12. Ḥajj and ʿUmrah
[Machine] I said to Ibn Umar, "O Abu Abdur Rahman, a group claims that there is no predestination. Is there anyone among them from us?" He replied, "No." So I said to him, "Then inform them from me that Ibn Umar is innocent in the sight of Allah from all of you, and you are innocent in his sight. I heard Umar ibn Al-Khattab saying, while we were sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, a man with disheveled hair and clothes that showed he had been traveling approached and did not seek permission to join us, but rather sat in front of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ just as one of us would sit in prayer. Then he placed his hand on the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ knee and said, 'O Muhammad, what is Islam?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, 'Islam is to testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, to establish the prayer, to give the obligatory charity, to perform pilgrimage to the House, to observe fasting during the month of Ramadan.' The man said, 'If I said that, would I be considered a Muslim?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Yes.' The man said, 'You have spoken the truth.' And he mentioned the hadith."
[Machine] He said, "O Messenger of Allah, indeed my father is elderly and is unable to perform Hajj, Umrah, and Tha'nah." He (the Prophet) said, "Perform Hajj on behalf of your father and perform Umrah." Abu Abdullah Al-Hafiz informed us, Ali ibn Hamshadh informed us, Ahmad ibn Salamah said, "I asked Muslim ibn Hajjaj about this hadith, meaning the hadith of Abu Razin. He said, "I heard Ahmad ibn Hanbal saying, 'I do not know of a more authentic hadith regarding the obligation of Umrah than this one. No one has narrated it more meticulously than Shu'bah.'"
[Machine] "O Messenger of Allah, do women have jihad? He said, yes, jihad without fighting, their pilgrimage and Umrah are their jihad as well."
"Jihad of the elderly, the young, the weak, and women, is Hajj and 'Umarah."(Sahah) (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2626)
[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Hajj and Umrah are two obligatory acts of worship." I was informed by Abu Saad al-Zahid, who informed me that Abu al-Hasan Muhammad bin al-Hasan bin Ismail al-Darir narrated to him that Ja'far bin Muhammad al-Firiyabi narrated to him, who narrated from Qutaybah, who narrated from Ibn Lahiah, who mentioned it. And Ibn Lahiah is not considered a reliable source for this narration. And in the narration of Sabi ibn Ma'bad, he said to Umar ibn al-Khattab: "I found Hajj and Umrah written for me and I have performed them." Umar responded: "You have followed the Sunnah of your Prophet ﷺ ." And this is mentioned if Allah wills, in the chapter regarding Qarin, which refers to the sacrifice of an animal during Hajj and Umrah.
[Machine] Abdullah ibn Umar used to say that there is no person created by Allah except that they must perform the obligatory Hajj and Umrah, if they are able to do so. And whoever does anything extra after that, it is better and voluntary.
[Machine] "He said that umrah is obligatory, like hajj, for those who are able to do it. Abu Abdur Rahman As-Sulami and Abu Bakr Ibn Al-Harith said that Ali Ibn Umar Al-Hafiz reported to us that Abu Muhammad Ibn Sa'id narrated to us, who narrated from Abu Ubaidullah Al-Makhzumi, who narrated from Hisham Ibn Sulaiman and Abdul Majid Ibn Abdul Aziz, who reported from Ibn Jurayj, who mentioned it in a similar way, except that he said Ibn Jurayj said, and I was informed by Ikrimah that Ibn Abbas said, and he mentioned it."
[Machine] "And by Allah, indeed she is his wife in the book of Allah, 'And complete the Hajj and Umrah for Allah' " [Al-Baqarah 196]
[Machine] The passage translates to: "The acts of devotion for Allah, whichever of them you begin with, will not harm you."
[Machine] From Ibn Sirin, it is reported as Marfu' (narration) and the authentic (hadith) is considered as Mawquf (stopping).
[Machine] I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ something about it, so I said, "Umrah is obligatory just like Hajj."
[Machine] Abdullah said, "You have been commanded to establish four [things]: establish the prayer, give the zakat, perform the Hajj, and perform the Umrah to the House. And Hajj is the greater Hajj, and Umrah is the lesser Hajj."
[Machine] Umrah is obligatory just like Hajj, and it is known as the lesser pilgrimage.
[Machine] The greater pilgrimage is the day of sacrifice, and the lesser pilgrimage is Umrah. It has been narrated in this regard from the Prophet ﷺ.
[Machine] The Prophet of Allah ﷺ wrote a letter to the people of Yemen containing information about religious obligations, practices, and charity. He sent the letter with Amr ibn Hazm and in it, he mentioned that performing Umrah is the lesser pilgrimage compared to Hajj.
[Machine] I saw the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , standing in the valley giving a sermon and he said, "Umrah has entered into Hajj until the Day of Resurrection."
