[Machine] Muawiyah performed Hajj and called a group of Ansar in the Kaaba, then he said, "I swear to Allah, didn't you hear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbid gold?" They said, "Yes, O Allah, we did." He said, "And I bear witness, didn't you hear that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade the rows of leopards?" They said, "Yes, O Allah, we did." He said, "And I bear witness, didn't you hear that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade silk?" They said, "Yes, O Allah, we did." He said, "And I bear witness."  

حَجَّ مُعَاوِيَةُ فَدَعَا نَفَرًا مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ فِي الْكَعْبَةِ فَقَالَ «أَنْشُدُكُمُ اللهَ أَلَمْ تَسْمَعُوا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَى عَنِ الذَّهَبِ؟» قَالُوا اللهُمَّ نَعَمْ قَالَ «وَأَنَا أَشْهَدُ أَلَمْ تَسْمَعُوا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَى عَنْ صُفَفِ النُّمُورِ؟» قَالُوا نَعَمْ قَالَ «وَأَنَا أَشْهَدُ أَلَمْ تَسْمَعُوا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَى عَنِ الْحَرِيرِ؟» قَالُوا اللهُمَّ نَعَمْ قَالَ «وَأَنَا أَشْهَدُ»  

[Machine] When Muawiyah pledged allegiance to Yazid to go on pilgrimage, he passed by the city and addressed the people, saying, "We have pledged allegiance to Yazid, so pledge allegiance as well." Then Hussain bin Ali stood up and said, "By Allah, I am more deserving of it than him, for my father is better than his father, my grandfather is better than his grandfather, and my mother is better than his mother. And I am better than him." Muawiyah responded, "As for what you mentioned about your grandfather being better than his grandfather, you have spoken the truth, as the Prophet ﷺ is better than Abu Sufyan bin Harb. And as for what you mentioned about your mother being better than his mother, you have spoken the truth, as Fatimah bint Rasulullah ﷺ is better than the daughter of Mijdal. And as for what you mentioned about your father being better than his father, your father has offended his father, and Allah has decreed for your father over his father. And as for what you mentioned about yourself being better than him, he is four times older and wiser than you. The best thing that pleases me with him is equal to a thousand of you."  

لَمَّا بَايَعَ مُعَاوِيَةُ لِيَزِيدَ حَجَّ فَمَرَّ بِالْمَدِينَةِ فَخَطَبَ النَّاسَ فَقَالَ إِنَّا قَدْ بَايَعْنَا يَزِيدَ فَبَايِعُوا فَقَامَ الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ؓ فَقَالَ أَنَا وَاللهِ أَحَقُّ بِهَا مِنْهُ فَإِنَّ أَبِي خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَبِيهِ وَجَدِّي خَيْرٌ مِنْ جَدِّهِ وَإِنَّ أُمِّي خَيْرٌ مِنْ أُمِّهِ وَأَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْهُ فَقَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ «أَمَّا مَا ذَكَرْتَ أَنَّ جَدَّكَ خَيْرٌ مِنْ جَدِّهِ فَصَدَقْتَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ بْنِ حَرْبٍ وَأَمَّا مَا ذَكَرْتَ أَنَّ أُمَّكَ خَيْرٌ مِنْ أُمِّهِ فَصَدَقْتَ فَاطِمَةُ بِنْتُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ خَيْرٌ مِنْ بِنْتِ مِجْدَلٍ وَأَمَّا مَا ذَكَرْتَ أَنَّ أَبَاكَ خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَبِيهِ فَقَدْ قَارَعَ أَبُوهُ أَبَاكَ فَقَضَى اللهُ لِأَبِيهِ عَلَى أَبِيكَ وَأَمَّا مَا ذَكَرْتَ أَنَّكَ خَيْرٌ مِنْهُ فَلَهُوَ أَرِبُ مِنْكُ وَأَعْقَلُ مَا يَسُرُّنِي بِهِ مِثْلُكَ أَلْفٌ»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Verily, the enemy does not appear upon a people while they are..." or he said, "I saw them with a man from the tribe of Banu Bakr ibn Wa'il."  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «إِنَّ الْعَدُوَّ لَا يَظْهَرُ عَلَى قَوْمٍ إِذَا هُمْ» أَوْ قَالَ «رَأَيْتُهُمْ مَعَ رَجُلٍ مِنْ بَنِي بَكْرِ بْنِ وَائِلٍ»  

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "The situation will only worsen, people will only become more greedy, and the Hour will only come upon the worst of people."  

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «لَا يَزْدَادُ الْأَمْرُ إِلَّا شِدَّةً وَلَا يَزْدَادُ النَّاسُ إِلَّا شُحًّا وَلَا تَقُومُ السَّاعَةُ إِلَّا عَلَى شِرَارِ النَّاسِ»  

[Machine] I heard Muawiyah, while he was in Makkah Al-Mukarramah, on the day of Ashura, saying, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to fast it and he said, 'Whoever among you did not f ast it, then let him fast it.'"  

سَمِعْتُ مُعَاوِيَةَ وَهُوَ بِمَكَّةَ الْمُكَرَّمَةِ يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ يَقُولُ صَامَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَقَالَ «مَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ صَامَ مِنْكُمْ فَلْيَصُمْهُ»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited wearing gold except in the form of a ring and riding on a tiger.  

«نَهَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَنْ لِبْسِ الذَّهَبِ إِلَّا مُقَطَّعًا وَعَنْ رُكُوبِ النِّمَارِ»  

[Machine] "That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade riding the zebra and wearing gold except in small amounts."  

«أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَى عَنْ رُكُوبِ النِّمَارِ وَعَنْ لِبْسِ الذَّهَبِ إِلَّا مُقَطَّعًا»  

[Machine] "Muawiyah bin Abi Sufyan said: 'The people of Mecca expelled the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so the caliphate should not be among them. And the people of Medina killed Uthman, so the caliphate should never return to them.'"  

مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ «إِنَّ أَهْلَ مَكَّةَ أَخْرَجُوا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَلَا تَكُونُ فِيهِمُ الْخِلَافَةُ وَإِنَّ أَهْلَ الْمَدِينَةِ قَتَلُوا عُثْمَانَ ؓ فَلَا تَعُودُ الْخِلَافَةُ فِيهِمْ أَبَدًا»  

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "My ummah will remain apparent among people until the command of Allah comes."  

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «لَا تَزَالُ أُمَّتِي ظَاهِرِينَ عَلَى النَّاسِ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَ أَمْرُ اللهِ»  

[Machine] I entered upon Muawiya while he was bandaging himself and his wound was between his shoulders, so he said, "What pleases me is that I do not find anything that you see." I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "No fatigue, illness, anxiety, sorrow, harm or distress befalls a Muslim, even a thorn that pricks him, but Allah expiates some of his sins thereby."  

دَخَلْتُ عَلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ وَهُوَ يَتَضَوَّرُ وَقَرْحُهُ بَيْنَ كَتِفَيْهِ فَقَالَ مَا يَسُرُّنِي أَنِّي لَا أَجِدُ مَا تَرَى سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَا مِنْ أَذًى يُصِيبُ الْمُؤْمِنَ فِي جَسَدِهِ إِلَّا كَانَ كَفَّارَةً لِخَطَايَاهُ»  

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "No Muslim is afflicted with harm to his body except that it serves as an expiation for his sins." And this is the severest form of harm.  

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَا مِنْ مُسْلِمٍ يُصِيبُهُ أَذًى فِي جَسَدِهِ إِلَّا كَانَ كَفَّارَةً لِخَطَايَاهُ» وَهَذَا أَشَدُّ الْأَذَى  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever drinks alcohol, flog him; if he repeats it, flog him again; and if he repeats it again, kill him."  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَنْ شَرِبَ الْخَمْرَ فَاضْرِبُوهُ فَإِنْ عَادَ فَاضْرِبُوهُ ثُمَّ إِنْ عَادَ فَاقْتُلُوهُ»  

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Whoever drinks alcohol, then flog him. If he repeats it, then flog him. If he repeats it again, then flog him. And if he repeats it for the fourth time, then strike his neck."  

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَنْ شَرِبَ الْخَمْرَ فَاجْلِدُوهُ فَإِنْ عَادَ فَاجْلِدُوهُ فَإِنْ عَادَ فَاجْلِدُوهُ ثَلَاثًا فَإِنْ عَادَ الرَّابِعَةَ فَاضْرِبُوا عُنُقَهُ»  

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: "Whoever drinks wine, flog him; if he repeats it, flog him; and if he does it again, flog him. If he repeats it for the fourth time, then kill him."  

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَنْ شَرِبَ الْخَمْرَ فَاجْلِدُوهُ فَإِنْ عَادَ فَاجْلِدُوهُ فَإِنْ عَادَ فَاجْلِدُوهُ فَإِنْ عَادَ الرَّابِعَةَ فَاضْرِبُوا عُنُقَهُ»  

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever drinks alcohol, whip him, and if he repeats the offense, whip him, and if he repeats the offense, whip him, and if he repeats the offense, whip him. And if he continues to do so, kill him."  

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «مَنْ شَرِبَ الْخَمْرَ فَاجْلِدُوهُ فَإِنْ عَادَ فَاجْلِدُوهُ فَإِنْ عَادَ فَاجْلِدُوهُ فَإِنْ عَادَ فَاجْلِدُوهُ فَإِنْ رَبَّعَ فَاقْتُلُوهُ»  

" There were some people from(the tribe of) Rabiah with 'Amr bin Al-'As, so a man from(the tribe of) Bakr bin Wa'il said: "Either the Quraish will stop, or Allah will place this matter among the masses of the Arabs other than them.' So 'Amr bin Al-'As said: 'You have lied, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: "The Quraish are the leaders of the people, in the good and the bad, until the Day of Judgement." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2227)  

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «قُرَيْشٌ وُلَاةُ النَّاسِ فِي الْخَيْرِ وَالشَّرِّ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ»  

[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ cursed those who split their sermons (i.e., spoke in rhymes like poetry)."  

«لَعَنَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الَّذِينَ يُشَقِّقُونَ الْخُطَبَ تَشْقِيقَ الشِّعْرِ»  

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Whoever recites these five words and asks Allah for anything, He will grant it to him: there is no god but Allah, Allah is the greatest, there is no god but Allah, alone, without partner. To Him belongs the sovereignty and to Him belongs all praise, and He is able to do all things. There is no god but Allah, and there is neither might nor power except with Allah."  

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ مَنْ دَعَا بِهَؤُلَاءِ الْكَلِمَاتِ الْخَمْسِ لَمْ يَسْأَلِ اللهَ شَيْئًا إِلَّا أَعْطَاهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَاللهُ أَكْبَرُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ  

[Machine] Muawiyah, I have been longing for the caliphate since the Messenger of Allah ﷺ told me, "If it is offered to you, accept it."  

مُعَاوِيَةُ مَا زِلْتُ أَطْمَعُ فِي الْخِلَافَةِ مُنْذُ قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنْ مَلَكَتَ فَأَحْسِنْ»  

[Machine] I prayed with Muawiya, the Commander of the Faithful, and he stood up in the second unit (rak'a) while people were still praising (reciting masha'a Allah) him. Then, he gestured to them with his hand to sit down. After he finished his prayer, he prostrated twice for that (previous gesture) and then he left. He said, "This is how I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ doing."  

«صَلَّيْتُ مَعَ مُعَاوِيَةَ أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فَقَامَ فِي الرَّكْعَةِ الثَّانِيَةِ فَسَبَّحَ بِهِ النَّاسُ فَأَوْمَأَ إِلَيْهِمْ بِيَدِهِ أَنْ قُومُوا فَلَمَّا قَضَى صَلَاتَهُ سَجَدَ لِذَلِكَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ» وَقَالَ «هَكَذَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَعَلَ»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever desires that the sons of Adam resemble him in their actions, Hellfire will be obligated for him."  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَنْ أَحَبَّ أَنْ يَتَمَثَّلَ لَهُ بَنُو آدَمَ قِيَامًا وَجَبَتْ لَهُ النَّارُ»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The best amongst you is the best to his family."  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «خَيْرُكُمْ خَيْرُكُمْ لِأَهْلِهِ»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out with a group of people and he asked, "What brought you together?" They replied, "We remember Allah and His blessings upon us, and how He saved us from ignorance and its darkness." He said, "By Allah, is that what brought you together?" They said, "Yes." He said, "I swear by the One in whose hand is my soul, if you are truthful, indeed Allah Almighty boasts about you to the angels."  

خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى رُفْقَةٍ مُجْتَمِعِينَ فَقَالَ «مَا جَمَعَكُمْ؟» فَقَالُوا نَذْكُرُ اللهَ وَمَا أَنْعَمَ بِهِ عَلَيْنَا وَمَا اسْتَنْقَذَنَا بِهِ مِنَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ وَجَهْلِهَا فَقَالَ «آللَّهِ لِذَاكَ جَمْعُكُمْ؟» قَالُوا نَعَمْ قَالَ «وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ إِنَّ اللهَ تَعَالَى لِيُبَاهِي بِكُمُ الْمَلَائِكَةَ»  

[Machine] Your location until I come to you, so he came out to us while he stumbled. When he prayed Asr, he said, "Shall I inform you about something that the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to do?" We said, "Yes." He said, "Indeed, they used to pray the first prayer with him, then they would sit down and he would come out to them and say, 'What kept you after I left?' They would say, 'Nothing.' He would then say, 'If you were to see towards your Lord, a door from the sky was opened and I see your angels competing with each other in presenting you in front of Allah while you are waiting for the prayer.'"  

مَكَانَكُمْ حَتَّى آتِيَكُمْ فَخَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا وَقَدْ تَرَدَّى فَلَمَّا صَلَّى الْعَصْرَ قَالَ أَلَا أُحَدِّثُكُمْ شَيْئًا فَعَلَهُ أَصْحَابُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ؟ قُلْنَا بَلَى قَالَ فَإِنَّهُمْ صَلُّوا مَعَهُ الْأَوَّلَ ثُمَّ جَلَسُوا فَخَرَجَ عَلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ «مَا بَرَحْتُمْ بَعْدُ؟» قَالُوا لَا فَقَالَ «لَوْ رَأَيْتُمْ إِلَى رَبِّكُمْ فَتَحَ بَابًا مِنَ السَّمَاءِ فَأَرَى مَجْلِسَكُمْ مَلَائِكَتَهُ يُبَاهِي بِكُمْ وَأَنْتُمْ تَرْقُبُونَ الصَّلَاةَ»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ heard saying, "There is no sin except that Allah may forgive it, except for the one who is a polytheist or who kills a believing person intentionally."  

سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَا مِنْ ذَنْبٍ إِلَّا عَسَى اللهُ أَنْ يَغْفِرَهُ إِلَّا مَنْ كَانَ مُشْرِكًا أَوْ قَتَلَ مُؤْمِنًا مُتَعَمِّدًا»  

[Machine] The translation of the given passage is as follows: "On the authority of the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , he said, 'It is hoped that every sin will be forgiven except for a man who dies as a disbeliever or kills a believer intentionally.'"  

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «عَسَى أَنْ يُغْفَرَ كُلُّ ذَنْبٍ إِلَّا أَنْ يَمُوتَ رَجُلٌ وَهُوَ كَافِرٌ أَوْ يَقْتُلَ مُؤْمِنًا مُتَعَمِّدًا»  

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Every sin can be forgiven by Allah, except for a man who dies as a disbeliever or a man who kills a believer intentionally."  

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «كُلُّ ذَنْبٍ عَسَى اللهُ أَنْ يَغْفِرَهُ إِلَّا الرَّجُلُ يَمُوتُ كَافِرًا أَوْ رَجُلٌ قَتَلَ مُؤْمِنًا مُتَعَمِّدًا»  

[Machine] I heard from the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , beneficial words, in which Allah benefited me. I heard him saying, "Turn away from people, haven't you seen that if you follow doubts about people, you would corrupt them or almost corrupt them?"  

سَمِعْتُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ كَلَامًا نَفَعَنِي اللهُ بِهِ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ «أَعْرِضُوا عَنِ النَّاسِ أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّكَ إِنِ اتَّبَعْتَ الرِّيبَةَ فِي النَّاسِ أَفْسَدْتَهُمْ أَوْ كِدْتَ تُفْسِدُهُمْ؟»  

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If Allah wants to do good for somebody, he makes him comprehend the Religion (i.e. Islam), and Allah is the Giver and I am Al-Qasim (i.e. the distributor), and this (Muslim) nation will remain victorious over their opponents, till Allah's Order comes and they will still be victorious." (Using translation from Bukhārī 3116)  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَنْ يُرِدِ اللهُ بِهِ خَيْرًا يُفَقِّهْهُ فِي الدِّينِ»  

[Machine] From the Prophet ﷺ it is narrated that he said, "Indeed, the one who hears and obeys is not to be argued against, and indeed, the one who hears and disobeys has no argument."  

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «إِنَّ السَّامِعَ الْمُطِيعَ لَا حُجَّةَ عَلَيْهِ وَإِنَّ السَّامِعَ الْعَاصِيَ لَا حُجَّةَ لَهُ»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say, "O people, do not rush me to perform the Ruku' and Sujood no matter how much I hasten. When I bow, you will catch up with me, and when I raise my head, I have already finished."  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ يَقُولُ «يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ لَا تُبَادِرُونِي إِلَى الرُّكُوعِ وَالسُّجُودِ مَهْمَا أَسْبِقْكُمْ بِهِ إِذَا رَكَعْتُ تُدْرِكُونِي بِهِ إِذَا رَفَعَتُ إِنِّي قَدْ بَدُنْتُ» أَيْ كَبِرْتُ وَاللَّفْظُ لِحَدِيثِ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ بِلَالٍ  

[Machine] On the authority of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he said, "Do not rush ahead of me in bowing and prostrating, for I do not precede you in doing so when I prostrate. You will catch up with me when I raise my head. And I do not precede you when I bow, for you will catch up with me when I rise. Indeed, I have already started."  

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ «لَا تُبَادِرُونِي بِالرُّكُوعِ والسُّجُودِ فَإِنِّي مَا أَسْبِقُكُمْ بِهِ حِينَ أَسْجُدُ تُدْرِكُونِي بِهِ إِذَا رَفَعْتُ وَمَا أَسْبِقُكُمْ بِهِ حِينَ أَرْكَعُ تُدْرِكُونِي بِهِ حِينَ أَرْفَعُ وَإِنِّي قَدْ بَدُنْتُ»  

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If Allah wants to do good for somebody, he makes him comprehend the Religion (i.e. Islam), and Allah is the Giver and I am Al-Qasim (i.e. the distributor), and this (Muslim) nation will remain victorious over their opponents, till Allah's Order comes and they will still be victorious." (Using translation from Bukhārī 3116)  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَنْ يُرِدِ اللهُ بِهِ خَيْرًا يُفَقِّهْهُ فِي الدِّينِ»  

[Machine] "That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade excessive questioning."  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَى عَنْ عُضَلِ الْمَسَائِلِ»  

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Indeed, what remains of this world is trials and tribulations. The example of one of you is like a vessel, when its upper part is good, its lower part becomes good as well."  

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «إِنَّمَا بَقِيَ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا بَلَاءٌ وَفِتْنَةٌ وَإِنَّمَا مَثَلُ أَحَدِكُمْ مِثْلُ الْوِعَاءِ إِذَا طَابَ أَعْلَاهُ طَابَ أَسْفَلُهُ»  

[Machine] He (the narrator) heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: "Indeed, a man exceeded the limits upon himself, so he went to someone and said, 'The other person killed ninety-nine souls all unjustly. Is there any chance for me to repent?' The person replied 'No,' and so he killed him. Then he went to another person and said, 'The other person killed a hundred souls all unjustly. Is there any chance for him to repent?' The person replied 'If I tell you that Allah does not accept the repentance of those who repent, then I would be lying to you. Go and worship Allah with them.' So he headed towards them for worship, but he died on his way. The angels of mercy and the angels of punishment disputed over him. Allah sent an angel to them who said, 'Measure the distance between the two lands, whichever land is closer, he is from its people.' They measured and found him closer to the land of repentance by a hand-span, so he was forgiven." And the wording is from the hadith of Al-Walid.  

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ إِنَّ رَجُلًا أَسْرَفَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ فَأَتَى رَجُلًا فَقَالَ إِنَّ الْآخَرَ قَتَلَ تِسْعَةً وَتِسْعِينَ نَفْسًا كُلُّهُمْ يَقْتُلُهَا ظُلْمًا فَهَلْ لِي مِنْ تَوْبَةٍ؟ فَقَالَ لَا فَقَتَلَهُ وَأَتَى آخَرٌ فَقَالَ إِنَّ الْآخَرَ قَتَلَ مِائَةَ نَفْسٍ كُلُّهَا ظُلْمًا فَهَلْ لَهُ مِنْ تَوْبَةٍ؟ قَالَ إِنْ حَدَّثْتُكَ أَنَّ اللهَ لَا يَتُوبُ عَلَى مِنْ تَابَ فَقَدْ كَذَبْتُكَ هَهُنَا مَكَانٌ فِيهِ قَوْمٌ يَتَعَبَّدُونَ فَائْتِهِمْ تَعْبُدِ اللهَ مَعَهُمْ فَتَوَجَّهَ إِلَيْهِمْ فَمَاتَ عَلَى ذَلِكَ فَاخْتَصَمَتْ مَلَائِكَةُ الرَّحْمَةِ وَمَلَائِكَةُ الْعَذَابِ فَبَعَثَ اللهُ إِلَيْهِمْ مَلَكًا قَالَ قِيسُوا بَيْنَ الْمَكَانَيْنِ فَأَيُّهُمْ كَانَ أَقْرَبَ فَهُوَ مِنْهُمْ فَوَجَدُوهُ أَقْرَبَ إِلَى دَيْرِ التَّوَّابِينَ بِأَنْمُلَةٍ فَغُفِرَ لَهُ «» وَاللَّفْظُ لِحَدِيثِ الْوَلِيدِ  

[Machine] I heard the Prophet (PBUH) saying, "Surely, Allah does not become weary nor does He sleep, and there is no one other than Him who can predict what He does not know. Whoever Allah intends good for, He grants him understanding in the religion."  

سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ «إِنَّ اللهَ لَا يُغْلَبُ وَلَا يُخْلَبُ وَلَا يُنَبَّأُ بِمَا لَا يَعْلَمُ مَنْ يُرِدِ اللهُ بِهِ خَيْرًا يُفَقِّهْهُ فِي الدِّينِ»  

[Machine] I heard Muawiya on the pulpit in Damascus saying, "O people, beware of anything other than the Hadiths of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , except for a Hadith that was mentioned during the time of Umar. For indeed, Umar was a man who would instill fear of Allah in people. Then, I heard him saying, 'Verily, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Whomsoever Allah intends good for, He grants him understanding of the religion."'  

سَمِعْتُ مُعَاوِيَةَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ بِدِمَشْقَ يَقُولُ أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِيَّاكُمْ وَأَحَادِيثَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَّا حَدِيثًا كَانَ يُذْكَرُ عَلَى عَهْدِ عُمَرَ فَإِنَّ عُمَرَ ؓ كَانَ رَجُلًا يُخِيفُ النَّاسَ فِي اللهِ ثُمَّ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ أَلَا إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَنْ يُرِدِ اللهُ بِهِ خَيْرًا يُفَقِّهْهُ فِي الدِّينِ»  

[Machine] I heard Muawiyah from the pulpit in Damascus saying, "O people, beware of going against the teachings of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, unless it is a tradition that was mentioned during the time of Umar. For Umar was a man who would instill fear in people in matters regarding Allah. Then, I heard him saying, 'Verily, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'Whomever Allah intends good for, He grants him understanding of the religion.''  

سَمِعْتُ مُعَاوِيَةَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ بِدِمَشْقَ يَقُولُ أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِيَّاكُمْ وَأَحَادِيثَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَّا حَدِيثًا كَانَ يُذْكَرُ عَلَى عَهْدِ عُمَرَ فَإِنَّ عُمَرَ ؓ كَانَ رَجُلًا يُخِيفُ النَّاسَ فِي اللهِ ثُمَّ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ أَلَا إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَنْ يُرِدِ اللهُ بِهِ خَيْرًا يُفَقِّهْهُ فِي الدِّينِ»  

[Machine] I heard Muawiya on the pulpit in Damascus saying, "O people, be careful and pay attention to the words of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . Do not mention any hadith except for those that were mentioned during the time of Umar, for Umar was a man who instilled fear in people for the sake of Allah. Then I heard him saying, 'Indeed, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'Whomsoever Allah intends to do good, He grants him understanding of the religion.''  

سَمِعْتُ مُعَاوِيَةَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ بِدِمَشْقَ يَقُولُ أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِيَّاكُمْ وَأَحَادِيثَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَّا حَدِيثًا كَانَ يُذْكَرُ عَلَى عَهْدِ عُمَرَ فَإِنَّ عُمَرَ ؓ كَانَ رَجُلًا يُخِيفُ النَّاسَ فِي اللهِ ثُمَّ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ أَلَا إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَنْ يُرِدِ اللهُ بِهِ خَيْرًا يُفَقِّهْهُ فِي الدِّينِ»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "My nation will continue to stand up for the truth, fighting against those who fight them and oppose them until the Day of Judgment."  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَا تَزَالُ أُمَّتِي قَائِمَةً بِالْحَقِّ يُقَاتِلُونَ مَنْ قَاتَلَهُمْ وَحَارَبَهُمْ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ»  

I heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "If Allah wants to do good to a person, He makes him comprehend the religion. I am just a distributor, but the grant is from Allah. (And remember) that this nation (true Muslims) will keep on following Allah's teachings strictly and they will not be harmed by any one going on a different path till Allah's order (Day of Judgment) is established." (Using translation from Bukhārī 71)  

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَنْ يُرِدِ اللهُ بِهِ خَيْرًا يُفَقِّهْهُ فِي الدِّينِ»  

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "I am only a custodian, and indeed Allah gives. So whoever I give, a gift, and my intention is good in it, then it is blessed for him. And whoever I give a gift out of his greed and his insistence, then it is like one who eats but does not get satisfied."  

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «إِنَّمَا أَنَا خَازِنٌ وَإِنَّمَا يُعْطِي اللهُ فَمَنْ أَعْطَيْتُهُ عَطَاءً وَأَنَا بِهِ طَيِّبُ النَّفْسِ بُورِكَ لَهُ فِيهِ وَمَنْ أَعْطَيْتُهُ عَطَاءً عَنْ شَرَهِ النَّفْسِ وَشِدَّةِ الْمَسْأَلَةِ فَهُوَ كَالَّذِي يَأْكُلُ وَلَا يَشْبَعُ»  

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say from the pulpit, "Indeed, I am only a keeper, and indeed, Allah is the giver. So whoever I give from my own self, then indeed it is blessed for him. And whoever I give from what I dislike and with harshness, then he is like one who eats but does not become satisfied."  

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ «إِنَّمَا أَنَا خَازِنٌ وَإِنَّمَا يُعْطِي اللهُ فَمَنْ أَعْطَيْتُهُ عَطَاءً وَأَنَا طَيِّبَةٌ بِهِ نَفْسِي فَإِنَّهُ يُبَارَكُ لَهُ فِيهِ وَمَنْ أَعْطَيْتُهُ عَطَاءً عَنْ شَرَهِ نَفْسٍ وَشِدَّةِ مَسْأَلَةٍ فَهُوَ كَالَّذِي يَأْكُلُ وَلَا يَشْبَعُ»  

[Machine] He used to speak to Muawiya and the muadhin (caller to prayer) made the call to prayer, so he ordered him to listen, then he said the takbeer (God is the greatest) as he said it. Then the muadhin said, "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah," and he said, "And we bear witness that there is no god but Allah." The muadhin said, "I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah," and he said, "And we bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah." Ibn Hubayrah said, "So I said to him, 'Did you see anything or hear it from the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ ?' He said, 'I heard the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , say takbeer when he heard the muadhin, so when he said, 'I bear witness that there is no god but Allah,' he said, 'And I bear witness that there is no god but Allah.' And when he said, 'I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah,' he said, 'And I bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah.'"  

أَنَّهُ كَانَ يُكَلِّمُ مُعَاوِيَةَ وَأَذَّنَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ فَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يُنْصِتَ ثُمَّ كَبَّرَ كَمَا كَبَّرَ ثُمَّ قَالَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ فَقَالَ وَنَحْنُ نَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ قَالَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللهِ فَقَالَ وَنَحْنُ نَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللهِ قَالَ ابْنُ هُبَيْرَةَ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ أَشَيْءٌ رَأَيْتَهُ أَمْ سَمِعْتَهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ؟ فَقَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَبَّرَ حِينَ سَمِعَ الْمُؤَذِّنَ فَإِذَا قَالَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ قَالَ «وَأَنَا أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ» وَإِذَا قَالَ أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللهِ قَالَ «وَأَنَا أَشْهَدُ أَنِّي رَسُولُ اللهِ»  

[Machine] "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: 'The eye is the hook of the shooting star, so when the eye sleeps, the hook is released, so whoever sleeps, let him perform ablution.'"  

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «إِنَّمَا الْعَيْنُ وِكَاءُ السَّهِ فَإِذَا نَامَتِ الْعَيْنُ انْطَلَقَ الْوِكَاءُ فَمَنْ نَامَ فَلْيَتَوَضَّأْ»  

[Machine] Muawiyah addressed the people and mentioned in his speech that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade seven things, and I inform you of them and prohibit you from them: idol worship, poetry, images, excessive adornment, animal skins, gold, and silk.  

خَطَبَ مُعَاوِيَةُ النَّاسَ فَذَكَرَ فِي خُطْبَتِهِ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ حَرَّمَ سَبْعَةَ أَشْيَاءٍ وَإِنِّي أُبْلِغُكُمْ ذَلِكَ وَأَنْهَاكُمُ عَنْهُ مِنْهُنَّ النَّوْحُ وَالشَّعْرُ وَالتَّصَاوِيرُ وَالتَّبَرُّجُ وَجُلُودُ السِّبَاعِ وَالذَّهَبُ وَالْحَرِيرُ  

[Machine] "O people, indeed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited nine things, and I also prohibit you from them: excessive lamenting, poetry, excess adornment, statues and drawings, animal skins, singing and musical instruments, gold and silk, and men wearing silk garments."  

يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَى عَنْ تِسْعٍ وَأَنَا أَنْهَاكُمْ عَنْهُنَّ النَّوْحُ وَالشَّعْرُ وَالتَّبَرُّجُ وَالتَّصَاوِيرُ وَجُلُودُ السِّبَاعِ وَالْغِنَاءُ وَالذَّهَبُ وَالْحَرُّ وَالْحَرِيرُ  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited nine things, and I also prohibit you from them. Indeed, among them are wailing, singing, images, poetry, gold, silk, wild animals, candle lighting, and silk garments.  

إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَى عَنْ تِسْعٍ وَأَنَا أَنْهَاكُمْ عَنْهُنَّ أَلَا إِنَّ مِنْهُنَّ النَّوْحُ وَالْغِنَاءُ وَالتَّصَاوِيرُ وَالشَّعْرُ وَالذَّهَبُ وَالْحَرُّ وَالسُّرُوجُ وَالْحَرِيرُ  

[Machine] What stories have you heard about that you talk about them? I intended to expel you from Sham, and he said: By Allah, if it were not for the women, I would not have loved to be with her for a moment. Muawiyah said: What story are you talking about in regards to Tila? He said: As for him, it is not permissible for me to say about the Messenger of Allah something that I have not heard him say.  

مَا أَحَادِيثُ بَلَغَنِي عَنْكَ تُحَدِّثُ بِهَا؟ لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ أَنْفِيَكَ مِنَ الشَّامِ فَقَالَ أَمَا وَاللهِ لَوْلَا إِنَاثٌ مَا أَحْبَبْتُ أَنْ أَكُونَ بِهَا سَاعَةً فَقَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ مَا حَدِيثٌ تُحَدِّثُ بِهِ فِي الطِّلَا؟ فَقَالَ أَمَا إِنَّهُ مَا يَحِلُّ لِي أَنْ أَقُولَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مَا لَمْ يَقُلْ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ «مَنْ تَقَوَّلَ عَلِيَّ مَا لَمْ أَقُلْ فَلْيَتَبَوَّأْ مَقْعَدَهُ مِنَ النَّارِ»
