بِحَضْرَةِ مَكَّةَ فَقَالَ أَخِي إِنِّي رَجُلٌ مُدَافِعٌ عَلَى الْمَاءِ بِشِعْرٍ وَكَانَ رَجُلًا شَاعِرًا فَقُلْتُ لَا تَفْعَلْ فَخَرَجَ بِهِ اللَّجَاجُ حَتَّى دَافَعَ جُرَيْجَ بْنَ الصِّمَّةِ إِلَى صِرْمَتِهِ وَايْمُ اللَّهِ لَجُرَيْجٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَشْعَرُ مِنْ أَخِي فَتَقَاضَيَا إِلَى خِبَاءَ فَفَضَّلَتْ أَخِي عَلَى جُرَيْجٍ وَذَلِكَ أَنَّ جُرَيْجًا خَطَبَهَا إِلَى أَبِيهَا فَقَالَتْ شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ لَا حَاجَةَ لِي فِيهِ فَحَقَدَتْ عَلَيْهِ فَضَمَمْنَا صِرْمَتَهُ إِلَى صِرْمَتِنَا فَكَانَتْ لَنَا هَجْمَةٌ قَالَ ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُ مَكَّةَ فَابْتَدَأْتُ بِالصَّفَا فَإِذَا عَلَيْهَا رِجَالَاتُ قُرَيْشٍ وَلَقَدْ بَلَغَنِي أَنَّ بِهَا صَابِئًا أَوْ مَجْنُونًا أَوْ شَاعِرًا أَوْ سَاحِرًا فَقُلْتُ أَيْنَ هَذَا الَّذِي تَزْعُمُونَهُ؟ فَقَالُوا هَا هُوَ ذَاكَ حَيْثُ تَرَى فَانْقَلَبْتُ إِلَيْهِ فَوَاللَّهِ مَا جُزْتُ عَنْهُمْ قِيدَ حَجَرٍ حَتَّى أَكَبُّوا عَلَيَّ كُلَّ عَظْمٍ وَحَجَرٍ وَمَدَرٍ فَضَرَّجُونِي بِدَمِي وَأَتَيْتُ الْبَيْتَ فَدَخَلْتُ بَيْنَ السُّتُورِ وَالْبِنَاءِ وَصُمْتُ فِيهِ ثَلَاثِينَ يَوْمًا لَا آكُلُ وَلَا أَشْرَبُ إِلَّا مِنْ مَاءِ زَمْزَمَ حَتَّى كَانَتْ لَيْلَةٌ قَمْرَاءُ إِضْحِيَانٌ أَقْبَلَتِ امْرَأَتَانِ مِنْ خُزَاعَةَ طَافَتَا بِالْبَيْتِ ثُمَّ ذَكَرَتَا إِسَافًا وَنَائِلَةَ وَهُمَا وَثَنَانِ كَانُوا يَعْبُدُونَهُمَا فَأَخْرَجْتُ رَأْسِي مِنْ تَحْتِ السُّتُورِ فَقُلْتُ احْمِلَا أَحَدَهُمَا عَلَى صَاحِبِهِ فَغَضِبَتَا ثُمَّ قَالَتَا أَمَا وَاللَّهِ لَوْ كَانَتْ رِجَالُنَا حُضُورًا مَا تَكَلَّمْتَ بِهَذَا ثُمَّ وَلَّتَا فَخَرَجْتُ أَقْفُو آثَارَهُمَا حَتَّى لَقِيَتَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «مَا أَنْتُمَا وَمِنْ أَيْنَ أَنْتُمَا؟ وَمِنْ أَيْنَ جِئْتُمَا؟ وَمَا جَاءَ بِكُمَا؟» فَأَخْبَرَتَاهُ الْخَبَرَ فَقَالَ «أَيْنَ تَرَكْتُمَا الصَّابِئَ؟» فَقَالَتَا تَرَكْنَاهُ بَيْنَ السُّتُورِ وَالْبِنَاءِ فَقَالَ لَهُمَا «هَلْ قَالَ لَكُمَا شَيْئًا؟» قَالَتَا نَعَمْ وَأَقْبَلْتُ حَتَّى جِئْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ ثُمَّ سَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ «مَنْ أَنْتَ؟ وَمِمَّنْ أَنْتَ؟ وَمِنْ أَيْنَ أَنْتَ؟ وَمِنْ أَيْنَ جِئْتَ؟ وَمَا جَاءَ بِكَ؟» فَأَنْشَأْتُ أُعْلِمُهُ الْخَبَرَ فَقَالَ «مِنْ أَيْنَ كُنْتَ تَأْكُلُ وَتُشْرَبُ؟» فَقُلْتُ مِنْ مَاءِ زَمْزَمَ فَقَالَ «أَمَا إِنَّهُ لَطَعَامُ طُعْمٍ» وَمَعَهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ائْذَنْ لِي أَنْ أُعَشِّيَهُ قَالَ نَعَمْ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَمْشِي وَأَخَذَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ بِيَدِي حَتَّى وَقَفَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِبَابِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ثُمَّ دَخَلَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ بَيْتَهُ ثُمَّ أَتَى بِزَبِيبٍ مِنْ زَبِيبِ الطَّائِفِ فَجَعَلَ يُلْقِيهِ لَنَا قَبْضًا قَبْضًا وَنَحْنُ نَأْكُلُ مِنْهُ حَتَّى تَمْلَأَنَا مِنْهُ فَقَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «يَا أَبَا ذَرٍّ» فَقُلْتُ لَبَّيْكَ فَقَالَ لِي «إِنَّهُ قَدْ رُفِعَتْ لِي أَرْضٌ وَهِيَ ذَاتُ مَالٍ وَلَا أَحْسَبُهَا إِلَّا تِهَامَةَ فَاخْرُجْ إِلَى قَوْمِكَ فَادْعُهُمْ إِلَى مَا دَخَلْتَ فِيهِ» قَالَ فَخَرَجْتُ حَتَّى أَتَيْتُ أُمِّي وَأَخِي فَأَعْلَمْتُهُمُ الْخَبَرَ فَقَالَا مَا لَنَا رَغْبَةٌ عَنِ الدِّينِ الَّذِي دَخَلْتَ فِيهِ فَأَسْلَمَا ثُمَّ خَرَجْنَا حَتَّى أَتَيْنَا الْمَدِينَةَ فَأَعْلَمْتُ قَوْمِي فَقَالُوا إِنَّا قَدْ صَدَقْنَاكَ وَلَعَلَّنَا نَلْقَى مُحَمَّدًا ﷺ فَلَمَّا قَدِمَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَقِينَاهُ فَقَالَتْ لَهُ غِفَارٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أَبَا ذَرٍّ أَعْلَمَنَا مَا أَعْلَمْتَهُ وَقَدْ أَسْلَمْنَا وَشَهِدْنَا أَنَّكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ ثُمَّ تَقَدَّمَتْ أَسْلَمُ وَخُزَاعَةُ فَقَالَتَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّا قَدْ أَسْلَمْنَا وَدَخَلْنَا فِيمَا دَخَلَ فِيهِ إِخْوَانُنَا وَحُلَفَاؤُنَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «أَسْلَمُ سَالَمَهَا اللَّهُ وَغِفَارٌ غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَهَا» ثُمَّ أَخَذَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ بِيَدِي فَقَالَ يَا أَبَا ذَرٍّ فَقُلْتُ لَبَّيْكَ يَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ فَقَالَ هَلْ كُنْتَ تَأْلَهُ فِي جَاهِلِيَّتِكَ؟ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنِي أَقُومُ عِنْدَ الشَّمْسِ فَلَا أَزَالُ مُصَلِّيًا حَتَّى يُؤْذِيَنِي حَرُّهَا فَأَخَرُّ كَأَنِّي خِفَاءٌ فَقَالَ لِي فَأَيْنَ كُنْتَ تَوَجَّهُ؟ قُلْتُ لَا أَدْرِي إِلَّا حَيْثُ وَجَّهَنِي اللَّهُ حَتَّى أَدْخَلَ اللَّهُ عَلَيَّ الْإِسْلَامَإسناده صالح
[Machine] Abu Dharr used to say, "I indeed have witnessed that a quarter of Islam had embraced Islam before me, and they were none other than the Prophet ﷺ, Abu Bakr, and Bilal."
كَانَ أَبُو ذَرٍّ يَقُولُ «لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنِي رُبْعَ الْإِسْلَامِ لَمْ يُسْلِمْ قَبْلِي إِلَّا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ وَبِلَالٌ»
[Machine] "I was a quarter of Islam, three people had embraced Islam before me and I was the fourth. I came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, 'Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah. I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.' Then I saw the Prophet's face brighten up with happiness as a condition of a Muslim."
كُنْتُ رُبْعَ الْإِسْلَامِ أَسْلَمَ قَبْلِي ثَلَاثَةُ نَفَرٍ وَأَنَا الرَّابِعُ أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ فَرَأَيْتُ الِاسْتِبْشَارَ فِي وَجْهِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ على شرط مسلم
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Neither the sand-colored nor the verdant will be lessened by someone who speaks more truthfully and more faithfully than Abu Dharr, the companion resembling Jesus son of Mary." Then, Umar ibn al-Khattab stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah, shall we recognize this for him?" He said, "Yes, recognize it for him."
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «مَا تُقِلُّ الْغَبْرَاءُ وَلَا تُظِلُّ الْخَضْرَاءُ مِنْ ذِي لَهْجَةٍ أَصْدَقَ وَلَا أَوْفَى مِنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ شَبِيهِ عِيسَى ابْنِ مَرْيَمَ» فَقَامَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَنَعْرِفُ ذَلِكَ لَهُ قَالَ «نَعَمْ فَاعْرِفُوهُ لَهُ»

٢٧۔١١٩ أَمَّا حَدِيثُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو
[Machine] "I heard the Prophet ﷺ say, 'The greenery has not shaded or the dust lessened upon a man with more truthful speech than Abu Dharr.'" Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in his summary.
سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَا أَظَلَّتِ الْخَضْرَاءُ وَلَا أَقَلَّتِ الْغَبْرَاءُ عَلَى رَجُلٍ أَصْدَقَ لَهْجَةً مِنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ» سكت عنه الذهبي في التلخيص

٢٧۔١٢٠ وَأَمَّا حَدِيثُ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, "Nothing darkens the greenery nor reduces the dust more than the truthful tongue of Abu Dharr." Adh-Dhahabi remained silent about it in his summary.

27.121 [Machine] The crisis of Abu Dharr
٢٧۔١٢١ مِحْنَةُ أَبِي ذَرٍّ ؓ
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said: "The toughest trials are for the prophets, then the scholars, then those who resemble them (in knowledge or righteousness), then those who resemble them."
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ «أَشَدُّ النَّاسِ بَلَاءً الْأَنْبِيَاءُ ثُمَّ الْعُلَمَاءُ ثُمَّ الْأَمْثَلُ فَالْأَمْثَلُ»
[Machine] The messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Abu Dharr, how do you act when you are among the common folk?" He then intertwined his fingers and I said, "O messenger of Allah, what do you order me to do?" He said, "Be patient, be patient, be patient. Deal with people according to their manners and go against them in their actions."
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «يَا أَبَا ذَرٍّ كَيْفَ أَنْتَ إِذَا كُنْتَ فِي حُثَالَةٍ؟» وَشَبَّكَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَمَا تَأْمُرُنِي؟ قَالَ «اصْبِرْ اصْبِرْ اصْبِرْ خَالِقُوا النَّاسَ بِأَخْلَاقِهِمْ وَخَالِفُوهُمْ فِي أَعْمَالِهِمْ»
[Machine] Narrated from the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, he said: "As the end of time approaches, the wearing of the Ta'alisah will increase, trade will increase, wealth will increase, and people will greatly value money. Immorality will become widespread, the rule of youngsters will prevail, women will increase, and the neighbors of the ruler will become oppressive. Measures and scales will be tampered with, and a person will find more benefit in raising a dog rather than raising his own child. The elderly will not be respected, and the young will not be shown mercy. The children of adultery will increase to the extent that a man will have relations with a woman on the side of the road, and the most appropriate description for them at that time is that if you were to distance yourselves from their path and wear the skins of sheep, their hearts would still resemble those of wolves."
عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا اقْتَرَبَ الزَّمَانُ كَثُرَ لُبْسُ الطَّيَالِسَةِ وَكَثُرَتِ التِّجَارَةُ وَكَثُرَ الْمَالُ وَعَظُمَ رَبُّ الْمَالِ بِمَالِهِ وَكَثُرَتِ الْفَاحِشَةُ وَكَانَتْ إِمَارَةُ الصِّبْيَانِ وَكَثُرَ النِّسَاءُ وَجَارَ السُّلْطَانُ وَطُفِّفَ فِي الْمِكْيَالِ وَالْمِيزَانِ وَيُرَبِّي الرَّجُلُ جِرْوَ كَلْبٍ خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يُرَبِّيَ وَلَدًا لَهُ وَلَا يُوَقَّرُ كَبِيرٌ وَلَا يُرْحَمُ صَغِيرٌ وَيَكْثُرُ أَوْلَادُ الزِّنَا حَتَّى أَنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيَغْشَى الْمَرْأَةَ عَلَى قَارِعَةِ الطَّرِيقِ فَيَقُولُ أَمْثَلُهُمْ فِي ذَلِكَ الزَّمَانِ لَوِ اعْتَزَلْتُمَا عَنِ الطَّرِيقِ وَيَلْبَسُونَ جُلُودَ الضَّأْنِ عَلَى قُلُوبِ الذِّئَابِ أَمْثَلُهُمْ فِي ذَلِكَ الزَّمَانِ الْمَدَاهِنُ
[Machine] I came to Abu Dhar and found him hiding in the mosque under a black blanket alone. So, I said, "O Abu Dhar, what is this solitude?" He replied, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'Solitude is better than bad companionship, and good companionship is better than solitude. Dictating good is better than silence, and silence is better than dictating evil.'"
أَتَيْتُ أَبَا ذَرٍّ فَوَجَدْتُهُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ مُخْتَبِئًا بِكِسَاءٍ أَسْوَدَ وَحْدَهُ فَقُلْتُ يَا أَبَا ذَرٍّ مَا هَذِهِ الْوَحْدَةُ؟ فَقَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «الْوَحْدَةُ خَيْرٌ مِنْ جَلِيسَ السُّوءَ وَالْجَلِيسُ الصَّالِحُ خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْوَحْدَةِ وَإِمْلَاءُ الْخَيْرِ خَيْرٌ مِنَ السُّكُوتِ وَالسُّكُوتُ خَيْرٌ مِنْ إِمْلَاءِ الشَّرِّ» لم يصح
[Machine] I was with Abu Darda when a man from the outskirts of the city came to him and asked him. Abu Darda informed him that Abu Dhar was heading towards Ar-Rabadhah. So Abu Darda said, “We belong to Allah and to Him we shall return. If Abu Dhar had cut a limb or a hand from me, I would not have slandered him after I heard the Prophet ﷺ say, 'The green plants have not shaded anyone or the barren land has not been made fertile by anyone who speaks more truthfully than Abu Dhar.'" Strong chain of narration.
كُنْتُ مَعَ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ فَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ قِبَلِ الْمَدِينَةِ فَسَأَلَهُ فَأَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ أَبَا ذَرٍّ مَسِيرٌ إِلَى الرَّبَذَةِ فَقَالَ أَبُو الدَّرْدَاءِ إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ لَوْ أَنَّ أَبَا ذَرٍّ قَطَعَ لِي عُضْوًا أَوْ يَدًا مَا هَجَّنْتُهُ بَعْدَمَا سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَا أَظَلَّتِ الْخَضْرَاءُ وَلَا أَقَلَّتِ الْغَبْرَاءُ مِنْ رَجُلٍ أَصْدَقَ لَهْجَةً مِنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ» سنده جيد
[Machine] "By Allah, the mother of Thar did not wander with Abu Thar, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'When the prices increase in a town, leave it.' Abu Thar said, when the prices increased, he left the town with his goods and went to Al-Sham (Syria), mentioning the rest of the Hadith in its entirety."
أُمُّ ذَرٍّ وَاللَّهِ مَا سَيَّرَ عُثْمَانُ أَبَا ذَرٍّ وَلَكِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «إِذَا بَلَغَ الْبُنْيَانُ سَلْعًا فَاخْرُجْ مِنْهَا» قَالَ أَبُو ذَرٍّ فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ الْبُنْيَانُ سِلَعًا وَجَاوَزَ خَرَجَ أَبُو ذَرٍّ إِلَى الشَّامِ وَذَكَرَ بَاقِيَ الْحَدِيثِ بِطُولِهِ
[Machine] "He was among the group of people from Kufa who stood up to offer prayers for him."
أَنَّهُ كَانَ فِي الرَّهْطِ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكُوفَةِ الَّذِينَ وَقَفُوا لِلصَّلَاةِ عَلَيْهِ
[Machine] When Abu Dharr was near death, I cried. He asked me, "What makes you cry?" I replied, "Why shouldn't I cry, when you are dying on a patch of earth? I don't have a shroud that fits you or me, and it is necessary for your funeral." He said, "Rejoice and do not cry, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Two Muslim parents do not experience the death of two children or three, without them considering it and seeing the Hellfire forever.' " Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in his summary.
لَمَّا حَضَرَتْ أَبَا ذَرٍّ الْوَفَاةُ بَكَيْتُ فَقَالَ لِي مَا يُبْكِيكِ؟ فَقُلْتُ وَمَا لِيَ لَا أَبْكِي وَأَنْتَ تَمُوتُ بِفَلَاةٍ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ وَلَيْسَ عِنْدِي ثَوْبٌ يَسَعُكَ كَفَنًا لِي وَلَا لَكَ وَلَا بُدَّ مِنْهُ لِنَعْشِكَ قَالَ فَأَبْشِرِي وَلَا تَبْكِي فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «لَا يَمُوتُ بَيْنَ امْرَأَيْنِ مُسْلِمَيْنِ وَلَدَانِ أَوْ ثَلَاثَةٌ فَيَحْتَسِبَانِ فَيَرَيَانِ النَّارَ أَبَدًا» سكت عنه الذهبي في التلخيص
27.122 [Machine] The Mention of the Virtues of Habib ibn Maslama al-Fihri
٢٧۔١٢٢ ذِكْرُ مَنَاقِبِ حَبِيبِ بْنِ مَسْلَمَةَ الْفِهْرِيِّ ؓ
[Machine] He heard from the Prophet ﷺ , who was known as the beloved of the Romans due to his frequent visits to them. He said, and Shurayh ibn Al-Harith (Al-Bahr Al-Taweel) said: "Everyone who claims to be a beloved, even if his features are tender, cannot match the beloved ones of Bani Fihar. Hamam leads the horses as if he is treading on the gravel, taming the raging fire." Al-Dhahabi did not comment on it in his summarization.
سَمِعَ مِنَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَكَانَ يُقَالُ لَهُ حَبِيبُ الرُّومِ مِنْ كَثْرَةِ الدُّخُولِ عَلَيْهِمْ قَالَ وَفِيهِ يَقُولُ شُرَيْحُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ [البحر الطويل] أَلَا كُلُّ مَنْ يَدَّعِي حَبِيبًا وَلَوْ بَدَتْ مُرُوءَتُهُ تَفْدِي حَبِيبَ بَنِي فِهْرٍ هُمَامٌ يَقُودُ الْخَيْلَ حَتَّى كَأَنَّمَا يَطَأْنَ بِرَضْرَاضِ الْحَصَى حَاجِمَ الْجَمْرِسكت عنه الذهبي في التلخيص
[Machine] "To include them in the spoils of war, they said 'We have granted you provisions.' The people of Sham said, 'You have not witnessed the battle, you have no share with us.' Habib refused to share with them and he and his companions claimed their share of the spoils. The people of Sham and the people of Iraq began to dispute over this until it almost escalated between them. Some people from Iraq said, 'If you kill Salman, we will kill your beloved ones. And if you leave towards Ibn Affan, we will leave.' Abu Bakr Al-Ghassani said, 'I have heard that this was the first animosity that occurred between the people of Sham and the people of Iraq.' Adh-Dhahabi did not mention this in his summary."
أَنْ يُشْرِكُوهُمْ فِي الْغَنِيمَةِ وَقَالُوا قَدْ أَمْدَدْنَاكُمْ وَقَالَ أَهْلُ الشَّامِ لَمْ تَشْهَدُوا الْقِتَالَ لَيْسَ لَكُمْ مَعَنَا شَيْءٌ فَأَبَى حَبِيبٌ أَنْ يُشْرِكَهُمْ وَحَوَى هُوَ وَأَصْحَابُهُ عَلَى غَنِيمَتِهِمْ فَتَنَازَعَ أَهْلُ الشَّامِ وَأَهْلُ الْعِرَاقِ فِي ذَلِكَ حَتَّى كَادَ أَنْ يَكُونَ بَيْنَهُمْ فِي ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ بَعْضُ أَهْلِ الْعِرَاقِ فَإِنْ تَقْتُلُوا سَلْمَانَ نَقْتُلْ حَبِيبَكُمْ وَإِنْ تَرْحَلُوا نَحْوَ ابْنِ عَفَّانَ نَرْحَلْ قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْغَسَّانِيُّ «وَسَمِعْتُ أَنَّهَا أَوَّلُ عَدَاوَةٍ وَقَعَتْ بَيْنَ أَهْلِ الشَّامِ وَالْعِرَاقِ» سكت عنه الذهبي في التلخيص
[Machine] I heard my father saying the pseudonym of Habib ibn Muslimah is Abu Abdurrahman.

[Machine] "I witnessed the Prophet ﷺ performing the optional prayer of the third part (of the night)."

[Machine] "That Abu Dharr al-Ghifari and the people used to call Habib ibn Muslimah Habib al-Rum because of his great struggle against the Romans."
«أَنَّ أَبَا ذَرٍّ الْغِفَارِيِّ وَالنَّاسَ كَانُوا يُسَمُّونَ حَبِيبَ بْنَ مَسْلَمَةَ حَبِيبَ الرُّومِ لِكَثْرَةِ مُجَاهَدَتِهِ الرُّومَ»
[Machine] Habib bin Muslama passed away in Armenia in the year forty-two while he was fifty years old.
«تُوُفِّيَ حَبِيبُ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ بِأَرْمِينِيَّةَ سَنَةَ اثْنَتَيْنِ وَأَرْبَعِينَ وَهُوَ ابْنُ خَمْسِينَ سَنَةً»
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Visit those who are sick to increase in love."
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «زُرْ غِبًّا تَزْدَدْ حُبًّا»
[Machine] "He was commanded over an army, so he took the paths. When he reached the enemy, he said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, saying, 'No group gathers and one of them supplicates while the rest feel safe, except that Allah will answer them.'" Then, he praised Allah and praised Him, and then he said, "O Allah, protect our lives and make our rewards the rewards of martyrs." While they were on that, the leader of the enemy, Hunbath, descended and entered the tent of Habib."
أَنَّهُ أُمِّرَ عَلَى جَيْشٍ فَدَرِبَ الدُّرُوبَ فَلَمَّا أَتَى الْعَدُوَّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «لَا يَجْتَمِعُ مَلَأٌ فَيَدْعُو بَعْضُهُمْ وَيُؤَمِّنُ الْبَعْضُ إِلَّا أَجَابَهُمُ اللَّهُ» ثُمَّ إِنَّهُ حَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ «اللَّهُمُ احْقِنْ دِمَاءَنَا وَاجْعَلْ أُجُورَنَا أُجُورَ الشُّهَدَاءِ» فَبَيْنَمَا هُمْ عَلَى ذَلِكَ إِذْ نَزَلَ الْهُنْبَاطُ أَمِيرُ الْعَدُوِّ فَدَخَلَ عَلَى حَبِيبٍ سُرَادِقِهِسكت عنه الذهبي في التلخيص

[Machine] "And among those who witnessed the Battle of Badr with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from the Banu Zuhrah and their allies was Miqdad ibn Amr ibn Thaʿlabah ibn Malik ibn Zamʿah ibn Thumamah ibn Matruud ibn Amr ibn Rabee'ah ibn Zuhayr ibn Namir ibn Thaʿlabah ibn Malik."
«وَمِمَّنْ شَهِدَ بَدْرًا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ مِنْ بَنِي زُهْرَةَ وَمِنْ حُلَفَائِهِمُ الْمِقْدَادُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ ثَعْلَبَةَ بْنِ مَالِكِ بْنِ زَمْعَةَ بْنِ ثُمَامَةَ بْنِ مَطْرُودِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ زُهَيْرِ بْنِ نَمِرِ بْنِ ثَعْلَبَةَ بْنِ مَالِكٍ»
[Machine] About Urwah: "Regarding the naming of those who witnessed the Battle of Badr with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from the tribe of Bani Zuhrah and their allies, Muqaddad ibn 'Amr."
عَنْ عُرْوَةَ «فِي تَسْمِيَةِ مَنْ شَهِدَ بَدْرًا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ مِنْ بَنِي زُهْرَةَ وَمِنْ حُلَفَائِهِمُ الْمِقْدَادُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو»
[Machine] "And it is said that it is al-Aswad ibn Abi Qays ibn 'Abd Manaf."
وَيُقَالُ إِلَى الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ أَبِي قَيْسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ مَنَافٍ»
[Machine] "I used to be a friend of Al-Miqdad ibn Al-Aswad during the pre-Islamic era. He was involved in fighting, so he escaped to Kindah and swore allegiance to them. Then he got into a fight with them and fled to Makkah, where he swore allegiance to Al-Aswad ibn Abdul Yaghouth. That is why he is attributed to them."
«كُنْتُ صَاحِبًا لِلْمِقْدَادِ بْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَأَصَابَ فِيهِمْ دَمًا فَهَرَبَ إِلَى كِنْدَةَ فَحَالَفَهُمْ ثُمَّ أَصَابَ مِنْهُمْ دَمًا فَهَرَبَ إِلَى مَكَّةَ فَحَالَفَ الْأَسْوَدَ بْنَ عَبْدِ يَغُوثَ فَلِذَلِكَ نُسِبَ إِلَيْهِ»
[Machine] Al-Miqdad ibn al-Aswad, also known as Abu Ma'bad, died in the year thirty after reaching around seventy years old. He used to dye his beard. He died falling off a cliff, and his body was carried on the shoulders of men. Uthman ibn Affan prayed over him, and he was buried in al-Baqi'.
«الْمِقْدَادُ بْنُ الْأَسْوَدِ يُكَنَّى أَبَا مَعْبَدٍ مَاتَ سَنَةَ ثَلَاثِينَ بَلَغَ نَحْوًا مِنْ سَبْعِينَ سَنَةً وَكَانَ يُصَفِّرُ لِحْيَتَهُ مَاتَ بِالْجُرْفِ فَحُمِلَ عَلَى رِقَابِ الرِّجَالِ وَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ وَدُفِنَ بِالْبَقِيعِ»
[Machine] He is called Al-Miqdad bin Aswad. When the Quran revealed the verse "Call them by their fathers' names" (33:5), he was referred to as Al-Miqdad bin Amr. Al-Miqdad migrated to the land of Abyssinia in the second migration according to the narration of Ibn Ishaq. Al-Miqdad participated in the battles of Badr, Uhud, Al-Khandaq, and all other major battles with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . He was one of the skilled archers among the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . Adh-Dhahabi did not mention him in the summary.
يُقَالُ لَهُ الْمِقْدَادُ بْنُ الْأَسْوَدِ فَلَمَّا نَزَلَ الْقُرْآنُ {ادْعُوهُمْ لِآبَائِهِمْ} [الأحزاب 5] قِيلَ لَهُ الْمِقْدَادُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو وَهَاجَرَ الْمِقْدَادُ إِلَى أَرْضَ الْحَبَشَةِ الْهِجْرَةَ الثَّانِيَةَ فِي رِوَايَةِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ وَشَهِدَ الْمِقْدَادُ بَدْرًا وأُحُدًا وَالْخَنْدَقَ وَالْمَشَاهِدَ كُلَّهَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَكَانَ مِنَ الرُّمَاةِ الْمَذْكُورِينَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ سكت عنه الذهبي في التلخيص
[Machine] "I swear by the honor of its people." Then Al-Aswad bin 'Abd Yaghooth swore. It was said to him, "You are Mikdad bin Al-Aswad." He said, "No, I am Mikdad bin 'Amr Al-Bahrawi and not the son of Al-Aswad Al-Kindi."
«لَأُحَالِفَنَّ أَعَزَّ أَهْلِهَا فَحَالَفَ الْأَسْوَدَ بْنَ عَبْدِ يَغُوثَ فَقِيلَ لَهُ مِقْدَادُ بْنُ الْأَسْوَدِ وَإِنَّمَا هُوَ مِقْدَادُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْبَهْرَاوِيُّ وَلَيْسَ بِابْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ الْكِنْدِيِّ»
[Machine] To be his companion is dearer to me than anything else, because he (referring to the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him) came while invoking upon the polytheists, and said: "By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, we do not say what the people of Moses said to Moses: 'Go, you and your Lord, and fight, we are here sitting' but we fight on your right, on your left, in front of you, and behind you." So I saw the Prophet, peace be upon him, pleased with that.
لِأَنْ أَكُونَ صَاحِبَهُ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِمَّا عُدِلَ بِهِ أَنَّهُ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ وَهُوَ يَدْعُو عَلَى الْمُشْرِكِينَ فَقَالَ إِنَّا وَاللَّهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لَا نَقُولُ كَمَا قَالَ قَوْمُ مُوسَى لِمُوسَى {اذْهَبْ أَنْتَ وَرَبُّكَ فَقَاتِلَا إِنَّا هَاهُنَا قَاعِدُونَ} وَلَكِنَّا نُقَاتِلُ عَنْ يَمِينِكَ وَعَنْ شِمَالِكَ وَمِنْ بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ وَمِنْ خَلْفِكَ «فَرَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يُشْرِقُ لِذَلِكَ وَسَرَّهُ ذَلِكَ»
[Machine] I saw Al-Miqdad ibn Al-Aswad, the Guardian of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , sitting on a coffin from the coffins of Sufah in Hims. The coffin was superior to him in size, and he wanted to join in the battle. So, I said to him, "May Allah forgive you." He replied, "Allah has excused us with the verse of Enlistment: 'March forth, whether light or heavy' (Qur'an 9:41)." Then he said, "The rest of the verse is from Surah At-Tawbah."
رَأَيْتُ الْمِقْدَادَ بْنَ الْأَسْوَدِ حَارِسَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ جَالِسًا عَلَى تَابُوتٍ مِنْ تَوَابِيتِ الصَّيَارِفَةِ بِحِمْصَ قَدْ أَفْضَلَ عَلَى التَّابُوتِ مِنْ عِظَمِهِ يُرِيدُ الْغَزْوَ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ لَقَدْ أَعْذَرَ اللَّهُ إِلَيْكَ فَقَالَ أَبَتْ عَلَيْنَا سُورَةُ الْبُعُوثِ {انْفِرُوا خِفَافًا وَثِقَالًا} [التوبة 41] قَالَ بَقِيَّةُ «سُورَةُ الْبُعُوثِ سُورَةُ التَّوْبَةِ»
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me on a mission, and when I returned, he said to me, "How do you find yourself?" I said, "I am still as I was, until I thought that those who were with me had turned away from me. By Allah, I do not work on two paths after them."
بَعَثَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَبْعَثًا فَلَمَّا رَجَعْتُ قَالَ لِي «كَيْفَ تَجِدُ نَفْسَكَ؟» قُلْتُ مَا زِلْتُ حَتَّى ظَنَنْتُ أَنَّ مَنْ مَعِي خَوَلًا لِي وَايْمُ اللَّهِ لَا أَعْمَلُ عَلَى رَجُلَيْنِ بَعْدَهُمَا

٢٧۔١٢٤ ذِكْرُ مَنَاقِبِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَبِي عَبْسِ بْنِ جَبْرٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ الْخَزْرَجِيِّ ؓ
[Machine] About Ibn Ishaq, "Regarding those who witnessed the Battle of Badr with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from the Banu Al-Harith ibn Al-Khazraj ibn Amr ibn Malik ibn Aws, Abu Abs ibn Jabr ibn Amr ibn Zaid ibn Jusham ibn Haritha ibn Al-Harith."
عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ «فِيمَنْ شَهِدَ بَدْرًا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ مِنْ بَنِي الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَوْسٍ أَبُو عَبْسِ بْنِ جَبْرِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ جُشَمِ بْنِ حَارِثَةَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ»
[Machine] "Abu 'Abs ibn Jabr ibn 'Amr ibn Zaid ibn Jusham ibn Haritha witnessed the Battle of Badr with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ."
«شَهِدَ بَدْرًا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَبُو عَبْسِ بْنِ جَبْرِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ جُشَمِ بْنِ حَارِثَةَ»
[Machine] I read upon Ya'qub regarding someone who witnessed the Battle of Badr, Abu 'Absi ibn Jabr, and his name was 'Abdul Rahman ibn Jabr.
قَرَأْتُ عَلَى يَعْقُوبَ فِيمَنْ شَهِدَ بَدْرًا أَبُو عَبْسِ بْنُ جَبْرٍ وَاسْمُهُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ جَبْرٍ
[Machine] "Abu Abbas Abdullah bin Jabr bin Amr bin Zaid Al-Ansari passed away in the thirty-third year."
«أَبُو عَبْسِ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ جَبْرِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ زَيْدِ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ مَاتَ فِي سَنَةِ ثَلَاثٍ وَثَلَاثِينَ»
[Machine] Abu Abis Abdul Rahman ibn Jabr died in the year forty-three while he was seventy years old.
«مَاتَ أَبُو عَبْسِ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ جَبْرٍ سَنَةَ أَرْبَعٍ وَثَلَاثِينَ وَهُوَ ابْنُ سَبْعِينَ سَنَةً»
[Machine] "Abu Abis ibn Jabr and Khunays ibn Hudhaafah al-Sahmi were among the noble companions. Abu Abis witnessed the battles of Badr, Uhud, the Battle of the Trench, and all other major events along with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . He was also among those who participated in the killing of Ka'b ibn Ashraf."
«كَانَ أَبُو عَبْسِ بْنِ جَبْرٍ وخُنَيْسُ بْنُ حُذَافَةَ السَّهْمِيُّ مِنْ كِبَارِ الصَّحَابَةِ وَشَهِدَ أَبُو عَبْسٍ بَدْرًا وأُحُدًا وَالْخَنْدَقَ وَالْمَشَاهِدَ كُلَّهَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَكَانَ فِيمَنْ قَتَلَ كَعْبَ بْنَ الْأَشْرَفِ»
[Machine] It was narrated that Abdullah bin Abi Abs Al-Ansari, from the descendants of Abi Abs, said, "He used to pray with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , then he would go out to the tribe of Banu Harithah. One dark, stormy night, he illuminated his way with his staff until he entered the home of Banu Harithah."
ثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَجِيدِ بْنُ أَبِي عَبْسٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ مِنْ وَلَدِ أَبِي عَبْسٍ «كَانَ يُصَلِّي مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ الصَّلَوَاتِ ثُمَّ يَخْرُجُ إِلَى بَنِي حَارِثَةَ فَخَرَجَ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ مُظْلِمَةٍ مَطِيرَةٍ فَنَوَّرَ لَهُ فِي عَصَاهُ حَتَّى دَخَلَ دَارَ بَنِي حَارِثَةَ» مرسل
[Machine] Abu 'Abbas ibn Jabr al-Ansari invited the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for a meal that he had prepared for them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Take off your shoes at the table, for it is a beautiful Sunnah." Yahya and his teacher, Matrukan.
دَعَا أَبُو عَبْسِ بْنِ جَبْرٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ لِطَعَامٍ صَنَعَهُ لَهُمْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «اخْلَعُوا نِعَالَكُمْ عِنْدَ الطَّعَامِ فَإِنَّهَا سُنَّةٌ جَمِيلَةٌ» يحيى وشيخه متروكان
[Machine] "A part of the narration was omitted by Al-Dhahabi in his summary: There were two men who lived farthest from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ . One was Abu Lubabah ibn Abdul-Mundhir and his family, who resided in Quba. The other was Abu Abs ibn Jabr, whose dwelling was in the Banu Harithah tribe. Both of them used to pray the Asr (afternoon) prayer with the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ , and then would go to their respective people and perform the prayer to hasten the arrival of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with his prayer."
«كَانَ أَبْعَدَ رَجُلَيْنِ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ دَارًا أَبُو لُبَابَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمُنْذِرِ وَأَهْلُهُ بِقُبَاءَ وَأَبُو عَبْسِ بْنُ جَبْرٍ وَمَسْكَنَهُ فِي بَنِي حَارِثَةَ وَكَانَا يُصَلِّيَانِ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ الْعَصْرَ ثُمَّ يَأْتِيَانِ قَوْمَهُمَا وَمَا صَلُّوا لِتَعْجِيلِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِصَلَاتِهِ» سكت عنه الذهبي في التلخيص
27.125 [Machine] The mention of the merits of Abu Talhah Zaid bin Sahl Al-Ansari.
٢٧۔١٢٥ ذِكْرُ مَنَاقِبِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ زَيْدِ بْنِ سَهْلِ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ ؓ
[Machine] "Abu Talhah Zaid bin Sahl bin Al-Aswad bin Haram bin Zaid Manat bin Adi bin Malik bin Al-Najjar. He participated in the Battle of Badr and was one of the mentioned archers among the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . It is said that he was a well-built man and he died in Medina in the year thirty-four. Uthman bin Affan led the funeral prayer for him, and at that time, Uthman was seventy years old."
«أَبُو طَلْحَةَ زَيْدُ بْنُ سَهْلِ بْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ حَرَامِ بْنِ زَيْدِ مَنَاةَ بْنِ عَدِيِّ بْنِ مَالِكِ بْنِ النَّجَّارِ شَهِدَ بَدْرًا وَلَهُ عَقِبٌ وَكَانَ مِنَ الرُّمَاةِ الْمَذْكُورِينَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَقِيلَ إِنَّهُ كَانَ رَجُلًا أَدَمَ مَرْبُوعًا وَمَاتَ بِالْمَدِينَةِ سَنَةَ أَرْبَعٍ وَثَلَاثِينَ وَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ وَهُوَ يَوْمَئِذٍ ابْنُ سَبْعِينَ سَنَةً»
[Machine] About Uruwah, "Regarding the identification of the person who witnessed the pledge of allegiance at Al-Aqabah and then witnessed the Battle of Badr from the Banu Amro bin Malik bin Al-Najjar, his name is Abu Talhah, and he is Zaid, the son of Sahl, son of Al-Aswad, son of Haram, son of Amro, son of Zaid, son of Manah."
عَنْ عُرْوَةَ «فِي تَسْمِيَةِ مَنْ شَهِدَ بَيْعَةَ الْعَقَبَةِ ثُمَّ شَهِدَ بَدْرًا مِنْ بَنِي عَمْرِو بْنِ مَالِكِ بْنِ النَّجَّارِ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ وَهُوَ زَيْدُ بْنُ سَهْلِ بْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ حَرَامِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ زَيْدِ مَنَاةَ»
«كَانَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ زَيْدُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ يَحْفِرُ»
[Machine] I heard Yahya bin Ma'in saying, "Abu Talha Al-Ansari, Zaid bin Sahl."
سَمِعْتُ يَحْيَى بْنَ مَعِينٍ يَقُولُ «أَبُو طَلْحَةَ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ زَيْدُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ»
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "This is my cousin, so whoever among you wishes to marry him, let him marry him." He was referring to Abu Talha, the husband of Umm Sulaim. He said it during the incident of "Al-Karam", and I heard it from Abu Ishaq Ibrahim bin Muhammad bin Yahya, who said: "I heard Abu Al-Abbas Ad-Duguli saying: 'I heard Al-Hafiz Salah Jazra saying: 'Fadl Al-Razi told me when you enter Nishapur, a man with a good face, good clothes, good mount, and good manners will greet you. Know that he is Muhammad bin Yahya Adh-Dhuhli. May the first thing you ask him about be the Hadith from Shu'bah about Yahya bin Subayh, and mention the Hadith to him.'" He said: "So, I resolved that the first thing I did when I entered Nishapur was that a man greeted me with these qualities, so I asked about him and they said, 'He is Muhammad bin Yahya.' So, I greeted him and he returned the greeting. Then, I followed him until he settled. I said to him, 'The Sheikh has asked me for his books.' So, he brought out some volumes and said to me, 'Wait for me until I finish praying Dhuhr.' When he finished, he called the Adhan, prepared himself to pray, sat in his designated place, and I recited to him what I had written. Then, I asked him what Hadith Fadl Al-Razi mentioned to me about the Sheikh. He said, 'Tell me.' So, I said, 'Sa'id bin 'Amir narrated to us from Shu'bah, and I mentioned the Hadith to him.' He smiled and said to me, 'O young man, who would choose someone like this for a candidate and recite something like what you have recited, unless he knows that Sa'id bin 'Amir does not narrate something like this?' I said, 'Yes, Sa'id bin 'Amir narrated it to us from Wa'il.' He said, 'Yes, Sa'id bin Wa'il narrated it to us.'" Adh-Dhahabi did not mention this in his summary.
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ «هَذَا خَالِي فَمَنْ شَاءَ مِنْكُمْ فَلْيُخْرِجْ خَالَهُ» يَعْنِي أَبَا طَلْحَةَ زَوْجَ أُمِّ سُلَيْمٍ قَالَ فِي «الْكَرَمِ» قَالَ هَذَا سَمِعْتُ أَبَا إِسْحَاقَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنَ مُحَمَّدِ بْنَ يَحْيَى يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْعَبَّاسِ الدُّغُولِيُّ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ الْحَافِظَ صَالِحًا جَزْرَةَ يَقُولُ قَالَ لِي فَضْلُكَ الرَّازِيُّ «إِذَا دَخَلْتَ نَيْسَابُورَ يَسْتَقْبِلُكَ شَيْخٌ حَسَنُ الْوَجْهَ حَسَنُ الثِّيَابَ حَسَنُ الرُّكُوبِ حَسَنُ الْكَلَامِ فَاعْلَمْ أَنَّهُ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى الذُّهْلِيُّ فَلْيَكُنْ أَوَّلَ مَا تَسْأَلُ عَنْهُ حَدِيثَ شُعْبَةَ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ صُبَيْحٍ وَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ» قَالَ فَقَضَى أَنَّ أَوَّلَ مَا دَخَلْتُ نَيْسَابُورَ اسْتَقْبَلَنِي رَجُلٌ بِهَذَا الْوَصْفَ فَسَأَلْتُ عَنْهُ فَقَالُوا هَذَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَرَدَّ الْجَوَّابَ فَتَبِعْتُهُ إِلَى أَنْ نَزَلَ فَقُلْتُ يُخْرِجُ الشَّيْخُ إِلَيَّ كُتَبَهُ فَأَخْرَجَ أَجْزَاءً وَقَالَ انْتَظِرْنِي لِخُرُوجِي لِصَلَاةِ الظُّهْرِ فَلَمَّا خَرَجَ أَذَّنَ وَأَقَامَ وَصَلَّى وَجَلَسَ فِي مِحْرَابِهِ فَقَرَأْتُ عَلَيْهِ مَا كَتَبْتُهُ ثُمَّ قُلْتُ لَهُ مَا حَدِيثٌ أَفَادَنِي فَضْلَكَ الرَّازِيُّ عَنِ الشَّيْخِ فَقَالَ هَاتِ فَقُلْتُ حَدَّثَكُمْ سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ ثَنَا شُعْبَةُ وَذَكَرْتُ الْحَدِيثَ فَتَبَسَّمَ ثُمَّ قَالَ لِي «يَا فَتًى مَنْ يَنْتَخِبُ مِثْلَ هَذَا الِانْتِخَابِ الَّذِي انْتَخَبْتَهُ وَيَقْرَأُ مِثْلَ مَا قَرَأْتَ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّ سَعِيدَ بْنَ عَامِرٍ لَا يُحَدِّثُ بِمِثْلِ هَذَا؟» فَقُلْتُ نَعَمْ حَدَّثَكُمْ سَعِيدُ بْنُ وَاصِلٍ فَقَالَ «نَعَمْ حَدَّثَنَاهُ سَعِيدُ بْنُ وَاصِلٍ» سكت عنه الذهبي في التلخيص
