27. Book of the Companions (51/53)

٢٧۔ كِتَابُ مَعْرِفَةِ الصَّحَابَةِ ؓ ص ٥١

[Machine] As for the two sheikhs, they did not mention anything beyond the virtues. We have started in the first mention of the companion by discussing his lineage and death, then we mentioned what is valid about their conditions from their virtues that they did not mention. So I did not forget to mention Muhammad ibn Umar al-Waqidi and his peers in knowledge.

[Machine] A man from the tribe of Banu Zuhrah met Umar before he accepted Islam, while he was imitating with a sword. Umar asked him, "Where are you heading?" He replied, "I intend to kill Muhammad." Umar said, "Shouldn't I guide you to something surprising? O Umar, your sister and her husband have embraced Islam and left their previous religion." Umar became furious and walked towards them with anger. When he reached their house, he heard a man named Khabbab reciting surah Taha to them. As soon as Khabbab heard Umar's footsteps, he hid under their bed. Umar entered the house and asked, "What was that whispering I heard from you two?" They replied, "We were discussing something privately." Umar said, "Perhaps you have both embraced Islam and left your religion." Then, Sa'id bin Zaid, Umar's sister's husband, said to him, "O Umar, what if the truth is not in your religion?" Umar became enraged and attacked him violently. His sister tried to intervene, but Umar struck her face and caused it to bleed. She said in her anger, "O Umar, what if the truth is not in your religion? I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah." When Umar lost hope in making them renounce Islam, he said, "Give me the book you have." His sister told him that he is impure and only the purified can touch the book. Umar was told to wash or perform ablution before touching it.

One day, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ visited her and asked, "How are you, O Um Abdullah?" She replied, "I am well, by my father and mother, O Messenger of Allah." He then asked, "And how is Abdullah?" She replied, "He is well, by his father and mother. Abdullah is a man who has renounced worldly pleasures. He has forbidden sleep, so he does not sleep. He has forbidden meat, so he does not eat it, and he does not fulfill the rights of his family." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "Where is he?" She said, "He left quickly, and he is about to return, O Messenger of Allah." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When he comes back to you, detain him with me." Abdullah did not delay in returning, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "Verily, you have rights upon yourself, and your family also has rights upon you."

Umm Habibah, daughter of Jahsh, sister-in-law of Messenger of Allah ﷺ and wife of 'Abd al-Rahman b. 'Awf, had a flow of blood for seven years. She asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: This is not menstruation but only vein; so you should take a bath and pray. 'Aishah said: She used to take bath in a wash-tub in the apartment of her sister Zainab daughter of Jahsh ; the redness of (her) blood dominated the water. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 288)

[Machine] Narrated by Aisha, the wife of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ , from Juthama ibn Wahb al-Asadiya, from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , that he was concerned about preventing people from having intimate relations during breastfeeding. So I looked and saw that the Persians and Romans practiced it, and it did not harm their children. Aisha asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about 'azl (coitus interruptus). He said, "It is a secret contraception method." Both Sheikhs (referring to Bukhari and Muslim) agreed on omitting the hadith of Malik ibn Anas from Abu al-Aswad without the addition, as it came from Yahya ibn Ayyub.

[Machine] Indeed, when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ desired his honor and the beginning of prophethood from Allah, whenever he went out for his needs, he would travel far away until he could not see a house. He would traverse through the outskirts and valleys, not passing by a stone or tree except that it would greet him with salaam, saying, "Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah." He would then turn to his right, left, and behind him, not seeing anyone. This hadith is authentic.

He said to his companions, 'Hurry, for indeed Allah, the Exalted, has prescribed for you Sa'i (the running between Safa and Marwah).' She said: "I saw him in the intensity of his movement, turning his waist wrap around his belly until I saw the whiteness of his armpits and thighs."
