12. Ḥajj and ʿUmrah (18/34)
[Machine] I wished that I had sought permission from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, as Saudah sought permission from him, so I could pray the morning prayer in Mina and stone the Jamrah before the people arrived. They asked Aisha, and Saudah sought permission? She said, "Yes, indeed. She was a heavy, slow woman, so he granted her permission."
[Machine] We used to play and have fun during the time of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, from Jamm to Mina.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ ordered some of his wives to go out for an expedition at night.
12.207 [Machine] Who stayed at Muzdalifah until dawn?
[Machine] Narrated by Jaber bin Abdullah, the Prophet ﷺ performed the Maghrib and Isha prayers at Muzdalifah with the call to prayer and iqamah. He did not pray anything between them. Then, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ laid down until Fajr approached, then he prayed Fajr when the dawn became clear to him with the call to prayer and iqamah. Then, he rode on Al-Qaswa until he reached Al-Mash'ar Al-Haram, and he praised and glorified Allah and said the Talbiyah. He continued standing there until it became bright, then he proceeded before the sun rose. Ibn Abbas added merit to this event.
12.208 [Machine] Praying Fajr at Muzdalifah
[Machine] Abdullah said, "I have never seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ praying a prayer outside its prescribed time, except for two prayers. He combined the Maghrib and Isha prayers in congregation, and he prayed the Fajr prayer before its prescribed time."
12.209 [Machine] Payment from Muzdalifah before sunrise
[Machine] Indeed, the polytheists used to not disperse until the sun rises and they would say, "Let the Thabir arise!" And indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ opposed them, so he would disperse before the rising of the sun.
[Machine] Ma'mar, I went with Ayoub until we reached his residence. There, he found a group of Alawites and was speaking with them. When he saw Ayoub, he stood up and left his residence until he embraced Ayoub. Then, he took him by the hand and turned him towards another residence. Ma'mar said, "I disliked sitting with them." He then called for a plate of dates and started feeding Ayoub with his own hand. He then said, "Go to these people with a plate. If we send it to them, they will leave us alone. If not, they will harm us." Ayoub asked him, "What have I heard about you?" He replied, "And what have you heard about me?" Ayoub said, "I heard that you commanded people not to distribute from a collection until the sun rises." He (Ayoub) said, "Glory be to Allah! This is against the sunnah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . My father narrated to me from Jabir bin Abdullah that the Prophet ﷺ distributed from a collection before the sun rose. But people make false allegations against us and say things that we never said. They claim that we have knowledge that others do not possess. By Allah, some people have knowledge that we do not have, but we have rights and kindred. He (Ayoub) continued to mention their rights and kindred until I saw tears streaming from the eyes of Ayoub.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ delivered a sermon to us at Arafat. He praised and glorified Allah, and then he said, "As for what comes after, the people of paganism and idols used to repel (the pilgrims) from here, at sunset, until the sun is over the mountain tops, like the size of men's turbans upon their heads. Our sacrificial animals would be contrary to their sacrificial animals. And they used to repel (the pilgrims) from the sacred precincts, when the sun rises over the mountain tops, like the size of men's turbans upon their heads. Our sacrificial animals would be contrary to their sacrificial animals."
[Machine] I saw Abu Bakr standing on a rainbow and he was saying, "O people, wake up, O people, wake up!" Then he pushed (something) and said, "Indeed, I see that his thigh has been exposed from what is irritating his camel at its knee."

12.210 [Machine] Submission in the Valley of Difficulty
[Machine] Jabir reported about the Hajj of the Prophet ﷺ , he said, "Until when he reached Muzdalifah, he moved a little."
"The Messenger of Allah departed (From Arafat) in a tranquil manner, and he enjoined them to be tranquil. He hurried in the valley of Muhassir and told them to stone the Jamrat with (pebbles like date stones or fingertips. (Daif) (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3021)
[Machine] That the Prophet ﷺ continued from a gathering until he reached a narrow passage, then his camel got scared and crossed the valley, so he stopped and threw the pebbles at the Jamrah.
[Machine] He said, "When it was the day of Arafah and the virtue (Fadl) was in the company of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the people were crowded around the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. So when the people increased, I said, 'The virtue (Fadl) will inform me of what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has done.' The virtue (Fadl) said, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ pushed and the people also pushed with him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ held the reins of his camel and called the people, 'Upon you is tranquility!' When he reached Muzdalifah, he descended and performed the Maghrib and Isha prayers together and then when the dawn came, he prayed the Fajr prayer. Then he stood at Muzdalifah near the sacred Ma'shar. He pushed and the people also pushed with him. He held the head of his camel and said, 'O people, upon you is tranquility!' When he reached Muhassir, he put something down and said, 'Upon you is (collecting) the pebbles for Stoning (the pillars of Jamrat).' And he would say this repeatedly."

[Machine] "About Umar, i.e., losing oneself in a narrow valley."
[Machine] That Abdullah ibn Umar used to move his camel within the distance of a stone's throw in a narrow path.
[Machine] When she would leave in the morning for Muzdalifah, if her dhabiha (sacrificial animal) had a tie around its belly, she would say to me: “Restrict the dhabiha and raise it up.” She said: “So I would restrict it one day, and the dhabiha would fall on her hands while the tie was around it, then I would restrict it a second time and Allah would raise it up, and it would not harm her at all. And she would raise her dhabiha until it cut the belly that had the tie, and it would enter the belly of Mina and we would rest in that. This is narrated by Abdullah Ibn Mas'ud and Hussain Ibn Ali.
12.211 [Machine] Who doesn't like to lose?
[Machine] The waste began only with the Bedouins who used to stand on the outskirts of people, and they would hang their clothes and staffs. When they stood up, they would clatter and frighten the people. I have indeed seen the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , and his camels' hump would touch his saddle, while he would say, "O people, be calm."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then descended from Arafat and mentioned the hadith until he reached a gathering. Then Al-Fadl ibn Abbas continued and said, "O people, righteousness is not in turning away from horses and camels. So, it is upon you to maintain tranquility. I have not seen anyone raising their hands in supplication until he came from Mina."
[Machine] With the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from Arafat, his mount did not move its legs normally until it reached Jamarat. Al-Fadl ibn Abbas narrated that it was the case with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from Jamarat, his mount did not move its legs normally until he threw the pebble. The words of the Muqirriyat were mentioned in another narration, and in the narration of Affan, it was mentioned that Usama ibn Zaid narrated that it was the case with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the evening of Arafat, and when he dismounted, he said in the second narration, "Indeed, Al-Fadl ibn Abbas narrated it and we were also narrated from Tawus Al-Yamani, from the Prophet ﷺ." And he used to disapprove of hastiness. And it was narrated from Ata that he said, "Indeed, these people hasten because they want to avoid the dust, and we were narrated the hastening in the valley of Muhassir from the Prophet ﷺ, then from a group of companions." And the correct opinion regarding this matter is the opinion of those who affirmed it rather than those who denied it. And with Allah is the facilitation.

12.212 [Machine] Taking pebbles for stoning the "Jamrat al-Aqaba" and its procedure
Ibn 'Abbas narrated from al-Fadl b. Abbas (Allah be pleased with them) who sat behind Messenger of Allah ﷺ that he (the Holy Prophet) said to the people on the evening of 'Arafa and on the morning to the gathering of people (at Muzdalifa) as they were pushing on to proceed slowly. And he himself drove his she-camel with restraint until he entered Muhassir (it is a place in Mina), and further told them to take up pebbles which were to be thrown at Jamra. And Messenger of Allah ﷺ continued pronouncing Talbiya till he stoned the Jamra. (Using translation from Muslim 1282a)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said to me on the morning of the day of sacrifice, "Bring me pebbles." So, I gathered pebbles for him, as many as the pebbles used in al-Kadhf (stoning the Devil during Hajj rituals). I placed them in his hand, and he said, "With these (pebbles), may the likes of these (people) be destroyed." And he warned against extremism, saying, "Beware of extremism in religion, for indeed, what destroyed those who came before you was extremism in religion."
[Machine] "That the Prophet ﷺ commanded them to throw stones like the size of pebbles."
[Machine] That he heard Jabir ibn Abdullah say: I saw the Prophet (PBUH) throwing the pebbles at the Jamarat as if they were the size of lentils.
[Machine] I heard the Prophet ﷺ teaching the people about their rituals and he said, "Throw the pebbles at the Jamrah (pillar) as if you are throwing them at a target."
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressed us when we were at Mina. Our ears were open and we were listening to what he was saying, while we were in our dwellings. He began to teach them the rites of hajj till he reached the injunction of throwing pebbles at the Jamrahs (pillars at Mina). He put his forefingers in his ears and said: (Throw small pebbles. He then commanded the Emigrants (Muhajirun) to station themselves. They stationed themselves before the mosque. He then commanded the Helpers (Ansar) to encamp. They encamped behind the mosque. Thereafter the people encamped. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1957)
[Machine] I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ throwing stones at the Jamarat from the bottom of the valley, and a man standing behind him protecting him from the stones. The Prophet ﷺ said, "O people, do not kill each other, and when you throw the stones at the Jamarat, throw them as if they were the pebbles of Hammurabi."
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the depth of the valley while he was stoning the Jamrah (the pillar representing Satan), and he was saying, "O people, do not kill one another, and when you stone the Jamrah, throw pebbles like the size of Al-Khadhf."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O people, do not kill yourselves by throwing yourselves into the fire of Al-Aqaba, but instead take handfuls of pebbles like the tossing of a pebble, as Hajjaj and Ata said that the tossing of pebbles should be like the tip of the finger. Our sheikh Umm Jundub did not confirm it, and she is Umm Jundub. Ahmad bin Manie narrated it from Yazid bin Haroun, and Abu Isa Al-Tirmidhi said, "I asked Al-Bukhari about this hadith, and he said, 'Her name is Umm Jundub.' I said, 'What about the hadith of Hajjaj?' He said, 'I think that Hajjaj took it from Yazid bin Abi Ziyad, and I think it is the hadith of Sulaiman bin Amr, narrated from his mother.'"
[Machine] Al-Shafi'i and from where he took his opinion is that I dislike taking stones from the mosque so that the mosque does not lose its stones, and so that it does not become impure, and so that the Jamarat does not suffer because it is unaccepted stones. The sheikh said, and we have narrated in the book of prayer from Abu Salih who narrated from Abu Huraira raised that the stones speak to the one who takes them out of the mosque.
[Machine] What is accepted from them is raised, and what is not accepted from them is left. And if it weren't for that, the gap between the two mountains would have been closed. And we were told by Sufyan Ath-Thawri from Ibn Khuthaym from Abu At-Tufayl from Ibn Abbas that he said "A angel was assigned to it. What is accepted from it is raised, and what is not accepted from it is left." And Sufyan said "Sulayman Al-Abssi narrated to me from Ibn Abi Nuaim that he said, 'I asked Abu Sa'id about throwing the pebbles.' He said to me, 'What is accepted from it is raised. And if it weren't for that, it would have been longer than Thabir.'"
[Machine] Abu Bakr Al-Asbahani, the Hafiz, informed me about these two narrations. Abu Nasr Al-Iraqi narrated to him that Sufyan ibn Muhammad narrated to him from Ali ibn Al-Hasan, who narrated from Abdullah ibn Al-Waleed, who narrated from Sufyan. Both of them mentioned it, and Sufyan narrated the hadith from Ubaidullah, from Nafi', from Ibn Umar, that he used to dislike relieving himself in groups and it is also narrated from Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri as a Marfu' hadith from a weak chain of narrators.
[Machine] We said, "O Messenger of Allah, these stones that are thrown and carried, it is thought that they sink." He said, "Whatever is accepted from it is raised. If it were not for that, you would see them like mountains." Yazid ibn Sinan is not strong in Hadith, and it is narrated from another source weakly from Ibn Umar, with a raised (elevated) chain of narration.
12.213 [Machine] Arrival to Mina, and he does not leave until he throws the Jamrat al-Aqaba with seven pebbles, increasing the size with each pebble.

[Machine] Narrated Jabir: During the Hajj of the Prophet ﷺ , he said, "Then he walked on the middle way till he reached the Jamrat-ul-Aqaba (Jamrat-ul-Kubra) (the Great Jamra), offered the (obligatory) sacrifice, shaved his head, and did not perform the Tawaf-ul-Ifada (because there was none to perform it)."

12.214 [Machine] Stoning the Jamarat from the bottom of the valley, and the method of standing for the stoning.
I heard Al-Hajjaj bin Yusuf saying while delivering a sermon on the pulpit: "Memorize the Quran as Jibrilﷺ memorized it, namely the Surah Al-Baqarah, the Surah in which women are mentioned, and the Surah in which the family of Imran is mentioned." Then I met Ibrahim and informed him of what Al-Hajjaj said. Ibrahim cursed him and then said to me, "Abdul Rahman bin Yazid informed me that he was with Abdullah bin Mas'ud when they arrived at Al-Aqaba (a specific place) and he hid in the valley. Then, he cited the verses from Surah Al-Baqarah and threw seven stones, making the takbeer (saying Allahu Akbar) with each stone. I said, 'O Abu Abdullah, people throw them from above it.' He replied, 'By the One besides Whom none has the right to be worshipped, this is the point where Surah Al-Baqarah was revealed.'"
[Machine] He said, "This is how the one to whom Surah Al-Baqarah was revealed threw the pebbles." Abu Abdullah narrated the hadith, and in the narration of Ar-Roohbaarri, he said, "I performed Hajj with Abdullah. When he reached Mina, he stood to the right of me and the Kaaba was to his left. He threw the pebbles at the Jamrah seven times and said, 'This is the place where Surah Al-Baqarah was revealed.'
[Machine] I accompanied Abdullah in a gathering and he kept doing the talbiyah until he threw the pebble at Al-Aqaba and then he took shelter in the valley. He then said, "O my nephew, hand me seven stones." So, he threw them with seven pebbles, saying the talbiyah with every pebble. When he finished, he said, "O Allah, make it a Hajj (accepted pilgrimage) that is well-performed and sins forgiven." Then he said, "This is how I saw the one upon whom Surah Al-Baqarah was revealed acting."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ used to throw the pebbles at this place and would say, "Whenever I throw a stone like what I said, Abdullah ibn Hakim is weak and Allah knows best."
12.215 [Machine] Throwing the Jamrah al-Aqabah while riding
[Machine] I heard Jabir ibn Abdullah say, "I saw the Prophet ﷺ throwing pebbles at his mount."
I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ throwing pebbles on the day of sacrifice while on his riding beast and saying: Learn your rites, for I do not know whether I am likely to perform Hajj after this occasion. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1970)
[Machine] I heard her say that she performed the farewell Hajj with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . I saw him when he stoned the Jamarat al-Aqaba and then departed while he was on his mount, accompanied by Bilal and Osama. One of them led his mount while the other held up his garment above the head of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to shield him from the sun.
[Machine] I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ riding near the Jamarat Al-Aqaba, and behind him was a man covering him from the people's throwing. He said: "O people, do not kill each other. And whoever throws the pebbles at the Jamrah, let him throw it with the same amount as the stones used in stoning." She said: "I saw a stone between his fingers." She said: "He threw it and the people also threw, and then he left."
On the authority of his mother: I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ throwing pebbles at the jamrah from the botton of wadi (valley) while he was riding (on a camel). He was uttering the takbir (Allah is most great) with each pebble. A man behind him was shading him. I asked about the man. They (the people) said: He is al-Fadl b. al-'Abbas. The people crowded. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'O people, do not kill each other ; when you throw pebbled at the jamrah, throw small pebbles. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1966)
“I saw the Prophet ﷺ stone the Pillar, on the Day of Sacrifice, from atop a reddish-brown camel of his, without beating anyone, driving them off or telling them to go away.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3035)
12.216 [Machine] The recommendation to descend during the last two days.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to throw the pebbles at Al-Aqaba while riding his camel, saying the Takbeer with each pebble. Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that when these days, referring to the days of Tashreeq, came, the Prophet ﷺ would go to Mina on foot, both while going and returning, and he mentioned that the Prophet ﷺ used to do this.
[Machine] He used to come to Al-Jimar for three days after the day of sacrifice, going and coming, and inform them that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to do the same.
[Machine] The sheikh, if the narration of Al-Omari is authentic, would be more deserving of following, and with Allah is the success.
[Machine] People used to walk back and forth when they threw stones during the stoning ritual, and the first person to ride on a camel was Muawiyah ibn Abi Sufyan.
[Machine] He should not ride on anything made of camel leather except out of necessity. I found this in my book and it has been removed from its chain of narrators between Ibrahim and Ata. The narration of Ibn Uyaynah is the most authentic.

[Machine] I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ throw the pebble at Al-Aqabah on the first day of Dhul-Hijjah, when there was only one pebble. As for after that, it was after the sun had set.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent ahead some boys from Banu AbdulMuttalib on donkeys on the night of al-Muzdalifah. He began to pat our thighs (out of love) and said: O young! boys do not throw pebbles at the jamrah till the sun rises. Abu Dawud said: The Arabic word al-lath means to strike softly. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1940)
