12. Ḥajj and ʿUmrah (9/34)
[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ delivered a sermon at Arafat. When he said "Labbaik Allahumma Labbaik" (Here I am, O Allah, here I am), he said, "Verily, the best is the good of the Hereafter."
[Machine] Abu al-Abbas al-Asamm narrated to Anbaa al-Rabi' that al-Shafi'i narrated to Sa'id, who narrated from Ibn Jurayj, who informed me that Humaid al-A'raj narrated from Mujahid who said, "The Prophet ﷺ used to loudly proclaim from his mount, 'Labbaik Allahumma Labbaik.' He mentioned this proclamation and said, 'And when it was one particular day and people were turning away from him, as if he was amazed by it, he increased in the proclamation, 'Labbaik.' Verily, the true life is the life of the hereafter.'" Ibn Jurayj said, "And I thought that was the day of Arafah."
12.78 [Machine] Who preferred limiting oneself to fulfilling the needs of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?
[Machine] Sa'd saw a group of his relatives as he was performing tawaf around the Kaaba. Sa'd said, "Indeed, he is the one with the high ranks. This is not how we used to perform tawaf during the time of the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ ."
12.79 [Machine] What did the polytheists say in the Talbiya?
[Machine] Indeed, the polytheists used to go around the Kaaba saying "Labbayka, labbayka, lā sharīka laka," and the Prophet ﷺ would respond "Qad qad." They would then say "il-la shariqun huwa laka tamlikuhu wa ma malak," and "ghufrānak, ghufrānak." Allah then revealed, "And Allah would not punish them while you are among them, nor will He punish them while they seek forgiveness" (Quran 8:33). Ibn Abbas said, "They had the protection of the Prophet ﷺ and seeking forgiveness." The Prophet ﷺ passed away, but seeking forgiveness remained. Allah also revealed, "And why should Allah not punish them while they avert people from al-Masjid al-Haram and they were not its guardians? Its protectors are none but the righteous, but most of them do not know" (Quran 8:34). This is the punishment of the Hereafter, while that (punishment in this life) is the punishment of the world.
12.80 [Machine] What is recommended to say during the Tahlbiyah?
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ used to, when he finished performing the ritual washing (tawaf), ask Allah for His pleasure and forgiveness and seek refuge in His mercy from the Fire. Saleh said, "I heard Al-Qasim ibn Muhammad say that when he finished his tawaf, he was ordered to send prayers upon the Prophet ﷺ . This is the narration of Al-Asbahani, and Ibn Abdan did not mention the incident from Al-Qasim ibn Muhammad."
12.81 [Machine] The woman does not raise her voice in chanting as evidence from the Prophet's statement: "Praising is for men, and clapping is for women.
[Machine] The woman does not ascend above Safa and Marwa, nor does she raise her voice in the (act of) Talbiyah, except when standing in Sai.
12.82 [Machine] The woman does not veil during her ihram and does not wear gloves
[Machine] "O Messenger of Allah, what do you command us to wear of clothing for the pilgrimage?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not wear shirts, nor pants, nor shoulder wraps, nor berans, nor sandals, except if someone does not have two sandals, then they may wear khuffs (leather socks) that cover what is below the ankles. And do not wear anything from clothes that have been touched by saffron or waras. And the woman in ihram should not cover her face, nor wear gloves."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited women from wearing niqab and gloves while in the state of ihram. As for the hadith of Juwayriyah bint Asma 9043, Abu Nasr 'Umar ibn 'Abdul Aziz informed us that Abu al-Hasan 'Ali ibn al-Fadl ibn Muhammad ibn 'Aqil al-Khuzai narrated to him that Ibrahim ibn Hashim al-Bagawi reported to him from 'Abdullah that a man stood up and called out to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, asking what clothing should we wear when in the state of ihram. So he mentioned the narration in a similar way to the narration of Layth.
Ibn ‘Umar reported that the Prophet ﷺ as saying A woman in the sacred state (wearing ihram) must not be veiled or wear gloves. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1826)
‘Abd Allaah bin Umar said that he heard the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ prohibiting women in the sacred state (wearing ihram) to wear gloves, veil(their faces) and to wear clothes with dye of waras or saffron on them. But afterwards they can wear any kind of clothing they like dyed yellow or silk or jewelry or trousers or shirts or shoes. Abu Dawud said ‘Abdah and Muhammad bin Ishaq narrated this tradition from Muhammad bin Ishaq up to the words “And to wear clothes with dye of waras or saffron on them”. They did not mention the words after them. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1827)
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said: "The woman in ihram should not cover her face or wear gloves." Abu Dawud narrated it, as well as Ubaidullah ibn Umar, Malik ibn Anas, Ayoub narrating it as an attributed statement of Ibn Umar. The sheikh and Ubaidullah ibn Umar extended the narration to the phrase "and not ride a camel". He also said, "She should not cover her face or wear gloves." Abu Abdullah Al-Hafiz narrated it, and Abu Ali Al-Hafiz said, "The woman should not cover her face." This hadith has been included in the narration.
[Machine] The woman's ihram is on her face and the man's ihram is on his head like this.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There is no prohibition on a woman except on her face." Abu Ahmad ibn 'Adi said, "I do not know anyone who narrates it from 'Ubaidullah except for Abu Al-Jamal." This is what the sheikh and Ayyub ibn Muhammad, Abu Al-Jamal, said. He is weak according to the people of knowledge in hadith, as Yahya ibn Ma'in and others have weakened him. And this hadith has also been narrated from another unknown source from 'Ubaidullah ibn 'Umar, in a raised manner, and what is preserved is in a suspended state.
[Machine] Al-Muharramah is allowed to wear any clothing she wishes, except for a dress touched by musk or saffron. She is not allowed to wear a face veil or cover her face, and she is to let her garment hang down over her face if she chooses to.
12.83 [Machine] The woman should wear a garment covering her face and avoid coming into contact with it.
[Machine] The passengers used to pass by us while we were with the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , and we were in a state of ihram. When they passed by us, one of us would lower her headscarf from her head onto her face. And when they passed by us, we would uncover it again. And this continued like that.
12.84 [Machine] The woman perfumes herself before entering the state of ihram, and she combs her hair with perfume. What has been narrated about Umm Waraqa, from Aisha, the saying of the Prophet ﷺ : "Cover your head and comb your hair, and perform the rites of Hajj.
We were proceeding to Mecca along with the Prophet ﷺ. We pasted on our foreheads the perfume known as sukk at the time of wearing ihram. When one of us perspired, it (the perfume) came down on her face. The Prophet ﷺ saw it but did not forbid it. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1830)
[Machine] "To wipe her hands with henna upon entering the state of 'ihram', while in a state of unawareness. Al-Shafi'i said: 'I prefer it for her.' Al-Shaykh said: 'It has also been narrated from Musa ibn 'Ubaydah, who said: 'Abdullah ibn Dinar informed me that Ibn 'Umar used to say: 'It is from the Sunnah for the woman to be massaged with henna on the night of entering 'ihram', and to cover her head with a washcloth that does not contain fragrance, and not to prohibit anything.' And that is not protected.'"
12.85 [Machine] The woman circulates and wanders at night if she is famous for her beauty, and no one throws sand on her. It has been narrated on the authority of Tawus that he said: The messenger of Allah ﷺ spent the night with his wives. And this has been narrated with a weak chain of narration from Aisha.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ gave permission to his companions, so they visited the House (Kaaba) on the day of Sacrifice at noon. And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ visited it with his wives at night. Muhammad ibn Ishaq ibn Yasar narrated it from Abdur Rahman with his chain of narrators. She (Aisha) said, "He (the Prophet) completed his circumambulation on the day of Sacrifice until night." Abu Az-Zubair narrated it from Aisha and Ibn Abbas that the Prophet ﷺ delayed the circumambulation on the day of Sacrifice until nightfall.
[Machine] Women are not required to do Sa'i between Safa and Marwa, meaning walking between the small hills of Safa and Marwa in the courtyard of Masjid al-Haram. This was narrated from the Jurists among the Followers of the Companions in the city of Madinah.
12.86 [Machine] The Gathering of Forbidden Things.
12.87 [Machine] What clothing is prohibited to be worn by a person in a state of Ihram?
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The pilgrim should not wear a shirt, turban, trousers, burnoose, garment touched by saffron, nor silk, nor two socks, except for those who cannot find two sandals. If he cannot find them, then he should cut them until they are below the ankles."
[Machine] A man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ what the one in a state of ihram should wear. He replied, "Do not wear a shirt, or a turban, or trousers, or a cloak, or shoes, except for one who cannot find sandals, then let him wear shoes and cut them below the ankles. And do not wear any clothing that has been touched by saffron and waras." And Muhammad bin Abdullah Al-Hafiz informed us that Yahya bin Mansur Al-Qadi narrated to us that Muhammad bin Abdus Salam narrated to us that Yahya bin Yahya said, "I read it with Malik, and he mentioned it."
[Machine] A man called to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was giving a sermon at that place, and Nafi' gestured towards the front of the mosque. So he said, "O Messenger of Allah, what should the pilgrim wear?" He said, "The pilgrim should not wear trousers, turban, qamis, or slippers except if he cannot find two sandals, then he should cut them and wear them under his ankles. And nothing of the clothes should be touched by musk and saffron, nor should he wear the burnous." This is the wording of Al-Muqaddam's narration, and in the narration of Sulayman it is mentioned.
[Machine] A man stood up to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, what clothing is prohibited for the pilgrim to wear?" He replied, "The pilgrim should not wear a shirt, turban, cloak, trousers, robe, or a garment touched by saffron or perfume. The pilgrim should not wear shoes unless he cannot find two sandals, in which case he cuts them below the ankles with their meaning."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade wearing shirts, robes, pants, and sandals, except if one could not find shoes. He also prohibited wearing a garment that has been dyed with saffron or waras (a type of plant) which refers to the prohibited garments. In another narration by Al-Ashajj, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade wearing a prohibited garment such as a shirt or a robe.
[Machine] He said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade the pilgrim from wearing a garment dyed with saffron or wars, and he said, "Whoever does not find two sandals, should wear two khuffs and cut them below the ankles." In another narration from Ash-Shafi'i, it is said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade it, and the rest is the same.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressed us at Arafat and said, "Whoever does not find a garment (izar), let him wear trousers (saraawil), and whoever does not find sandals (na'alayn), let him wear socks (khuffayn)."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "If one cannot find two sandals, he should wear two socks and cut them in a way that they are shorter than the ankles." Umar said: "Look to see which of the narrations is earlier, the narration of Ibn Umar or the narration of Ibn Abbas." This was narrated by others from Ibn Uyaynah from Umar. And Umar bin Dinar carried both of them on Naskh from one another. It was mentioned in the narration of Ibn Awan and others from Nafi' from Ibn Umar that this was in Madinah before the Ihram. And it was mentioned in the narration of Shu'bah from Umar from Abu Asha'athaa Jabir bin Zaid from Ibn Abbas that this was in Arafat, and that was after the incident of Ibn Umar. And as for Imam Shafi'i, may Allah have mercy on him, he said: "I think they should be cut, because that is in the narration of Ibn Umar, even if it is not in the narration of Ibn Abbas. And both of them are truthful, trustworthy, and there is no addition from one of them to the other that the other did not mention, either because he forgot it, doubted it, did not convey it, or conveyed it but it was not conveyed about him." There is difference of opinion among them regarding some of these meanings.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw a man tied with a rope that was torn, so he said to him, "Untie the rope and tie it again twice." This hadith was also narrated by Ibn Abi Dhi'b from Salih bin Hassan from the Prophet ﷺ, and it is also torn, except that one of them confirms it with the other, then with what remains of the narration of Ibn 'Umar, then with the fact that when it is tied, it becomes like a stitch.

[Machine] We used to wear clothes that we hadn't washed, and we would wear the garment called "al-mumashshaq," which is only a lining. 'Ikrimah, the freed slave of Ibn 'Abbas, narrated that the Prophet ﷺ changed his clothes with "at-tan'aim," while he was in a state of Ihram. Abu Dawud included this narration in his book "Al-Marasi."

[Machine] He heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbidding women from wearing gloves, face veils, and anything that touches the stick and saffron from clothing. After that, they should wear whatever colors of clothing they like, except for yellow, green, striped, tight trousers, long shirts, and sandals. Abu Dawood narrated this, and this was also narrated by Ibn Ishaq from Nafi' from Abdah and Muhammad ibn Salamah until his words, "and anything that touches the stick and saffron from clothing" without mentioning anything else after it.

Salim ibn Abdullah said: Abdullah ibn Umar used to do so, that is to say, he would cut the shoes of a woman who put on ihram; then Safiyyah, daughter of AbuUbayd, reported to him that Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated to her that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave licence to women in respect of the shoes (i.e. women are not required to cut the shoes). He, therefore, abandoned it. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1831)

[Machine] He said: I saw Uthman ibn Affan, may Allah be pleased with him, on the Day of Arafah while he was in ihram (state of consecration), and his face was covered with a purple cloth.
[Machine] He saw Uthman bin Affan covering his face while in a state of ihram.
[Machine] That Uthman ibn Affan, Zaid ibn Thabit, and Marwan ibn al-Hakam used to wrap their faces even though they were free.
[Machine] The pilgrim washes himself and washes his clothes and covers his nose from the dust and covers his face while he is asleep, and Ibn Umar disagreed with them.
[Machine] "That Abdullah bin Umar used to say that whatever is above the chin from the head should not be covered by the pilgrim."
