25. Chapter of Mīm (Male) (1/33)
25.2 [Machine] Muhammad bin Muslimah al-Ansari "Badriyyu Qamah bil-Madina ila an Mat biha Sanata Thalathin wa arba'in wa sinuhu sab'un wa sab'un, wa min akhbarihi wa dhikru sinnihi wa wafatihi
[Machine] "Muhammad ibn Maslamah died in the month of Safar in the year forty-three."
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "When Allah casts the proposal of a woman into the heart of a man, there is no harm in him looking at her." This is what Yahya ibn Al-Ala'a reported from Al-Hajjaj, from Muhammad ibn Uthman.
[Machine] "I proposed to a woman and I hid from her until I looked at her. It was said to me, 'Do you do this while you are the companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?' I said, 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'If Allah puts in the heart of one of you the proposal of a woman, then there is no harm in looking at her.' This is narrated by Hafs ibn Ghayath and followed by Yazid ibn Harun.'"
[Machine] "I saw Muhammad ibn Muslimah chasing after the daughter of Dhihak with his gaze, so I said, 'Glory be to Allah, you are a companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and you look at her?" He said, 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "When Allah casts a desire for a woman in the heart of a man, it is not wrong for him to look at her."' This was narrated by Yahya ibn Sa'id from Muhammad ibn Sulaiman ibn Abi Hathmah, from his uncle Sahl ibn Abi Hathmah, as narrated by Hafs ibn Ghayath and Yazid ibn Harun from Hajjaj."
[Machine] I was sitting with Muhammad bin Maslamah when the daughter of Dihhak passed by behind him. He started to chase her with his gaze. I said, "Glory be to Allah! You are the companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and you do this?" He said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'If Allah places the speech of a woman in the heart of a man, it is not wrong for him to look at her.'"
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "If Allah puts a proposal of marriage in a person's heart, there is no harm in looking at her." This is narrated by Abd al-Wahid ibn Ziyad from al-Hajjaj from Muhammad ibn Sulaiman ibn Abi Hathmah from his father.
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "When Allah places the love of a woman in the heart of a man, there is no harm in him looking at her." This was narrated by Abu Mu'awiyah from Al-Hajjaj from Sahl ibn Muhammad ibn Abi Hathmah, from his uncle Sulayman ibn Abi Hathmah.
25.3 [Machine] What did Muhammad bin Maslamah appoint?
25.4 [Machine] Translation: Easy bin Abi Hathmah, from Muhammad bin Muslimah.
[Machine] I saw Muhammad bin Muslimah Al-Ansari observing the daughter of Ad-Dhihak playing on a wall, so he started looking at her. It was said to him, "Are you looking at her and you are the companion of the Messenger of Allah?" He said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah saying, 'When Allah casts a matter of desire for a woman in the heart of a man, it is not a problem for him to look at her.' " This is narrated by Hammad bin Salamah, who differed with the people on this hadith. The narrators have differed about whether it was Hajjaj bin Artat or Hafs bin Ghayath and Yazid bin Harun narrating from Hajjaj from Muhammad bin Sulaiman bin Abi Hathmah from his uncle Sahl bin Abi Hathmah from Muhammad bin Muslimah.
[Machine] Al-Mughirah decided, in the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , on a matter. Umar said, "If you are truthful, bring someone who knows about it." Muhammad ibn Muslimah testified that he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ decide on the matter.
[Machine] That 'Umar asked people's advice regarding the fetus that the woman has, and Al-Mugheerah said, "the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ruled in a similar case that it is considered a pregnancy from a slave or a bondswoman." 'Umar said, "If you are telling the truth, bring someone to testify with you." So, Muhammad ibn Muslimah testified that he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ verdict on such a case.
[Machine] Al-Mughira reported, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave a verdict in favor of a slave or a female slave." So Umar said, "Who will testify with you if you are truthful?" Muhammad ibn Muslimah testified that he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ make that judgment.
25.5 [Machine] Urwa ibn al-Zubayr, from Muhammad ibn Muslimah
[Machine] "Al-Mughira ibn Shu'ba said, 'I witnessed the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , passing a ruling regarding the compensation for the death of a male or female slave at the beginning of the day.' He said, 'Bring someone who can testify with you.' So Muhammad ibn Muslima came to him."
[Machine] The grandmother came to Abu Bakr to ask for her inheritance from her son or daughter. Abu Bakr said to her, "I do not find anything for you in the Book of Allah, and I have not heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ruling in your favor. I will ask the people tonight." When he had prayed Dhuhr prayer, he approached the people and said, "Indeed, the grandmother has come to me asking for her inheritance from her son or daughter, and I have not found anything for her in the Book, nor have I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ruling in her favor. Has anyone among you heard anything from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ regarding this matter?" Al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah stood up and said, "I bear witness that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ruled in her favor with the sixth." Abu Bakr gave her the sixth. Then he asked, "Has anyone of you heard this from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?" Muhammad ibn Muslimah stood up and said, "I bear witness that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ruled in her favor with the sixth." Abu Bakr gave her the sixth. When the caliphate of 'Umar came, the grandmother who opposed her came to him. 'Umar said to her, "The ruling was in your favor. However, when the two of you gather, the sixth is to be divided between you, and whichever of you is empty-handed, it is for her."
“A grandmother came to Abu Bakr Siddiq and asked him for her inheritance. Abu Bakr said to her: ‘You have nothing according to the Book of Allah, and I don’t know of anything for you according to the Book of Allah, and I don’t know of anything for you according to the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Go back until I ask the people.’ So he asked the people and Al-Mughirah bin Shu’bah said: ‘I was present with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he gave her (the grandmother) one sixth.’ Abu Bakr said: ‘Is there anyone else with you (who will corroborate what you say)?’ Muhammad bin Maslamah Al-Ansari stood up and said something like what Mughirah bin Shu’bah had said. So Abu Bakr applied it in her case.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 2724)

[Machine] I have a right to what he left behind, so what is my right? Abu Bakr replied, "I do not know of anything in the Book of Allah that says anything about your right. I will ask, so wait." After performing the Dhuhr prayer, he asked, "Who heard anything from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ regarding the shares?" Al-Mughira bin Shu'ba said, "I heard him say, 'Give one-sixth.'" Abu Bakr asked, "Did anyone else know this?" Muhammad bin Muslima stood up and said, "He spoke the truth, exactly as he said." The woman then came and he gave her one-sixth. After Abu Bakr passed away, a woman came to Umar with the same question. Umar replied to her exactly as Abu Bakr did. Then he asked, and they said, "Al-Mughira said this and that," and Muhammad bin Muslima testified with him. So Umar gave her one-sixth and said, "When both of you come together, it belongs to both of you. And whichever one of you leaves it behind, it belongs to her."

[Machine] I asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what should I do if the worshippers differ?" He said, "Take your sword and go to a deserted place and strike it, then return to your house until death or a mistaken hand reaches you."

[Machine] When the Prophet ﷺ judged the Banu Quraiza, the Aws found themselves involved. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent messengers to every household of the Aws with prisoners of war, and he also sent messengers to the Banu Haritha with prisoners of war.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say when he stood up to pray, "Allahu Akbar, I have directed my face towards the One who created the heavens and the earth, purely submitting to Him, and I am not of those who associate partners with Allah. Indeed, my prayer, my sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for Allah, the Lord of the worlds, who has no partner. And with that I have been commanded, and I am the first of the Muslims. O Allah, You are the King, there is no deity but You. Glory be to You, and praise be to You." Then he recited, and when he bowed he said, "O Allah, to You I have bowed, and in You I have believed, and to You I have submitted. You are my Lord, I have bowed for You, and my hearing, my sight, my flesh and my blood have bowed for Allah, the Lord of the worlds." Then he raised his head and said, "Allah hears the one who praises Him. Our Lord, to You is the praise, filling the heavens and the earth and whatever You will of anything after that." And when he prostrated he said, "O Allah, to You I have prostrated, and in You I have believed, and to You I have submitted. You are my Lord, I have prostrated for You, and my face has prostrated to the One who created it, shaped it, and opened its hearing and sight. Blessed is Allah, the best of creators."

[Machine] "That the Prophet ﷺ used to say in his prostration, 'O Allah, to You I have prostrated and in You I have believed, and to You I have submitted. You are my Lord, my face has prostrated to the One who created it and formed it, and opened its hearing and sight. Blessed is Allah, the Best of creators.' And when he bowed, he said, 'O Allah, for You I have bowed, and in You I have believed, and to You I have submitted. Upon You I have relied, You are my Lord. My hearing, sight, blood, brain, bones, and nerves have humbled themselves for Allah, the Lord of all the worlds.' Then he raised his head from the bowing position and said, 'Allah has heard the one who praised Him, our Lord, to You belongs all praise, filling the heavens, filling the earth, and filling whatever You will after.'"

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Muhammad ibn Muslimah, there will be trials, division, and disagreements. When that happens, break your sword, break your spear, cut your bowstring, and stay in your house." So, I followed the command of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and turned around. I saw the sword hanging on the pillar of the tent, so I took it and found it to be a wooden sword. I said, "I have done what the Prophet ﷺ commanded me, and I have taken this as something to intimidate people."

[Machine] To the messenger of Allah ﷺ , surely there will be division, trials, and disputes. So strike with your sword the neck of Uthman, and stay in your house until a sinful hand reaches you or Allah heals you.

Seek out the moments of joy from God's Mercy
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Your Lord has in the days of your lifetime nafaḥāt (fragrances, breezes, moments of joy), so expose yourselves to them so that you may be touched by one of the ˹moment of joy˺ and thus never feel distress/misery/unhappiness thereafter."

[Machine] Muhammad ibn Muslimah, I arrived from a journey and the Prophet ﷺ took my hand, and he did not let go of my hand until I released his hand.

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ ate meat as his last meal, then performed prayer without performing ablution.
[Machine] I passed by when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was on As-Safa and he placed his cheek against the cheek of a man. I went and did not stay, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called me and said: 'O Muhammad bin Muslimah, why did you not greet?'" So Muhammad bin Muslimah said: "O Messenger of Allah, I saw you doing something with this man that you have not done with anyone else, so I disliked interrupting you." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "'Jibril would not cease enjoining me about the neighbor to the extent that I thought he would make him an heir to me.'"

[Machine] Your cousin's son, that is, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , handed me a sword and said, "Fight with it as the enemy is fought with it. When you see people killing each other, intentionally strike someone with it and then stay in your house until death or a corrupt hand reaches you." He said, "Leave it."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, "Verily, there will be trials after me. If you encounter any of them, take your sword and strike with it the insolent one, and adhere to the truth until death comes to you at the hand of an unjust person or a decisive death."
[Machine] "He came to his sheep and caught two rabbits, then he slaughtered them with a knife. He brought them to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ hanging them, and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I skinned them with a knife.' He replied, 'Eat both of them.'"
[Machine] He brought two rabbits to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he hung them in his hand. He said, "O Messenger of Allah, I came with sheep but I found these two rabbits and I did not find a knife to slaughter them with, so I slaughtered them with a branch. Can I eat them?" He said, "Yes."
[Machine] "He caught two rabbits and slaughtered them with a knife. Then he asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ who instructed him to eat them."
“I slaughtered two rabbits with a sharp-edges stone and brought them to the Prophet ﷺ, and he told me to eat them.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3175)
25.17 [Machine] Muhammad ibn Safwan: "It has been said Safwan ibn Muhammad, and the correct is Muhammad ibn Safwan.
[Machine] I slaughtered two rabbits with a Marwa (a type of arrow), then I went to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned that to him. I said, "I will eat them." He said, "Yes."
[Machine] The messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to us on the day of Ashura and said, "Are there any among you who have eaten today?" We said, "Some of us have eaten and some of us have not." He said, "Whoever has not eaten, let him complete his fast, and whoever has eaten something, let him complete the rest of his day." Then he sent a message to the people of Al-Arood, ordering them to do the same.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said on the day of Ashura, "Whoever among you has consumed anything, let him refrain from eating the rest of the day, and whoever hasn't, let him fast." He also sent a message to the people of Arudh and commanded them to fast as well.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ commanded his callers on the day of Ashura, "Whoever is fasting should continue their fast, and whoever has eaten and drank should complete their fast."
25.18 [Machine] Muhammad bin Sayfi Al-Ansari
[Machine] I used to herd sheep for my family in the valley of Uhud. I accidentally injured two of them, so I took a rock and slaughtered them quickly and skillfully. Then, I went to the Prophet ﷺ and informed him about it. He said, "Eat them."
[Machine] I heard Muhammad ibn Hatib saying, "I was born in Abyssinia."
[Machine] When my mother arrived with me from the land of Abyssinia after Hatib died, the Prophet ﷺ came. One of my hands was burned by fire, so my mother said, "O Messenger of Allah, this is Muhammad ibn Hatib and he has been burned by this fire." Muhammad ibn Hatib said, "I would not lie to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . I do not know whether he blew on my head or wiped it, but he prayed for blessings upon me and my offspring."
[Machine] Something from my hand was injured, so my mother took me to the Prophet ﷺ and he said something about it "Remove the pain, O Lord of the people," and I think he said, "Heal, and you are the healer."
[Machine] "The decree has fallen upon me, so I was burned. I rushed with me to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he would blow on it and say, 'Remove the harm, O Lord of the people', and I think he said, 'And you are the Healer.'"
[Machine] "I went to the marketplace and I am a little boy. My hand got burnt and my mother noticed, so she brought me to a man with a blowpipe. She said, 'O Muhammad, the hand of Muhammad got burnt.' So the Prophet ﷺ spat on it."
[Machine] I approached my mother's grave, so I settled down on it while I was still a young boy. My mother brought me to the Prophet ﷺ , so he supplicated for me and said, "Go away, pain of people, and be the one who cures, as there is no healer except You." I did not memorize the words, so I asked my mother about them, and she informed me during the time of Uthman.
[Machine] I took a portion that we had, and my hand got burnt. My mother then hurried me to a man in the cemetery and said to him, "O Messenger of Allah!" He replied, "Here I am, at your service." Then she asked him about something, and he started blowing and speaking in words that I did not understand. After that, I asked my mother what he was saying. She said, "He was saying, 'Remove the harm, O Lord of mankind, and cure, as you are the only cure.'"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, I have seen a land with palm trees, so go forth." Then, Hatib and Ja'far came out in the sea before the Najashi, and I was born in the ship.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The distinction between Halal (lawful) and Haram (prohibited) is the sound and the beating of the drum."

[Machine] 'Umar looked at the son of Abdul Hamid, whose name was Muhammad, and a man was speaking to him, saying, "May Allah do such and such to you, O Muhammad," and began to insult him. So 'Umar called him and said, "O son of Zayd, I do not see Muhammad ﷺ being insulted because of you. By Allah, you will never be called Muhammad as long as I am alive." So he named him Abdul Rahman. Then he sent to the Banu Talha, who were seven men, and their leader and elder was Muhammad bin Talha, to change their names. Muhammad said, "I remind you by Allah, O Commander of the Faithful, for by Allah, Muhammad ﷺ named me Muhammad." So he said, "Stand up, there is no way to change something named by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."

[Machine] On the authority of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he said, "There are three signs that when you see them, then disaster is near: the decay of the flourishing, the rebuilding of the ruins, and that war becomes a means of livelihood. And that a person exercises his trustworthiness as a camel exercises with a tree."
[Machine] About his father, who was one of the Companions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ , it is narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to them in the mosque of Bani Zufar and sat on the rock that was in the mosque. With him were Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, Mu'adh ibn Jabal, and some of his companions. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded a reciter to read, and he recited until he reached this verse, "So how [will it be] when We bring from every nation a witness and we bring you, [O Muhammad], against these [people] as a witness?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ wept until his beard became wet, and he said, "Oh Lord, I bear witness against those whom I have seen, so how about those whom I have not seen?"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived in Medina and I, who was two years old, was brought to him. He wiped his hand over my head and said, "Name him after me and do not use my nickname." He performed the Farewell Pilgrimage with me while I was ten years old. He said, "Indeed, Muhammad has aged until his hair has turned gray, but there is no gray hair in the place where the hand of the Prophet ﷺ has touched."
