27. Book of the Companions (6/53)
[Machine] As for the two sheikhs, they did not mention anything beyond the virtues. We have started in the first mention of the companion by discussing his lineage and death, then we mentioned what is valid about their conditions from their virtues that they did not mention. So I did not forget to mention Muhammad ibn Umar al-Waqidi and his peers in knowledge.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said on the day of Badr to me and Abu Bakr, "On the right of one of you, there is Jibril, and on the right of the other, there is Mikail, and Israfil is a great angel who witnesses the fight and is in the front line."
[Machine] Ali ibn Abi Talib complained to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , so he stood among us as a speaker and I heard him say, "O people, do not complain about Ali, for by Allah, he is the most fearful in the presence of Allah and in the way of Allah."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "Which one of you will be my deputy in this world and the Hereafter?" Each of them replied, "Will you be my deputy in this world and the Hereafter?" Until it came to Ali, who said, "I will be your deputy in this world and the Hereafter." The Prophet ﷺ then said, "You are my deputy in this world and the Hereafter."
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying to Ali: "O Ali, blessed is he who loves you, believes in you, and woe to he who hates you and denies you."
[Machine] "Ali, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me to Yemen. So, I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I am a young man and I receive judgments that I do not have knowledge about.' He placed his hand on my chest and said, 'O Allah, make his tongue firm and guide his heart.' After that, I never doubted any judgment or any decree."
[Machine] While I was with the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him), a man from Yemen came and started talking to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) and informing him. He said, "O Messenger of Allah, three men came to Ali and they are quarreling over a child. They agreed on one woman when she was in her purity. He (Ali) said to them: 'Both of you have good intentions regarding this child.' Then he said: 'You are partners in dispute. I will resolve the matter between you. Whoever I decide for, the child will be his, and he will pay two-thirds of the blood money to the other. So he resolved the matter between them and decided for one of them, and he gave him the child." The Prophet (Peace be upon him) laughed until his molars were visible.
[Machine] The Prophet (pbuh) said, "I do not know about it except for what Ali said."
[Machine] "I walked with the Prophet ﷺ to a woman who slaughtered a sheep for us. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'A man from the people of Jannah (Paradise) will enter.' Then Abu Bakr entered, and then the Prophet ﷺ said, 'A man from the people of Jannah will enter.' Then Umar entered, and then the Prophet ﷺ said, 'A man from the people of Jannah will enter.' O Allah, if You will, make him Ali bin Abi Talib.' Then Ali bin Abi Talib entered."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The first among you to enter Paradise is the first among you who embraced Islam, Ali ibn Abi Talib." Adh-Dhahabi did not include this in his summarization.
[Machine] "The first person to embrace Islam along with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was Ali bin Abi Talib."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ entered upon Fatimah and said, "Indeed, me, you, and this sleeper, meaning Ali, and these two, meaning Hasan and Husayn, will be in the same place on the Day of Judgment."
[Machine] I asked Sa'id ibn Jubayr and said, "O Abu Abdullah, who carried the flag of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ?" He looked at me and said, "You seem to be in a state of confusion." I became angry and complained about him to his brothers from the Qur'ra (reciters). I said to them, "Are you not amazed by Sa'id? I asked him who carried the flag of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he looked at me and said, 'You seem to be in a state of confusion.'" They said, "You asked him while he was afraid of Al-Hajjaj and had sought refuge in the Ka'bah, so ask him now." So, I asked him and he said, "Ali carried it. This is what I heard from Abdullah ibn Abbas."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Paradise longs for three: Ali, Al-Ammar, and Salman."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I asked my Lord, the Exalted and Glorious, that I should not marry anyone from my Ummah unless they are with me in Paradise, and He granted me this."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: It has been revealed to me regarding Ali three things, that he is the leader of the Muslims, the Imam of the righteous, and the commander of the brave warriors.
[Machine] And by Allah, if I meet him, I do not expect you to find him on the Day of Judgment standing by the pool of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, warding off the hypocrites with a staff made of 'Ausaj'. This was narrated to me by the trustworthy and truthful one, peace be upon him. Woe to the one who fabricates such lies!
The Messenger of Allah ؓ said: ʿShall I not teach you some words which, if you say them you will be forgiven, even though you are already forgiven: There is no god but Allah, Most High, the Almighty; there is no god but Him, the most Forbearing the Most Generous; glory be to Allah, Lord of the Mighty Throne; praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds.” (Using translation from Aḥmad 1363)
[Machine] "And I swear by the One whom I have taken an oath of allegiance to, if Ali were to make a covenant with the people, he would be the closest to the Prophet ﷺ. We returned to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the morning, and he was saying, 'Has Ali come? Has Ali come?' repeatedly. Fatimah said, 'It is as if you have sent him on an errand.' She then said, 'He came afterwards.' Abi Salamah said, 'I thought he had some urgent need for him.' So we left the house and sat by the door, and I was closest to the door. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came and poured his left hand on him and spoke to him privately. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away that day. So Ali was the closest to the people in commitment."
[Machine] While the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was holding my hand as we were walking in the streets of Madinah, we passed by a garden. I said, "O Messenger of Allah, how beautiful this garden is!" He replied, "You will have something much better than this in Paradise."
[Machine] I entered with the Prophet ﷺ to visit Ali ibn Abi Talib while he was sick. Abu Bakr and Umar were also present. They both changed their positions until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat down. One of them said to his companion, "I see nothing except his destruction." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "He will not die except as a martyr and he will not die until he is filled with anger."
[Machine] The following translation is not authentic: "The Prophet ﷺ ordered Ali bin Abi Talib to fight adulterers, oppressors, and rebels."
[Machine] I heard the Prophet ﷺ saying to Ali ibn Abi Talib, "You will fight against the traitors, the oppressors, and the rebels with swords, arrows, and spears." Abu Ayyub said, "O Messenger of Allah, with whom will you fight these people?" He said, "With Ali ibn Abi Talib."
[Machine] Indeed, one of the things that the Prophet ﷺ entrusted to me is that the nation will betray me after him.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said to Ali, "Verily, you will face challenges after me." Ali asked, "Will I be safe in my religion?" The Prophet replied, "You will be safe in your religion."
[Machine] "Do not come to Iraq, for if you do, you will be struck by the sword's flies." Ali said, "By Allah, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said this to me before you." Abu Al-Aswad said, "I said to myself, 'O Allah, I have never seen a warrior speaking to people like this today.'"
[Machine] I and Ali were companions in the Battle of Dhi Al-'Ashirah. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived at the place and stayed there, we saw some people from the tribe of Mudlij working in a date palm grove. Ali said to me, "O Abu Al-Yaqzhan, would you like to go and see what they are doing?" So we went to them and watched their work for a while. Then we felt sleepy and laid down on some palm tree trunks covered with soil. By Allah, only the Messenger of Allah ﷺ woke us up by gently moving us with his foot. We had become dirty with that soil. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, "O Abu Turab, for the dust that is seen on you." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Shall I inform you about the most wretched men?" We said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Al-Ohaymir, the Thamudite who hamstrung the she-camel, and the one who will harm you, O Ali, with this," and he pointed to his head, meaning the horn, "until blood will come out from it," meaning his beard.
[Machine] "When Ali went to Siffin and I disliked fighting, so I came to the city and entered upon Maymuna bint Al-Harith. She asked, "Who are you?" I said, "I am from the people of Kufa." She asked, "Which group of them?" I said, "From the Banu 'Amir." She said, "Welcome, you are among generous people and close kin. What has brought you here?" I said, "Ali went to Siffin, and I disliked fighting, so we came here." She asked, "Did you pledge allegiance to him?" I said, "Yes." She said, "Then go back to him and be with him, for by Allah, he will not deviate nor lead others astray.""
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Looking at Ali is an act of worship."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Looking at the face of Ali is an act of worship." This statement was transmitted by Amr ibn Murrah from Ibrahim al-Nakha'i.

They asked, 'Who, O Amir al-Mu'minin?' He replied, 'With Umm Kulthum bint Ali, the daughter of Fatimah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Every relationship and alliance will be severed on the Day of Judgment, except for what is from me and my lineage. So I wanted there to be a relationship and alliance between me and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If you appoint Abu Bakr as a leader, he will be ascetic in worldly affairs, desiring the Hereafter, and he will have physical weakness. And if you appoint Umar, he will be strong and trustworthy, unafraid of blaming in Allah's cause. And if you appoint Ali, he will guide and lead you upon a straight path."

27.15 [Machine] The Killing of Amir al-Mu'minin Ali ibn Abi Talib in the Most Authentic Chains of Narrators in a Summarized Manner
[Machine] A delegation from the people of Basra arrived to Ali, and among them was a man from the Khawarij known as Al-Jaad bin Na'jah. He praised and thanked Allah and sent blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ , then he said, "Fear Allah, O Ali, for indeed you are going to die." Ali replied, "No, but I am going to be killed by a blow on this head that will stain this turban." Ali pointed towards his head and beard with his hand and said, "It is a predestined fate and a promised covenant, and whoever claims otherwise is mistaken." Then he criticized Ali's clothing, to which Ali replied, "If I had worn clothing better than this, it would have made me more distant from humility, and I am more deserving that Muslims follow my example." Al-Dhahabi remained silent about this incident in his summary.
[Machine] Ali was killed on the morning of the twenty-first day of Ramadan. Then I heard Hasan ibn Ali say while delivering a sermon and mentioning the virtues of Ali, he said, "He was killed on the night when the Quran was revealed, and on the night when Jesus was ascended, and on the night when Moses passed away." Hasan ibn Ali then prayed for peace upon them.

[Machine] It is said that she was called Qatam. She was married and divorced, and her dowry was 3,000 dirhams. Ali was killed. In this regard, Al-Farazdaq said in Al-Bahr Al-Taweel, "I have never seen a dowry carried by a commendable person like the dowry of Qatam, which was three thousand dirhams, a slave, a freed slave, and Ali was killed with a designated sword." So there is no dowry more valuable than Ali, even if it becomes expensive. And there is no killing except by the killing of Ibn Muljam." The narration does not mention the response of Al-Dhahabi.

If I live, it will be reconciliation or punishment, and if I die, treat him kindly and seek justice for him, for I have made him my plaintiff before my Lord, the Exalted and Majestic." Al-Dhahabi remained silent about this in the summary.
[Machine] When they brought the son of Muljam to Ali, he said, "Do to him what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did to a man who was given permission to kill him, so he ordered that he be killed and burned with fire." Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in his summary.

[Machine] From the ship of Abu Abd al-Rahman, the slave of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ , it is narrated that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, "The caliphate of prophethood will last for thirty years." Said Sa'id, "Abu Bakr's caliphate lasted for two years, Umar ibn al-Khattab's lasted for ten years, Uthman ibn Affan's lasted for twelve years, and Ali's lasted for six years." Al-Dhahabi removed it from the summary due to its weakness.

[Machine] "I leave you as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ left us." We said, "O Messenger of Allah, appoint a successor over us." He said, "If Allah knows any good in you, He will guide you to the best among you." 'Ali said, "So Allah guided us to the best among us, and he appointed Abu Bakr as our leader." (This hadith is extracted from Al-Talkhis by Al-Dhahabi due to its weakness.)

[Machine] "O Amir al-Mu'minin, who will succeed us?" He said, "If Allah knows goodness in your hearts, He will appoint the best among you as your successor." Sa'sa'a said, "But Allah knows evil in our hearts, so He appointed us as successors." Al-Dhahabi deleted it from the summary due to its weakness.

27.16 [Machine] The Mention of the Clear Statement that Amir al-Mu'minin Ali ibn Abi Talib (May Allah be pleased with him)
[Machine] A group remained from his loyal companions, and they left in order to remember him. Among them were Abu Bakr, Umar, and Uthman. They were not from the common people, and others from the companions of the Messenger of Allah also supported them until they separated from them. They then went towards Harura', from among them was Abdullah ibn Al-Kawwa' Al-Yashkuri and Shabib ibn Rib'i Al-Tamimi.
[Machine] That Abdullah ibn al-Kawwa' and Shabib ibn Rib'i and others with them separated from Ali after he left Siffin for Kufa, due to their disagreement about the derogatory comments made by Abu Bakr and Umar towards them. Therefore, anyone who came after them from the companions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ opposed Ali and went against him. Ali and his supporters confronted them without fighting. In a hadith narrated by Abu Ishaq al-Fazari from Shu'ba from Salamah ibn Kuhayl from Abu Juhaifah Ziyadah, there are words of Ali's faith: "Verily, I do not reside with you in a land until I meet Allah, the Almighty." Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in his summary.
