The Prophet ﷺ ordered a man from the tribe of Bani Aslam to announce amongst the people that whoever had eaten should fast the rest of the day, and whoever had not eaten should continue his fast, as that day was the day of 'Ashura' .

أَمَرَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ رَجُلاً مِنْ أَسْلَمَ أَنْ أَذِّنْ فِي النَّاسِ أَنَّ مَنْ كَانَ أَكَلَ فَلْيَصُمْ بَقِيَّةَ يَوْمِهِ وَمَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ أَكَلَ فَلْيَصُمْ فَإِنَّ الْيَوْمَ يَوْمُ عَاشُورَاءَ

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to a man from the tribe of Al-Aslam, "Proclaim among your people (or the people) on the day of 'Ashura' (tenth of Muharram), 'Whosoever has eaten anything should fast for the rest of the day; and whoever has not eaten anything, should complete his fast.' "

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ لِرَجُلٍ مِنْ أَسْلَمَ أَذِّنْ فِي قَوْمِكَ أَوْ فِي النَّاسِ يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ أَنَّ مَنْ أَكَلَ فَلْيُتِمَّ بَقِيَّةَ يَوْمِهِ وَمَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ أَكَلَ فَلْيَصُمْ

"Salamah told us that the Messenger of Allah said to a man: 'Announce the day of Ashura. Whoever has eaten let him not eat for the rest of the day, and whoever has not eaten, let him fast."'

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ لِرَجُلٍ أَذِّنْ يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ مَنْ كَانَ أَكَلَ فَلْيُتِمَّ بَقِيَّةَ يَوْمِهِ وَمَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ أَكَلَ فَلْيَصُمْ

“Has anyone among you eaten today?” We said: “Some of us have eaten and some of us have not.” He said: “Complete the rest of your day (i.e., do not eat for the rest of the day), whoever has eaten and whoever has not eaten. And send word to the people of the suburbs to complete the rest of their day.” He was referring to the people of the suburbs around Al-Madinah.

لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ مِنْكُمْ أَحَدٌ طَعِمَ الْيَوْمَ؟ قُلْنَا مِنَّا طَعِمَ وَمِنَّا مَنْ لَمْ يَطْعَمْ قَالَ فَأَتِمُّوا بَقِيَّةَ يَوْمِكُمْ مَنْ كَانَ طَعِمَ وَمَنْ لَمْ يَطْعَمْ فَأَرْسِلُوا إِلَى أَهْلِ الْعَرُوضِ فَلْيُتِمُّوا بَقِيَّةَ يَوْمِهِمْ قَالَ يَعْنِي أَهْلَ الْعَرُوضِ حَوْلَ الْمَدِينَةِ

[AI] "The Prophet ﷺ ordered a man who embraced Islam to give the call to prayer among the people on the day of Ashura. Whoever was fasting, let him complete his fast, and whoever had eaten, let him not eat anything and complete his fast."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أَمَرَ رَجُلًا مِنْ أَسْلَمَ أَنْ يُؤَذِّنَ فِي النَّاسِ يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ مَنْ كَانَ صَائِمًا فَلْيُتِمَّ صَوْمَهُ وَمَنْ كَانَ أَكَلَ فَلَا يَأْكُلْ شَيْئًا وَلِيُتِمَّ صَوْمَهُ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ لِرَجُلٍ مِنْ أَسْلَمَ أَذِّنْ فِي قَوْمِكَ أَوْ فِي النَّاسِ يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ مَنْ أَكَلَ فَلْيَصُمْ بَقِيَّةَ يَوْمِهِ وَمَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ أَكَلَ فَلْيَصُمْ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent to the villages of the Ansar and said, "Whoever among you is fasting, let him complete his fast, and whoever has eaten, let him observe the remaining part of his day's fast."

بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي قُرَى الْأَنْصَارِ فَقَالَ مَنْ كَانَ مِنْكُمْ صَائِمًا فَلْيُتِمَّ صَوْمَهُ وَمَنْ كَانَ أَكَلَ فَلْيَصُمْ بَقِيَّةَ عَشِيَّةَ يَوْمِهِ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to us on the day of Ashura and said, "Is there anyone among you who has eaten today?" We said, "Some of us have eaten and some have not." He said, "Whoever has not eaten, let him fast, and whoever has eaten, let him complete the rest of his day. And let the people of the array prepare food and let them complete the rest of their day."

خَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ فَقَالَ «هَلْ مِنْكُمْ أَحَدٌ طَعِمَ الْيَوْمَ؟ » قَالُوا مِنَّا مَنْ طَعِمَ وَمِنَّا مَنْ لَمْ يَطْعَمْ فَقَالَ «مَنْ كَانَ لَمْ يَطْعَمْ مِنْكُمْ فَلْيَصُمْ وَمَنْ طَعِمَ فَلْيُتِمَّ بَقِيَّةَ يَوْمِهِ وَآذِنُوا أَهْلَ الْعَرُوضِ فَلْيُتِمُّوا بَقِيَّةَ يَوْمِهِمْ»

[AI] "That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said on the day of Ashura, 'O people, whoever among you wishes to fast this day may do so, and whoever does not wish to fast, let him complete his fast. And whoever eats, let him continue his fast for the rest of the day.'"

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ «يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ مَنْ كَانَ مِنْكُمْ يُرِيدُ أَنْ يَصُومَ هَذَا الْيَوْمَ فَلْيَصُمْهُ وَمَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ أَكَلَ فَلْيُتِمَّ صَوْمَهُ وَمَنْ أَكَلَ فَلْيَصُمْ بَقِيَّةَ يَوْمِهِ»

[AI] The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said on the day of Ashuraa: "O people, whoever of you eats should not eat anything for the rest of the day, and whoever intends to fast should observe the fast."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ «أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ مَنْ كَانَ مِنْكُمْ أَكَلَ فَلَا يَأْكُلْ بَقِيَّةَ يَوْمِهِ وَمَنْ نَوَى مِنْكُمُ الصَّوْمَ فَلْيَصُمْهُ»

"أَذِّنْ في النَّاسِ: أَنَّ مَنْ كان أكَلَ فليَصُمْ بقيَّةَ يوْمِه، ومَنْ لم يكنْ أَكَلَ فليَصُمْ، فإِنَّ اليَوْمَ يومُ عاشُوراءَ".

"أفيكُمْ مِن طَعِمَ اليَوْمِ؟ مَنْ كَانَ لَمْ يَطعَمْ فَليُتِمَّ صَوْمَه، ومن كان طَعِمَ شَيئًا، فَليُتِمَّ بَقيَّةَ يَوْمِه - يعني يوم عاشُوراءَ -".

طب عن محمد بن صيفى الأنصاري.

"أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ مَن كَانَ أَكَلَ مِنْكُمْ فَلَا يَأكُلْ بَقِيَّةَ يَوْمِهِ، وَمَنْ نَوَى مِنْكُمْ الصَّوْمَ فَليَصُمْه" قَالهَ يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ ".

"مَنْ أَكَلَ مِنْكُمْ يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ فلا بَقيَّةَ يَوْمِه، وَمَنْ لَمْ يَأكُلْ فَليُتِمَّ صَوْمَه".

"هَلْ مِنْكُمْ أَحَدٌ طَعِمَ الْيَوْمَ؟ مَنْ كَانَ لَمْ يَطعَمْ مِنكمْ فَليَصُمْ، وَمَنْ طَعِمَ فَليُتِمَّ بَقِيَةَ يَوْمِهِ، وَإِذَا نَوَى أَهْلُ العَروضِ فَليُتِمُّوا بَقِيَّةَ يَوْمِهِمْ -يَعْنِي- يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ".

"عن أبى مأدبة قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَلِيّا يَقُولُ يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ: يَأَيُّهَا النَّاسُ! مَنْ أَكَلَ مِنْكُم فَلْيَصُمْ بَقِيَّةَ يَوْمِهِ، وَمَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ أَكَلَ فَلْيُتِمَّ صَوْمَهُ".
