I was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ one night. He came down (from the ride) and relieved himself. He then came and I poured water upon him from the jar that I carried with me. He performed ablution and wiped over his socks. (Using translation from Muslim 274c)  

بَيْنَمَا أَنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ «إِذْ نَزَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَضَى حَاجَتَهُ ثُمَّ جَاءَ فَصَبَبْتُ عَلَيْهِ الْمَاءَ مِنْ إِدَوَاةٍ كَانَتْ مَعِي فَتَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ»  

[Machine] "I was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he signaled to me for his need. When he finished, I brought him a container with water and poured it over his hand so he performed ablution. He was wearing a tight-sleeved garment, so he pulled his hand out from under the garment and washed his arms and wiped over his socks."  

«كُنْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَتَبَرَّزَ لِحَاجَتِهِ فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ أَتَيْتُهُ بِإِدَاوَةٍ فِيهَا مَاءٌ فَصَبَبْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَتَوَضَّأَ وَكَانَتْ عَلَيْهِ جُبَّةٌ ضَيِّقَةٌ الْكُمَّيْنِ فَأَخْرَجَ يَدَهُ مِنْ تَحْتِ الْجُبَّةِ فَغَسَلَ ذِرَاعَيْهِ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say "Allah hears the one who praises Him" and he would say "O Allah, there is no one who can prevent what You have given, and no one can give what You have prevented, and no grandeur can benefit its possessor against You."  

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا قَالَ «سَمِعَ اللهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ» قَالَ «اللهُمَّ لَا مَانِعَ لِمَا أَعْطَيْتَ وَلَا مُعْطِيَ لِمَا مَنَعْتَ وَلَا يَنْفَعُ ذَا الْجَدِّ مِنْكَ الْجَدُّ»  

[Machine] That Al-Mughira stood up and praised and thanked Allah, then he said: "Verily, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'Whoever lies about me intentionally, let him take his seat in the Hellfire.'"  

أَنَّ الْمُغِيرَةَ قَامَ فَحَمِدَ اللهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَنْ كَذَبَ عَلَيَّ مُعْتَمِدًا فَلْيَتَبَوَّأْ مَقْعَدَهُ مِنَ النَّارِ»  

[Machine] "Mugheerah stood up and praised and thanked Allah, then he said, 'Indeed, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Whoever lies on me intentionally, let him take his place in the Fire."'"  

أَنَّ الْمُغِيرَةَ قَامَ فَحَمِدَ اللهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَنْ كَذَبَ عَلَيَّ مُعْتَمِدًا فَلْيَتَبَوَّأْ مَقْعَدَهُ مِنَ النَّارِ»  

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Verily, lying to me is not like lying to anyone else."  

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «إِنَّ الْكَذِبَ عَلَيَّ لَيْسَ كَالْكَذِبِ عَلَى أَحَدٍ»  

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Verily, lying upon me is not like lying upon anyone else."  

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «إِنَّ الْكَذِبَ عَلَيَّ لَيْسَ كَالْكَذِبِ عَلَى أَحَدٍ»  

[Machine] I heard the Prophet of Allah ﷺ saying, "Indeed, lying to me is not like lying to anyone else."  

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «إِنَّ الْكَذِبَ عَلَيَّ لَيْسَ كَالْكَذِبِ عَلَى أَحَدٍ»  

[Machine] "That he was with the Prophet ﷺ on a journey, and he performed ablution and wiped over his socks."  

أَنَّهُ «كَانَ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي سَفَرٍ فَتَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ»  

[Machine] "That the Prophet ﷺ performed ablution and wiped over his socks."  

«أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ تَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ»  

[Machine] A blow struck and injured her with a stick of wood, killing her. As a consequence, her killer's blood money was paid by the tribe of the victim. Inside her belly was a fetus. The Bedouin man said, "Will I be penalized for killing someone who neither ate nor drank nor screamed?" He then launched into his argument. The Prophet, ﷺ , responded, "Is a gazelle-like creature like a gazelle?" Abu Hudhayfah added more to his statement. The matter inside the belly was settled with a blood money payment.  

ضَرَبَتْ ضَرَّةٌ ضَرَّتَهَا بِعَمُودِ فُسْطَاطٍ فَقَتَلَتْهَا فَقُضِي بِدِيَتِهَا عَلَى عَصَبَةِ الْقَاتِلَةِ وَبِمَا فِي بَطْنِهَا غُرَّةً فَقَالَ الْأَعْرَابِيُّ أَتُغَرِّمُنِي مَنْ لَا طَعِمَ وَلَا شَرِبَ وَلَا صَاحَ فَاسْتَهَلَّ فَمِثْلُ ذَلِكَ يُطَلُّ؟ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «أَسَجْعٌ كَسَجْعِ الْأَعْرَابِ؟» زَادَ أَبُو حُذَيْفَةَ فِي حَدِيثِهِ وَقُضِي فِيمَا فِي بَطْنِهَا بِغُرَّةٍ  

[Machine] There was a man who had two wives. One of them threw the other with a rock or a wooden stick, causing her to miscarry. The matter was brought to the attention of the Prophet ﷺ, who decided the case immediately. The woman's relatives asked, "How can we punish someone who doesn't scream, ask for assistance, or even eat or drink? Is it fair to treat her like that?" The Prophet ﷺ then asked, "Is she as harsh as the harsh desert dwellers?" And he ruled in favor of the woman's guardians.  

كَانَ عِنْدَ رَجُلٍ مِنْ هُذَيْلٍ امْرَأَتَانِ فَرَمَتْ إِحْدَاهُمَا الْأُخْرَى بِفِهْرٍ أَوْ بِعَمُودِ فُسْطَاطٍ فَأَسْقَطَتْ فَرَفَعَ ذَلِكَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَضَى فِيهِ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بِغُرَّةٍ فَقَالَ أَوْلِيَاؤُهَا كَيْفَ نَدِي مَنْ لَا صَاحَ وَلَا اسْتَهَلَّ وَلَا شَرِبَ وَلَا أَكَلَ فَمِثْلُ ذَلِكَ يُطَلُّ؟ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «أَسَجْعٌ كَسَجْعِ الْأَعْرَابِ؟» وَقَضَى بِعَقْلِهِ عَلَى أَوْلِيَاءِ الْمَرْأَةِ  

[Machine] While I was traveling on a dark night, riding on a camel from the caravan, Al-Mughira bin Shu'ba said to me, "Who are you?" I replied, "I am the Messenger of Allah." So he detained me until he caught up with me and then we continued together. Afterwards, he found a place to rest and said, "Do you have water?" I asked him, "Would I harm you?" He said, "So I brought him water and he performed ablution and wiped over his heels. We did not part ways until we prayed the Fajr prayer."  

بَيْنَمَا أَنَا أَسِيرُ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ إِذْ أَنَا بِنَعِيرِ رَاكِبٍ مِنَ الرَّكْبِ قَالَ الْمُغِيرَةُ بْنُ شُعْبَةَ قُلْتُ مَنْ أَنْتَ؟ قَالَ «أَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ» فَحَبَسْتُ حَتَّى لَحِقَنِي فَسَايَرْتُهُ ثُمَّ نَزَلَ فَتَبَرَّزَ قَالَ «عِنْدَكَ مَاءٌ؟» قُلْتُ أَيَضُرُّكَ؟ قَالَ «فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِمَاءٍ فَتَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ فَمَا افْتَرَقْنَا حَتَّى صَلَّيْنَا صَلَاةَ الْفَجْرِ»  

[Machine] I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ fulfilling his need, then he performed ablution and wiped over his socks.  

«رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَضَى حَاجَتَهُ ثُمَّ تَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me to Najran, and they said to me, "What do you say about the verse you recite, 'O sister of Aaron?'" Between Moses and Jesus, what do you know?" So I went to the Prophet ﷺ and told him, and he said, "Did you not inform them that they were called by their own names and by the names of the righteous before them?"  

بَعَثَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَى نَجْرَانَ فَقَالُوا لِي فِيمَا قَالُوا كَانَتْ فِيمَا تَقْرَؤُونَ {يَا أُخْتَ هَارُونَ} قَدْ كَانَ بَيْنَ مُوسَى وَبَيْنَ عِيسَى مَا قَدْ عَلِمْتُمْ؟ قَالَ فَأَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ فَقَالَ «أَفَلَا أَخْبَرْتَهُمْ أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا يُسَمَّوْنَ بِأَسْمَائِهِمْ وبَالصَّالِحِينَ الَّذِينَ كَانُوا قَبْلَهُمْ»  

[Machine] "He (the narrator) said, 'He (the Prophet) stood up in the first two units of prayer, so they (the companions) praised Allah in it and did not sit. Then, when he finished his prayer, he performed two prostrations after the greeting (salam).' Then he said, 'This is what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did.'"  

أَنَّهُ «قَامَ فِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ الْأُولَيَيْنِ فَسَبَّحُوا بِهِ فَلَمْ يَجْلِسْ فَلَمَّا قَضَى صَلَاتَهُ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ بَعْدَ التَّسْلِيمِ» ثُمَّ قَالَ «هَكَذَا فَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ»  

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ recited the Shahada when he raised his head from the two prostrations of forgetfulness.  

«أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ تَشَهَّدَ لَمَّا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنْ سَجْدَتَيِ السَّهْوِ»  

[Machine] Yes, he is a man who comes after people have settled in their homes and taken their rest. It is said to him, "Enter Paradise," and he says, "O Lord, how can I enter it when people have settled in their homes and taken their rest?" He said, "Are you not pleased that you have what a king has among the kings of the world?" He said, "I am pleased, my Lord." He said, "You have that and the like of that and the like of that and Sufyan (a narrator) interlocked his fingers five times and he said, 'I am pleased, my Lord.'" He said, "You have that and what your soul desires and your eyes find delight in." He said, "I am pleased, my Lord." Moses said, "O Lord, inform me about the highest rank of the people of Paradise." He said, "Those are the ones you wished for and I will inform you about them. I planted their honor with my own hands and sealed it with my own seal and no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and it has not occurred to human heart." And the confirmation of that is the statement of Allah, "No person knows what is kept hidden for them of joy as a reward for what they used to do" (Quran 32:17).  

نَعَمْ هُوَ رَجُلٌ يَجِيءُ بَعْدَمَا نَزَلَ النَّاسُ مَنَازِلَهُمْ وَأَخَذُوا أَخَذَاتِهِمْ فَيُقَالُ لَهُ ادْخُلِ الْجَنَّةَ فَيَقُولُ يَا رَبِّ وَكَيْفَ أَدْخُلُهَا وَقَدْ نَزَلَ النَّاسُ مَنَازِلَهُمْ وَأَخَذُوا أَخَذَاتِهِمْ؟ فَقَالَ أَمَا تَرْضَى أَنْ يَكُونَ لَكَ مِثْلُ مَا كَانَ لِمَلِكٍ مِنَ الْمُلُوكِ فِي الدُّنْيَا؟ فَيَقُولُ رَضِيتُ رَبِّي فَيَقُولُ إِنَّ لَكَ مِثْلَهُ وَمِثْلَهُ وَمِثْلَهُ وَعَقَدَ سُفْيَانُ أَصَابِعَهُ الْخَمْسَ فَيَقُولُ رَضِيتُ رَبِّي فَيَقُولُ إِنَّ لَكَ هَذَا وَمَا اشْتَهَتْ نَفْسُكَ وَلَذَّتْ عَيْنُكَ فَيَقُولُ رَضِيتُ رَبِّي قَالَ مُوسَى يَا رَبِّ فَأَخْبِرْنِي عَنْ أَعْلَى أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ مَنْزِلَةً قَالَ نَعَمْ أُولَئِكَ أَرَدْتَ وَسَأُخْبِرُكَ عَنْهُمْ غَرَسْتُ كَرَامَتَهُمْ بِيَدِي وَخَتَمْتُ عَلَيْهَا فَلَمْ تَرَ عَيْنٌ وَلَمْ تَسْمَعْ أُذُنٌ وَلَا يَخْطُرُ عَلَى قَلْبِ بَشَرٍ وَمِصْدَاقُ ذَلِكَ فِي كِتَابِ اللهِ {فَلَا تَعْلَمُ نَفْسٌ مَا أُخْفِيَ لَهُمْ مِنْ قُرَّةِ أَعْيَنٍ جَزَاءً بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ}  

[Machine] I heard Al-Mughira delivering a sermon on the pulpit, saying, "We went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a expedition, and he went somewhere for a need. I followed him with a pitcher full of water and he put his hands out of his cloak from beneath the sleeve (of his robe) and I poured water over his hands (for him to perform ablution). Then he wiped his face and hands with his hands and wiped his head and wiped over his feet."  

سَمِعْتُ الْمُغِيرَةَ وَهُوَ يَخْطُبُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي غَزْوَةٍ «فَانْطَلَقَ لِحَاجَةٍ فَاتَّبَعْتُهُ بِإِدَاوَةٍ فَأَخْرَجَ يَدَيْهِ مِنْ جُبَّةٍ عَلَيْهِ ضَيِّقَةُ الْكُمَّيْنِ فَأَخْرَجَهُمَا مِنْ تَحْتِهَا فَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ وَيَدَيْهِ وَمَسَحَ بِرَأْسِهِ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ»  

[Machine] It was said to Al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah, "From where did the Prophet ﷺ obtain his sandals?" He said, "He was gifted them by Dhīhyat Al-Kalbi."  

قِيلَ لِلْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ مِنْ أَيْنَ كَانَ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ خُفَّانِ؟ قَالَ «أَهْدَاهُمَا لَهُ دِحْيَةُ الْكَلْبِيُّ»  

[Machine] "He (the narrator) said, 'I saw the Prophet ﷺ perform ablution and wipe over his socks. I said, 'O Abu 'Amr, where did the Prophet ﷺ get his socks from?' He answered, 'The shepherd of Al-Kalbi (tribe) gave them to him as a gift.'"  

أَنَّهُ رَأَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ تَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ قُلْتُ يَا أَبَا عَمْرٍو وَمِنْ أَيْنَ كَانَ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ خُفَّانِ؟ قَالَ أَهْدَاهُمَا لَهُ دِحْيَةُ الْكَلْبِيُّ  

[Machine] "I was among those who dug the Prophet's grave. He said, 'Let me have a turn,' so I handed him the shovel. When the Prophet ﷺ was placed in the grave, I threw the axe and said, 'The axe, the axe!' It landed, and I placed my hands on the edge (of the grave). Al-Mughirah used to say, 'I am the closest of people to the Messenger of Allah in fulfilling the covenant.'"  

«كُنْتُ فِيمَنْ حَفَرَ قَبْرَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ» قَالَ فَلَحَدْنَا لَهُ لَحْدًا فَلَمَّا أُدْخِلَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ الْقَبْرَ طَرَحْتُ الْفَأْسَ ثُمَّ قُلْتُ الْفَأْسَ الْفَأْسَ فَنَزَلَتُ فَوَضَعْتُ يَدَي عَلَى اللَّحْدِ وَكَانَ يَقُولُ الْمُغِيرَةُ «أَنَا أَقْرَبُ النَّاسِ عَهْدًا بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ»  

[Machine] A man was with Al-Mughira ibn Shu'ba, who then prayed for Muhammad, the seal of the prophets, and said, "There will be no prophet after him." Al-Mughira then said, "Is it enough for you to say 'the seal of the prophets'? We used to narrate that Jesus, son of Mary, is coming out, and if he is coming out, then he would have preceded and followed [Muhammad]."  

رَجُلٌ عِنْدَ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ صَلَّى الله عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ خَاتَمِ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ لَا نَبِيَّ بَعْدَهُ فَقَالَ الْمُغِيرَةُ حَسْبُكَ أَنْ تَقُولَ خَاتَمِ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ فَإِنَّا كُنَّا نُحَدَّثُ أَنَّ عِيسَى بْنَ مَرْيَمَ خَارِجٌ فَإِنْ كَانَ خَارِجًا فَقَدْ كَانَ قَبْلَهُ وَبَعْدَهُ  

[Machine] That the Prophet ﷺ "wiped over the socks."  

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ «مَسَحَ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ»  

[Machine] "That the Prophet ﷺ urinated, then he performed ablution and wiped over his socks and sandals."  

«أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ بَالَ فَتَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى جَوْرَبَيْهِ وَنَعْلَيْهِ»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in one of his battles, so he descended for his necessity. I approached him with ablution, and he was wearing a tight cloak. He then took out his hand from underneath it, and I poured water for him. He performed ablution and wiped over his socks.  

«كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي بَعْضِ مَغَازِيهِ فَنَزَلَ لِحَاجَتِهِ فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِوَضُوءٍ وَعَلَيْهِ جُبَّةٌ ضَيِّقَةٌ فَأَخْرَجَ يَدَهُ مِنْ تَحْتِهَا فَصَبَبْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَتَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ خُفَّيْهِ»  

[Machine] That I stood up and sat down, but this is how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed with us.  

أَنْ أَسْتَوِيَ قَائِمًا جَلَسْتُ وَلَكِنْ هَكَذَا صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) preferred to pray on a carpet or a mat.  

«كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَسْتَحِبُّ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ عَلَى فَرْوَةٍ مَدْبُوغَةٍ أَوْ حَصِيرٍ»  

[Machine] He accompanied the Prophet ﷺ and entered some of those valleys, then he entered them and fulfilled his need, then he came out and performed ablution and took off his socks. When he put them back on, he smelled a scent, so he returned and performed ablution and wiped over his socks. I said, "Did you forget, O Prophet of Allah?" He said, "No, but you forgot the command of my Lord."  

أَنَّهُ مَشَى مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَأَتَى بَعْضَ تِلْكَ الْأَوْدِيَةِ فَدَخَلَهَا فَقَضَى حَاجَتَهُ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ فَتَوَضَّأَ وَخَلَعَ الْخُفَّيْنِ فَلَمَّا لَبَسَ وَجَدَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ رِيحًا فَعَادَ فَتَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ فَقُلْتُ أَنَسِيتَ يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ؟ قَالَ «لَا بَلْ أَنْتَ نَسِيتَ بِهَذَا أَمَرَنِي رَبِّي ﷻ»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed ablution and wiped over his socks. So I said, "O Messenger of Allah, did you forget?" He replied, "No, but you forgot that my Lord commanded me to do so."  

تَوَضَّأَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَنَسِيتَ؟ قَالَ «بَلْ أَنْتَ نَسِيتَ بِهَذَا أَمَرَنِي رَبِّي»  

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ performed ablution and wiped over his socks. I said, "O Messenger of Allah, did you forget?" He replied, "No, you forgot that my Lord has commanded me to do so."  

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ تَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَنَسِيتَ؟ فَقَالَ «بَلْ أَنْتَ نَسِيتَ بِهَذَا أَمَرَنِي رَبِّي»  

[Machine] I once ate and then went to the mosque, and the Prophet ﷺ was praying. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished his prayer, he said, "Whoever eats anything from this tree should not come near our mosque." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, please extend your hand so that I can remove it from my chest." So, I removed it from my chest and he saw it tied up, and he said, "Except for a valid excuse."  

أَكَلْتُ يَوْمًا ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُ الْمَسْجِدَ وَالنَّبِيُّ ﷺ يُصَلِّي فَلَمَّا قَضَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَاتَهُ قَالَ «مَنْ أَكَلَ مِنْ هَذِهِ الشَّجَرَةِ شَيْئًا فَلَا يَقْرَبَنَّ مَسْجِدَنَا» قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ نَاوِلْنِي يَدَكَ فَأَدْخَلْتُهَا صَدْرِي فَرَآهُ مَعْصُوبًا فَقَالَ «إِلَّا مِنْ عُذْرٍ»  

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ found the smell of garlic and asked, "Who is this?" Al-Mughira bin Shu'ba replied, "I am willing to offer my life for you, O Messenger of Allah, or I swear by you that when you placed your hand on his chest, he was wearing a belt." The Prophet ﷺ said, "I see that you have an excuse."  

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ وَجَدَ رِيحَ ثُومٍ فَقَالَ «فَمَنْ هَذَا؟» قَالَ الْمُغِيرَةُ بْنُ شُعْبَةَ أَعْزِمُ عَلَيْكَ أَوْ أَقْسَمْتُ عَلَيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ لَمَا أَدْخَلْتَ يَدَكَ فَإِذَا عَلَى صَدْرِه حِزَامٌ قَالَ «أَرَى لَكَ عُذْرًا»  

[Machine] The last group of fighters who went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to wipe over our footwear. "For the traveler, three days and nights, and for the resident, one day and night, as long as he does not take them off."  

آخِرُ غَزَاةٍ غَزَوْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَمَرَنَا أَنْ نَمْسَحَ عَلَى خِفَافِنَا «لِلْمُسَافِرِ ثَلَاثَةُ أَيَّامٍ وَلَيَالِيهِنَّ وَلِلْمُقِيمِ يَوْمٌ وَلَيْلَةٌ مَا لَمْ يَخْلَعْ»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed ablution and wiped over his socks, then he prayed and placed me on his right side.  

«أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ تَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ وَصَلَّى وَأَقَامَنِي عَنْ يَمِينِهِ»  

[Machine] I went out with the Prophet ﷺ on one of his journeys. We continued until it was the time of dawn prayer. He then left and disappeared from my sight. He returned and called for water to perform ablution. He was wearing a narrow Syrian garment with short sleeves. He extended his hand from under the garment and washed his face, hands, and wiped over his feet.  

خَرَجْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي بَعْضِ مَا كَانَ يُسَافَرُ فَسِرْنَا حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ فِي وَقْتِ السَّحَرِ انْطَلَقَ فِي حَرْفٍ فَتَوَارَى عَنِّي ثُمَّ جَاءَ فَدَعَا بِطَهُورٍ وَعَلَيْهِ جُبَّةٌ شَامِيَّةٌ ضَيِّقَةُ الْكُمَّيْنِ فَأَخْرَجَ يَدَهُ مِنْ أَسْفَلِ الْجُبَّةِ وَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ وَيَدَيْهِ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ate some food, and then the prayer was established. He stood up and had already performed ablution before that. I brought him water to perform ablution, but he refused and reprimanded me. Swearing by Allah, that hurt me, so I complained to Umar. Umar said, "O Messenger of Allah, the Messenger of Allah Muhammad, the son of Shu'ba, has been hard on you for declining his offer, and he fears there might be something wrong with you." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There is nothing wrong with me except good, but he brought me the water to perform ablution, and I had already eaten. If I had accepted, people would have followed suit after me."  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَكَلَ طَعَامًا فَأُقِيمَتِ الصَّلَاةُ فَقَامَ وَقَدْ كَانَ تَوَضَّأَ قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِمَاءٍ يَتَوَضَّأُ فَانْتَهَرَنِي فَسَاءَنِي ذَلِكَ وَاللهِ فَشَكَوْتُ إِلَى عُمَرَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ الْمُغِيرَةَ بْنَ شُعْبَةَ قَدْ شَقَّ عَلَيْهِ انْتِهَارُكَ إِيَّاهُ وَخَشِيَ أَنْ يَكُونَ فِي نَفْسِكَ عَلَيْهِ شَيْءٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَيْسَ فِي نَفْسِي عَلَيْهِ شَيْءٌ إِلَّا خَيْرٌ وَلَكِنَّهُ أَتَانِي بِمَاءٍ لِأَتَوَضَّأَ وَإِنَّمَا أَكَلْتُ طَعَامًا وَلَوْ فَعَلْتُ فَعَلَ النَّاسُ بَعْدِي»  

[Machine] I heard Al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah saying, "If the Prophet ﷺ intended to pray until the soles of his feet or shins became swollen, it would be said to him, and he would say, 'Should I not be a grateful servant?'"  

إِنْ كَانَ يَعْنِي النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يُصَلِّي حَتَّى تَرِمَ قَدَمُهُ أَوْ سَاقَاهُ فَيُقَالُ لَهُ فَيَقُولُ «أَفَلَا أَكُونُ عَبْدًا شَكُورًا؟»  

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ used to pray until his feet would crack. It was said to him, "Hasn't Allah forgiven you for your past and future sins?" He said, "Should I not be a grateful servant?"  

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّي حَتَّى تَنْفَطِرَ قَدَمَاهُ فَقِيلَ لَهُ أَلَيْسَ قَدْ غَفَرَ اللهُ لَكَ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِكَ وَمَا تَأَخَّرَ؟ قَالَ «أَفَلَا أَكُونُ عَبْدًا شَكُورًا؟»  

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ used to pray until his feet swelled. He was asked about it and was told that Allah had forgiven his past and future sins. He replied, "Should I not be a grateful servant?"  

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ يُصَلِّي حَتَّى تَرِمَ قَدَمَاهُ فَقِيلَ لَهُ فِي ذَلِكَ أَتَفْعَلُ وَقَدْ غَفَرَ اللهُ لَكَ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِكَِ وَمَا تَأَخَّرَ؟ قَالَ «أَفَلَا أَكُونُ عَبْدًا شَكُورًا؟»  

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "My solace and comfort has been placed in prayer."  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «جُعِلَتْ قُرَّةُ عَيْنِي فِي الصَّلَاةِ»  

"Do not vilify the dead (and) by that harm the living." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 1982)  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَا تَسُبُّوا الْأَمْوَاتَ فَتُؤْذُوا الْأَحْيَاءَ»  

I heard Mughira b. Shu'ba saying that the sun eclipsed during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day when Ibrahim died. Upon this the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Verily the sun and the moon are the two signs among the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse on account of the death of anyone or on account of the birth of anyone. So when you see them, supplicate Allah, and observe prayer till it is over. سَمِعْتُ الْمُغِيرَةَ بْنَ شُعْبَةَ يَقُولُ انْكَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللهِ لَا يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلَا لِحَيَاتِهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُمَا فَادْعُوا اللهَ وَصَلُّوا حَتَّى تَنْكَشِفَ»  

[Machine] The sun was eclipsed on the day Ibrahim, the son of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, died. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, the sun and the moon are two signs from the signs of Allah. They do not become eclipsed for the death or the life of anyone. So, when you see them, then engage in supplication until they become clear."  

انْكَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ يَوْمَ مَاتَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ ابْنُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللهِ لَا تَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلَا لِحَيَاتِهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُمَا فَعَلَيْكُمْ بِالدُّعَاءِ حَتَّى تَنْكَشِفَ»  

[Machine] When Ibrahim, the son of the Prophet ﷺ died, the sun eclipsed and people said it eclipsed because of the death of Ibrahim. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out and said, "O people, the sun and moon do not eclipse due to the death or life of anyone, but they are signs from the signs of Allah. So when you see the eclipse, then pray until it clears."  

لَمَّا مَاتَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ ابْنُ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ انْكَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ فَقَالَ النَّاسُ انْكَسَفَتْ لِمَوْتِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ فَخَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لَا يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلَا لِحَيَاتِهِ وَلَكِنَّهُمَا آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللهِ فَإِذَا كَانَ ذَلِكَ فَصَلُّوا حَتَّى تَنْكَشِفَ»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Everyone has a companion from among the jinn." They asked, "Even you, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "Yes, but Allah has helped me against him, so he has become Muslim and only commands me to do good."  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ إِلَّا جُعِلَ مَعَهُ قَرِينٌ مِنَ الْجِنِّ» قَالُوا وَلَا أَنْتَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ «وَلَا أَنَا إِلَّا أَنَّ اللهَ أَعَانَنِي عَلَيْهِ فَأَسْلَمَ فَلَا يَأْمُرُنِي إِلَّا بِخَيْرٍ»  

[Machine] That the Prophet ﷺ performed ablution and wiped over his socks.  

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ تَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ  

[Machine] And he said, "This is how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ acted."  

وَقَالَ هَكَذَا فَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever narrates a hadith from me that he thinks is false, he is one of the liars or he said the falsehood spreaders."  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَنْ رَوَى عَنِّي حَدِيثًا يَرَى أَنَّهُ كَذِبٌ فَهُوَ أَحَدُ الْكَذَّابَيْنِ أَوْ قَالَ الْكَاذِبِينَ  

The Prophet ﷺ said: '"Whoever narrates a Hadith from me thinking it to be false, then he is one of the two liars." (Either the one who invents a lie or the one who repeats it; both are liars). (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 38)  

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «مَنْ حَدَّث عَنِّي بِحَدِيثٍ وَهُوَ يَرَى أَنَّهُ كَذِبٌ فَهُوَ أَحَدُ الْكَاذِبِينَ»
