12. Ḥajj and ʿUmrah (17/34)
[Machine] From a compressed stomach, and upon you like the tossing of pebbles.
[Machine] I am the messenger of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to you, saying: Be mindful of your emotions, for you are on a legacy from the legacy of Ibrahim ﷺ . And Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz informed us, narrating from Abu al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub, narrating from Ahmad ibn Shayban, narrating from Sufyan, who mentioned it in a similar manner, except that he said it on behalf of and from. Ibn Marba' al-Ansari came to us at Arafah when we were in a place near the standing site, which Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) had distanced from the imam, and he said: Then he mentioned it.
12.192 [Machine] The time for stopping for the realization of Hajj
[Machine] "Wait for me until I am finished with my ablution and then he entered and performed ablution and then went out and walked between me and my father. So I said to him, 'If you want to implement the Sunnah today, shorten the sermon and hasten the prayer.' So he looked at Abdullah bin Umar to hear that from him. So Abdullah said, 'The wording of the hadith of Ibn Bukayr is authentic.'"
[Machine] So the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , excelled and brought upon them tranquility, and he commanded them with tranquility and said, "Let my Ummah hold onto its rituals, for I do not know if I will meet them after this year of theirs."
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Hajj is Arafat, Hajj is Arafat. Whoever reaches the night of Jam' (i.e. staying in Mina) before Fajr (dawn), he has completed three days of Mina. So whoever hastens (his departure) in two days, there is no sin upon him. And whoever stays behind, there is no sin upon him." [Surah Al-Baqarah 2:203] Sufyan ibn 'Uyaynah said, "I said to Sufyan ath-Thawri, 'Do you not have a hadith in Kufa that is more honorable and better than this?'"
[Machine] He (referring to someone) performed Hajj during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He caught up with the people while they were in a gathering, so he set off towards 'Arafat at night. He camped there for a while and then returned to the gathering. He came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have exhausted myself and exerted my mount. Do I have a Hajj?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever prays Fajr with us and stays with us until we pour our water in 'Arafat, and he has reached 'Arafat before that, either at night or during the day, then his Hajj is complete and his obligations are fulfilled."
[Machine] I came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "I have come from the mountain of Tayy, exhausted my mount, and dedicated myself. Do I have a Hajj?" He said, "Whoever stood with us at Arafat has completed his Hajj."
12.193 [Machine] Breaking the fast of the Day of Arafat at Arafat
[Machine] Some people disagreed about the state of fasting of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ on the day of Arafah. Some said he was fasting, while others said he was not fasting. So, they sent a container of milk to him while he was standing on his camel at Arafah, and he drank from it. The wording of the hadith is: "Qa'na bi qadahin min labanin" which means "He drank from a container of milk" in the narration of al-Qa'nabiyy and "Tamaraw" in the narration of Rawh. And he drank from it while he was delivering a sermon to the people at Arafah.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited fasting on the Day of Arafa. That is what Al-Harith ibn Ubayd and Al-Mahfuzh reported from Ikrima from Abu Hurairah.
[Machine] "He ﷺ informed us that the Prophet of Allah forbade fasting on the Day of Arafah while being present at Arafah."
12.194 [Machine] The Best Supplication: the Supplication of the Day of Arafah
[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The best supplication is the supplication on the Day of Arafah, and the best thing that I and the prophets before me have said is: There is no god but Allah alone, He has no partner."
[Machine] I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ supplicating at Arafat, raising his hands towards his chest, seeking provision for the needy.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "My most frequent supplication and the supplication of the prophets before me on the Day of Arafah is: 'There is no god but Allah, alone, without any partner. To Him belongs all sovereignty, and to Him belongs all praise. And He has power over all things. O Allah, place light in my heart, and in my hearing light, and in my sight light. O Allah, open my chest, and make my task easy for me, and protect me from the whispers of the chest, and the discord of the task, and the trials of the grave. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil that accompanies the night, and the evil that accompanies the day, and the evil that the winds blow, and the evil that is produced by the changes of time.' It was mentioned to me that Musa bin 'Ubaydah had devoted himself exclusively to supplicating with this prayer, and he is weak and he did not reach the level of his brother 'Ali." It was reported to us by Abu Shu'bah that he said: "I saw Ibn 'Umar gasping for breath on the Day of Arafah so that he could hear what he was saying." He said: "There was nothing more to what he said than that he said: 'There is no god but Allah, alone, without any partner. To Him belongs all sovereignty, and to Him belongs all praise. And He has power over all things.'

12.195 [Machine] Introduction to Arafat's alternative
[Machine] I saw Hasan al-Basri on the day of Arafah after Asr prayer, sitting and making dua and remembrance of Allah. So the people gathered around him, and in another narration by Imam Muslim, I saw Hasan leaving the enclosure on the day of Arafah after Asr prayer, and he sat down and introduced himself.
[Machine] Regarding the gathering of people on the day of Arafah in the mosques, they said, "It is an innovation. " And from Mansoor, from Ibrahim, he said, "It is an innovation." And from Qatadah, from Al-Hasan, he said, "The first one to do that was Ibn Abbas. "
12.196 [Machine] What was mentioned about the virtues of Arafah?
[Machine] "O Amir al-Mu'minin, there is a verse in your book that you recite. If it had been revealed upon us, the Jewish people, we would have taken that day as a celebration." He asked, "Which verse is it?" I said, "The verse is: 'This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion' [Surah Al-Ma'idah, verse 3]." Umar said, "We know the day and the place where it was revealed. It was revealed to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of Arafah, which was a Friday."
[Machine] Umar ibn Al-Khattab, I knew the place where it was revealed, and the day and hour when it was revealed, on the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ while we were in Arafat on the evening of Friday.
There is no day when God sets free more servants from Hell than the Day of 'Arafa. He draws near, then praises them to the angels, saying: What do these want? (Using translation from Muslim 1348)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed on the eve of Arafat to his Ummah for forgiveness and mercy. He supplicated abundantly, and Allah the Almighty revealed to him, "I have forgiven them all except for the wrongs they commit against each other. As for their sins between Me and them, I have forgiven them." The Prophet ﷺ then said, "O Lord, You are able to reward this oppressed one better than his oppression, and You are able to forgive this oppressor." However, he did not receive an answer that evening. When it was the morning of Muzdalifah, he repeated his prayer, and Allah answered him, saying, "I have forgiven them." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled, and when some of his companions asked him about it, he said, "I smiled at the enemy of Allah, Iblis, for when he learned that Allah had answered my prayer for my Ummah, he sank into despair and began calling for woe and destruction upon himself, and he threw dust on his head."
12.197 [Machine] What does someone do after leaving Arafat?
[Machine] Jabir narrates about the pilgrimage of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ , saying that the Prophet remained standing until the sun set and the yellowish tint disappeared. When the orb vanished, he mounted his camel, with Usama bin Zaid behind him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ handed over the reins of his she-camel to Usama, and he tightened them for the final climb. The reins were so taut that the she-camel's bridle reached the back of its saddle. Then, the Prophet ﷺ would move the reins slightly with his right hand, indicating calmness. Every time he reached a rope among the ropes, he would loosen it slightly so that she could ascend, until he reached Muzdalifa.
[Machine] Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood on Arafat among a group of people, and the people were striking one another. So he said, "O people, calm down, for righteousness is not achieved through wrongdoing."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ overflowed from Arafat with tranquility, and his companion was Usama. He said, "O people, hold on to tranquility, for righteousness is not in aggressiveness with horses and camels." He said, "I did not see her raising her hands until she came together."
"The Messneger of Allah departed from Arafat and I was riding behind him. He started trying to rein in his camel until its ears nearly touched the front of the saddle, and he was saying: 'O people, you must be tranquil and dignified, for righteousness does not come by making camels hurry.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3018)
Hisham bin ‘Urwah reported on the authority of his father Usamah bin Zaid was asked when I was sitting along with him, how did the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ travel during the Farewell Pilgrimage when he proceeded from ‘Arafah to Al Muzdalifah? He replied he was travelling at a quick pace and when he found an opening he urged on his Camel. Hisham said “Nass(running or urging on the Camel) is above ‘anaq(going at a quick pace).” (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1923)

I rode behind Messenger of Allah ﷺ from ʿArafat and when Messenger of Allah ﷺ reached the mountain pass on the left side which is before Al-Muzdalifa he made his camel kneel and then urinated, and then I poured water for his ablution. He performed light ablution and then I said to him: (Is it the time for) the prayer, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ!" He replied, "The (place of) prayer is ahead of you (i.e. at Al- Muzdalifa)." So Messenger of Allah ﷺ rode till he reached Al-Muzdalifa and then he offered the prayer (there) . Then in the morning (10th Dhul-Hijja) Al-Faql (bin ʿAbbas) rode behind Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Kuraib, (a sub-narrator) said that ʿAbdullah bin ʿAbbas narrated from Al-Fadl, "Messenger of Allah ﷺ kept on reciting Talbiya (during the journey) till he reached the Jamra." (Jamrat-Al-ʿAqaba) (Using translation from Bukhārī 1669)

[Machine] I was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and when he reached the area where the commanders enter, he entered it and called for water and performed ablution. I said, "Let's pray." He replied, "Prayer is in front of you." When he reached Muzdalifah, he stood and prayed Maghrib. The rest of the people had not yet been permitted to perform the prayer until he stood and prayed 'Isha'.

He said, 'He moved from Arafah until he reached Muzdalifah, then he descended and performed a light ablution. So I said, 'Shall we pray?' He said, 'The prayer is in front of you.' Then he mounted (his ride) until he reached a gathering, then he descended and performed the ablution for prayer. Then he prayed the Maghrib prayer of three units, and then he prayed the 'Isha prayer of two units, and there was no voluntary prayer between them.'

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed Maghrib and Isha together in Muzdalifah. Ibnu Abi Dhi'b said in the narration that he did not call for each of the prayers except with Iqamah, and he did not perform Tashbih between them or after any one of them.
It was narrated from Salim, from his father, that the Prophet ﷺ joined them (Maghrib and 'Isha') in Al-Muzdalifah, and he prayed each of them with an Iqamah, and he did not offer any voluntary prayer before or after either of them. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 660)

[Machine] He combined Maghrib and Isha prayers in a single congregation. It was said to him, "What is this prayer, O Abu Abdur Rahman?" He said, "I prayed Maghrib three times and Isha two times with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in this place with a single Iqamah." The wording is of the Hadith of Abdur Razzaq.

[Machine] Narrated Jabir bin Abdullah: During the Hajj of the Prophet ﷺ , he stayed at Muzdalifah and performed Maghrib and Isha prayers there with Adhan and Iqamah without offering any prayer in between.

[Machine] And he (Umar) said, "Verily, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Indeed, these two prayers (Maghrib and Fajr) have been delayed from their times in this place, meaning the Maghrib and Fajr. So people should not gather collectively until they become dark and pray Fajr at this time. Then he stood until it became light, and he said, "If the Amir al-Mu'minin (referring to Uthman ibn 'Affan) came now, he would have followed the Sunnah. I do not know if I should say he was faster or it was the efficiency of Uthman?" Then he did not interrupt the talbiyah until he threw pebbles at Jamrat al-Aqaba on the day of sacrifice.

The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ returned from ‘Arafah. When he came to the mountain path , he alighted, urinated and performed the ablution, but he did not perform it completely. I said to him Prayer? He said “The prayer will be offered ahead of you.” He then mounted. When he reached Al Muzdalifah he alighted performed the ablution, performed it well. Thereafter iqamah for the prayer was called and he offered the sunset prayer. Then everyone made his Camel kneel down at his place. Iqamah was then called for night prayer and he offered it but he did not pray between them. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1925)

Ibrahim bin ’Uqabah said “Kuraib told me that he asked Umamah bin Zaid saying tell me how you did in the evening when you rode behind the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ. He said “We came to the valley where the people make their Camels kneel down to take rest at night.” The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ made his she Camel kneel down and he then urinated. He then called for water for ablution and performed the ablution but he did not perform minutely (but performed lightly). I asked Apostle of Allaah ﷺ, prayer? He replied “Prayer ahead of you”. He then mounted (the Camel) till we came to Al Muzadalifah. There iqamah for the sunset prayer was called. The people then made their Camels kneel down at their places. The Camels were not unloaded as yet, iqamah for the night prayers was called and he prayed. The people then unloaded the Camels. The narrator Muhammad added in his version of the tradition How did you do when the morning came? He replied Al Fadl rode behind him and I walked on foot among the people of the Quraish who went ahead. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1921)

(Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1937)

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , stood at Arafah and said, "This is Arafah, and it is the standing place. All of Arafah is a standing place." Then, he descended from Arafah when the sun set, accompanied by Usamah. While he was walking at his usual pace and people were gesturing with their hands to the right and left, he did not pay attention to them. He said, "O people, remain calm until I reach the congregation to pray the two prayers together." In the morning, he came to the Qudah mount and stood on it. He said, "This is Qudah, and it is the standing place. The whole area is a standing place." He also said, "By Mina, this is the Mina Sacrificial Place, and the entire Mina is a sacrificial place." This is mentioned in the hadith of Al-Muqri' and the hadith of Ibn 'Abdan, which concludes with his statement, "And he prayed the two prayers there." He also said, "He would recite on his camel instead of saying, 'He was walking at his usual pace.'" The rest is to be understood in its meaning.

[Machine] "He (Prophet Muhammad ﷺ) said, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ hastened me in gathering (something) during the night.'"
[Machine] To push, so among them is one who advances before me for the Fajr prayer, and among them is one who advances after that, so when they arrive, they throw the pebbles at the Jamarat, and Ibn 'Umar used to say, "I despise those who delay after the Prophet ﷺ has done so" 9512. And Abu 'Abdullah Al-Hafiz informed me, 'Ali ibn Hamshad Al-'Adl narrated to us, Ahmad ibn Ibrahim narrated to us, and 'Ali ibn Ahmad ibn 'Abdan informed us that Ibn Milhan said, Ibn Bukayr narrated to us, Al-Laith narrated to me, Yunus narrated to me, and Ibn Shihab said, Salim said, "Abdullah ibn 'Umar used to advance, and he mentioned the hadith similarly."
Sauda (the wife of the Holy Prophet) who was bulky sought the permission of Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the night of Muzdalifa to move from (that place) ahead of him and before the multitude (set forth). He (Allah's Apostle) gave her the permission. So she set forth before his (Holy Prophet's) departure. But we stayed there until it was dawn and we moved on, when he departed. And if I were to seek the permission of Messenger of Allah. ﷺ as Sauda had sought permission, I could have also gone with his permission and it would have been better for me than that for which I was happy.
