12. Ḥajj and ʿUmrah
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , threw pebbles and said that it is a sunnah (practice). I said, "Did they believe and disbelieve?" He said, "Indeed, the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , had arrived and the polytheists were on the verge of attacking. The people of Mecca were a jealous people, so they started talking among themselves that the companions of the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , are weak. So the Messenger of Allah said, 'Should I show them something that they dislike?' So he threw pebbles in order to show the polytheists his strength and the strength of his companions. But it is not a sunnah." I said, "Indeed, your people claim that the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , rode between Safa and Marwa and that it is a sunnah." He said, "They believed and disbelieved." I said, "Did the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , arrive in Mecca?" He said, "Yes, he arrived in Mecca and the people of Mecca were a jealous people, so they came out until the blind man looked at the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , and the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , did not stop him. He said, 'They are increasing in favor of him' meaning that they were not being pushed away from him. So he rode and walking was more beloved to him; that is the narration of Abu Abdullah."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his companions arrived, weakened by fever due to the heat of Yathrib. The polytheists said, "A group is advancing towards you, weakened by fever." So they sat down for them beside the stones. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered them to stone the three (pillars) and to walk between the two corners. He did not prevent them from stoning the entire rounds except that he instructed them to retain one (round). Abu Muslim did not mention the fever of Yathrib.
Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his Companions came to Mecca and the fever in Medina had weakened them. Thereupon the polytheists (of Mecca) said: There would come to you a people whom the fever has made weak and they have suffered severely from it. They sat in Hatim. Thereupon Allah's Apostle ﷺ commanded them to walk quickly ift three circuits and walk (in four) between the two corners. so that the polytheists should. see their endurance. The polytheists then said (to one anothery You were under the impression that fever had emaciated them. whereas they are stronger than so and so. Ibn Abbas said: He (the Holy Prophet) did not command them (the Muslims) to walk quickly in all the circuits out of kindness to them. (Using translation from Muslim 1266a)

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, may ﷺ , made efforts between the Safa and Marwa hills to show the strength to the disbelievers.
The Prophet ﷺ hastened in going around the Kaʿba and between the Safa and Marwa in order to show the pagans his strength. Ibn ʿAbbas added, "When the Prophet ﷺ arrived (at Mecca) in the year of peace (following that of Al-Hudaibiya treaty with the pagans of Mecca), he (ordered his companions) to do Ramal in order to show their strength to the pagans and the pagans were watching (the Muslims) from (the hill of) Quaiqan.
