12. Ḥajj and ʿUmrah (5/34)
We set out in the company of Messenger of Allah ﷺ five days before the end of Dhul Qa'da intending to perform Hajj only. When we approached Mecca Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered those who did not have the Hadi (i.e. an animal for sacrifice) with them, to perform the Tawaf around the Kaʿba, and between Safa and Marwa and then finish their Ihram. Beef was brought to us on the day of (i.e. the days of slaughtering) and I asked, "What is this?" Somebody said, Messenger of Allah ﷺ has slaughtered (a cow) on behalf of his wives." (Using translation from Bukhārī 2952)

[Machine] We went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ without intending to perform Hajj or Umrah. When we arrived, he instructed us to enter into the state of Ihram. On the night of departure, Safiyyah bint Huyayy experienced her menstrual cycle. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Perform all rituals of Umrah except for the Tawaf around the Kaaba, as I can see you preventing your brother from completing his Hajj. Were you present during the Day of Sacrifice?" She replied, "Yes." He then told her, "So go ahead and leave." She said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ , I did not complete the Ihram, as I did not perform the Rami (stoning of the pillars) or the Tawaf." He said, "Perform the Umrah of atonement." Her brother accompanied her. Along the way, they met someone and the Prophet ﷺ asked him about a specific meeting point. (The translation ends here as per the instruction)

[Machine] Ibn Tawus, Ibrahim ibn Maisara, and Hisham ibn Hujair heard Tawus saying, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ left the city without declaring the intention of performing Hajj or Umrah, and he waited for the decree to be revealed. The decree descended upon him while he was between Safa and Marwah, so he commanded his companions who were eligible to perform Hajj but did not have a sacrificial animal to make it an Umrah. He said, 'If I had known what I know now, I would not have brought the sacrificial animal. However, I had shaved my head and had made the sacrifice, so there is no other option for me except to complete it.' Surāqah ibn Mālik then came to him and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, decree for us the decree of a people who were born today. Is this Umrah of ours valid for this year only or forever?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Rather, it is valid forever. You have performed Umrah in the Hajj until the Day of Resurrection.' Ali then entered from Yemen, and the Prophet ﷺ asked him, 'By what did you make the declaration?' One of them said, 'Labbaik, ihlal an-Nabi ﷺ ,' and the other said, 'Labbaik, hajjat an-Nabi ﷺ .'

[Machine] He said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ resided in Al-Madinah for nine Hajj seasons without performing Hajj. Then he announced to the people that they should perform Hajj. Many people gathered in Al-Madinah. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ left for Makkah with a group of five remaining from Dhul-Qadah or four. When he reached Dhul-Hulayfah, he performed Salat, then mounted his riding animal. When it took hold of him in the open, he recited Talbiyah, and we also recited Talbiyah, intending only for Hajj."
Ja’far bin Muhammad reported on the authority of his father “We entered upon Jabir bin ‘Abd Allaah. When we reached him, he asked about the people (who had come to visit him). When my turn came I said “I am Muhammad bin Ali bin Hussain. He patted my head with his hand and undid my upper then lower buttons. He then placed his hand between my nipples and in those days I was a young boy.” He then said “welcome to you my nephew, ask what you like. I questioned him he was blind. The time of prayer came and he stood wrapped in a mantle. Whenever he placed it on his shoulders its ends fell due to its shortness. He led us in prayer while his mantle was placed on a rack by his side. I said “tell me about the Hajj of the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ.”He signed with his hand and folded his fingers indicating nine. He then said Apostle of Allaah ﷺ remained nine years (at Madeenah ) during which he did not perform Hajj, then made a public announcement in the tenth year to the effect that the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ was about to (go to) perform Hajj. A large number of people came to Madeenah everyone desiring to follow him and act like him. The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ went out and we too went out with him till we reached Dhu Al Hulaifah. Asma’ daughter of ‘Umais gave birth to Muhammad bin Abi Bakr. She sent message to Apostle of Allaah ﷺ asking him What should I do?He replied “take a bath, bandage your private parts with a cloth and put on ihram.” The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ then prayed (in the masjid) and mounted Al Qaswa’ and his she Camel stood erect with him on its back. Jabir said “I saw (a large number of) people on mounts and on foot in front of him and a similar number on his right side and a similar number on his left side and a similar number behind him. The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ was among us, the Qur’an was being revealed to him and he knew its interpretation. Whatever he did, we did it. The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ then raised his voice declaring Allaah’s unity and saying “Labbaik ( I am at thy service), O Allaah, labbaik, labbaik, Thou hast no partner praise and grace are Thine and the Dominion. Thou hast no partner. The people too raised their voices in talbiyah which they used to utter. But the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ did not forbid them anything. The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ continued his talbiyah. Jabir said “We did not express our intention of performing anything but Hajj, being unaware of ‘Umrah (at that season), but when we came with him to the House (the Ka’bah), he touched the corner (and made seven circuits) walking quickly with pride in three of them and walking ordinarily in four. Then going forward to the station of Abraham he recited “And take the station of Abraham as a place of prayer.” (While praying two rak’ahs) he kept the station between him and the House. The narrator said My father said that Ibn Nufail and ‘Uthman said I do not know that he (Jabir) narrated it from anyone except the Prophet ﷺ. The narrator Sulaiman said I do not know but he (Jabir) said “The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ used to recite in the two rak’ahs “Say, He is Allaah, one” and “Say O infidels”. He then returned to the House (the ka’bah) and touched the corner after which he went out by the gate to Al Safa’. When he reached near Al Safa’ he recited “Al Safa’ and Al Marwah are among the indications of Allaah” and he added “We begin with what Allaah began with”. He then began with Al Safa’ and mounting it till he could see the House (the Ka’bah) he declared the greatness of Allaah and proclaimed his Unity. He then said “there is no god but Allaah alone, Who alone has fulfilled His promise, helped His servant and routed the confederates. He then made supplication in the course of that saying such words three times. He then descended and walked towards Al Marwah and when his feet came down into the bottom of the valley, he ran, and when he began to ascend he walked till he reached Al Marwah. He did at al Marwah as he had done at Al Safa’ and when he came to Al Marwah for the last time, he said “If I had known before what I have come to know afterwards regarding this matter of mine, I would not have brought sacrificial animals but made it an ‘Umrah, so if any of you has no sacrificial animals, he may take off ihram and treat it as an ‘Umrah. All the people then took off ihram and clipped their hair except the Prophet ﷺ and those who had brought sacrificial animals. Suraqah (bin Malik) bin Ju’sham then got up and asked Apostle of Allaah ﷺdoes this apply to the present year or does it apply for ever? The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ interwined his fingers and said “The ‘Umarh has been incorporated in Hajj. Adding ‘No’, but forever and ever. ‘Ali came from Yemen with the sacrificial animals of the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ and found Fathima among one of those who had taken off their ihram. She said put on colored clothes and stained her eyes with collyrium. ‘Ali disliked (this action of her) and asked Who commanded you for this? She said “My father”. Jabir said ‘Ali said at Iraq I went to Apostle of Allaah ﷺ to complain against Fathima for what she had done and to ask the opinion of Apostle of Allaah ﷺ about which she mentioned to me. I informed him that I disliked her action and that thereupon she said to me “My father commanded me to do this.” He said “She spoke the truth, she spoke the truth.” What did you say when you put on ihram for Hajj? I said O Allaah, I put on ihram for the same purpose for which Apostle of Allaah ﷺ has put it on. He said I have sacrificial animals with me, so do not take off ihram. He (Jabir) said “The total of those sacrificial animals brought by ‘Ali from Yemen and of those brought by the Prophet ﷺ from Madeenah was one hundred.” Then all the people except the Prophet ﷺ and those who had with them the sacrificial animals took off ihram and clipped their hair. When the 8th of Dhu Al Hijjah (Yaum Al Tarwiyah) came, they went towards Mina having pit on ihram for Hajj and the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ rode and prayed at Mina the noon, afternoon, sunset, night and dawn prayers. After that he waited a little till the sun rose and gave orders for a tent of hair to be set up at Namrah. The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ then sent out and the Quraish did not doubt that he would halt at Al Mash ‘ar Al Haram at Al Muzdalifah, as the Quraish used to do in the pre Islamic period but he passed on till he came to ‘Arafah and found that the tent had been setup at Namrah. There he dismounted and when the sun had passed the meridian he ordered Al Qaswa’ to be brought and when it was saddled for him, he went down to the bottom of the valley and addressed the people saying “Your lives and your property must be respected by one another like the sacredness of this day of yours in the month of yours in this town of yours. Lo! Everything pertaining to the pre Islamic period has been put under my feet and claims for blood vengeance belonging to the pre Islamic period have been abolished. The first of those murdered among us whose blood vengeance I permit is the blood vengeance of ours (according to the version of the narrator ‘Uthman, the blood vengeance of the son of Rabi’ah and according to the version of the narrator Sulaiman the blood vengeance of the son of Rabi’ah bin Al Harith bin ‘Abd Al Muttalib). Some (scholars) said “he was suckled among Banu Sa’d(i.e., he was brought up among Bani Sa’d) and then killed by Hudhail. The usury of the pre Islamic period is abolished and the first of usury I abolish is our usury, the usury of ‘Abbas bin ‘Abd Al Muttalib for it is all abolished. Fear Allaah regarding women for you have got them under Allah’s security and have the right to intercourse with them by Allaah’s word. It is a duty from you on them not to allow anyone whom you dislike to lie on your beds but if they do beat them, but not severely. You are responsible for providing them with food and clothing in a fitting manner. I have left among you something by which if you hold to it you will never again go astray, that is Allaah’s Book. You will be asked about me, so what will you say? They replied “We testify that you have conveyed and fulfilled the message and given counsel. Then raising his forefinger towards the sky and pointing it at the people, he said “O Allaah! Be witness, O Allaah! Be witness, O Allaah! Be witness! Bilal then uttered the call to prayer and the iqamah and he prayed the noon prayer, he then uttered the iqamah and he prayed the afternoon prayer, engaging in no prayer between the two. He then mounted (his she Camel) al Qaswa’ and came to the place of standing , making his she Camel Al Qaswa‘ turn its back to the rocks and having the path taken by those who went on foot in front of him and he faced the qiblah. He remained standing till sunset when the yellow light had somewhat gone and the disc of the sun had disappeared. He took Usamah up behind him and picked the reins of Al Qaswa’ severely so much so that its head was touching the front part of the saddle. Pointing with is right hand he was saying “Calmness, O People! Calmness, O people. Whenever he came over a mound (of sand) he let loose its reins a little so that it could ascend. He then came to Al Muzdalifah where he combined the sunset and night prayers, with one adhan and two iqamahs. The narrator ‘Uthamn said He did not offer supererogatory prayers between them. The narrators are then agreed upon the version He then lay down till dawn and prayed the dawn prayer when the morning light was clear. The narrator Sulaiman said with one adhan and one iqamah. The narrators are then agreed upon the version He then mounted Al Qaswa’ and came to Al Mash’ar Al Haram and ascended it. The narrators ‘Uthaman and Sulaiman said He faced the qiblah praised Allaah, declared His greatness, His uniqueness. ‘Uthamn added in his version and His Unity and kept standing till the day was very clear. The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ then went quickly before the sun rose , taking Al Fadl bin ‘Abbas behind him. He was a man having beautiful hair, white and handsome color. When the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ went quickly, the women in the howdas also began to pass him quickly. Al Fadl began to look at them. The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ placed his hand on the face of Al Fadl , but Al fadl turned his face towards the other side. The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ also turned away his hand to the other side. Al Fadl also turned his face to the other side looking at them till he came to (the Valley of) Muhassir. He urged the Camel a little and following a middle road which comes out at the greatest jamrah, he came to the jamrah which is beside the tree and he threw seven small pebbles at this (jamrah) saying “Allah is most great” each time he threw a pebble like bean seeds. He threw them from the bottom of the valley. The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ then went to the place of the sacrifice and sacrificed sixty three Camels with his own hand. He then commanded ‘Ali who sacrificed the remainder and he shared him and his sacrificial animals. After that he ordered that a piece of flesh from each Camel should be put in a pot and when it was cooked the two of them ate some of it and drank some of its broth. The narrator Sulaiman said the he mounted afterwards the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ went quickly to the House (the Ka’bah) and prayed the noon prayer at Makkah. He came to Banu ‘Abd Al Muttalib who were supplying water at Zamzam and said draw water Banu ‘Abd Al Muttalib were it not that people would take from you the right to draw water, I would draw it along with you. So they handed him a bucket and he drank from it. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1905)

12.41 [Machine] Who chose the Qur'an and claimed that the Prophet ﷺ was a reciter?
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "I called both of them, 'Labbaik (here I am)' for 'Umrah and Hajj, 'Labbaik (here I am)' for 'Umrah and Hajj."
[Machine] I heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, "Perform Umrah and Hajj together." So I informed Ibn 'Umar about it and he said, "He spoke the truth; I have heard the Prophet ﷺ saying the same." Then I met Anas and informed him about it, and he said, "They (the companions) know that better, but they do not like to act (upon that)." I asked Anas, "Had you done the same?" He replied, "Yes. And Allah's Messenger ﷺ said, 'Labbayka (i.e. I respond to Your call), O Allah, on behalf of 'Umrah and Hajj.'" (Sahih Muslim)
[Machine] Ibn Umar asked Bilal: "How did the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , perform the pilgrimage?" Bilal replied, "He performed the pilgrimage and then returned. Then he came to me in the following year and asked me the same question. I said, 'Did you not come to me in the previous year?' He said, 'Yes, but Anas ibn Malik claims that he performed both Hajj and Umrah together.' Ibn Umar said, 'Anas ibn Malik used to visit women while they were unveiled, while I used to be under the camel of the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , and I heard his saliva falling on me as he was reciting Talbiyah during Hajj.'"
Anas said The Prophet ﷺ passed the night at Dhu al Hulaifah till the morning came. He then rode (on his she Camel) which stood up with him on her back. When he reached al Baida, he praied Allaah, glorified Him and expressed His greatness. He then raised his voice in talbiyah for Hajj and ‘Umrah. The people too raised their voices in talbiyah for both of them. When we came (to Makkah), he ordered the people to take off their ihram and they did so. When the eight of Dhu Al Hijjah came, they again raised their voices in talbiyah for Hajj (i.e., wore ihram for Hajj). The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ sacrificed seven Camels standing with his own hand. Abu Dawud said The version narrated by Anas alone has the words. He began with the praise, glorification and exaltation of Allaah, then he raised his voice in talbiyah for Hajj. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1796)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed the Dhuhr prayer in Medina four rak'ahs, and the Asr prayer in Dhul-Hulayfah two rak'ahs. Anas said, "I heard them all shouting (the Talbiyah) during both Hajj and Umrah." This is the wording of Sulayman's hadith, and in the narration of Abu al-Rabee', they shout loudly during Hajj and Umrah.
[Machine] He informed him that the Prophet ﷺ performed four Umrahs throughout his lifetime, all of them in the month of Dhu al-Qa'dah except for the Umrah that he performed with his Hajj, the Umrah of Hudaybiyah, or during the time of Hudaybiyah in Dhu al-Qa'dah, and an Umrah from the following year in Dhu al-Qa'dah, and an Umrah from Ji'ranah, where he distributed the spoils of Hunayn, in Dhu al-Qa'dah, and an Umrah with his Hajj.
[Machine] How many times did Ibn Umar perform Hajj with the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ? He said twice. Aisha said, "Ibn Umar knew that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ performed Hajj three times, excluding the one he combined with the Farewell Hajj."
Urwa bin Az-Zubair and I entered the Mosque (of the Prophet) and saw ʿAbdullah bin ʿUmar sitting near the dwelling place of Aisha and some people were offering the Duha prayer. We asked him about their prayer and he replied that it was a heresy. He (Urwa) then asked him how many times the Prophet ﷺ had performed ʿUmra. He replied, 'Four times; one of them was in the month of Rajab." We disliked to contradict him. Then we heard ʿAisha, the Mother of faithful believers cleaning her teeth with Siwak in the dwelling place. 'Urwa said, "O Mother! O Mother of the believers! Don't you hear what Abu ʿAbdur Rahman is saying?" She said, "What does he say?" 'Urwa said, "He says that Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed four ʿUmra and one of them was in the month of Rajab." ʿAisha said, "May Allah be merciful to Abu ʿAbdur Rahman! The Prophet ﷺ did not perform any ʿUmra except that he was with him, and he never performed any ʿUmra in Rajab." (Using translation from Bukhārī 1775)

[Machine] "I and ibn Umar were leaning against the chamber of Aisha's room, and I could hear the sound of the siwak (tooth-cleaning stick) being rubbed. So, I asked if the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed Umrah (lesser pilgrimage) in the month of Rajab. He replied, 'Yes.' I then said, 'O my mother, don't you hear what Abu 'Abdur-Rahman is saying? He is saying that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed Umrah in the month of Rajab.' She said, 'May Allah have mercy on Abu 'Abdur-Rahman! The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not perform Umrah except while he had a Hadi with him (i.e., an animal for sacrifice)'".

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed two umrahs: one umrah in Dhul-Qa'dah, and the other in Shawwal. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1991)
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ performed only three Umrahs, one in the month of Shawwal and two in the month of Dhu al-Qi'dah. Abu Ahmad al-Mihrajani informed us that Muhammad ibn Ja'far al-Muzakki narrated to us, who narrated from Muhammad ibn Ibrahim, who narrated from Ibn Bukayr, who narrated from Malik, who mentioned it. It has also been narrated from Abu Ishaq from Al-Bara' bin Azib, but it is not preserved.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed Umrah three times in the month of Dhu al-Qa'dah. Aisha said, "He knew that he performed Umrah four times with the Umrah in which he performed Hajj." It is narrated in the hadith of Jabir bin Abdullah, but it is not considered authentic.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ performed three Hajj pilgrimages, two before his migration and one in which he combined Umrah with it. How is this possible and accurate, when it has been narrated from various narrations from Jabir about the Prophet's Ihram which contradicts this? Abu Isa At-Tirmidhi said, "I asked Muhammad ibn Isma'il al-Bukhari about this hadith and he said, 'This is a false hadith and it was only narrated by Ath-Thawri as a mursal narration.'" Al-Bukhari said, "When Zaid ibn Al-Hubab narrates through memorization, he sometimes makes mistakes." The scholar said, "It has been narrated in a hadith of ibn Abbas, but it is not confirmed."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed four Umrah trips, the Umrah of Hudaybiyah, the Umrah of Qadhaa from Qabil, his Umrah from Ji'raanah, and his fourth Umrah which he performed during his Hajj. Abu'l-Hasan, meaning Ali ibn Abdul Aziz, said, "No one narrates this hadith from Ibn Abbas except for Dawood ibn Abdul Rahman." The Sheikh has said, "Indeed, there is no one who narrates about this hadith except for Dawood ibn Abdul Rahman."
[Machine] The wife of the Prophet ﷺ said to the Prophet ﷺ, "What is the matter with people, they have performed Hajj and you have not performed Hajj?" He replied, "I have taken off my Ihram and returned to wearing my regular clothes, so I am not allowed to perform Hajj until I sacrifice an animal with the wording of the Prophet Ibrahim's Hadith." In another narration by Al-Shafi'i from Hafsah, she said, "O Messenger of Allah, what is the matter with people, they have performed Umrah and you have not performed Umrah?"
[Machine] I have performed the ritual of Ihram and covered my head, so I am not allowed to do any acts that are not allowed during Hajj.
[Machine] Imam Al-Shafi'i, may Allah have mercy on him, said regarding the statement of Hafsa to the Prophet ﷺ , "You have not made it permissible for yourself from your umrah," meaning from the state of ihram with which you began. They (the Companions) had the same intention (to perform umrah) and Allah knows best. So he (the Prophet) said, "I have cut my hair and put on regular clothing (indicating the end of the state of ihram) and I have adopted the practices of hajj. I will not make it permissible (to engage in marital relations) until I slaughter the sacrificial animal," meaning the Prophet will not engage in marital relations until he has completed his hajj. This is because it was revealed to him (the Prophet) that anyone who is performing hajj with a sacrificial animal, their state of ihram will end.
[Machine] He informed him that Hafsah, the wife of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ , informed him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to assume the state of ihram for the farewell pilgrimage. Hafsah asked him, "What prevents you, O Messenger of Allah, from assuming the state of ihram?" He replied, "I have already performed the ritual purification (ghusl) and put on my ihram garment, and I will not assume the state of ihram until I sacrifice my hajj animal, and likewise."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, "Jibreel came to me while I was in al-'Aqiq and said, 'Pray two units of prayer in this blessed valley and say, 'Umrah in Hajj.' For verily, 'Umrah is included in Hajj until the Day of Resurrection."
In the valley of Al-ʿAqiq I heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "To night a messenger came to me from my Lord and asked me to pray in this blessed valley and to assume Ihram for Hajj and ʿUmra together. " (Using translation from Bukhārī 1534)
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was in the valley of Al-Aqiq saying: "A visitor came to me from my Lord tonight and said: Perform Salah in this blessed valley and say 'Umrah in Hajj'."
[Machine] "Does it benefit you? Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed both Hajj and Umrah, and he did not prohibit it, nor did he reveal any Quranic verse forbidding it. And he used to send his greetings to me, but when I performed Itikaf, he stopped coming to me. And when I left Itikaf, he returned to me, meaning the angels."
[Machine] I was with Ali when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered him to go to Yemen. Ali mentioned the narration of his arrival and said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked me, 'What did you do?' I said, 'I performed the rites of ihram following the Prophet's ihram.' He ﷺ said, 'I have already offered the sacrificial animal and performed sa'y (the walking between Safa and Marwa) in this narration.' I (Ali) performed sa'y, but this is not mentioned in Jabir ibn Abdullah's narration when he described Ali's arrival and his ihram. The narration of Jabir has the most authentic chain of narrators and the best context, and along with Jabir's narration is the narration of Anas ibn Malik."
[Machine] Ali came to the Prophet ﷺ from Yemen, and the Prophet ﷺ asked him, "How did you perform the pilgrimage?" Ali replied, "I performed it in the manner that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed it." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "If I did not have the sacrificial animal with me, I would have performed it."
[Machine] I was guided by the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ , and this hadith indicates the permissibility of reciting the Quran during Hajj and that there is no wrongdoing in doing so, contrary to what Zaid bin Suhan and Salman bin Rabee'ah assumed. It does not mean that it is superior to any other act. Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) had ordered that a distinction be made between Hajj and Umrah.
12.42 [Machine] Who chose to perform Umrah instead of Hajj and claimed that the Prophet ﷺ also did so, or felt regret for it, and regret is only for what is better.
[Machine] Addahak does that only to those who are ignorant of the matter of Allah and say, "Saad, how bad is what you said, O son of my brother." Addahak said, "Indeed, Umar ibn al-Khattab used to forbid it." Saad said, "But the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did it, and we did it with him, as mentioned in this narration, as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did it in the authentic narrations from Ghanim ibn Qays from Saad." In this hadith, we did it, and it does not mention the Prophet's ﷺ action, and Allah knows best.
[Machine] We have done it, and on that day, he is an unbeliever in the throne.
[Machine] I did it with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and at that time there was an unbeliever in the throne, meaning Mecca, and it refers to Muawiyah.
‘Abd Allah bin Umar said At the Farewell Pilgrimage the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ put on ihram first for ‘Umrah and afterwards for Hajj and drove the sacrificial animals along with him from Dhu Al Hulaifah. The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ first raised his voice in talbiyah for ‘Umrah and afterwards he did so for Hajj; and the people along with the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ did it first for ‘Umrah and afterwards for Hajj. Some of the people had brought sacrificial animals and others had not, so when the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ came to Makkah , he said to the people. Those of you who have brought sacrificial animals must not treat as lawful anything which has become unlawful for you till you complete your Hajj; but those of you who have not brought sacrificial animals should go round the House(Ka’bah) and run between Al Safa’ and Al Marwah, clip their hair, put off ihram, and afterwards raise their voice in talbiyah for Hajj and bring sacrificial animals. Those who cannot get sacrificial animals should fast three days during Hajj and seven days when they return to their families. The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ then performed circumambulation when he came to Makkah first touching the corner then running during three circuits out of seven and walking during four and when he had finished his circumambulation of the House (Ka’bah) he prayed two rak’ahs at Maqam Ibrahim, then giving the salutation and departing he went to Al Safa’ and ran seven times between Al Safa’ and Al Marwah. After that he did not treat anything as lawful which had become unlawful for him till he had completed his Hajj, sacrificed his animals on the day of sacrifice, went quickly and performed the circumambulation of the House(the Ka’bah), after which all that had been unlawful became lawful for him. Those people who had brought sacrificial animals did as the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ did. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1805)

[Machine] "That he said: 'Let him walk around the Kaaba and between Safa and Marwa, and let him shorten his hair and remove the ihram.'"
[Machine] The Prophet's wife informed him about the Messenger of Allah during his enjoyment of performing Umrah and the enjoyment of the people with him, similar to what Salim bin Abdullah informed me about Abdullah, from the Messenger of Allah, the wording of the hadith of Bishr.
[Machine] Ibn Abbas heard someone saying that the family of the Prophet ﷺ performed Umrah, while his companions performed Hajj. The Prophet ﷺ and the one who carried the sacrificial animal did not perform Umrah, but the rest of his companions did. Talhah ibn Ubaydullah was among those who carried the sacrificial animal, but he did not perform Umrah.
[Machine] I heard Ibn Abbas saying: The family of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his companions performed the Hajj. Whoever did not sacrifice an animal for Hajj, he was free to do so. Talhah and so-and-so did not sacrifice an animal, so they were free to do so.
[Machine] I heard Ibn Abbas say: The companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed Hajj, and whoever did not have a sacrificial animal with him was allowed to proceed, and whoever had a sacrificial animal with him was not allowed to proceed. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Talha were among those who had a sacrificial animal with them. The statement of one who said: "He is eligible for Hajj" is perhaps closer to being in accordance with the narration of Abu Al-Ala'iyah Al-Bara' and Abu Hassaan Al-A'raj from Ibn Abbas regarding the sighting of the Prophet ﷺ in Hajj. And Allah knows best.
[Machine] Narrated by the Prophet ﷺ that he said, "This is an 'Umrah in which we enjoyed. So whoever does not have a sacrificial animal with him, then he should release himself from the state of Ihram completely, for indeed the 'Umrah has been merged into the Hajj until the Day of Resurrection."
I, along with some people, heard Jabir b. 'Abdullah saying: We the Companions of Muhammad ﷺ put on Ihram for Hajj only. Ata' further said that Jabir stated: Allah's Apostle ﷺ came on the 4th of Dhu'l-Hijja and he commanded us to put off Ihram. 'Ata'said that he (Allah's Apostle) commanded them to put off Ihram and to go to their wives (for intercourse). 'Ata' said: It was not obligatory for them, but (intercourse) with them had become permissible. We said: When only five days had been left to reach 'Arafa, he (the Holy Prophet) commanded us to have intercourse with our wives. And we reached 'Arafa in a state as if we had just had intercourse (with them). He ('Ata') said: Jabir pointed with his hand and I (perceive) as if I am seeing his hand as it moved. In the (meantime) the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood amongst us and said: You are well aware that I am the most God-fearing, most truthful and most pious amongst you. And if there were not sacrificial animals with me, I would also have put off Ihram as you have put off. And if I were to know this matter of mine what I have come to know later on, I would not have brought sacrificial animals with me. So they (the Companions) put off Ihram and we also put it off and listened to (the Holy Prophet) and obeyed (his command). Jabir said: 'Ali came with the revenue of the taxes (from Yemen). He (the Holy Prophet) said: For what (purpose) have you entered into the state of Ihram (whether you entered into the state purely for Hajj and, Umra jointly or Hajj and Umra separately)? He said: For the purpose for which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had entered. (The Prophet had entered as a Qiran, i.e. Ihram covering both Umra and Hajj simultaneously.) Thereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Offer a sacrifice of animal, and retain Ihram. And 'Ali brought a sacrificial animal for him (for the Holy Prophet). Suraqa b. Malik b. Ju'shum said: Messenger of Allah, is it (this concession putting off Ihram of Hajj or Umra) meant for this year or is it forever? He said: It is forever. (Using translation from Muslim 1216a)

Messenger of Allah, who has annoyed you? May Allah cast him in fire I He said: Don't you know that I commanded the people to do an act, but they are hesitant. (Hakam said: I think that he said: They seem to be hesitant.) And if I were to know my affair before what I had to do subsequently, I would not have brought with me the sacrificial animals, and would have bought them (at Mecca) and would have put off lhram as others have done. A man from the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ came to Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him). He bore witness before him that when he (the Prophet) was suffering from a disease of which he died he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibiting performing of umrah before hajj. [Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me to my people's land. When it was time for Hajj, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed Hajj, and I also performed Hajj. I went to him while he was descending from Al-Abtah and he asked me, "With what did you intend to perform Ihram, O Abdullah bin Qais?" I replied, "I intended to say Labbayk with a Hajj like the Hajj of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ." He said, "You have done well." Then he asked me, "Did you bring a Hadi (sacrificial animal)?" I replied, "No." He said, "Then go and perform Tawaf around the Kaaba and go between Safa and Marwa, then release your Ihram." So, I went and did as he instructed. I approached a woman from my people, and she washed my head with sidr and released my hair. Then I entered the state of Ihram on the day of Tarwiyah (8th of Dhul-Hijjah) and continued to give fatwas to the people in accordance with what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had instructed me, until he passed away and Abu Bakr became the Caliph. During the time of Umar's caliphate, as I was standing near the Black Stone and the Maqam, giving fatwas to the people in accordance with what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had instructed me, a man came to me and interrupted me. He said, "Do not rush with your fatwas, for the Commander of the Believers has introduced changes in the rituals." So, I addressed the people and said, "Whoever we used to give fatwas based on a certain ruling, let him wait for it until the Commander of the Believers comes, and then complete the rites according to his instructions." When Umar arrived, I went to him and said, "O Commander of the Believers, have changes been made in the rituals?" He replied, "Yes, we should follow the Sunnah of our Prophet ﷺ . He did not release the Ihram until after sacrificing the Hadi, and we should also follow the Book of our Lord, as it commands us to complete the rites."

And Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz informed us that Abu al-Fadl ibn Ibrahim informed us that Ahmad ibn Salamah informed us that Muhammad ibn Bashshar and Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna said: Muhammad ibn Jafar mentioned it similarly, except that he said: "Then they go for their pilgrimage and their heads drip", and he did not mention his saying: "And his companions."
