27. Book of the Companions (34/53)
[Machine] As for the two sheikhs, they did not mention anything beyond the virtues. We have started in the first mention of the companion by discussing his lineage and death, then we mentioned what is valid about their conditions from their virtues that they did not mention. So I did not forget to mention Muhammad ibn Umar al-Waqidi and his peers in knowledge.
[Machine] Urwah and Abdur Rahman bin Abdi Al-Qari reported that they heard Umar bin Al-Khattab saying, "I passed by Hisham bin Hakim bin Hizam while he was reciting Surah Al-Baqarah during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . The hadith was long. Umar said, "According to the arrangement of this Book, the mention of Khalid bin Hizam should come before Hakim, and the mention of Hisham bin Hakim should come after them. However, I have gathered them together in this place when mentioning Hakim, so that it may be easier to understand for the one benefiting."

27.202 [Machine] Mentioning the virtues of Hassaan ibn Thaabit al-Ansari and Thaabiti regarding the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the Muslim community in refuting polytheism and the polytheists.
[Machine] Hassan ibn Thabit lived for sixty years during the pre-Islamic period and was known as Abu al-Walid. In Islam, he also lived for sixty years and he was Hassan ibn Thabit ibn al-Mundhir ibn Haram ibn Amr ibn Zaid Manah ibn Adi ibn Amr ibn Malik ibn al-Najjar. He was the poet of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his mother was Hassana al-Furai'ah bint Khalid ibn Khunays ibn Lawzan ibn Abd Wad. It is said that he passed away before the age of forty and it is also said that he passed away in the year fifty-five.
[Machine] "I came to Hassan, so I said, 'O father of Husam.'"
[Machine] "I heard a Jew who was standing on the outskirts of Yathrib shouting, 'O people of the Jews!'. When they gathered around him, they said, 'What is wrong with you?' He replied, 'The star that is appointed to be sent tonight has risen.'"
[Machine] "The Long Sea, and if a person seeks his worldly desires, he clings to it with the rope of arrogance."
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to setup a pulpit in the mosque for Hassan who would stand on it and satirise those who spoke against the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would say: The spirit of holiness (i.e. Gabriel) is with Hassan so long as he speaks in defence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 5015)
This tradition has also been narrated on the authority of ‘A’ishah through a different chain. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 99)
[Machine] "The abundant sea, my father, mother, and my honor are offered for the honor of Muhammad from you and meeting." Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in the summary.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Hassaan ibn Thabit, "Indeed, the Holy Spirit is with you whenever you confront them."
[Machine] Hassan ibn Thabit sought permission from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to verbally attack the polytheists. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "But what about my relation with them?" Hassan replied, "I will ask you questions about them just as a strand of hair is separated from dough." (This narration is according to the stipulation of al-Bukhari and Muslim)
[Machine] Abdullah ibn Rawaha and Hassaan ibn Thabit came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when the verse "Ta Seen Meem" [Surah Ash-Shu'ara, verse 1] was revealed. When the Prophet ﷺ recited the verses "And the poets, [only] the deviators follow them" [Surah Ash-Shu'ara, verse 224], Abdullah ibn Rawaha and Hassaan ibn Thabit wept. They continued crying until the verse "And they have done righteous deeds" [Surah Ash-Shu'ara, verse 227] was revealed. The Prophet ﷺ said, "You are [mentioned] in it." Then the verse "And remember Allah often" [Surah Ash-Shu'ara, verse 227] was revealed. The Prophet ﷺ said, "You are [mentioned] in it." Then the verse "And they supported them after they were wronged" [Surah Ash-Shu'ara, verse 227] was revealed. The Prophet ﷺ said, "You are [mentioned] in it." Adh-Dhahabi remained silent about it in his summary.

[Machine] The translation of the given Arabic text into English is as follows:
"It is reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was approached and told, 'O Messenger of Allah, Abu Sufyan ibn al-Harith ibn 'Abdul-Muttalib is insulting you.' Then Ibn Rawaha stood up and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, allow me to deal with him.' The Prophet ﷺ asked, 'Are you the one who says, "May Allah keep you firm"?' He replied, 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' Then the Prophet ﷺ said, 'May Allah keep you firm in what He has granted you of goodness, just as He kept Musa firm and supported him, similar to how they were supported.' Ibn Rawaha replied, 'And may Allah do goodness to you in return.' [Sahih Al-Bukhari]"

27.203 [Machine] The meritsof Makhrama bin Nawfal Al-Qurashi.
[Machine] "The spaciousness of the son of Nawfal ibn Ahyaab ibn Abd Manaf, and their hearts were connected."
[Machine] "Al-Makhrama bin Nawfal embraced Islam upon the conquest of Makkah. He was knowledgeable about the lineage and traditions of the Quraysh and had knowledge about the noble ancestry of the Holy Sanctuary. Makhrama had a son named Safwan, who was also known as Safwan al-Akbar, meaning Safwan the elder, as he was the eldest among his siblings."
[Machine] I heard Yahya bin Abdullah bin Bukayr saying: "Makhrama bin Nawfal is nicknamed Abu al-Miswar."
[Machine] "Makhrama bin Nawfal witnessed with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ the day of Hunayn. So the Prophet gave him fifty camels from the spoils of Hunayn. Makhrama passed away in Medina in the year forty-five, and he died on the day when he was one hundred and fifteen years old."
[Machine] I heard Sa'id ibn 'Uqbah say, "Makhrama ibn Nawfal al-Qurashi passed away at the age of 115. He embraced Islam on the day of the conquest, and he was among those whose hearts were united."
[Machine] "He made me an orphan in his room, claiming that his strength is enough for him and that he doesn't need me. So Ibn al-Barssai al-Laythi said to him, "He is Abdur Rahman ibn Azhar," and he raised a stick in his hand and struck him, causing his cheek to bruise, and said, 'You have been hostile to us in the time of ignorance and envy us in Islam, and you have come between me and Ibn Azhar.'"
[Machine] This is not how it is recommended, like me saying and yee, it was a striking arrow, a strong father.
[Machine] I visited the Prophet ﷺ with some gifts, and he distributed them among his companions. Then my father said to me, "Come with me to him, for some gifts have reached him." My father spoke to the Prophet ﷺ at the door, and the Prophet ﷺ recognized his voice. So he came out with a garment, and repeating, he said, "I have stored this for you, I have stored this for you."
[Machine] When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ made Islam public, all the people of Makkah embraced Islam before the obligation of performing the prayer was revealed. They would recite the prostration verses but were unable to prostrate, until the leaders of the Quraysh, such as Al-Walid ibn Al-Mughirah and Abu Jahl ibn Hisham, arrived. They were in Ta'if, their territory. They said, "You are leaving the religion of your fathers and becoming disbelievers." Ya'qub ibn Sufyan said, "And we do not know any other narration from Makhrama ibn Nawfal except this one."

Huwaytib replied, 'By Allah, I have been determined to convert to Islam more than once, but your father prevents me and dissuades me. He says that it would bring shame to your people and the religion of your forefathers to follow a new religion and become a follower. So Marwan remained silent and regretted what he had said to him, and then Huwaytib said, 'Didn't Uthman inform you about what your father encountered when he converted?' Marwan became even more distressed, and Huwaytib said, 'There was no one in Quraysh from their prominent figures who remained steadfast in their religion until Mecca was conquered. I disliked what happened to me with its conquest, but it was predestined. I witnessed the Battle of Badr with the polytheists and saw the angels killing and capturing between the heavens and the earth. So I said, 'This is a prohibited man.' And when what I witnessed was mentioned, we were defeated and returned to Mecca. We settled in Mecca, and Quraysh used to surrender one man after another to Muhammad. And when the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah was written, I was the last witness, and I said, 'You will not see anything from Quraysh except what is displeasing. I have accepted it if they defend it with their weapons.' And when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived for 'Umrah al-Qada' and Quraysh left Mecca, I stayed behind in Mecca with Suhayl ibn 'Amr, so that we could prevent the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from leaving when the time comes. And when the three days were completed, I approached Suhayl ibn 'Amr and said, 'Your condition has been fulfilled, so leave our city.' He shouted, 'O Bilal, do not let the sun set while there is still one Muslim in Mecca who came with us.'"

[Machine] O people, remember the blessings of Allah upon you. If you could see what I see - colors of black, red, green, and white, and in the horizons, things that, when prayers are established, the doors of the heavens, gates of Paradise, and gates of hell are opened, and the houris beautify themselves and come forth. Then, when someone advances towards battle, they say, "O Allah, make him steadfast!" And when he retreats, they say, "O Allah, forgive him, O Allah, have mercy on him." So, they strike the faces of people for your sake, O my father and mother, for when one advances, the first drop of his blood erases his sins as the leaves of a tree shed. Two houris descend to him, wipe away the dust from his face, and say to him, "We belong to you." He is then clothed in a hundred robes, which, if it were to be cut in half, could cover the distance between his index and middle finger. It is not woven by the offspring of Adam, but rather from the apparel of Paradise. Indeed, you are written with Allah in your names, appearances, adornments, intimate thoughts, and gatherings. So, on the Day of Resurrection, it will be said, "O so-and-so, this is your light." And to another, "You have no light." And indeed, Hell has a bank like the bank of the sea, filled with serpents, creatures like palm trees, and scorpions like mules. When the people of Hell seek relief, they will be told, "Go to the bank." They will come out, and the serpents will grab their lips and faces. Then, Allah will unveil them and they will seek refuge by escaping from it to the Fire. Then, scabies will be unleashed upon them, causing a person's skin to peel until their bones are exposed. One of them will ask, "O so-and-so, does this hurt you?" He will answer, "Yes." Then it will be said, "This is because of how you used to harm the believers."
