[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Muhammad ibn Muslimah, there will be trials, division, and disagreements. When that happens, break your sword, break your spear, cut your bowstring, and stay in your house." So, I followed the command of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and turned around. I saw the sword hanging on the pillar of the tent, so I took it and found it to be a wooden sword. I said, "I have done what the Prophet ﷺ commanded me, and I have taken this as something to intimidate people."  

الطبراني:١٦٦٢٨ – حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ وَأَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْكَشِّيُّ قَالَا ثنا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ الْمِنْهَالِ ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ قَالَ مَرَرْنَا بِالرَّبَذَةِ وَإِذَا فُسْطَاطٌ قُلْتُ لِمَنْ هَذَا؟ قِيلَ لِمُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مَسْلَمَةَ فَدَخَلْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ

إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «يَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ إِنَّهَا سَتَكُونُ فِتْنَةٌ وَفُرْقَةٌ وَاخْتِلَافٌ فَإِذَا كَانَ ذَلِكَ فَاكْسِرْ سَيْفَكَ وَاكْسِرْ نَبْلَكَ وَاقْطَعْ وَاتْرُكْ وَاجْلِسْ فِي بَيْتِكَ» فَقَدْ وَقَعَتِ الْفِتْنَةُ وَفَعَلْتُ الَّذِي أَمَرَنِي بِهِ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَالْتَفَتُّ فَإِذَا السَّيْفُ مُعَلَّقٌ بِعَمُودِ الْفُسْطَاطِ فَانْتَصَلْتُهُ فَإِذَا سَيْفًا مِنْ خَشَبٍ قَالَ قَدْ فَعَلْتُ مَا أَمَرَنِي بِهِ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَاتَّخَذْتُ هَذَا أَهِيبُ بِهِ النَّاسَ

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "There will be tribulation, division, and disagreement. When that happens, take your sword and strike with it firmly, break your spear, and cut your bow strings, then stay in your home. This has already been said by the Prophet ﷺ. Yazid said another time, 'Strike with it until you sever it, then stay in your home until a harmed hand or the mercy of Allah comes to you.' Indeed, I have done what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded me to do." Then, a sword that was hanging by a pillar fell down, it was made of wood. He said, "I have done what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded me to do," and he took it, saying, "With this, I will frighten people."  

أحمد:١٦٠٢٩ – حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زَيْدٍ عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ قَالَ مَرَرْتُ بِالرَّبَذَةِ فَإِذَا فُسْطَاطٌ فَقُلْتُ لِمَنْ هَذَا؟ فَقِيلَ لِمُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مَسْلَمَةَ فَاسْتَأْذَنْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَدَخَلْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَقُلْتُ رَحِمَكَ اللهُ إِنَّكَ مِنْ هَذَا الْأَمْرِ بِمَكَانٍ فَلَوْ خَرَجْتَ إِلَى النَّاسِ فَأَمَرْتَ وَنَهَيْتَ فَقَالَ

إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِنَّهُ سَتَكُونُ فِتْنَةٌ وَفُرْقَةٌ وَاخْتِلَافٌ فَإِذَا كَانَ ذَلِكَ فَأْتِ بِسَيْفِكَ أُحُدًا فَاضْرِبْ بِهِ عُرْضَهُ وَاكْسِرْ نَبْلَكَ وَاقْطَعْ وَتَرَكَ وَاجْلِسْ فِي بَيْتِكَ فَقَدْ كَانَ ذَلِكَ وَقَالَ يَزِيدُ مَرَّةً فَاضْرِبْ بِهِ حَتَّى تَقْطَعَهُ ثُمَّ اجْلِسْ فِي بَيْتِكَ حَتَّى تَأْتِيَكَ يَدٌ خَاطِئَةٌ أَوْ يُعَافِيَكَ اللهُ ﷻ فَقَدْ كَانَ مَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَفَعَلْتُ مَا أَمَرَنِي بِهِ ثُمَّ اسْتَنْزَلَ سَيْفًا كَانَ مُعَلَّقًا بِعَمُودِ الْفُسْطَاطِ فَاخْتَرَطَهُ فَإِذَا سَيْفٌ مِنْ خَشَبٍ فَقَالَ قَدْ فَعَلْتُ مَا أَمَرَنِي بِهِ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺوَاتَّخَذْتُ هَذَا أُرْهِبُ بِهِ النَّاسَ
