27. Book of the Companions (35/53)
[Machine] As for the two sheikhs, they did not mention anything beyond the virtues. We have started in the first mention of the companion by discussing his lineage and death, then we mentioned what is valid about their conditions from their virtues that they did not mention. So I did not forget to mention Muhammad ibn Umar al-Waqidi and his peers in knowledge.
[Machine] "Abu Abdullah said, 'Saad embraced Islam when he was nineteen years old.'"
[Machine] "Um Saad and the mother of his brothers, Umair and Aamir, were Hamna bint Abi Sufyan bin Umayya bin Abd Shams. Umair was martyred in the Battle of Badr, while Aamir was among the immigrants to Abyssinia. Aamir used to dye himself black, meaning he dyed his hair with black color, like Saad."
[Machine] "My father, Saad, passed away ten miles away from the city, so he was carried on the backs of men to the city. And Marwan was the governor of the city at that time."
[Machine] Saad ibn Abi Waqqas had a son named Omar ibn Saad, who was killed by Mukhtar ibn Abi Ubaid and Muhammad ibn Saad, who was killed by Hajjaj ibn Yusuf. They were among the captured companions of Abdul Rahman ibn Muhammad ibn al-Ash'ath. Their mother is Mariyah bint Qais ibn Madi Karb from Kindah. Other sons of Saad are Amer ibn Saad and his mother is Bahra'a, and Salih ibn Saad. He stayed in Hira for some time and conflicts arose between him and his brother Omar ibn Saad. His mother is Khawla bint Umayr ibn Taghlib ibn Wail. Ibrahim ibn Saad, Ishaq ibn Saad, Yahya ibn Saad, and Aisha bint Saad are also his children.

[Machine] "From the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Al-Dhahabi remained silent when summarizing."
[Machine] "To tell you a story that will increase you by a hundred."
[Machine] About the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , except for one hadith, Adh-Dhahabi remained silent about summarizing it.
[Machine] "I embraced Islam the day I embraced it, and Allah did not make prayer obligatory."
[Machine] "He said, 'O abundant sea! Should I not inform the Messenger of Allah that I have protected my companions with my noble chest, I repel their enemies with it, and defend them with every grievous incident and every gentle breeze? No attacker can approach them with an arrow before it reaches the Messenger of Allah through me.'"
[Machine] We were sitting with the Prophet ﷺ , then Saad ibn Abi Waqqas approached and the Prophet ﷺ said, "This is my maternal uncle, so let a man show me his maternal uncle"
[Machine] "That Saad ibn Abi Waqqas was the first to shed blood in the cause of Allah."
[Machine] "The first one to throw an arrow in the path of Allah is Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ sat in the mosque for three nights saying, "O Allah, admit through this door a servant who loves You and whom You love." Then, Saad entered from that door.
[Machine] To me, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Allah, respond to him when he calls upon You."
[Machine] Saad ibn Abi Waqqas said, "I am the son of Mustajab ad-Du'a (one whose supplications are answered) and the leader of the Thalmah tribe among the Arabs. I am entrusted with the flag for the Prophet Muhammad, and with it, I march in his honor. Allah has favored me with this position over all others. The people differed among themselves, but I refused to fight against the people of Tawhid (belief in the oneness of Allah) and the books (scriptures). Allah protected me, and not a single person from them was harmed by an arrow, nor were they harmed."
[Machine] "Why do you insult Ali ibn Abi Talib? Wasn't he the first to embrace Islam? Wasn't he the first to pray with the Messenger of Allah? Wasn't he the most ascetic of people? Wasn't he the most knowledgeable of people?" He continued, saying, "Wasn't he the one whom the Messenger of Allah circumcised his daughter? Wasn't he the companion of the Messenger of Allah in his expeditions?" Then he turned towards the Qibla and raised his hands and said, "O Allah, this person insults one of Your close allies, so do not disperse this gathering until You show them Your power." Qays said, "By Allah, we did not disperse until his beast screamed and threw him upon his forehead in those rocks, and his brain split and he died."
[Machine] To me, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Allah, guide his aim and answer his supplication."
[Machine] I was sitting with Saad when a man named Al-Harith ibn Barssaa came to him in the market. Saad said to him, "O Abu Ishaq, I was present with Marwan and I heard him saying, 'This wealth is ours to give as we please.'" Saad then raised his hand and said, "Shall I call him?" Marwan got up from his bed and embraced Saad, saying, "I urge you, O Abu Ishaq, to make supplication, for this is indeed Allah's wealth."
[Machine] Indeed, the wealth of Allah is His, He gives it to whom He wills and withholds it from whom He wills. So he said to him, "Did you hear him say that?" He replied, "Yes." Sa'id then took the hands of Sa'd and Al-Harith and they went to Marwan. Sa'id said, "O Marwan, you claim that the wealth of Allah is yours, and you give it to whomever you wish and withold it from whomever you wish?" Marwan replied, "Yes." Sa'id then said, "Then I call upon Allah" and raised his hands. Marwan quickly approached him and said, "I adjure you by Allah to not call upon Him. His wealth is His, He gives it to whom He wills and withholds it from whom He wills."
Were there a pious person from amongst my companions who should keep a watch for me during the nightt? She said: We heard the noise of arms, whereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Who is it? And Sa'd b. Abi Waqqas said: Allah's MesseDger. I have come to serve as your sentinel. 'A'isha said: Allah' s Messenger ﷺ slept (such a sound sleep) that I heard the noise of his snoring. (Using translation from Muslim 2410a)
[Machine] "When the first trials came upon me, they appeared confusing to me, so I said, 'O Allah, show me the truth and guide me to cling onto it.' Then I saw in a vision what a sleeping person sees, both the worldly life and the hereafter, with a wall that was not tall between them. So I said, 'If only I could climb this wall to see my brave martyrs and ask them.' They replied, 'We are the angels.' I asked, 'Where are the martyrs?' They replied, 'Go up the steps.' So I ascended a step, and Allah knows best about its beauty and vastness. Then I saw Muhammad ﷺ and Ibrahim ﷺ , who said to Ibrahim, 'Seek forgiveness for my ummah,' and Ibrahim replied, 'You do not know what they have done after you, how they spilled their own blood and killed their imam. Why don't they do as Sa'd (ibn Abi Waqqas) has done?' So I said, 'By Allah, I have seen a dream that Allah may benefit me with it. I will go and see Sa'd and be with him.' So I went to Sa'd and narrated the story to him. He said, 'How delighted I am with this! Indeed, those who are not like Ibrahim have failed.' I asked, 'Which of the two groups are you with?' He replied, 'I am not with either of them.' I asked, 'What do you command me?' He said, 'Do you have any sheep?' I replied, 'No.' He said, 'Then buy a sheep and stay with it until your situation becomes clear."

27.211 [Machine] The mention of Arqam ibn Abi Arqam al Makhzumi
[Machine] About Uruwah ibn al-Zubayr in naming those who participated in the Battle of Badr from the Quraysh then from the Banu Makhzum, Al-Arqam ibn Abi al-Arqam.
[Machine] "And the makhzumites said, 'Umm Al-Arqam Ibn Abi Al-Arqam joined in marriage with Bint Hizyam from the descendants of Sahm Ibn 'Amr Ibn Hushaysh.'"
[Machine] "He used to say, 'I am the son of Subu' al-Islam. My father embraced Islam on the seventh day, and his house was on As-Safa, which was the house where the Prophet ﷺ used to be in during the early days of Islam. He invited people to Islam there, and many embraced Islam in that house. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said on the night of Monday while there, 'O Allah, give honor to Islam through the two dearest men to You, either Umar ibn al-Khattab or Amr ibn Hisham.' The following morning, Umar ibn al-Khattab embraced Islam in the house of Arqam, and they left from there, glorifying and circumambulating the Kaaba openly. The house of Arqam was then known as the house of Islam, and Arqam gave it as charity to his son. I read a copy of the charity document in the house of Arqam, which began with 'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. This is what Arqam decreed, his share of the Sadaqah. It was his right to have a portion of Safa, and it is a charity in its place in the Haram that cannot be sold or inherited.' Hisham ibn al-Aas and Fulan ibn Hisham's client testified to this. This house continued to function as a standing charity, with his children residing in it, leasing it, and benefitting from it, until the time of my father Ja'far bin Muhammad."

[Machine] "About his grandfather Al-Arqam, who was from the Badriyyun (early Muslims) and was a companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . He bestowed his house in the vicinity of As-Safa as a shelter for the Muslims until they reached a count of forty Muslim men, with the last of them to embrace Islam being Umar ibn Al-Khattab.
When they reached forty, they went out to the polytheists, and Al-Arqam said, 'I went to bid farewell to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and I intended to go to Bayt al-Maqdis (Jerusalem).' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked me, 'Where do you intend to go?' I replied, 'Bayt al-Maqdis.' He then asked, 'Are you going there for trade?' I replied, 'No, but to pray there.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'A prayer there is equivalent to a thousand prayers elsewhere.'
