27. Book of the Companions (36/53)
[Machine] As for the two sheikhs, they did not mention anything beyond the virtues. We have started in the first mention of the companion by discussing his lineage and death, then we mentioned what is valid about their conditions from their virtues that they did not mention. So I did not forget to mention Muhammad ibn Umar al-Waqidi and his peers in knowledge.
[Machine] Abu Hurairah died during the reign of Muawiyah in the year fifty-eight. In that same year, Sa'id ibn al-'Aas, Aisha, and Sa'd ibn Malik also passed away.
[Machine] Abu Hurairah died in the year fifty-eight. It is also said that he died in the year fifty-nine, when he was seventy-eight years old.
[Machine] Zaid has a story about you from Abu Hurairah, that one day we, Abu Hurairah, Fulan, and I were in the mosque praying to Allah and remembering our Lord, when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to us and sat with us. He said, "Continue on as you were." Zaid said, "I and my companion supplicated before Abu Hurairah did, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ granted protection to our supplications." Then Abu Hurairah made a supplication and said, "O Allah, I ask You for the same thing that my two companions asked You, and I ask You for knowledge that is not forgotten." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Ameen." We said, "O Messenger of Allah, we also ask Allah for knowledge that is not forgotten." He said, "The Dosayi (a narrator of Hadith) has already surpassed both of you in it." Note: The authenticity of this narration is weak, as it wasn't mentioned by Hammad bin Shuaib.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Abu Hurairah is the vessel of knowledge." Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in the summary.
[Machine] He said, "O Abu Hurairah, what are these narrations that we hear about you speaking about the Prophet ﷺ? Did you hear anything other than what we heard? Did you see anything other than what we saw?"
He replied, "O mother, indeed it was the mirror, kohl, and adornment that used to occupy you from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. But I swear by Allah, nothing else ever occupied me from him."
[Machine] Abu Hurairah was one of the most knowledgeable companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
[Machine] I heard Abu Hurairah saying, "I have memorized from the sayings of the Messenger of Allah peace be upon him, Hadiths that I have narrated to you, and if I were to narrate a Hadith from them, you would stone me with stones."
[Machine] No one among the companions of the Prophet ﷺ narrated more hadith than Abu Huraira. Marwan sent him to Medina and wanted to hear his hadith. He said, "Write it down as we have narrated it." When Abu Huraira refused, he neglected it and sat down to write it himself. Abu Huraira began narrating and the writer wrote until he finished all of his hadith. Then Marwan said, "Do you know that we have written down your entire hadith?" Abu Huraira replied, "Have you done so, and if you obey me, will you erase it?" Marwan remained silent.
[Machine] Marwan invited Abu Huraira and made me sit behind the bed. He started asking him questions while I began writing. When the call of prayer approached, he called for him again and made him sit behind the curtain. He continued asking him about that, but there was no addition or subtraction, neither in the beginning nor the end.
[Machine] "A man said to Ibn Umar, 'Verily, Abu Huraira narrates many hadiths from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ .' Ibn Umar responded, 'I seek refuge with Allah from being doubtful about what he reports, but he was outspoken while we were shy.' Al-Dhahabi refrained from mentioning it in his summary."
[Machine] "Abu Huraira used to be bold in asking the Prophet ﷺ about things that we do not ask him about."
[Machine] From the Prophet ﷺ: "Whoever follows a funeral procession will have a Qirat, and if he witnesses its burial, he will have two Qirats, which are greater in value than the mountain of Uhud." Ibn Umar said to Abu Hurairah, "O Abu Hurairah, look at what you are narrating from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." So Abu Hurairah went to Aisha and said to her, "O Mother of the Believers, I swear to you by Allah, did you hear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'Whoever follows a funeral procession and prays for it will have a Qirat, and if he witnesses its burial, he will have two Qirats'?" She said, "O Allah, yes." Abu Hurairah then said, "We were never too preoccupied with weddings or market transactions to be distracted from the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ teachings. I was only seeking from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ a word to teach me or a morsel of food to feed me." Ibn Umar said to Abu Hurairah, "O Abu Hurairah, you used to keep us close to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and inform us of his sayings."
[Machine] "The ink in the scholar's garment is like beauty in the maiden's first garment." - Its source is unknown.
[Machine] From Abu Hurayrah, in a narration that he denied, so I said, "I have heard it from you." He said, "If you have heard it from me, then indeed it is written with me." He took me by the hand to his house and showed me a book from his collection, which contained the hadith of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . He found that hadith and said, "I have informed you that if I had narrated it to you, then it is written with me." This hadith is rejected and not authentic.
[Machine] I heard in the narration/ hadith that he used to say, "He is the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him."
[Machine] "He sat in a gathering where Abu Huraira was narrating to them about the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . Some of them were denying what he was saying, while others acknowledged it. This happened repeatedly until that day when I realized that Abu Huraira was the most knowledgeable among the people about the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ."
[Machine] "Oh Abu Muhammad, by Allah, we do not know if this Yemeni man knows more about the Messenger of Allah ﷺ than you, or if it is you. Talha turned to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, 'By Allah, he never mentioned something that we did not hear or knew. We were a wealthy people, with houses and families. We used to come to the Prophet ﷺ during the day and then return. Abu Huraira, on the other hand, was poor, without wealth, family, or children. His hand was always with the hand of the Prophet ﷺ , and he accompanied him wherever he went. No one among us accused him of narrating something the Prophet ﷺ did not say."
[Machine] I saw Abu Huraira going out on Friday, and he would hold onto both minbar pillars, standing, and would say, "Abu Al-Qasim, Rasulullah, the truthful and trusted, informed us." He would continue speaking until he heard the opening of the enclosed area for the Imam to go out for prayer, then he would sit down.
[Machine] "He has narrated from him in what has been narrated about him and the narration of others from the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with correct pronunciations." Abu Bakr said, "And Abu Ayyub Al-Ansari has narrated from him with his great status and the descent of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to him."
[Machine] "I arrived at the city, and there Abu Ayyub was talking about Abu Hurairah. So I said, 'You talk about Abu Hurairah, and you are a companion with a high status in the eyes of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ .' He replied, 'Because narrating from Abu Hurairah is dearer to me than narrating from the Prophet ﷺ .' Imam Abu Bakr said, 'From Abu Hurairah's keenness for knowledge, he would narrate from anyone who had even the slightest narration from the Prophet ﷺ . Therefore, he narrated from Sahl ibn Sa'd as-Sa'idi.'"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "None of you should openly show a sword to his brother, for perhaps Satan will take it and he will fall into one of the pits of Hellfire."
Abu Hurairah said, "I heard this from Sahl bin Saad As-Sa'idi, who heard it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ."
Abu Bakr said, "His eagerness for knowledge led him to listen to news that he had not heard from the Prophet ﷺ . He only spoke about Abu Hurairah to refute the claims of those whose hearts Allah had blinded, so they did not understand the meanings of the news. Either they were obstinate Jahmiyyun who heard his news, which contradicted their beliefs, and they would curse Abu Hurairah and accuse him of what Allah, the Exalted, had cleared him of. They did this to deceive the common people and the lowly ones, claiming that his news was not credible. Or it was an outsider who saw the sword over the Ummah of Muhammad ﷺ , but did not see obedience to the Khalifah or Imam when he heard Abu Hurairah's news about the Prophet ﷺ , which contradicted his beliefs. He was unable to find any way to refute his news with evidence, and the issue disturbed him. Either he was deceived by Abu Hurairah or he abandoned Islam and its people and declared the people of Islam who followed predestined events, which Allah decreed before His servants earned their portion. If such a person looked at Abu Hurairah's news, which he narrated from the Prophet ﷺ , affirming predestination, he would not find any argument to prove the authenticity of his claim, which is disbelief and polytheism. In this situation, Abu Hurairah thought that his news was not appropriate to be used as evidence. The ignorant person, who deals with jurisprudence and seeks it from other than its masters, when he hears Abu Hurairah's news in contradiction to the school of thought he has chosen and depends on, he cannot find any solution except to oppose Abu Hurairah's news without any evidence or justification. He would refute his news and use Abu Hurairah's own news as an argument against him if his news agreed with his school of thought. Some of the sects have criticized Abu Hurairah for some of his narrations that they did not understand. I, by the will of Allah, mention some of them here."
Abu Bakr Al-Ajurri (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned in this context the Hadith of Aisha, which I have already mentioned, the Hadith of Abu Hurairah about a woman being punished in a cat, and the Hadith of Ibn Umar about ablution with what the fire has touched. He mentioned them, and talking about them is lengthy.
