12. Ḥajj and ʿUmrah (14/34)
[Machine] I arrived in Mecca while I was menstruating, so I did not perform the Tawaf (circumambulation) around the Kaaba and between Safa and Marwa. I complained about this to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said, "Do as the pilgrims do, except do not perform the Tawaf around the Kaaba until you are purified."
[Machine] We went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and all we saw was the Hajj. When we were at Sarif or Qariban from it, I had my menstrual cycle. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon me while I was crying. He asked, "What is the matter with you? Have you started your menstrual cycle?" I replied, "Yes." He said, "This is a matter Allah has ordained for the daughters of Adam. So do what the pilgrims do except for circumambulation around the Ka'bah until you clean yourself." When we were at Mina, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sacrificed a cow for his wives, according to the hadith narrated by Abu 'Amr. In the narration of Abu 'Abdullah, it is said that 'A'isha said: She did not mention the part where the Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked if she had started her menstrual cycle. When we were at Mina, she said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sacrificed a cow for his wives.
[Machine] Sufyan, in his narration, raised it to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Verily, circumambulating the Ka'bah is like prayer, except that you speak during it. So whoever speaks should speak only good." This is also narrated by Jarir. And Musa bin 'Ayyan, in his narration from the Prophet ﷺ , said, "Circumambulating the Ka'bah is a prayer, but Allah has allowed you to speak during it. So whoever speaks, let him speak only good." And it is mentioned in the narration of Al-Fudayl.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Circumambulation around the Kaaba is a form of prayer, but Allah has allowed speech during it. So whoever speaks during it should only speak good. It is reported by ‘Ata’ ibn Abi Rabah, Wahb ibn Jarir, ‘Abdullah ibn Mubarak, and Ibrahim ibn Maysarah in the authentic narrations."
[Machine] The Tawaf is a part of the prayer, so decrease talking during it.

[Machine] About someone who encountered the Prophet ﷺ, that the Prophet ﷺ said, "Performing Tawaf around the Kaaba is a form of prayer." We were informed by Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz, who was informed by Abu Ali al-Hafiz, who was informed by Abu Arooba, who narrated it from Salamah bin Shabeib, who narrated it from Abdul Razzaq, who narrated it from Ibn Juraij, who narrated it from Al-Hasan bin Muslim. Uthman bin Umar and Hajjaj bin Muhammad also mentioned the same narration from Ibn Juraij.

[Machine] He informed him that Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq had sent him on the Hajj pilgrimage which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded him to perform before the Farewell Pilgrimage on the Day of Sacrifice in a crowd. He called the people to prayer and announced that no one should perform Hajj after this year while associating partners with Allah, and no one should circumambulate the Kaaba naked. Additionally, according to the narration of Al-Muqri', no one should circumambulate the Kaaba naked.
"Women used to circumambulate the Kabah naked, saying: 'Today some, or all of it will appear And whatever appers I don't make is permissible.' Then the following was revealed: 'O Children of Adam! Take your adornment to every Masjid.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2956)
[Machine] During the pre-Islamic era, women used to circumambulate the house while they were naked, with a cloth covering their private parts. They would say, "Today, part or all of the sea appears, and what is visible is forbidden to us." Then, this verse was revealed: "Say, 'Who has forbidden the adornment of Allah?'" [Surah Al-A'raf, 32]

[Machine] "To make tawaf around the Kaaba until I reached the door of the mosque, I poured blood and then returned until that stopped, and then I continued until I reached the door of the mosque, poured blood, and then returned until that stopped. Then I continued until I reached the door of the mosque, poured blood. Abdullah bin Umar said, 'Indeed, that is a step from the devil. Wash yourself, then seek forgiveness with a garment, and then continue with the circumambulation.'"

[Machine] He informed him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by while he was performing tawaf around the Kaaba with a man leading another man with a rope in his nose. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ cut it with his hand and then ordered him to lead him by hand. He said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by a man while he was performing tawaf, who had tied with him another person with a walk or a thread or something else. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ cut it and said, "Lead him by your hand." Ibn Jurayj said, "I was told about this by Sulayman Al-Ahwal, who was informed by Tawus that Ibn Abbas said this about the Prophet ﷺ ."
12.161 [Machine] The Position of Tawaf
(the wife of the Prophet) that Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to her, "Do you know that when your people (Quraish) rebuilt the Kaʿba, they decreased it from its original foundation laid by Abraham?" I said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Why don't you rebuild it on its original foundation laid by Abraham?" He replied, "Were it not for the fact that your people are close to the Pre-Islamic Period of ignorance (i.e. they have recently become Muslims) I would have done so." The sub-narrator, ʿAbdullah (bin ʿUmar ) stated: ʿAisha 'must have heard this from Messenger of Allah ﷺ for in my opinion Messenger of Allah ﷺ had not placed his hand over the two corners of the Kaʿba opposite Al-Hijr only because the Kaʿba was not rebuilt on its original foundations laid by Abraham. (Using translation from Bukhārī 1583)
[Machine] This is from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . I believe that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not neglect to receive them except for the fact that they are not on the foundations of the house, and people do not circumambulate behind the stone except for that.
I asked the Prophet ﷺ whether the round wall (near Kaʿba) was part of the Kaʿba. The Prophet ﷺ replied in the affirmative. I further said, "What is wrong with them, why have they not included it in the building of the Kaʿba?" He said, "Don't you see that your people (Quraish) ran short of money (so they could not include it inside the building of Kaʿba)?" I asked, "What about its gate? Why is it so high?" He replied, "Your people did this so as to admit into it whomever they liked and prevent whomever they liked. Were your people not close to the Pre-Islamic Period of ignorance (i.e. they have recently embraced Islam) and were I not afraid that they would dislike it, surely I would have included the (area of the) wall inside the building of the Kaʿba and I would have lowered its gate to the level of the ground." (Using translation from Bukhārī 1584)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "If it were not for the recent conversion of your people to disbelief, I would have demolished the Kaaba and expanded it with more stones. But since your people have recently shortened its construction, Al-Harith ibn Abdullah ibn Abi Rabiah said, 'Do not say that, O Commander of the Faithful, for I have heard the Mother of the Believers speak about this.' He said, 'If I had heard about this before I demolished it, I would have left it as it was, built by Ibn Az-Zubair.'"
[Machine] "O Aisha, if your people did not have a recent pact of partnership, I would have demolished the Kaaba and attached it to the ground, and I would have placed two doors for it, one in the east and one in the west. And I would have added six cubits of stone to it, for Quraish had limited it when they rebuilt the Kaaba."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to her, "If it wasn't for your people's recent conversion from ignorance, I would have commanded the Kaaba to be demolished and rebuilt. I would have placed in it what was taken out, and attached it firmly to the ground. I would have made two doors for it, one on the eastern side and one on the western side. But they are not capable of building it, so I extended the construction of Ibrahim to reach it." He said, "This is what Ibn Zubayr intended when he demolished it." Yazid ibn Ruman said, "I witnessed Ibn Zubayr demolishing it and I saw the stones of the construction of Ibrahim, each the size of a camel's hump, fitted together tightly or overlapping." Jarir said, "I asked him, 'Where was its location?' He said, 'I will show you now.' So he took me inside the stone and pointed to a place and said, 'Here it is.' Jarir said, 'I estimated it to be around six yards or so from the stone.'"

[Machine] "Narrated by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he used to, when performing the Hajj or Umrah, first walk three circuits around the Kaaba, at a fast pace for four rounds, then he would perform two prostrations of prayer, and then he would walk between Safa and Marwah."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said that "al-Istijmar" is a purification method, and "al-Ramy" (stoning the pillars) is a purification method, and the "Sa'y" (walking) between Safa and Marwa is a purification method, and "Tawaf" (circumambulation) is a purification method. And when one of you performs "al-Istijmar", then let him perform it with a "Taww" (an odd number of stones), as stated by Al-Ruzbary in his narration. And "al-Taww" is the "Witr" (an odd number).

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "When the Prophet ﷺ completed the Tawaf, he went to the Station and said, 'And take the Station of Abraham as a place of prayer.' [Surah Al-Baqarah: 125] So, he performed two Rak'ahs (units of prayer)."
[Machine] We entered upon Jabir ibn Abdullah and he mentioned the hadith about the Prophet's pilgrimage. He said, "Until we reached the Kaaba with him. He took hold of the corner, made three stops, and walked four steps. Then, he proceeded to the station of Ibrahim ﷺ and recited 'And take, [O believers], from the station of Ibrahim a place of prayer.' He placed the station between himself and the Kaaba. My father used to say, and I do not know it except from the Prophet, he used to recite in the two rak'ahs: 'Say, He is Allah, [who is] One' and 'Say, O disbelievers.'" Then, he returned to the Kaaba and took hold of the corner.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ circled the Kaaba and stopped at the Black Stone three times. Then he prayed two units of prayer and recited in them Surah Al-Kafirun and Surah Al-Ikhlas. This is what I found.
[Machine] I heard Ibn Umar saying, "The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , arrived and circumambulated the Ka'bah, then he performed two raka'ahs behind the Maqam. After that, he went out to Safa and said, 'Allah says, 'Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah you have a good example to follow'.'" (Surah Al-Ahzab 33:21)

[Machine] Umar, Al-Hasan, Al-Husayn, Ibn Zubeir, and Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with them) prayed them (i.e., Dhuhr and Asr) together, Ibn Umar, after the Fajr prayer, and these (i.e., Al-Hasan, Al-Husayn, Ibn Zubeir, and Abu Darda), after the Asr prayer.

The Prophet ﷺ said: Do not prevent anyone from going round this House (the Ka'bah) and from praying any moment he desires by day or by night. The narrator Fadl (ibn Ya'qub) said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Banu Abdu Munaf, do not stop anyone. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1894)

[Machine] When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to Safa, he returned to the black stone and touched it. This is mentioned in the authentic hadith narrated by Hatim ibn Isma'il from Ja'far.

When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ conquered Mecca, I said (to myself): I shall put on my clothes, and my house lay on the way, I shall watch how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ behaves. So I went out. I saw that the Prophet ﷺ and his Companions had come out from the Ka'bah and embraced the House (the Ka'bah) from its entrance (al-Bab) to al-Hatim. They placed their cheek on the House (the Ka'bah) while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was amongst them. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1898)

I went round the Ka'bah along with Abdullah ibn Amr. When we came behind the Ka'bah I asked: Do you not seek refuge? He uttered the words: I seek refuge in Allah from the Hell-fire. He then went (farther) and touched the Black Stone, and stood between the corner (Black Stone) and the entrance of the Ka'bah. He then placed his breast, his face, his hands and his palms in this manner, and he spread them, and said: I saw the apostle of Allah ﷺ doing like this. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1899)

"When he went tout the Masjid heading for As-Safa, I heard the Messenger of Allah say: We will start with that with which Allah started.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2969)
when the Messenger of Allah stood on top of As-Safa, he recited the Takbir three times and said: "La ilaha illallah, Wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu, yuhyi wa yumitu, wa huwaala kulli shayin qadir (There is none worthy of worship except Allah alone with no partner or associate, His is the dominion and to Him be praise, He gives life and death, and He has power over all things)." He did three times, and supplicated, and did the same a top Al-Marwah. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2972)
when the Messenger of Allah came down from As-Safa he would walk until he reached the bottom of the valley, then he would hasten until he came out of it. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2981)
[Machine] We entered upon Jabir ibn Abdullah and he mentioned the hadith regarding the pilgrimage of the Prophet ﷺ . He said, "Then he exited the door towards Safa, and when he approached Safa, he recited, 'Indeed, Safa and Marwa are among the symbols of Allah' [Al-Baqarah 2:158]. He started with what Allah started with, so he began with Safa and climbed it until he saw the Kaaba. Then he glorified and praised Allah, and said, 'There is no deity but Allah alone, without any partners. His is the dominion and to Him is the praise, He gives life and causes death, and He is over all things competent. There is no deity but Allah alone. He fulfilled His promise, supported His servant, and defeated the allies alone.' Then he supplicated during that and said the same three times. Then he descended to Marwa, and when his feet touched the sand of the valley, he ran until he reached Marwa. He did the same on Marwa as he did on Safa until he completed the last round on Marwa."
[Machine] And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered and began with the Black Stone, touched it, then circumambulated seven times, and then prayed two units behind the Station. Then he continued until he reached Safa, he ascended it until he could see the House, and he praised Allah and invoked Him.
[Machine] He said, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ approached until he reached the Black Stone and touched it, then he circled the Kaaba. When he finished his circumambulation, he came to Safa and Marwah and climbed upon it until he could see the Kaaba. He raised his hands, praised Allah, and supplicated with whatever he wished to supplicate for.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ used to perform the first circumambulation of the Kaaba by walking three times and running four times. And when he would perform the sa'i between Safa and Marwa, he would walk briskly with his stomach held in. So, I asked Nafi', "Did Abdullah used to walk when he reached the Yamani corner?" He said, "No, except if he encountered a crowd at the corner. He would not leave it until he had passed it."
[Machine] If a man among you performs Hajj, let him circumambulate the Ka'bah seven times and pray two units of prayer at the Station (of Ibrahim). Then he should start at Safa and face the Ka'bah and make seven takbirs (reciting: Allahu Akbar) between each two takbirs. He should praise Allah and send salutations upon the Prophet ﷺ and make supplications for himself and do the same at Marwah.
[Machine] And he would make three takbeers and say: There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. His is the dominion, and His is the praise, and He is able to do all things. And he would do that seven times. That is twenty-one takbeers and seven talbiyahs. Then he would supplicate and ask Allah. Then he would descend until he reached the bottom of Mas'il, then he would hurry until he appeared from it. Then he would walk until he reached Al-Marwah, and he would climb upon it and do the same as he did upon As-Safa. He would do that seven times until he finished his sa'y.
[Machine] He heard Abdullah bin Umar while he was on Safa calling and saying, "O Allah, You have said: 'Call upon Me, I will respond to you.' [Ghafir: 60] And indeed, You do not fail in Your promise. And I ask You, just as You have guided me to Islam, do not let it be taken away from me until You cause me to die while I am a Muslim."
[Machine] He used to say on Safa: O Allah, protect us with Your religion, obedience to You, obedience to Your Messenger, and keep us away from Your limits. O Allah, make us love You, Your angels, Your prophets, and Your messengers, and make us love Your righteous servants. O Allah, make us beloved to You, Your angels, Your prophets, Your messengers, and Your righteous servants. O Allah, make things easy for us and keep away from us what is difficult. Forgive us in the hereafter and the present, and make us among the leaders of the righteous.
[Machine] He used to prolong the standing (in prayer) until, for fear of him becoming unconscious, we would sit down. He would then perform the takbir (saying "Allahu Akbar") three times and say, "There is no god but Allah, alone without partner. His is the Kingdom and His is the praise, and He is Able to do all things" (i.e. Sayyid al-Istighfar). He would then supplicate extensively, raising his voice and lowering it, to the extent that he would ask Allah to fulfill his need in whatever he sought from Him. He would then perform the takbir three times and repeat the same phrase as before, then he would supplicate extensively in the same manner, until he did this seven times. He would say this at as-Safa and al-Marwah (during Hajj and 'Umrah). And Abu al-Hasan al-'Alawi informed us from 'Abdullah bin ash-Sharqi, who narrated from Abu Zur'a, who narrated from 'Abdullah bin Yazid, who narrated from Sadaqah, who narrated from 'Iyad bin 'Abdul-Rahman al-Ansari, who narrated from Musa bin 'Uqbah, who narrated from Salim, who narrated from 'Abdullah bin 'Umar, who narrated from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ the same as above.
[Machine] He used to say at Safa, "O Allah, let me live according to the Sunnah of Your Prophet ﷺ and cause me to die upon his religion, and protect me from the misguidance of trials and tribulations."
I performed Hajj with Ibn Masʿud , and saw him doing Rami of the big Jamra (Jamrat-ul-Aqaba) with seven small pebbles, keeping the Kaʿba on his left side and Mina on his right. He then said, "This is the place where the one on whom Surat-al-Baqara was revealed (i.e. Messenger of Allah ﷺ ) stood." (Using translation from Bukhārī 1749)
[Machine] "But I command you to do it; obedience to the call for prayer was responded to by Ibrahim. So when he descended into the valley, he hastened and said, 'O Allah, forgive and have mercy, as You are the Most Honorable, the Most Generous.' This is the most authentic narration regarding that, narrated by Ibn Mas'ood."
[Machine] I heard Ibn Umar saying between Safa and Marwa, "My Lord, forgive me and have mercy on me, as You are the Most Honorable, the Most Generous."
[Machine] Someone told me that they saw Uthman ibn Affan standing in a pool beneath Safa and he did not show any signs of discomfort.
