25. Chapter of Mīm (Male) (2/33)
[Machine] He attended the Farewell Pilgrimage with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he was ten years old and he had a curly hair.
[Machine] Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Jash bin Riyab bin Ya'mar bin Sabirah bin Marrat bin Kathir bin Ghanm bin Doudan bin Asad bin Khuzayma bin Mudrika bin Ilyas bin Mudar bin Nizar al-Halif bin Umayyah. His grandmother, Umm Abiha, is Ummaymah bint Abdul Muttalib, the aunt of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . His father was martyred on the Day of Uhud, and his aunt is Zainab bint Jahsh, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ .
[Machine] I was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when we passed by Ma'mar, who was sitting in front of his house in the market with his thighs uncovered. The Prophet ﷺ said, "O Ma'mar, cover your thighs, as the thighs are a part that should be covered."
[Machine] The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ passed by and I was with him on Ma'mar. His thighs were uncovered, so he said, "O Ma'mar, cover your thighs, for the thigh is nakedness."
[Machine] We went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and a man from the Banu 'Adiy came by us with his thigh exposed. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Cover your thigh, O Ma'mar, for it is from the 'awrah (that which should be covered)."
[Machine] I was with the Prophet ﷺ in the marketplace when Ma'mar passed by with his thigh uncovered. The Prophet ﷺ told him, "Cover your thigh, O Ma'mar, for it is from the 'awrah."
[Machine] He heard the Messenger of Allah (saw) say, "If a man is killed in the cause of Allah, then brought back to life, then killed again in the cause of Allah, he will not enter Paradise until his debts are settled and there is no gold or silver left, only good deeds and sins."
[Machine] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, if I am killed in the path of Allah?" He replied, "Paradise." When the man left, he said, "Except for debt, Jibril ﷺ informed me beforehand."
[Machine] I heard Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Jahsh, who had companions, saying that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was approached by a man who asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what do you think if I fight in the cause of Allah until I am killed?" The Prophet replied, "Paradise." When the man left, the Prophet said, "Look at him." And when he was told about the man's remark, he said, "Except for the debt upon him."
[Machine] Narrated by the Prophet ﷺ , he said that Gabriel ﷺ said to me, "If a servant is killed in the cause of Allah and he has a debt, he will not enter Jannah until his debt is settled."
[Machine] We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the courtyard of the mosque when he raised his head to the sky and said, "Glory be to Allah! What severe torment has been sent down!" We remained in the rest of our day and night. When morning came, I went to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, what severe torment has been sent down?" He said, "If a man is killed in the cause of Allah, then brought back to life, then killed again and brought back to life, he would not enter Paradise, while carrying a debt."
25.23 [Machine] Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Jahsh ibn Riyaab Al-Asadi
[Machine] That Zainab bint Jash used to wash the head of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with a mixture of saffron. Abdullah bin Umar said, "I have seen that mixture."
25.24 [Machine] Muhammad ibn Abi Amira al-Muzani
[Machine] Narrated Muhammad ibn Abi 'Amirah, who was one of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ , said, "If a person was dragged on his face from the day he was born until the day he dies in obedience to Allah, that would still be considered insignificant on the Day of Judgment. And if it were to increase as the rewards and blessings increase, it would still be considered insignificant."
[Machine] About Urwa:'Regarding the identification of those who witnessed the event of Al-Aqaba from the Ansar, then from the Aws from the Banu Abd al-Ashhal, Abu al-Haytham ibn al-Tayhan was among them. He was a leader and had participated in the Battle of Badr. He was the first person to pledge allegiance to Islam during the event of Al-Aqaba.'
[Machine] About Ibn Shihab: "Regarding the naming of the person who witnessed Al-Aqaba from the Ansar, it was Abu al-Haytham ibn al-Tayhan, and he was a chief."
[Machine] Abu Al-Haytham ibn Al-Tayhan passed away in the year twenty, and his name was Malik.
[Machine] And the first person to pledge allegiance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the Day of Aqaba was Abu Al-Haytham ibn At-Taihan. He said, "O Messenger of Allah, between us and the people are alliances and treaties. Perhaps we will break them and then return to your people after severing the alliances and fighting against the people for your sake." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled at his words and said, "Bloodshed! Bloodshed!" When Abu Al-Haytham was satisfied with what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, he went back to his people and said, "O people, this is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . I bear witness that he is truthful, and today he is in the sanctuary of Allah and under his protection, between his people and his tribe. So know that if you expel him, the Arabs will attack you as one. But if you find it pleasing to sacrifice yourselves in the cause of Allah and give up your wealth and children, then invite him to your land, for he is truly the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . And if you fear betrayal, then from now on, Abdullah (his nickname) said, we have cleared ourselves from Allah and His Messenger of what we have given to him. And indeed, we have given you what you asked of us, O Messenger of Allah. So resolve the matter between us, O Abu Al-Haytham, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . Let us all pledge allegiance to him." Abu Al-Haytham said, "I am the first to pledge allegiance, then all of you follow." Then Satan shouted from the top of the mountain and said, "O Quraish people! The Khazraj and the Aws are forming alliances with Muhammad to fight against you." Hearing this, they became frightened, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Don't be frightened by this voice. It is only the enemy of Allah, Iblis, and no one from those whom you fear can hear it." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up and shouted at Satan, saying, "O son of Az-Zabb, this is your action. I will deal with you shortly."
[Machine] I missed dinner one night, so I couldn't fall asleep. I decided to go to the mosque to pray the missed prayers. I leaned against one side of it, and Umar entered and saw me. He asked, "Who is this?" I replied, "Abu Bakr." He wondered why I was out at that hour, and I said it was due to hunger. He said, "I am also here because of the same reason that brought you out." Shortly after, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered and saw both of us. Umar pointed out who we were, and the Prophet asked why we were out at that hour. We informed him of what happened, and he said, "The one who caused you to come out is the one who caused me to come out. Come with us to the house of the Wakim family." We reached the door and sought permission to enter. The lady asked, "Where is so-and-so?" She was told that he went to bring a handler to carry something on his back. He arrived and hung it on a peg of a date-palm trunk. Then he approached us and greeted us, saying that people don't visit anyone better than visiting him that night. He brought some dried dates, and we ate from them and selected the ripest from the moon. Then he took a knife and moved around among the sheep. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ told him to avoid the udder or the fat tail. He slaughtered a sheep for us and flayed it, then cooked it in a pot. He instructed the lady, and she kneaded and baked the dough. Then he brought a large tray with meat, and we ate. After that, he went to the handler and found the wind had blown out the flame. He heated water and gave us to drink. The Prophet ﷺ said, "All praise is for Allah. We came out for no reason but hunger, and we did not return until we reached this. This is part of the blessings that we will be asked about on the Day of Resurrection."

[Machine] I missed dinner one night, so I started moving around so that sleep wouldn't come to me. I said to myself, "If I go out to the mosque and pray whatever I am able, I will do so." So, I did that and then leaned against one of its walls. Umar entered and when he saw me, he criticized me and said, "Who is this?" I said, "Abu Bakr." He asked, "What brought you out at this hour?" I replied, "Hunger." He said, "I was not brought out except by the One who brought you out." It wasn't long before the Prophet ﷺ entered and when he saw us, he criticized Umar and said, "Who are these two?" Umar spoke up and said, "This is Abu Bakr and this is Umar." The Prophet asked, "What brought the two of you out at this hour?" We told him the reason and he said, "The One who brought you out is the One who brought me out. So, come with us to the house of Al-Waqimiy." We arrived at the door and sought permission to enter. The woman of the house asked, "Where is so-and-so?" She was told, "He went to fetch us some dried dates from the family of Haritha." Then, she opened the door and we entered. We hadn't been there long before a man came carrying a piece of meat on his back, which he hung in a container made of palm stalks. He then came towards us and said, "Welcome, what a wonderful visit people have paid me tonight." He then brought some meat and we began selecting pieces under the moonlight and eating. The Prophet took out a knife and went among the sheep. He said to the man, "Beware of the udders." Or he said, "Beware of the cut." He then slaughtered a sheep for us, skinned it, and cut it into pieces in a cooking pot. He instructed the woman, who kneaded some dough and baked it. Then, he brought us a dish of soup and meat, and we ate. Afterward, he went to the container where the meat was hanging, and it was flapping in the wind. He blew on it and then gave us water to drink. The Prophet said, "Praise be to Allah, we left because of hunger and weren't expelled by anything else. Then, we didn't return until we attained this. This is one of the blessings that you will be asked about on the Day of Resurrection."

[Machine] He heard Umar bin Al-Khattab say that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out at noon and found Abu Bakr in the mosque, so he asked him, "What brought you out at this hour?" Abu Bakr replied, "What brought you out, O Messenger of Allah?" Then Umar bin Al-Khattab came and asked, "What brought you out?" Abu Bakr replied, "What brought both of you out?" Umar sat down and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ started talking to them. Then he said, "There is strength in both of you that can go to this palm tree and bring back food, drink, and dates." They both said, "Yes." He said, "Come with us to the house of Abu Al-Haytham bin Tayhan Al-Ansari." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went ahead of us, greeted and sought permission three times, and Umm Al-Haytham listened to his greetings from behind the door, hoping that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would increase his greetings for her. When he wanted to leave, Umm Al-Haytham hurried after them and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I heard your greetings, but I wanted you to increase your greetings for us." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to her kindly, then he said, "Where is Abu Al-Haytham?" She said, "O Messenger of Allah, he is nearby. He went to fetch water for us. Come in, for the time is near, if Allah wills." So she spread a sheet for them under the tree, and Abu Al-Haytham came rejoicing to meet them. His eyes were comforted by seeing them. He climbed a palm tree and cut off some bunches for them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "Count (the bunches), O Abu Al-Haytham." He said, "O Messenger of Allah, you are eating from its fruit and its dates. Then he brought them water and they all drank. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "This is part of the blessings that you asked about." Abu Al-Haytham got up to slaughter a sheep for them, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "Beware of debt." Umm Al-Haytham started kneading dough and baking for them, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ placed his head, as did Abu Bakr and Umar, near the dish, so they were awakened and found food laid out before them. They ate until they were satisfied, and then Abu Al-Haytham brought the remaining bunches, and they ate from its dates and its fruit. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ greeted them and prayed for them with goodness.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out at a time when he did not usually go out. Abu Bakr then also went out, and he said to him, "What made you go out, Abu Bakr?" Abu Bakr replied, "Hunger made me go out." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Hunger made me go out as well." Then Umar went out, and the Prophet ﷺ asked him, "What made you go out, Umar?" Umar replied, "Hunger made me go out, by Him who sent you with the truth." Then the Prophet ﷺ went to a group of his companions and said to them, "Go with us to the house of Abu Haytham ibn Tayhan." So they went, and when they reached the house, his wife said, "Indeed, Abu Haytham has gone to fetch water for us. Come inside." She opened the door for them, and they sat down. Then Abu Haytham came, and his wife said to him, "Do you know who is here?" He replied, "No." She said, "The Messenger of Allah and his companions are here." So he entered and tied his horse to a palm tree. Then he came to them, greeted them, welcomed them, and brought a bowl filled with dates in water and salt. He placed it in front of them and Abu Haytham desired to give them some of the livestock he had on the side of the house, to slaughter a sheep for them. But the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not." So he took a sheep, slaughtered it, skinned it, and cut its parts. He cooked it with water and salt, and then he came to his wife and asked her, "Do you have anything?" She said, "Yes, we have some barley which we had been keeping. We ground it, kneaded it, and baked it." Abu Haytham broke the bread and distributed it to them, along with the cooked meat. Then he went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his companions, and they ate. The Prophet ﷺ said to Abu Haytham, "Do you have any servant?" He replied, "No, by Him who sent you with the truth, we do not have a servant." The Prophet ﷺ said, "When you receive news that our captives have arrived, come and serve us." So when the captives arrived, Abu Haytham came with two young boys or young men, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "O Abu Haytham, choose one of them." Abu Haytham said, "O Messenger of Allah, choose for me." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "You may choose one of them." Abu Haytham said, "O Messenger of Allah, make your choice." The Prophet ﷺ said, "The one who seeks advice is safe. O Abu Haytham, take this one." When Abu Haytham left with him, the Prophet ﷺ cautioned him until he disappeared from view. Then the Prophet ﷺ said, "The one who offers consultation is trustworthy, O Abu Haytham, take him." Abu Haytham went to his family, and they rejoiced greatly. They said, "Praise be to Allah who has blessed us with a servant to serve and assist us on our farm." Abu Haytham said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has advised me to do so." His wife said, "We will indeed provide him with the same food we eat and the same clothes we wear, and we will not burden him with any work he cannot bear." Abu Haytham said to the young boy, "You are free for the sake of Allah. If you wish, you may stay with us, and we will provide you with the food we eat and the clothes we wear, and we will not burden you with any work except what you can handle. But if you wish, you may leave and go wherever you want."

Umar said, 'And I found something that you can find.' So let us go to Abu al-Haytham ibn al-Tayhan al-Ansari, who had many horses and servants. They went to him, but could not find him. They found his wife and asked, 'Where is your husband?' She said, 'He went out in the early morning to fetch water from the canal of Banu Fulan. It was not long before he came back with a container, then he came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and accompanied him, holding him by his father and mother, and they went to the shade of his garden. He spread a mat for them, then he went to a palm tree and brought some dates. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Why don't you shake them and bruise them?' He said, 'I wanted you to taste them fresh and juicy.' So they ate and drank from that water. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had finished, he said, 'By the One in Whose hand is my soul, this is a blessing that you will be asked about on the Day of Resurrection. This is the cool shade and the refreshing fruit with the water upon it.' He then told them to set food for him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Do not slaughter what is pregnant.' So he slaughtered a young or old camel for them. Then he came to them and they ate.

He then went and prepared food for them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Do not slaughter a pregnant animal.' So he slaughtered a young goat or a lamb for them. Then he came to them and they ate.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out one day and found Abu Bakr and Umar with him. He asked them, "What has brought you both out of your houses?" They replied, "Hunger." He said, "By the One in whose hand is my soul, I was not brought out except by the same thing that brought you both out. Get up." So they got up with him. Then a man from the Ansar came, and it seemed like he had been with a woman. The Prophet ﷺ asked her, "Where is so-and-so?" She replied, "He went off to get water for us." While he was gone, the man from the Ansar came with some water. When he looked at the Prophet ﷺ and his companions, he said, "Allahu Akbar! No one among the people is more honorable than our guests." The Prophet ﷺ then took a skin bag and cut a piece out of it that contained some dates, fresh dates, and dried dates. He said to the man, "What if you had chosen?" The man replied, "You decide, O Messenger of Allah, according to your own opinion." The Prophet ﷺ took the bag and said to him, "Beware of the wolfberry." Then he slaughtered a sheep for them, and they ate. When they finished, the Prophet ﷺ said to them, "You will surely be asked about this blessing on the Day of Judgment. It was hunger that brought you out of your homes, and yet you did not return until you obtained this blessing."

[Machine] It is called the Well of Goods, into which the Prophet ﷺ spat and blessed. Abu Umayr cut the fruit of his wall and put it in his room. The Ghul would come to his water trough and steal his dates, spoiling them. Abu Umayr complained to the Prophet ﷺ, who said, "That is the Ghul, O Abu Umayr. Listen to her and when you hear her entering, say 'In the name of Allah, the Messenger of Allah has prevented me.' Then the Ghul said, 'O Abu Umayr, let me go and I will not burden you. I will go to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and bring you a proof from Allah that I will not go to your house or steal your dates.' I will guide you to a verse from the Book of Allah that you can recite over your house, so that you do not go to your family or uncover your utensils.' She gave him the proof that pleased him, and said, 'The verse that I guide you to is Ayat al-Kursi.' Then she went and disappeared. Abu Umayr came to the Prophet ﷺ and narrated the story to him, where she had gone. The Prophet ﷺ said, 'She told the truth, but she is a liar.'

They placed a tanned skin on his face, so his feet were revealed, then they placed it on his feet, so his face was revealed. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Place it on his face and place from this tree on his feet." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ lifted his head and saw his companions crying, so he said, "Indeed, a time will come upon people when they leave for the countryside seeking food, clothing, and transportation. They will write to their families, 'Come to us, for you are in a barren land, and the city is better for you if you only knew.' No one will endure its hardships and difficulties except that I will be his intercessor and witness on the Day of Resurrection."

[Machine] About the preference of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ towards the Ansar (the Helpers): I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "The best of the Ansar (the Helpers) are the clan of Banu Najjar, then Banu Abdul Ashhal, then Banu Al-Harith bin Al-Khazraj, then Banu Sa'da, and in every group of the Ansar, there is good." Abu Usaid said, "If I were to say something other than the truth, I would have started with my own clan." And Abu Usaid was from Banu Sa'da.
[Machine] Abu Usaid, a companion of the Prophet ﷺ, mentioned that he heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, "The best houses of the Ansar are the houses of Bani Najjar, then Bani Abdul Ashhal, then the house of Harith bin Khazraj, and then the house of Bani Sa'ida. And in every house of the Ansar, there is good." Abu Usaid said, "If I were a liar, I would have started with my people, Bani Sa'ida." Sa'd bin 'Ubada heard about this and found something within himself about it. He said, "We were four most influential people. Saddle my donkey for me, I will go to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." His nephew Sahal said to him, "You are going to reject the word of Allah and His Messenger ﷺ?!" So Sa'd ordered his donkey to be untied.

The Prophet ﷺ said, "The best of the Ansar's families (homes) are those of Banu An-Najjar and then (those of) Banu ʿAbdul Ash-hal, then (those of) Banu Al-Harith bin Al-Khazraj and then (those of) Banu Saʿida; nevertheless, there is good in all the families (houses) of the Ansar." On this, Saʿd (bin Ubada) said, "I see that the Prophet ﷺ has preferred some people to us." Somebody said (to him), "No, but he has given you superiority to many." (Hadith similar to above with a different chain) (Using translation from Bukhārī 3789)

[Machine] "That people came to the Prophet ﷺ for the digging of the trench and pledged their allegiance to him regarding migration. When he finished, he said, 'O gathering of the Ansar, do not pledge allegiance regarding migration. Indeed, people migrate to you whom Allah has guided and loves the Ansar, and whoever meets Allah while hating the Ansar, Allah will meet him hating him.'"
[Machine] While I was sitting with the Prophet ﷺ, a man from the Ansar came and said, "O Messenger of Allah, will I still be dutiful to my parents after their death?" He replied, "Yes, four qualities: praying for them, seeking forgiveness for them, fulfilling their commitments after their death, and honoring their friends. And maintaining family ties, for there is no mercy for you except through them." The man said, "So, this is what is left for me to do?"

The Prophet ﷺ forbade the mixing of ripe and unripe dates and also the mixing of dates and raisins (for preparing a syrup) but the syrup of each kind of fruit should be prepared separately. ( One may have such drinks as long as it is fresh ) (Using translation from Bukhārī 5602)

[Machine] I heard Abu Usaid Al-Sa'idi and Ibn Abbas giving a fatwa (religious ruling) concerning the dinar. Abu Usaid strongly expressed his opinion, and Ibn Abbas said, "I did not expect anyone to know my close relationship to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and say to me something like this, O Abu Usaid." Abu Usaid said, "I bear witness that I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'The dinar should be exchanged with the dinar, the dirham with the dirham, the measure of wheat with the measure of wheat, the measure of barley with the measure of barley, and the measure of salt with the measure of salt. There should be no advantage in exchange of one for the other.'" Ibn Abbas said, "This is something I used to say based on my opinion, and I had not heard anything about it."
